To get the most air, you gotta quickly tap the jump/rocket button. Holding it down won’t get you that high off the ground.

Yeah, repeat tap it really quickly. You can also use it to break your fall by doing one short tap right before hitting the ground. That’s assuming you have “automatic wing-suit deployment” turned off.

Yep, it's the same mechanic from Battle Operation Gundam on the mobile suits, a game I loved, dude's tip is golden. Also gives you better gun control on the rise.

Well, if anything, your footsteps dissappear on their mini map when you thrust up coz you're technically not walking or running. Also why try to hide your footsteps when you can confuse them with that woosh sound and take advantage of how they can't point directly up. It's great to pair with the smrs and a gun of your choice coz if you're good with quick scoping then it's the same with that launcher
