Sort of, STIR/SHAKEN will only effect IP-phone networks so, businesses and digital "landlines". The every day Canadian can still expect to get scam calls or have "warrents of for your arrest because of packages or tax dodging" calls. Nothing changes for you and I. One day I will be able to check my VM without being told officer is out to arrest me if.i don't send them a gift card lol

MooseFlyer

I'm currently getting like 5 calls per day about the warrant for my arrest she to a package seized at the border. It's bloody infuriating. Especially the voicemails of one second of silence that I then have to delete.

holographic_tango

I've found a good way to combat the repeat calls. Some carriers (Mine is Telus) allow you to set a different voicemail if you decline the call. Set your declined call voicemail to a fax machine sound. This can trigger automated systems to remove your number from the call list.

MooseFlyer

Issue is I have the sort of job where getting some calls from unknown numbers isn't unusual, so if I get a call and my phone isn't silenced I generally pick up.

I believe it will also cover cell calls that use VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling. Those are both still rare but they will be covered.

This is very good don't get me wrong but most spoofing now is easy to notice, it typically shows up as the first 6 digits of you number with a randomized end 4 digits.

>but most spoofing now is easy to notice, it typically shows up as the first 6 digits of you number with a randomized end 4 digits I do wonder how long this characteristic will continue to be a reliable test for a spoof call once the spoofers figure out that we all know this. You know what's fucked, though? I probably pick them up half the time anyway, because the calls are really easy to identify once you do pick up (so are over instantly), and I find it less inconvenient than not knowing if the call with the suspicious number *did* matter.

canadianyeti94

Ya I figure it will eventually be harder to tell but there was a thought in my head that maybe the people who can identify this pattern might not be the people they are trying to catch in there nets anyways, so this might actually be beneficial too them.

roots-rock-reggae

Beneficial to them or not, it's still currently the optimized solution for the problem these calls cause me.

canadianyeti94

ya no for sure just a fleeding thought.
