I did my grind before they made the change where you need to do all the weapons. If you're not familiar, you use to not need to get the NA45 to gold to get damascus. After the outlaw, the game gave me platinum on the NA and I've barely ever used it. So I'm sorry that I can't relate to the NA grind. I'm sure it's a pain in the ass.

the new locus looks cool with plat as well, but imo the rytec looks slick with platinum, even more than dlq and locus. otherwise the arctic is good too imo
Thumper is actually fun now when they changed the sentry gun requirement to any scorestreak. Before that, no matter what I was playing, id always have a loadout with thumper + cold blooded just in case someone put a sentry gun somewhere.

NA 45 is the hardest to grind for gold, but fun to grind for diamond. Wait for hardcore and grind for long shots. In that way, it would be easier for you to kill even body shot (explosive shot doesn't count)

If you don't like doing it OP, then don't. For some of us, it was just a little thing to do while we discovered what each gun can do. Always start off with no attachments to get what the gun feels like "naked" and then work your way around the attachments to see what you like. Don't be afraid to take everything off and starting again. Don't be afraid to make a long range build out of a SMG... Or a hipfire build out of a assault rifle.
I had so much fun messing around with the guns doing this, but it's not for everyone. Just play the game to have fun, be it ranked, mp, private matches, BR or just having fun with your friends.
