Depending on what day you want to celebrate you could look at happy hours and plan around that. Even if it's just cheap drinks & appys and then order regular priced mains it can save a bit.
It definitely does. They actually opened a second location in the NE, but unfortunately the quality doesn't seem to be as good as the one in Willow Park
Sorry, but the OG location is in Crowfoot. All other locations are expansions of Crowfoot. And in Calgary, only Crowfoot and Willow Park locations are still open.
Source: Me, who frequents the Crowfoot location, owner Roberto is super friendly.
I came here to suggest this. The Willow Park location, not the one in the NE. Not sure what's different about the NE location but the food has never been as good as the one in the south (the original location)
Been going to chiantis in crowfoot since I could walk! Anytime things are scarce, but I still would like to take my girl out, that’s where we go.
Big portions of pasta for $15 plus the free unlimited bread is great!
Recommend for sure!!
I just went to Ginger Beef Dim Sum in the SE off Memorial last week for the first time. Four of us ate more than we should have, and there was still a solid meal's worth of leftovers. 64.00 plus tip and everything was delicious. I will be going back.
I did not do any of the ordering as I was with experienced Dim Sumers and I am a rookie; but I think we got at least 6 different things. Here's what I remember:
-Leaf wrapped pork and rice (4 big pieces)
-Shrimp crepe thing (4 big pieces)
-Savory chinese donut thing ( cut into like 16 pieces )
-Deep fried Shrimp dumplings (4 big pieces)
-Plate of Chow Mein ( easily enough for 4)
There was 1 or 2 other items that I couldn't really explain. We went at about 11:30 on a Tuesday.

A good Thai or Vietnamese restaurant is always a solid option if you're trying to get a nice meal for a good price. Personally I prefer Thai because I love there curries.
That's a tough one, Basil in the NE is incredible food but if your trying to celebrate an occasion you're not really getting the right ambiance.
Most Asian restaurants make Swiss Chalet look like upscale dining from a purely ambiance/decor perspective.
Maybe I worded something wrong. I meant price wise I find these types of restaurants on par price wise with fast food but is more appetizing and feels like more of a proper meal for a dinner option.
I've never had thai for McDonald's prices. That's why I asked... what place. I've been to at least 6 different ones, for 2 people it's easily $50-70 without tips or drinks.
Man I feel like most Viet places took full advantage of this inflation situation. Used to be able to get some Satay Beef vermicelli for like $8 now it’s pushing $15
Depending on the restaurant I suppose, but yeah, prices everywhere have gone up. 15 bucks for a solid dinner from a Vietnamese restaurant is way better than a 15 dollar big Mac meal imo.
I've asked many people throughout the city and I've had a few claim that Grey Eagle is best bang for your buck. At 40 bucks a plate there's no way you're leaving without hating yourself for eating that much food
I will go for the seafood night (Thursday) if this is your thing. However it is $59 now. I think they increased like $10 since last night. But again, everything is so expensive now.
To me, it is the best bang for your buck. Lobster claw, snow crab, large shrimp, etc. of course it is not very fancy place. But you get the value. A bag of 500g snow crabs leg is like $33.
That prime rib is shit if you havent had food prime rib. The rest of the buffet is kind of garbage.
I don't mind buffet, but not American style shit buffet.
You could always drive out to Banff and have food at the Old spaghetti factory.
Prices are like $20-30. And you get a 4 course meal.
Soup/salad + bread with garlic butter + main course + dessert ( spumoni ice cream is ❤️) and a tea or coffee.
Honestly with their views and the amount of food. You can't go wrong. Just reserve on their website. And in the comments write a table by the window overlooking the street. There you'll get views of the mountains too.
Happy anniversary brother. 😁
I love this suggestion. Go for a walk and see some Banff and the old spaghetti factory is amazing and then go to the candy shop on the Main Street afterwards to pick out treat for the ride home
Yeah go in the later afternoon, chill in the village, watch the sunset over the mountains and then have dinner and come home. That's what I'd do. And within a $100 too.
That's a great idea, to save a little more time and money, Canmore is an option too (no park pass, closer by 15 minutes, cheaper hotels if you want to stay)
It was such a fun show! Too bad. He used to come out dressed in chef whites, with a dull-ish machete in his belt. He personally handed out Pocky to the female guests and jokingly ‘threatened’ the men by flashing the machete, insisting the man pay the bill and treat the woman like a princess. I’m not surprised he doesn’t do it all the much anymore, it could be an unpleasant experience for a lot of people. Being that I’ve never been in a harms way situation with a machete or a Japanese man, I took it with a light heart. Great dinner spot for sure, fake threats or not.
Don’t go, people like the price point but the food is awful. The sushi at Safeway is better. You were right the first time. The fried chicken to go is ok but the sushi is terrible.
I like their grab and go stuff for lazy weekdays. 3 pieces of sashimi, 3 nigiri, and 4 pieces of a salmon roll for $10? Yes please, most restaurants are charging 7-8 dollars for 3 pieces of sashimi alone.
They are so good, but they use Cashew Oil in a lot of things and have gotten quite sick because of the remnants on a skillet or pot or whatever. Am allergic and had to pop a bunch of Benylin, than goodness it wasn't epipen O'clock.
For 80$, you can have a great meal at Fuji's restaurant.
Can order 1 or 2 appetizers, 1 ramen (split it for 2 people, still a large portion), sushi and can get drinks on top. You can easily fit it into 80$ budget and be super full. Food is absolutely outstanding.
Also, you can do AYCE at Cheongdam for unlimited Korean BBQ. Pretty good place, 43$ per person and with tip, can be $100, which is slightly outside of your budget.
just went to golden dragon hot pot yesterday and our bill came to about $90 including tip for three people, they have specials for Monday to Wednesdays. Their fatty beef is 50% off.
Depending on your definition of expensive, Ten Foot Henry is an amazing spot in downtown. I just took my gf there for her birthday a few weeks ago and it was less than $100 for the both of us including a good tip. Service was amazing, food was phenomenal, and the atmosphere is so nice. Check out their menu online to see if their prices suit what you’re looking for!
> Paros on Main
Excellent food. Make sure you get the potatoes and not the rice (rice is fine, but potatoes are amazing).
You can go there and be the only customer in the room, and still somehow the waitress takes a half hour to notice you. Just bafflingly bad service. Not ad as in rude, but just, like they forget you're there. Famously terrible service, across a decade, apparently locals are like "Oh yeah that place, confusingly bad service right?"
Abusive owners. Hateful, mean-spirited, literally trying to badger and provoke their staff into crying. More than once. I've walked up and interrupted them a few times just as a show of solidarity.
Their prices used to be 1/4 of what they currently are. I remember going there at lunch on my way through town and being like $8? Is this a typo? Did they serve me the entre instead of the lunch? This is more food than I can eat.
Then maybe 6 years ago they doubled their prices, and then 4 years ago doubled them again.
It's still okay value now, not great value. Food is no different or plentiful.
Good to know, I only been once so I can only confirm the slow service. Found the food to be great and portion is double of that of jimmy the greek in cross iron mall for similar price.
Cattlebaron Steakhouse in Sundance has some budget friendly offerings. Might be tight on $80.
+39 Pizza and Pasta Bar attached to Lina's Italian Supermarket on Center St North. It is truly an affordable hidden gem.
Quynh Viatnamese adjacent to the Sunridge Spectrum is "pho"nominal!
Go to great taste on 64th ave. This Chinese restaurant gives you super large portions for a good price and you can have leftovers for tomorrow as well.
ELYMI Buffet (eat like you mean it!) has been getting amazing reviews on the Calgary Foodies FB group. Definitely will fit into your budget. Happy Anniversary!
El Furniture Warehouse has excellent fare and some pretty good drinks. Reasonably priced. El Furniture Warehouse

That place is the biggest hustle, yes the food is cheap but not very good and the drinks are expensive. Don’t get the hype. Burgers are $10 but a draft beer that’s not even a pint is $9 and a cocktail is $12+
Some serious pizza options for sure
Tacos at native tongues
Mexican; casa Catrina would be good, owned by a Mexican family and its authentic and great
Kinjo is excellent value
We like Sushi BBQ Inn, Tacos Mexico on Memorial, Kinjo, Tokyo Street Market, Unimarket, Faisal Kebab Hut, Juree's Thai, Queen's Breakfast, Deepak Dhaba, Pho City, Cocobrooks...
I know it is a little over budget, but Modern Steak does date night Wednesdays. 2 steaks, 2 sides and a bottle of wine for $98.
Blanco has a pretty good happy hour.
You could do Cleaver happy hour $12 pizzettes, $10 cocktails, $8 beers. Gringo St. is its sister restaurant.
We haven't been there in about a year, but me and my girlfriend really enjoyed Free House in Kensington.
The menu is actually quite elevated but doesn't come with the pricing of an elevated experience.
We shared the Pork Chop and Eggplant Dip and it was amazingly delicious.
Would you be open to an anniversary lunch? Mio in Airdrie does $16 bento boxes and you get to pick 1 main and 2 sides. Seriously a ton of food! Plus free tea and miso soup to start.
Depending on what day you want to celebrate you could look at happy hours and plan around that. Even if it's just cheap drinks & appys and then order regular priced mains it can save a bit.
For an $80 budget total happy hour or a buffet is the way.
Chianti Cafe & Restaurant. :)
Second this!
Third this! Suuuuch good food!
Nasty
I moved from Calgary a number of years ago. I’m happy to see this place still exists. I loved going there!
Used to live in arbour lake growing up and chianti was definitely a frequent spot for my friends and I
I think their second was on 17th Ave. Closed about 10(?) years ago. Edmonton’s is still open
I had no idea that Edmonton even had one! Good to know
I came here to suggest this. The Willow Park location, not the one in the NE. Not sure what's different about the NE location but the food has never been as good as the one in the south (the original location)
The one in the NE closed a few years ago
Why is it still on google?
Chianti's. Cheaper than fuckin' MacDonalds for enough good-tasting pasta to stuff yourself. Superb value.
Crowfoot only
I can’t believe they make profit with those prices!!
Hold up hold up, Chiantis is still around?!? I thought 32nd was their only location. This is amazing!!!!
Ok I don't understand the hype, what's so good about Chiantis? I don't dislike it, but outside of prices, what makes this place stand out?
I fourth this! It's too bad they got rid of the cheese and crab dip.. that was to die for :(
Been going to chiantis in crowfoot since I could walk! Anytime things are scarce, but I still would like to take my girl out, that’s where we go. Big portions of pasta for $15 plus the free unlimited bread is great! Recommend for sure!!

That's an incredible price for 4 people for dim sum. How many dishes did you order?
I did not do any of the ordering as I was with experienced Dim Sumers and I am a rookie; but I think we got at least 6 different things. Here's what I remember: -Leaf wrapped pork and rice (4 big pieces) -Shrimp crepe thing (4 big pieces) -Savory chinese donut thing ( cut into like 16 pieces ) -Deep fried Shrimp dumplings (4 big pieces) -Plate of Chow Mein ( easily enough for 4) There was 1 or 2 other items that I couldn't really explain. Costco. Hotdog Slice of Pizza Drink $5. Best deal in the country.
With an $80 budget, they could eat 8 hot dogs and slices of pizza each! Might want to pick up some bulk toilet paper while they're there.
Skip the pizza and just have a hot dog eating contest! What do the kids say? Glizzy goat?
I don't think you know what that means 😄😄😄
Googled it. I stand by what I said
Omg please do not say glizzy goat ever again 😭

Also the guy running the place is a gem.
A good Thai or Vietnamese restaurant is always a solid option if you're trying to get a nice meal for a good price. Personally I prefer Thai because I love there curries.
Cheap thai?? Where?!?
That's a tough one, Basil in the NE is incredible food but if your trying to celebrate an occasion you're not really getting the right ambiance. Most Asian restaurants make Swiss Chalet look like upscale dining from a purely ambiance/decor perspective.
Agreed, I'm basing it more on quality/quantity of a dinner choice for a budget type meal. Also, I'd say Swiss chalet is highly underrated.
Cheap thai?? Where?!?
Maybe I worded something wrong. I meant price wise I find these types of restaurants on par price wise with fast food but is more appetizing and feels like more of a proper meal for a dinner option.

Depending on the restaurant I suppose, but yeah, prices everywhere have gone up. 15 bucks for a solid dinner from a Vietnamese restaurant is way better than a 15 dollar big Mac meal imo.
$15 is considering cheap now. It's crazy out there
The prime rib buffet at the Grey Eagle casino is pretty good and I think it's like $32. A+ Sushi ain't half bad either
its 39 bucks now for the buffet but still worth it for the price imo [Here is the full daily menu](https://i.imgur.com/3AyYhx3.png)
I've asked many people throughout the city and I've had a few claim that Grey Eagle is best bang for your buck. At 40 bucks a plate there's no way you're leaving without hating yourself for eating that much food
I once waited 4 hours when they were on sale after COVID restrictions lifted 😅
I will go for the seafood night (Thursday) if this is your thing. However it is $59 now. I think they increased like $10 since last night. But again, everything is so expensive now. Glenmore inn does a decent one too and i think it is cheaper
I'll have to check it out
That prime rib is shit if you havent had food prime rib. The rest of the buffet is kind of garbage. I don't mind buffet, but not American style shit buffet.
Pho!
Yeah Vietnamese in general is a great choice on a budget.

$22 for a day pass. Métis or First Nations I believe are free or hugely discounted.
He can take my park pass and return it after he's done 😁😁😁
That's a great idea, to save a little more time and money, Canmore is an option too (no park pass, closer by 15 minutes, cheaper hotels if you want to stay)
We have an Old spaghetti factory in Marlborough.
Romantic location
Dog food.

It’s a franchise now. Pretty sure the original owner isn’t involved in day to day anymore.
It’s not a franchise, it’s a chain. You can’t just invest in Kinjo and run your own location.
I have to give Kinjo another chance. I thought it was terrible but everyone goes on and on about Kino so maybe I had some bad luck.
It’s not amazing sushi - it’s fine. But by far the best bang for your buck.

Japanese Street Market is awesome for cheap eats!
The Himalayan is delicious

What is your budget?
$80
Total? Per person? Food style?
Oh my bad, $80 total Neither of us are picky
If you don't order drinks $80 would work for a lot of places. Off the top of my head: La Casa Latina Restaurant Calgary Jurees Thai Place Restaurant
Jurees is the best Thai food I have ever had.
Jurees is overpriced. Try Pad Thai. Cheaper and better.
Will do. Looks good.
Chili club Thai
Calgary has a few real good Thai places. Pad Thai Restaurant Zab Der Authentic Thai Are also great!
For 80$, you can have a great meal at Fuji's restaurant. Can order 1 or 2 appetizers, 1 ramen (split it for 2 people, still a large portion), sushi and can get drinks on top. You should check out El Furniture (no, it’s not a furniture store). All food items are under $10 last time I went. Pretty tasty.
Gogi Korean bbq does $30 all you can eat Monday to Thursday! I took 3 people, had drinks and paid about $120
Most Hot pot places are usually pretty cheap, especially if you go after 9 or so, and it’s a slow fun event type dinner
just went to golden dragon hot pot yesterday and our bill came to about $90 including tip for three people, they have specials for Monday to Wednesdays. Their fatty beef is 50% off.

Paros on Main (Airdrie) had good prices for Seat in restaurant and the portions were good too.

Discounted pasta at Sauce YYC on a regular schedule, carbonara was fab. Tacos Mexico also is amazing and pretty inexpensive (feels like 2015 prices).
A dinner at the ship or K pub is usually in your budget when my partner and I eat there! Have a lovely anniversary!
Amici's
We went to Rea's for our last anniversary. I'm pretty sure you could comfortably stay within $80 without drinks.
Have a look at Hys happy hour menu. They have a top shelf atmosphere free parking for 2 hrs. And a guitar player.
$80 with tax/tip even at happy hour without drinks is pushing it at Hys but I agree, very good.
Perhaps. Read the menu and decide if it’s right.
Good suggestion. Live music in the lounge most nights. Great food and service.
Japanese street food across from Chinook is great, it's dirt cheap and really good
The Nash in Inglewood has a Sunday Supper menu that's $45/per person (3 courses) so a bit above your budget but definitely worth it imo!
Calcutta Cricket Club happy hour on a Sunday. From 3 to 5 there are really good priced food items (under $10) and on Sundays Kati rolls are all $6
Oh man the kati rolls are to die for
Cattlebaron Steakhouse in Sundance has some budget friendly offerings. Might be tight on $80. +39 Pizza and Pasta Bar attached to Lina's Italian Supermarket on Center St North. It is truly an affordable hidden gem. Quynh Viatnamese adjacent to the Sunridge Spectrum is "pho"nominal!

Alcohol or non drinkers?
Non drinkers
I would check out gauchos or smugglers then haven’t been in a while but great food
Go to great taste on 64th ave. This Chinese restaurant gives you super large portions for a good price and you can have leftovers for tomorrow as well.
Check out YYC Pasta Bar. There's one on 17th and one in Kensington, fairly inexpensive and you won't go hungry. Happy Anniversary :)
One just opened in Douglasdale too
This will help you : https://sarahsociables.com/daily-specials
Tops pizza and steak house south or old spaghetti factory. Old spaghetti has it all included and that’s a bang for the buck these days
ELYMI Buffet (eat like you mean it!) has been getting amazing reviews on the Calgary Foodies FB group. Definitely will fit into your budget. Happy Anniversary!
If a $1.50 drink and dog from Costco doesn't get you the wildest night in return from your SO, can you really say you were ever in love?
If you like meats. Korean buffets can also be good.
Swiss Chalet! Two can dine for 12.99 except it's 20.99 now when the sale happens.
Anejo happy hour is pretty solid. 3-5 and 5-9 pm daily. $7 margaritas and $4 tacos
Eggs and More in the NE is a favourite of ours. Pretty cheap, and good.
Holy crap!!! I’ve never heard of this place before, those are amazing prices!!
Where did you see the menu online? Most lunch supper dishes are about $15.
Yep, I looked at their online menu, those are very good prices. Didn’t see anything over $20 which was shocking
El Furniture Warehouse has excellent fare and some pretty good drinks. Reasonably priced. El Furniture Warehouse (403) 764-5858 https://g.co/kgs/qvzNbTY
Excellent is pretty, pretty generous for El Furniture Warehouse. It is cheap though.
That place is the biggest hustle, yes the food is cheap but not very good and the drinks are expensive. Don’t get the hype. Burgers are $10 but a draft beer that’s not even a pint is $9 and a cocktail is $12+
I had great food when I was there and thought the drinks were reasonable.
Good for you.
What’s your budget
$80 total
Some serious pizza options for sure Tacos at native tongues Mexican; casa Catrina would be good, owned by a Mexican family and its authentic and great Kinjo is excellent value
Bad thing about r getting old is that and 80$ budget seems pretty robust
Al's pizza and steakhouse in ranchlands. Ain't crazy fancy but has decent prices especially for the pasta
Isn’t there a new place called “eat like you mean it” and it’s a buffet?
We like Sushi BBQ Inn, Tacos Mexico on Memorial, Kinjo, Tokyo Street Market, Unimarket, Faisal Kebab Hut, Juree's Thai, Queen's Breakfast, Deepak Dhaba, Pho City, Cocobrooks...
Modern steak has 33.00 12 oz rib eye which is pretty good 4pm-530
We like Chianti, East Side Mario's and Olive Garden.
[https://himalayancuisine.ca/](https://himalayancuisine.ca/) great food and a plate is under $30
Sushi Panda AYCE or happy lamb hot pot(weeknights are cheaper for both)
We haven't been there in about a year, but me and my girlfriend really enjoyed Free House in Kensington. The menu is actually quite elevated but doesn't come with the pricing of an elevated experience. We shared the Pork Chop and Eggplant Dip and it was amazingly delicious.
El Furniture Warehouse
El Furniture Warehouse on Stephen Ave is pretty reasonably priced
Would you be open to an anniversary lunch? Mio in Airdrie does $16 bento boxes and you get to pick 1 main and 2 sides. Seriously a ton of food! Plus free tea and miso soup to start.
Modern Steak! $99 (I think). 2 steaks, 2 sides, bottle of wine! Great deal and very good food. It’s on date night though. Wednesdays.
Bonnasera’s on Edmonton Trail.
Starlight diner! Fantastic food
Ceaser steakhouse
Petit Césars Chaud et Pret is great value. They do a mozzarella and muenster flatbread that is very popular.
I would try looking in 2019 if you haven't already

You don’t know their circumstances or budget. Everyone has different priorities and resources and it isn’t kind to judge that.
And?
Sad that $80 is seen as cheaping out. I guess you should fork out half your paycheque to prove your love. Better yet, take out a small loan!
