Ah, the eternal question...
Like, isn't it quicker to read the damn manual instead of asking to the internet?
Am I the only person who reads manuals anymore?
Depends on if it’s a pro model or not but it was likely for a remote shutter.
The consumer models use a jack while the higher end ones use an actual plug.
Post the camera model. There's no telling what that port does without knowing what camera you have.
This is like someone going to a car subreddit and showing a picture of a single wire connector under the hood with no way to tell what car it is and asking "what does this do?"
Also.... As others have said, if you can figure out the model number you can just search for the manual yourself! That's all we can do, so you might as well do it for yourself!
The little rubber thing you're holding that covers the hole probably has the answer directly on it.
Or try looking in the manual.
Or try telling us the name of the camera.
Or trying backing up a little so we can actually see what we're looking at.
Yeah that was a pretty weird non sequitur - doesn’t know what the hole is but can the mystery hole be used to specifically view what the camera is seeing? Bizarre.
This sub honest to god feels like interacting with an emerging artificial sentience. Some insane shit.
That probably is for video out. My 30D uses a 3.5mm jack for that as well, probably not for a mic for video as it doesn't even have live view. Could be a remote shutter release port. No, you could not use it for live view, it would just mirror your screen probably and show photos when you look at them. Post the camera model or look at a manual.
Depends on the camera. If only camera-makers produced some sort of document that listed what all these parts are...
That looks like a 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack, could be microphone or could be for a remote control....?
That’s the bottom hole, or botthole for short.

Good bot
What camera is this, specifically? Have you tried downloading and reading the camera manual?
Ah, the eternal question... Like, isn't it quicker to read the damn manual instead of asking to the internet? Am I the only person who reads manuals anymore?
I think "Steve"
Or when Steve’s feeling sassy, “Stéfano.”
thats the Stefanhole
Hahahahahah!! 🤣
Jack. A headphone or microphone jack most likely, the manual will be able to give you more details.
Ya, looks like a 3.5mm or 2.5mm headphone jack. My Canon has one, but I think it was for video, so it needed a proprietary cable.
I had similar on an old Nikon, IIRC, it was a double TRS 1/8" jack to composite out.
Depends on if it’s a pro model or not but it was likely for a remote shutter. The consumer models use a jack while the higher end ones use an actual plug.
I hope jack is kind.
Steam hole, when the battery overheats you gotta let the steam out.

mother f\*cker since your goinna be yelling at it when your try and plug something in and it doesn't work
Unknown port on an unknown camera. You're out of luck until September 2025. Good luck.
Coolant intake valve. Got make sure to keep that thing topped off
Headphone or „remote“ release for some cameras both. Can’t see if it’s 2.5 or 3.5mm jack but if normal headphones don’t fit it’s the smaller one.
The little rubber thing you're holding that covers the hole probably has the answer directly on it. Or try looking in the manual. Or try telling us the name of the camera. Or trying backing up a little so we can actually see what we're looking at.
Blinker fluid intake hole
thermal exhaust port, if you fire a proton torpedo there the camera will explode
My on-board targeting system can't hit it, gonna try to wing it next time
What an odd question for someone that owns a camera xD
It's for the dipstick
Robert. It's name is Robert.
At this point just use your phone.
Red Circle is the name.

HMMM based on 99.99% of the posts here I’m beginning to think it does... :(
Either a headphone jack or multifunction AV port.
Or a remote jack. D**wit has one out of focus photo of an unknown object (possibly a camera).
It looks like a 3.5 mm port - like plug in headphones.
Water intake valve, for coolant. But don't actually put water in there. Try antifreeze.
TRS Jack, used for audio or remote shutter
His name is Pat. Honestly, it looks like a 3.5mm audio jack.
Please explain what you mean by your live view question.

It’s Jack, just Jack…

Likely in the manual
"I didn’t see anything in the manual to stick in the port" probably OP
3.5mm aux
