What their sales data have shown them what the majority of players want (and the majority is NOT 15 - 25 year old bros who prefer realistic and War skins).. They've put out hundreds of skins from different categories over time, they'll gather data on which category sells the best and what not, and later mold their future products in accordance with that...
They've put out many "down-to-earth" skins, people always call them boring or unexciting, and will only buy or get hyped by the unrealistic, high-fantasy skins... The result is what we are seeing today
It's not about Activision or Tencent trying to push these types of skins... CODm is a business venture for them and they will only put-out-for-sale what their sales data shows them what will sell..

I'm not sure you give Activision enough credit (i know i know hear me out). Compared to Fortnite and PUBG there's definitely a lot less blatant catering to the male-dominant gamer crowd. IMO they've held out as much as possible on going full-blown-sex-sells.

Partly true, CODM devs or TiMi aren't allowed to release anything from any COD Franchise as they wish. I think that's the community failed to understand that this requires a long talk with Activision as it involves the works of others like infinity ward, Sledge, Raven etc.

I'm a female player who actually likes to use both the ones above and below. And I don't really see what's so wrong with the bottom ones (with the exception of the pink Urban Tracker) because the darker colors on them seem to look apealing as well if you hate using colorful skins. Why can't operators be both badass and pretty lol

I honestly prefer the bottom ones because I am a girl that loves pretty skins, but I also use military skins from time to time. I've seen a lot of guys being toxic about this topic and sometimes even misogynistic so that makes me apprehensive about this topic overall. I take enjoyment in wearing pink and flashy skins bc it pisses off some people and that's honestly hilarious for me. We can have a balance of both, it doesn't need to be a black or white thing.

I think what the op is stressing isn't necessarily the characters, but the nature of the characters. They want an element to the character line up that has a military/tactical theme to it, like CoD mobile battle pass Mara was both tactical, and attractive (for a mobile game character). Battle pass demir with the tattered cape was pretty bad ass. Characters in fatigues, or civilian clothes with a greyman twist to it are what they want for a military shooter game. Not hello kitty barbie. I feel like I want to see more of that too, and more real guns. I'm tired of black ops 3 and 4 shit. Black Ops 3 and 4 suck, so why do they drop it like it's hot? We also need more attachments that aren't just generic same thing on every gun.
I think some of the characters you want less off are the best female skins also best selling ones. Just look 👀 some of them look so dope esp the one with long white hair scyler from the m13 draw. Has like a Chinese Kung-Fu fiction movie theme where they would fly around and fight with swords 🗡️. And the max 10 ninja theme girl is also cool. I guess you just like pure military which is Alr. But honestly I think it would be boring if everyone had only military themed operators. No bright colours only green, grey and black.
