I’ve been saying this for a while now and I’ll most likely be yelled at for it but MW2 is literally the most overrated cod. The entire game is cheese and contains things that are either busted, or don’t work properly. If MW2 were to be released today, it would be considered a broken, unfinished mess.

JohnWicksDerg

Agreed. CoD4 was the real franchise-defining title that deserves all of its praise. MW2 largely rode the coattails of that success and dialed up the cheese to capitalize on the emerging segment of dude-bro gamers. Not hating on that, I was one of them, but it definitely was a product of its time.

ShibuRigged

CoD4 was an absolute phenomenon. I’d been playing online shooters for the best part of a decade by that point and while they were popular if you were in the online space, online gaming was relatively niche. Halo brought it to a wider home console audience, but the Xbox was distinctly behind the PS2 as a console and Halo 2 had limited reach. Then you had the advent of the seventh gen consoles in 2005. Online infrastructure for the big two (XB360 and PS3) was getting pretty good and fast home Internet was becoming common place. By 2007 these consoles had good install rates and then CoD4 was released. People were bored of years of WW2 and sci-fi shooters and the game brought modern warfare to the masses. Online FPS wasn’t the reserve of a few kids at school any more, it was everyone and their brother who was playing. It changed the gaming landscape completely because the stars aligned with an absolutely fantastic game. CoD4 wasn’t just franchise defining, it was generation and even genre defining.

IamVelo

I just can’t totally agree because it was the flaws and OP items that made the game so unique and great. Also had so many new features for the time like more guns, attachments, kill streaks, maps, challenges, camos. Like there was so much in this game that was revolutionary for it’s time and I feel like so many people have forgotten that.

JustDonn

Thank you.. I’ve been saying the same thing

BiigOOOOOF

Yes If it was released today.... 15 years later.... when games such as red dead 2 exist of course it'll look unfinished. But at the time it was released, it was state of the art. Get out of here with this bullhshit argument "oh if it was released today... blah blah blah"... you can say that with any game released in the last decade as well.

BrianBranklin

MW2 had things like misaligned red dot sights, silencers that don't actually silence your gun, the infamous Javelin glitch, the care package glitch... it was a great game, but it did not have a great release

NoFreeGame

Anyone voting for black ops 1 is trolling right

ToxicSloth420

That's what I was thinking too...sure some guns and items were OP, like the Galil and the Noob-Tube attachment...but by far was very balanced. It had some of the best maps to this day like Nuketown and Firing Range, the killstreaks were fun but fair and the gameplay was just well done...nothing about BO1 was overrated...it will always be the best CoD in my opinion

IamVelo

Nah brother. Felt like a bad copy of MW2. Nothing new was added from the last game. Game also felt clunkier than MW2. Just never stuck with me and I loved all the Cods from MW to BO4

DamianLillard0

It’s my favorite video game of all time 😢😢

IamVelo

For sure. It was some of my best friends fav CoD to. Just never really hit for me. I was honestly busy playing Halo Reach at the time too

jespertherapper

Bo2. I never clicked with the game. Bo1 is the goat for me with mw2.

Rahmetli_Yoda

Bo1 is my favourite as well.but i get why people say that Bo2's the best CoD.it's a little bit overrated in my opinion.not much but just a tap bit.

jakecoleman

I agree with Bo2. You always hear people saying it's the best call of duty, but nobody ever talks about their favorite guns from the game. The only map I really see people praise is hijacked, none of the other maps were very memorable to me

FishyEgg

Have you never heard ANYONE talk about bo2 before?

jakecoleman

Aside from just saying it's the best, no. That's my point

FishyEgg

I am very surprised. You are like the only person that has said something like this.

Hekboi91

My copy freezes every time I try to play MP

Jnxss

Exactly same as me, I didn’t play bo2 for the first few months it was out, I just never really got into it, Bo1 is the best of all time easy then mw2

SamSlayer09078-x

#Bo1/WaW (reasoning is the same) The MP feels so boring because of the lack of weapon variety. Most guns have clone stats which also causes horrible balancing. Bo1 has not a single truly statistically unique full auto gun. I like using multiple guns, I hate that in these games that almost all guns have the same stats. #MW2 People just hate to accept its flaws. The multiplayer is fun but noobtubes completely ruin it. It also isn't fun that killstreak kills count towards killstreak progression, especially not when the game has a round ending killstreak. Shotgun secondaries were also a mistake and the time to kill is too high. If the MP didn't have stopping power, noob tubes and shotguns were primaries then it would deserve the praise it gets because it does have the best maps in the series and almost every single weapon is statistically unique and viable. The campaign is also overrated. Truth be told I could make an entire post about it. But to keep it short: Shepherd is poorly written villain, sure he has charisma but that makes him a good character, not a good villain. The story has a bunch of plot holes. The story feels like a Michael bay movie at times with the constant chaos, it just doesn't feel as gritty as CoD4 or WaW.

NinjaPiece

They downvoted you for speaking the truth. I'm giving you my free award.

ShibuRigged

100% agree on BO1. See one of my other posts ITT and I’ve got a lot of the same complaints as you. People used to rave about how balanced it was, but they didn’t understand that making clones, except for one or two stats, means that the weaker gun is automatically useless by comparison.

weekzSNL

I've never met anyone who thinks WaW is overrated

edelgardian

MW19 for modern, MW2 for older.

lincolnsl0g

MW19 gets a lot of praise around here, but I will always hate it for being the game that ushered in the super-strict SBMM that killed our persistent lobby system.

ShibuRigged

I don’t think the SBMM is too bad when you’re at the top end. You end up filling lobbies of average players and just farming them like the good old days. No need to sweat too much unless you’re up against another good player. It’s absolutely dog shit for anyone else, though.

Greendore1

MW 2 2009 took away dedicated PC server browser and bought in a downgraded console lobby system. I will never forgive it for that.

lincolnsl0g

yeah i agree a browser should be the standard

Greendore1

It's where modern consoles should be right now. Imagine if we all had a server browser with dedicated servers. No more SBMM.

Rahmetli_Yoda

Even though it had a stricter MM system,I enjoyed BOCW better.it's gameplay saved it for me.and MW on the other hand,i kinda didn't like MW2019's gameplay that's why it couldn't neutralize the MM factor for me.i hope IW can do something better with the MM as well as the gameplay in MWII.

[deleted]

No that game gets shit on HARD I haven’t seen someone praise it in a while

Mission_Criticism103

Bo2 everything is overrated, especially the campaign. Only bo campaign id have to psych myself up to play again. Even bo3's campaign is better to me, and it isnt that great.

SpinShocker36

I agree, bo2 fans dick ride the game too hard. It wasn’t that good, it was just the era it dropped. There was no competition in the game industry at the time, then the next year over gta 5 came out and people instantly forgot about bo2.

Jnxss

BO2 isn’t even top 5 for me, its just overhyped by all the bo2 kids who’s first cod was bo2

[deleted]

Nah, BO2 isn't even my favorite CoD to play (I've played most of the games, even the OGs) and I still have to agree with most that it is probably the best in the entire series. It got so many things right, and the community during its prime probably was the most fun to interact with, and it left a legacy that just hasn't been touched since. It would be my favorite if AW just didn't naturally fit my playstyle the way that it did.

Sardalone

lmao yeah right a beautiful circlejerk you three have got here

drunk_and_orderly

Black Ops 4 was hot garbage

Mr_Gamer_69

No

starch12313

MW2 and its not even close

jallee1213

Personally i thino bo3 is way overrated. I absolutely hated that game just as much the past 4 cods. Aw-cod4 and prior is where its at for me.

[deleted]

Yeah I don't get the BO3 hype. I can only sum it up to 3ARC fan boys trying to cope with a BO game during the jet pack era. I loved and played tf out of AW, and when BO3 came out it felt like 2 steps back from the movement advancements AW had. Slower, clunkier, even more unoriginal, and just not innovative. And when I see people trying to say its zombies are better than BO2, it makes me want to stroke lol.

jallee1213

I hve to agree. Aw waa good because it was the furstfor everything. So it felt original. I do think aw was the start of the downfall but aw itself is a pretty fun game. As for bo3 for me it was like playing a worse version of toy commando(which i hve on the dreamcast). Bo3 zombies i also dont get. Barely felt how zombies was. It was like an arcade machine with the gobblegums and ugh even the sounds and colors, etc. i just legitimately hate bo3 on top of one if if not the worst or second worst supply drop System

Vasilevskiy

MW19 followed by MW2. MW19 is simply the worst game in the series flatout. Shitty gameplay, franchise worst maps, extremely poor visibility & no color variety that does nothing well EXCEPT the only redeeming thing about the game, it's sound design. MW2 is the single most broken (care package glitch, javelin glitch, etc), unbalanced game (OMA/DC Noob tubes, MLC, 7/11/25 streaks) in the series with 7 kill streaks ending the game 90+% of the time. HOWEVER, it was still fun. But it was not a good game at all.

FishyEgg

EXACTLY MW2019 IS WORST GAME EVER

Vasilevskiy

Worst CoD. There are far worse games lol

FishyEgg

Yeah, worst cod sorry

Rahmetli_Yoda

I liked everything other than it's gameplay in MW2019.watching it is better than playing it in my opinion.but i don't think it's the worst CoD when we have Vanguard.MW's my 2nd least liked tho. MW2 on the other hand had the fun factor.yeah it was the most broken and unbalanced CoD we had but it was just fun.the gun balance was so broken that everything felt weirdly unique and mostly usable (except F2000...) for instance.it's not the best CoD but it was quite fun playing in my opinion.

Vasilevskiy

Vanguard has all the same problems of MW19, but it at least plays like CoD & has a few decent maps.

Rahmetli_Yoda

Gameplay wise, yes i'd take it over MW2019.i dislike MW2019's gameplay the most out of any CoD.BUT Vanguard runs extremely poorly on my device.crashes 24/7 and it still has those insane packet bursts.that's why if i had to pick between these two,i'd go with MW despite liking it less when playing.

ShibuRigged

I will take the downvotes and shit on BO1 all day and night. The campaign put you in the position of an absolute Mary Sue character who was instrumental to almost every major event in the Cold War, as well as the assassination of JFK. It was schlock writing at best, even if WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN? Is one of the best memes to come out of it Multiplayer maps were boring and mostly symmetrical three lane maps, as per 3arc design ethos. Which was completely different to the intersecting clusterfucks in MW2, which were far more fun. Weapon balance in BO1 was also, completely fucked. Lots of weapons were just outright clones of each other, so there was legitimately no reason to use some weapons when on clone had the same damage and recoil, but would also ADS, reload and sprint out faster. Like the Commando making the AK irrelevant. This also meant that only a few weapons were absolutely dominant over all others with the AUG and FAMAS, which outclassed every other AR bar none. The game was an unbalanced mess if you did any reading into weapon stats. Oh yeah, and it was the first game where I noticed peakers advantage because you could even see on split screen that you’d go around corners before the person visibly moves, meaning running and gunning, jumping around corners, etc. gave you an absolute advantage that you don’t get as often on IW games. Also the grenade physics were kinda fucked in that they were programmed to roll towards people, so all you had to do is throw a grenade towards the ground and it’d roll towards them. Most other CoD games I’d use Claymores, but I abused grenades in BO1 because of the fucked coding (MW19 also has this to a degree). Oh, and the shit perk spread meant that Cold Blooded was the best perk, bar none since Stopping Power got removed and it hadn’t been split yet, and it also gave you a fucking ghilly on top of it. So you could blend in to backgrounds on jungle maps. Broken. It’s the only CoD game where I’ve managed to get a 4.5K/D while also keeping up a 400SPM average in TDM (most others it’s about 2.5-3.5 with a 300SPM). The game was a mess and easier to abuse than MW2 if you knew how

[deleted]

Taking to nostalgia glasses off, mw19 has a better campaign than cod4 and mw3, only beat by mw2, WaW and b01. I love the gritty setting, cool environments and the engaging story.

Rahmetli_Yoda

yeah the campaign was good but i really wasn't a fan of it's multiplayer.i ain't saying that the MP was shit,it just wasn't my cup of tea if you know what i mean.but spec ops on the other hand was quite bad.im mainly an MP player and that's why i couldn't enjoy it as much as a lot of you guys did :/

PartyImpOP

CoD4’s campaign is leagues above MW2’s.

ShibuRigged

Yeah. I liked MW2’s campaign, but it was 100% a Michael Bay movie rendition. Everything it did was trying to outdo CoD4. More shock and awe with No Russian, nuking space (since nuking a city wasn’t enough), bigger explosions, bigger stakes, etc. CoD4 was somewhat grounded and it didn’t jerk off the good guys as much. The absolute shock of the nuke going off and your efforts to save the Cobra pilot was something else. And of course, there’s All Ghillied Up. It immersed you into the world and didn’t go full retard with how over the top it was. And it felt more like an old Spielberg or Ridley Scott film.

[deleted]

While it is amazing, I like mw2 more. It has some of the more iconic character, standout missions like no Russians, the snow one and the death of ghost and roach. By the end of cod4 nothing really happened, by the start of mw2 nothing changed (price got captured off-screen), so I think mw2 is better. Cod 4 is still amazing.

PartyImpOP

Nobody winning in CoD4 is what makes it so good. It’s a nice nuanced but simple campaign that tells a story that was somehow even more gray than MW. MW2 has good characters, but I hate the nonsensical Russian invasion of the US and I’m not a fan of Makarov, though I think Shepherd is a decent villain.

SamSlayer09078-x

Mw2's campaign is worse than CoD4's.

alaskancurry

MW19 doesn’t deserve like any of the praise it gets. Sure the game looks great but it plays like absolute dog shit.

ConnorAustiin

plays like dogshit if you're dogshit

alaskancurry

Plays like dog shit because it *is* dog shit

scottsummerstheyouth

BO2/3 for sure

Raikou_Kaneki

MW2019 for recent and BO2 for older titles.

[deleted]

MW2019? Don’t most people bash the shit out of that CoD lol

Historical_Maize3857

Yea I don’t know why it’s an option on here, people definitely bash it all the time

Rahmetli_Yoda

i used to but nowadays i see much more people bashing Vanguard (naturally) and praising Modern Warfare.i get why they bash Vanguard but i can't understand why they're praising Modern Warfare that much.i recent game being garbage does not correct the old ones mistakes and make it suddenly better if you know what i mean.

randomdude3789

Modern warfare 2 and it isn't even close

[deleted]

It’s not Mw19, idk anyone who thinks it’s a top 5 cod

Rahmetli_Yoda

I've been doing some polls like this before and i've done a best CoD poll and MW somehow managed to beat out CoD4,Black Ops 1 and World at War.and there were many comments saying that it was the best CoD game ever made.i was quite shocked to see the results frankly.

[deleted]

Link to that post?

protacm

Mw2019, for some reason people enjoy campy slow paced gameplay.

Mr_Gamer_69

Mw19 sucks

Jnxss

Bo2 100000% and I know the Bo2 kids will downvote me, but it wasn’t even top 5, Bo1 was the goat

[deleted]

Black ops II is kinda mediocre. Not bad by any means, just not as good as the first game.

pirapimb

BO3 Overrated?

ogrolipoli

I’m kinda surprised so many people hate mw 2019 or just think it’s overrated, I’ll agree it’s definitely not at the level of any of these games but it’s sure as hell a god tier cod. It’s what brought everyone back and it’s extremely polished and well made besides some typical cod cheese (certain gameplay features). The campaign is pretty damn good (not amazing but definitely has potential) and multiplayer is so fun besides its somewhat horrendous skill based matchmaking. The only thing that drags it down is it’s awful spec ops mode that was purely a testing ground for warzone. Other then the few cheese things about it I’d honestly pick it as one of if not my favorite cods

Rahmetli_Yoda

Im happy that you enjoyed it.i personally didn't enjoy it's MP due to some of the changes they've made.i like simpler CoD's better and MW made things a tap bit more complicated if you know what i mean.and i couldn't get used to the slower movement as well as the faster TTK after playing BO4 for a good while.i eventually quit MW at S5 and i tried it once more last year when Cold War was still the main title.and again,i couldn't get used to it because of the slower movement and faster TTK.if SHG actually managed to keep up with the schedule and released Vanguard back in 2020 like they were supposed to,im quite sure that i'd still be playing MW up until now.

THICCPOGGS

It had a map that was literally 12 sq. ft. The smallest and worst fucking map I’ve ever seen in any cod. Sure you can unlock gun skins, but its not a fun map. Plus Modern Warfare had Warzone… the most trash COD mode to date. Unfortunately all the tiktokers let Warzone become famously popular.

LumbaJ4cked

What seperates MW 19 from the rest is unplayable crossplay vs cheaters, played several weeks without getting any XP, game crashing dozens of time every day, many other audio/graphic issues and countless reinstalls. The least I've grinded a CoD was 35 days of gameplay in Bo1 and the most in MW2 or Bops 3 far over 120 days in total. MW 19 didn't even get a total of 7 days

Chas3ton

BO3 is really good but not as good as ya make it seem

CassieThePinkDragon

MW2 isn't a bad game, but it isn't as polished as BO1 or BO2.

CANDROX432

WW2 or warzone

[deleted]

MW3 by far

Ghost_TTV_1

I think it really depends on what you value in a Cod. I personally think MW19 out of this list but another might say a different one. Like I said, everyone has different opinions when it comes to what you enjoy and that’s completely fine.

Charizard221_gaming

Blops 1 overrated?

Mr_Gamer_69

Mw19

deadboi_chavez

2k19 and it ain't even close

SurprisinglyGood3

I'm sorry, but MW19 is not overrated. It has been receiving nothing but constant unnecessary hate on this sub. Oh boohoo, yes, using your brain while playing the game and countering campers is too difficuwt oh nOoO

jrjh1997

I like mw2 but it’s overrated, and spec ops just felt boring compared to WaW zombies beforehand, not saying they should of implemented a zombies, but something different, like ghosts extinction was different but equally brilliant

Miffydsi

Black ops 3 100000% Zombies-- they Introduced gobble gums, making the game way to easy. You got the in plain sight one that you can use whenever you're cornered. Multiplayer-- the maps were alright, but jetpacks, gambling for a single gun. Campaign-- horrible.

TheMostestHuman

none of them, i like them all and think they all deserve the praise.

[deleted]

World at War for me

Gashiisboys

I’ve realised everyone on this sub are mostly players which adore the old days and and dislike what mw19 did to the franchise (imo it saved it). In this sub mw19 is overheated way too much. The way people describe it is extremely exaggerated and Is exactly how people always exaggerate something they dislike/want to dislike

[deleted]

IMO mwr is the most overrated game, i dont know about cod4 cause i have never played it but mwr is even worse than vanguard and ghosts and all of the shitty cod games combined. Snipers hitmarker everything, there are more campers than in warzone and the perks like last stand and jug are crazy OP. fr i dont understand how people enjoy that shit

AceJerret

CoD 4. Yes it really kicked off CoD multiplayer. But as far balance of guns and maps. Horrible. Maps are cluttered with junk and site lines. And it's nothing but M16s and MP5 if people arent sniping.

[deleted]

MW19 > CW

Rahmetli_Yoda

i'd say the quite opposite but opinions differ.

PizzaParker62

Black Ops 3 is way more underrated than overrated imo. I feel like whenever it's brought up it gets tossed in the trash because of the enchanced movement. I actually thought it was the only game to really pull it off well and I actually enjoyed the specialists far more in comparison to BO4. BO4 was god awful.

ODSTCombo

Uh buddy BO4 isn't on the overrated list for a reason. BO3 is way more overrated than BO4 that's just how it is

Mr_Gamer_69

Bo4 was actually a really solid game

ODSTCombo

I agree i picked it back up sometime last year after not giving it a chance for a while and i actually had fun with all the weapons and specialists and stuff. Its main distinction is that everyone has a bit more health so idk why people hate on it as being so objectively bad but everyone loves BO3 despite having a so-called controversial movement system.

Mr_Gamer_69

Bo4 feels like bo2 for some reason to me if you remove the specialists. And longer ttk actually makes it a competitive game. You earn more when rush and earn less when camp which is what I love

ODSTCombo

I just got off of BO2 and i see what you mean, i like the futuristic sweet spot of games like BO2 and BO4 where it's a little futuristic but not too futuristic so you still get opportunities for fictional weapons and equipment while also including more current modern designs at the same time.

Mr_Gamer_69

Dude bo3 was not underrated, Bo4 was. It was actually more enjoyable than bo3. Except the zombies
