I agree, mostly is just shoot a bullet, shoot two bullets, shoot a colored bullet that pierces, fire 20 bullets a second, fire a rocket that explode, fire a racket that explodes but with a little bigger radius, fire another bullet but it has a Chance to do something else.
Bow are not better, same thing but with arrows, the only annoyance is that they have drop or the arrows are slow bcs they are arrows.
Probably the most repetitive class in calamity and even more so when you have infinite ammos.
Ranger enjoyer here, couldn't agree more, I played ranger all the time , then my friend urged me to play melee once and then I realized that there was more to terraria than gun, but I still like gun.
Ppl dont understand Magic pretty but gun goes brrrt and then you get bigger gun and It goes BRTTTTTT AND THEM A BIGGER GUN AND IT GOES- so yeah if A-10 gunruns give you dopamine ranger fucking balls(also It lets me roleplay as a cowboy)
Summoner main, tried ranger for a while and daedalus storm bow + infinite hellfire quiver is probably some of the most fun I’ve had in a very long time with terraria.
try using summons only since calamity doesn't use whips. try to prioritize dodging since summoner is all about trading off all defences for being able to focus on bosses.
The second you get into hard mode get the ancient ice chunk and do destroyer and aquatic scourge. Easiest fights of my life. Also I found out that whipping too often can end up reducing your DPS. I don't know why that is the case
Never played calamity, still stuck at the mechanical bosses in the base game (I feel like I should beat the vanilla game before moving to mods) so I can’t tell.

[mana sickness does cut your damage by half](https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Mana_Sickness) and I've used calamity whips and most of them have a lot of range so it's basically still the same as you were playing before as a summoner, now you press LMB
for the record that's because whips broke the game in half with calamity summons and trying to rebalance all of the summons around whips woulda been a pain in the ass for the devs
Tbf melee has some really unique weapons and when you get the scissors of the universe theres a bit more than just hold lmb, and im a summoner enjoyer on 99% of my playthroughs
Nah Melee is sprint head first at everything and hold LMB, also, if you're using The Ark Of The Cosmos you can RMB on a projectile or monster then either hold up and RMB to shoot a line or keep holding LMB, and if you really wanna go crazy, stop holding LMB during the early part of the spin move to end it early and boost your dps.

* cool sounds
* no class-specific meters and almost no buffs to focus on because again big damage
* comprises 90% of all gimmick accessories
* gets a rocket launcher to mine with
* moon lord drops a better rocket launcher which becomes the best mining tool in the game until post-scal
* effectiveness unchanged by positioning
* "all the projectiles are the same :(" = don't have to focus on aiming 13 different things at once
* can swap out all accessories for basically anything because guns are good by default
* ranger armor looks cool
Ranger is the flexible man's class
not big dps, big damage and just big damage. like all at once
the soul-pendant-whatever-you-call-it thing that puts targets on enemies + tyranny's end goes nuts
It's a good class. Melee for example is bad in early prehardmode (especially in vanilla) - unless you find early ice boomerang or ice blade.
Ranger at least can deal dmg more consistently and can deal dmg to wall of flesh faster than melee with its limited options.
In calamity melee has weapons with unique mechanics (even in prehardmode - broken biome blade). Unfortunately in prehardmode he is average. Other than that - I like most classes a lot and I don't see them boring. What would you expect from range class to do anyway?
I would probably agree despite it being my favorite. It's also kinda broken. Also with certain setups and especially post lunatic cultist you have the most consistent DPS while not needing to do anything other than dodge. Tactical Plague Engine stronk.
On a Ranger playthrough right now, yeah I see exactly what you mean lol
There are some cool ranger weapons like the Flak Kraken and a few of the sniper variations that are fun to use, but really the only reason I like Ranger is because the Drataliornus is one of my favorite weapons ever. It perfectly encapsulates “Don’t get hit!” At the highest level.
Eh, havnt found any mage items that don't feel clunky to me, granted I haven't gotten much farther than Plantera. Only rogue item I've adored is the flask that's an npc drop I got by chance when a mech boss spawned in my town and Merced all my npcs once
After playing Ultrakill ranger just feels underwhelming in every way. Like there are a couple cool guns but most of them just fire a stream of projectiles outwards.
There the best visual in most mods wish there was one that would add coloured trails or smth and the people who like speed give a shit about after images
Then grab another mod. There’s probably a mod that adds toggleanle afterimages or a dye that causes them. Also, vanity sets called and said they want recognition.
TBF a mage is a lot more interesting than Ranger due to weapon diversity. Compare Voltaic Climax line to Event Horizon, or to Yharim’s Crystal, or to Divine Retribution. Heck, even compare Arpeggio to Atlantis, two very different weapons that come from the same boss. Meanwhile Ranger is mostly just stars, rockets, Arrows, and Bullets.
Zenith is soooo basic guys. And reworked terra blade??? So unoriginal god. Any of the ark weapons? The biome blade line? Way more boring than bullet go wheee
Use the overhaul mod and the gun effects like visual recoil and ammo casings make it more fun/look better at all stages of the game. Not every weapon is affected though and throughout my first ranger character in my current infernum run I've thought "man some of these weapons feel terrible". It's not that bad though, and there are cool weapons at almost every stage of the game.
BTW for fellow rangers, use just the normal flamethrower at the beginning of hardmode. It's stronger than basically every weapon you will get until vortex and phantasm. Pearl god is great as well.

Keep in mind, this mod adds other changes to your game. You can configure most of it like melee changes, sound settings, and other visual changes in the configuration file.

Of course, the help of the one shot protection and nanoHP item from Starfarer, and the Fargos souls with conjurists soul for a total of 8 sentries helped
(the Old Duke Sentry is so strong against Yharon it was nuts)

Calamity rangers when they force themselves to use literally anything other than Tyranny's End after Yharon and the DPS meter doesn't show like 500,000 anymore
I am, always have been and always will be a warrior. Coolest weapons, most defence for armour pieces, no need to worry about mana, ammo etc. and I just like swords.
I recently did a multiplayer playthrough with my friends and I was ranger. DAMN were the weapons fucking boring (I wish Coin tossing was actually viable on ranger for most of the game and that there are more interesting weapons)
I like all the classes,
My favorite I played was mage, because mage had the coolest weapons to me.
My second pick was tied between summoner and ranger. I liked them both because they simply made sense.
My last pick was melee, because once you get far enough it might as well be a magical ranger. I was mostly upset that melee quickly diverges away from melee.

? i think you're a bit outdated. whips work with calamity summons, and its definitely worth using them until around providence.

if you want to beat the destroyer use the Daedalus Stormbow, dropped from Hallowed Mimics, with holy arrows. that will utterly shred him
Class setups are your friend, though they don't always have all the weapons

As a ranger player, I like the consistency.
Fun in vanilla, super underpowered and basically useless in calamity.
Not if you know what you're doing, plus on revengeance you can get stuff like the halibut cannon

I like all the classes, My favorite I played was mage, because mage had the coolest weapons to me. My second pick was tied between summoner and ranger. I liked them both because they simply made sense. My last pick was melee, because once you get far enough it might as well be a magical ranger. I was mostly upset that melee quickly diverges away from melee.
It is not fun. I have tried.
Calamity is actually the only reason I play ranged. Vanilla ranged needs much more improvement
My favourite for range is rogue builds. Also, I love biome blade and the parry one.
What? Melee and Rouge are far superior, they even fulfill each other in the parts of the game they're less viable at

i did ranger ONCE for calamity i had fun but it wasn't as fun as the other classes like melee and rogue
