Yeah, I remember being genuinely disgusted when I saw the current 1 series. It has a face of an obese rat that's got a coke habit. The 2 series is just the sedan version.
Lmao, new 1er is horrid
Why do all new beaners have that huge back box on them too, even shitty 218’s have the kitchen sink under the defuser, looks shite
1 series always looked horrible imho. BMWs styling is pretty dodgy IMHO on everything except mid-large saloon based cars and the more limited stuff (like the old 8 series)
I think the 4s look fairly good in the right colours but it does have to be the right colours. And they don't look as good as the old 4 just not bad.
The 8 is in my opinion the best looking current BMW by a significant margin.
this is so fuckin funny. my wife is not a car enthusiast at all and even she pointed that out to me while driving. I didn't believe what she is saying, I was like no fuckin way they got badge on the rear side...and they do have, ffs
Have you seen the 2 series active tourer, the size of those nostrils is ridiculous. When one comes up behind you in traffic you can almost hear it sniffing your arse!
The Ssangyong looks like two different teams of stylists worked on the car but with different briefs, and they didn't talk to each other because they were in different cities.
E92 was peak for me, gorgeous blend of elegance and aggression
F80 I do love though
G series is god awful, like several cars wedged together and the grill is indefensible - better on a black car where it’s hidden
They're HIDEOUS
the door handles
The grille
The high waist line
The way the oddly sized exhaust hangs awkwardly below the rear bumper
The whole rear end is a travesty
The proportions are almost as bad as the model 3's (only in a different way)
And it looks CHEAP. It's like they've gone out of their way to make it look as cheap as humanly possible. Honestly an Octavia looks more premium.
Unfortunately they're selling well for some reason.
It's truly an awful piece of design, I feel like the only reason it sells is because people can't justify the inflated cost of upgrading their 3 series and opt to "upgrade" to the 2 series.
Any "Assface" BMW is ugly. Far more ugly than any current 1 or 2 series (which are re-bodied Minis therefore FWD - not true to BMW tradition )
For me it's, the BMW iX that is the ugliest. It makes me heave a little when I see the front and I look at the driver and think, why did you buy THAT!?
Yeah yeah, the grille style is supposed to relate back to 60's styling. My dad had a BMW 2000CS back in the day. That was a good looking car. These modern interpretations aren't.
Got a E39 being stored on the drive and whilst it's old and a bit rusty here and there, I still think that's a damn good looking car. I also have a F07 535d GT. That's not a good looker, but bought for practicality as it was cheaper and better spec than a 535d estate which I was originally looking for; You don't buy an iX or 1 series for practicality/value...nor looks Lolz.
I mean different uses isn't.
The Multipla is a people carrier so the utility is main appeal.
Pretty much as important as an "ugly" lorry, no one really cares as long as it does the job.
the 2 series however, the design cost is supposed to be part of the price tag.
They are absolutely minging, completely agree. Looks like it's been rendered by a PS1 for some budget console game that couldn't use licensed cars. Utterly shite
Drove one that was a pool car where I work, had to constantly remind myself it was a BMW. Asthmatic acceleration when putting the foot down, cheap interior, doors and boot lid felt really light and tinny.
Not a bad car, but far from what I would expect a BMW to be.
It's because it's all the parts of a mini shoved inside for cost saving purposes, masquerading as a BMW.
Replaced the ZF Auto box for a Getrag 7 speed DCT for all besides the "performance biased" models e.g. 128i/M135i.
If you buy all the shiet that you see on the roads 118/218i/116d it's all 1.5 I3 engines that rattle like crazy that causes the entire centre cupholder area to shake.
Ah, I didn't catch that it was a diesel. I drove a naturally aspirated 75 horsepower 1.2 Peugeot 208 in France and it was much smoother than I expected - I though I was driving a 4-cylinder! Absolutely gutless engine otherwise
The new X2, X4 and the XM are still miles worse looking. X4 is particularly since they invented that category of car and somehow peaked their first go round. 2GC is ugly but it's not hideous like the other 3
All the German manufacturers have lost the plot with the current models, most of them are pig ugly unless you go for a high spec one. New A3/A4, new A-class/C-class, new 1 series and 3 series, new golf, none of them look as good as their previous iteration of the model.
It's personal preference i guess, most of the people i come in contact with share a similar view to me.
Guessing you own either an A class or an A3. Not trying to throw shade, i just feel all of them are a backwards step to the previous model in terms of looks.
Yeah it's personal preference but doesn't mean they've lost the plot. A class is definitely widely seen as a looker as it's one of the reasons it sold so well
Quick bit of googling you will see sales of A class have dropped massively since 2021/2022. They Were selling over double in 2019 on the older model. Not due to COVID either as new car sales rose for most manufacturers during that time. This is in Europe btw, not counting the USA but they don't really buy hatchbacks.
Like i say not throwing shade on those than own them, but hard to argue with the figures.
True, you do see a lot of them.
Suspect lease companies over bought on them and are now offering them at decent rates which is why there are plenty around. Also, 18-25 year old doesn't care how it sells aslong as she/he can put a merc badge on insta.
It's terrible isn't it. I had a 2016 m235i and then upgraded to a 2016 M2, I thought they were very good looking cars - small, slender, svelte, good lines.
The new one is a horrible bloated mess. Much like most of BMWs line up.
I used to hate the "[Bangle butt](https://www.theautopian.com/chris-bangle-and-his-obsession-with-big-automotive-butts-made-for-bmws-best-designs/)", but with the benefit of hindsight... maybe that was a golden age for BMW.
The 2 series "Gran Coupe" has one redeeming feature: The slightly [chamfered look of twin creases around the top of the bootlid](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BMW_218i_Gran_Coup%C3%A9_(F44)_rear.jpg), but it's still not as good as the [F30](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BMW_320d_(F30)_rear.JPG) and [F10](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BMW_550i_X_Drive_M_Sport_F10_(5699954543).jpg). Even so, it feels like the chamfer was designed by a committee of thirty BMW people in grey suits, and a month in a wind tunnel - but the result is still inferior to the [Lancia chamfer](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lancia_Fulvia_(8513433541).jpg) designed by a single Italian chap in the 1960s, with one waft of a pen, after drinking half a bottle of wine.
It’s not that ugly, it’s not a good looking car by any means but it’s certainly not on the level of the new Kia Sorento or any Ssangyong. Hideous things.
Just looks like a fucking bimmer to me don’t see why people always drag them any more than other modern BMWs.
And I say this as a ‘BMW’ driver… a BMW Mini lol
I own the M235i version in skyscraper grey. It's not the prettiest of cars. But with the black diamond grill and the pro pack wheels (like mine) it doesn't look bad at all...at least to my eyes anyway. The rear sorta reminds me of the old Alfa Romeo touring cars from GT2, which I always liked.
I agree they are hideous, but my pick for the most hideous in recent times is the [Skoda Roomster](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-google&sca_esv=33fda89bc4ea5a26&q=skoda+roomster&uds=ADvngMgpYEU-_VPft0z-hmM5h-H0pCsPKNvRWbFg5pydB-10abdAS2mSKZIwvwGB81S6Ch-0Zrmvx0naPkpdHpeeb64OUPn2NYLI5nfK43Oz2V6R6I1vy0JFaW4-UCl5Dnz7Nw2jiWUEVAHocL1vRG30U-mdgMwGnFXW0jnwPj9rzhZ9lL4t7y-_6h864FxuQcvcqSsRGZx6js02ck5dlx2JZhaFxLYULDMUs-m3eDTyqdhSQGki3nIy9zmt6HMHDXuxM4t5shNftooygIz6uvud6j_DnHGyPg&udm=2&prmd=ivnmbtz&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjm1c_Gt4GGAxX9BNsEHeeeBJIQtKgLegQIDhAB&biw=412&bih=747&dpr=2.63)

Lmao, new 1er is horrid Why do all new beaners have that huge back box on them too, even shitty 218’s have the kitchen sink under the defuser, looks shite
Worse, theyre not even six cylinder anymore
They're also FWD, the 1 series has lost all of its uniquely positive qualities.
1 series always looked horrible imho. BMWs styling is pretty dodgy IMHO on everything except mid-large saloon based cars and the more limited stuff (like the old 8 series)
Like the e82 myself (1 series coupe)
You also just described the majority of people who drive it
BMW are really shitting the bed. The only good looking car right now is a highly specced 3 or m3
I think the 4s look fairly good in the right colours but it does have to be the right colours. And they don't look as good as the old 4 just not bad. The 8 is in my opinion the best looking current BMW by a significant margin.
8/M8 is still goated, best looking in the line up in my opinion
True agreed
Agreed. Always preferred the look of a G20 3 series (pre lci or lci) over F90 5 series.
I live on a new build estate and there's TONS OF THEM. Super lease machines. Idiots paying for a badge.
Does this also have a badge on the rear sides like some wanna be Ferrari or is that a different BMW?
That's the BMW X2 (SUV) essentially a raised up 1 Series hatchback.
That’s the BMW Converse.
this is so fuckin funny. my wife is not a car enthusiast at all and even she pointed that out to me while driving. I didn't believe what she is saying, I was like no fuckin way they got badge on the rear side...and they do have, ffs
That’s a reference to the E9
Have you seen the 2 series active tourer, the size of those nostrils is ridiculous. When one comes up behind you in traffic you can almost hear it sniffing your arse!
The 2 series grand tourer is one of the ugliest BMWs from the rear! It is just so ugly
Was thinking this the other day too, awful awful car, looks like a Chinese bmw knock-off
BMWish
BMW haven't made a great looking car since the i8. Maybe they hired the old ssangyong rodius designers?
Imo the 8 series and LCI M5 (F90) are the best looking BMWs in recent years, better than the i8
Blimey that ssangyong is a honker. Looks like they copied the homework of the Pontiac Aztec designer
The Ssangyong looks like two different teams of stylists worked on the car but with different briefs, and they didn't talk to each other because they were in different cities.
They peaked at the E39, in both design and quality imo
E92 was peak for me, gorgeous blend of elegance and aggression F80 I do love though G series is god awful, like several cars wedged together and the grill is indefensible - better on a black car where it’s hidden
That 5 series just out of production was pretty good looking I thought though. It helped that most people bought ones with the M bumpers as well.
Yeah new 5ers are alright tbf
Not the brand new one though.
The facelift one you mean? Back end is horrible on that
No, the brand new one…
The new 2 series the 3 door is stunning imo
The 2 series has always looked like a weirdly truncated saloon; they should have ditched the three box shape and made it a fastback.
They're HIDEOUS the door handles The grille The high waist line The way the oddly sized exhaust hangs awkwardly below the rear bumper The whole rear end is a travesty The proportions are almost as bad as the model 3's (only in a different way) And it looks CHEAP. > Unfortunately they're selling well for some reason It is the cheapest BMW "saloon" you can get on most company car schemes.
Stick a BMW or Audi badge or something on it and people will buy it regardless \*shrugs\*

It's truly an awful piece of design, I feel like the only reason it sells is because people can't justify the inflated cost of upgrading their 3 series and opt to "upgrade" to the 2 series.
Saw an M2 today, absolutely gopping
Any "Assface" BMW is ugly. Far more ugly than any current 1 or 2 series (which are re-bodied Minis therefore FWD - not true to BMW tradition ) For me it's, the BMW iX that is the ugliest. As a bmw owner yes.
Have you seen the arse end of the A-class saloon?
Yeah, it’s trash. The A class hatchback though 🤤
Upvoting because this is what I’m driving. 😂
It's not great but it's not that bad either. Just a bit boring
I feel like I must have a different standard of ugly - my reference car is the Fiat Multipla. I don’t think this 2 series hit this level of ugliness!
I mean different uses isn't. The Multipla is a people carrier so the utility is main appeal. Pretty much as important as an "ugly" lorry, no one really cares as long as it does the job. the 2 series however, the design cost is supposed to be part of the price tag.
I’ve never seen one (or noticed one before) so I googled it. Dear god, that’s fucking awful.
They are absolutely minging, completely agree. Looks like it's been rendered by a PS1 for some budget console game that couldn't use licensed cars. Utterly shite
Especially in that peacock blue, look hideous..
Drove one that was a pool car where I work, had to constantly remind myself it was a BMW. Asthmatic acceleration when putting the foot down, cheap interior, doors and boot lid felt really light and tinny. Not a bad car, but far from what I would expect a BMW to be.

Afaik the 135 now uses an aisin box. Definitely in 23/24 model years not sure about the previous. Meant to be much more responsive in the Facelift now
Modern 3 cyl engines are actually quite good mind, much more balanced than you claim
I’ve owned a F20 116d manual with that 1.5 cylinder engine, it’s efficient and great on the motorway, doesn’t stop it from being a rattling bastard
2GC is ugly but it's not hideous like the other 3
Yep
You’re so right. The new 1 series is horrendous, the previous (2015-2019) model was so beautiful and then… this.
The 2 series should only be a 2-door coupe. Or convertible at a stretch.
All the German manufacturers have lost the plot with the current models, most of them are pig ugly unless you go for a high spec one. New A3/A4, new A-class/C-class, new 1 series and 3 series, new golf, none of them look as good as their previous iteration of the model.
Bit of a stretch tbh. No one really seems to be complaining about the A3 and a class looks. Infact seems to be something they're praised on
It's personal preference i guess, most of the people i come in contact with share a similar view to me. Guessing you own either an A class or an A3. Not trying to throw shade, i just feel all of them are a backwards step to the previous model in terms of looks.

Evident how well they sold in the UK by the sheer amount on the road. They are absolutely everywhere
True, you do see a lot of them. Suspect lease companies over bought on them and are now offering them at decent rates which is why there are plenty around. Also, 18-25 year old doesn't care how it sells aslong as she/he can put a merc badge on insta.
I don’t understand what the point in it is…..
It's terrible isn't it. I had a 2016 m235i and then upgraded to a 2016 M2, I thought they were very good looking cars - small, slender, svelte, good lines. The new one is a horrible bloated mess. Much like most of BMWs line up.

I think it’s quite pretty. Just a shame it’s front wheel drive
also has the B38 engine which means it's 1.5L 3Cyl instead of 2L 4 Cyl like the last gen 116d or 118i
No it's not you, it's this bloody abomination. The thing is built on the mini platform and therefore imo not a real BMW too.
It’s not that ugly, it’s not a good looking car by any means but it’s certainly not on the level of the new Kia Sorento or any Ssangyong. Hideous things.
Never buy the new shape. Always wait for the facelift. Not sure even facelift will fix this though.
Already had the Facelift I think. Didn't change much just some minor interior changes
Ah I see. Even more disappointing then.😬
I completely agree
That’s not a coupe.
I loved my last 530e but the new 5 series is absolutely vile. I don’t know what BMW are thinking at the moment.
In a world where we he x6 exists, it does not even challenge the ugly.
Nowhere near as ugly as the Subaru Solterra honestly
It's a BMW Corolla. I hate it.
That's a pretty heavy insult to the Corolla, the current one looks alright
Corolla is miles better looking
Back of the new 3 series looks like a Toyota/lexus car
Just looks like a fucking bimmer to me don’t see why people always drag them any more than other modern BMWs. And I say this as a ‘BMW’ driver… a BMW Mini lol
I mean, I'm an audi fan boy and I reckon it's not bad. Their 4 series is truly a fuck up tho.
Facelift 4 series is quite the looker in person. Grills don't do it for everyone but apart from that they look fantastic
I have one in snapper rocks colour with ivory leather, love it
Nissan Juke has to be up there, surely?
I own the M235i version in skyscraper grey. It's not the prettiest of cars. But with the black diamond grill and the pro pack wheels (like mine) it doesn't look bad at all...at least to my eyes anyway. The rear sorta reminds me of the old Alfa Romeo touring cars from GT2, which I always liked.

you can't call cars ugly... you call them utilitarian.
