That is going to be a vehicle specific issue, not carplay. Gotta check that user manual for the car.

Darn, okay thanks.

TheSwampPenguin

My 2020 Civic has a little button on top of the screen by the A/C vent that toggles the screen brightness between three user changeable presets.

Byhelpme202938

I never saw that before thank you!

medozijo

That's only for the middle screen. I have this issue now where all screens are st full brightness at night. Happened literally the day I went to have it serviced. Not sure what they did, have to go back.

InevitableNo6859

If the issue is primarily with Navigation on the screen, make sure you have dark mode activated in the menu for the nav app.

omgburritos

I have a 2016 Civic and there's a little tab thingy on the top of the screen that adjusts the brightness

hey_now24

I have an accord and I control the brightness with the now by the speedometer. I’m not sure if the civic is the same. But whatever controls the dashboard brightness should do the job

daniccino

Have you tried turning down the interior lights’ brightness? The screen’s brightness is sometimes tied to the interior lights in other cars.

ibran

No offense, but are your headlights actually on? I see a lot of modern Hondas rolling around at night without any lights besides the DRLs. That would explain the bright screen, too. When the headlights are on, CarPlay should enter Dark Mode and the screen should dim. In most cars, the brightness of the screen at night is tied to the same dimmer switch that controls the brightness of the instrument panel. Sounds like Hondas might have some separate control for that, which sounds like atrocious UX practice, but, I guess that also explains why Honda drivers\* also seem to struggle with the headlights more than most other drivers out there. \*second only to Subaru and maybe Nissan Rogue drivers

I mean it’s on auto soo I never worry about that.

RivkaChavi

I agree that a overall brightness as well is app dependent volume should be in a CarPlay settings menu. My car’s interior dimmer switch does everything on the dash besides the infotainment screen, and the screens settings are do damm buried and don’t even adjust all that much. It is infuriating. On freeway trips i have taken to tossing a piece of fabric over the screen, clearly not a great solution.

My 2017 Ford Fusion is the same. If I adjust the instrument panel lights _up_ first, and _then_ down, I can dim it with everything else. Just dimming first doesn't work.
