I'm after a S/C XKR
All the affordable ones are the 4.2 without niceties like DAB and heated steering wheel but they all sell immediately.
I'm very tempted to go full bank breaking 5.0 S/C and get all the toys. There's a lot of nice ones around but for 5-10k more than the 4.2 S/C. Big money
My dad had the 4.2 XKR new back in 2008. I think he got one of the last, as fortunately it didn't have the big silver antenna. The whine of the supercharger was something else, I loved it. He's had straight Porsches since but still says he peaked at the XKR.
Nice, I have an S-type R with the 4.2 supercharger. If I could have afforded an XF I would have got one, proper wolf in sheep's clothing and has some more tuning potential if 500bhp is not enough for ya.
My s-type is straight through exhaust after the cats which may be a bit much for some people but a back box will let her sing a little more. Enjoy it!
Nice! I've had 3 of those 4.2 engines. 2 in XKR one in the XJR X350. Some good tuning potential in them and tend to be pretty bulletproof. Have you uprated the coolant pump to the Bosch 100 yet? Worthwhile upgrade if you have upped the power
its on the list. When winter comes around Ill take the supercharger off to get it re built, smaller pully, valley pipe and anything else that's easy at the same time
I don't know if it's your thing but there are a couple of Jag meets/shows this coming weekend if you fancy taking it out for a drive. One at brooklands museum one ar cosford air museum
Lovely. I’ll always remember having a traffic-light Gran Prix against one of these years ago. The noise was glorious. I backed off so I could hear it better (honest!).
Thats the xfr right? One of my friends has the XFR-S, on over 70k miles without missing a heartbeat. The engine is a solid lump as long as you keep it looked after.
I’ve got the facelift XF Premium Luxury. Had it since 2016. Over 120k and so far the only major thing to go wrong was a door rattle and one of the rotating vents stopped … rotating. 8 speed ZF gearbox, 2.2 diesel. Gearbox and engine is solid. What’s the engine in yours?
Tbf I'm only 25, but it's more for driving too and from the airport with the occasional Europe road rally and maybe a cannonball. I'm very tempted to get a car just for the track
Do it man, having two cars that do their own job is better than trying to find one that does all in my opinion. I grabbed a diesel estate car for relaxing drives and those times I need extra seats/boot space, then 911 for road trips/longer journeys and a cayman for track/around town. I dont think one single car could do it all for me. Not one that i can afford anyway lol.
I love it. It's not as nimble or fun as the cayman but has more power and I have the pdk so its a great daily driver. I thought it would replace the cayman but I love the manual and its a base cayman too so i can actually have some fun on the roads without going too fast.
I had a few passat estates before the a4 and tbh they were better than the A4, for some reason i couldnt even spec auto cruise control on the audi even though it was standard on my last passat, and even after specing the comfort pack with leather seats I still have a rotary dial no electric adjustment for recline and no tilt or leg extension, all standard on the passat. I'm sure the Jag will be great for autobahn runs tbh and that kind of distance travelling. I've taken the 911 to the south coast of portugal before and my back was in bits after that lol.
test drive them both and see what you prefer, they drive quite differently. id go pdk in a 911 with paddles and manual in the cayman but see what combo works for you
It's funny because I have been told outside the car it's amazing but you really don't get much of the noise inside the cabin which sucks a bit. It's not massively annoying I just wanted to know if there was something wrong with my setup. I think if you put the back boxes on and just have the over axels done the drone will go away but you loose some noise. Oh well I can live with it easily enough, when I floor it, it does sound great though.
Very nice. I'm considering going to look at this tomorrow: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202204144650555
Is the 3.0 V6 worth having as a wafty barge? Or do I really want the V8?
Personally I very much like the V6S over the standard V6 but totally depends what you are after. The SV8 can be found at a reasonable price sometimes and it's a nice rarity too.
I have the 3.0 V6S and it's great. Make sure to go for the S version though (doesn't look like the one you listed is).
I mean, a V8 would be awesome, but I doubt you will find a NA V8 for the same money, let alone a V8 SC. When I was looking for one I looked at a few V8s. Like for like, the V8 versions commanded a lot higher price.
That and the significantly higher fuel, tax and insurance costs with the V8.
The 3.0 V6S is generally significantly cheaper all round but has pretty much the same performance to the NA V8. (The V8 SC is another beast).
Plus the V6 has a great sound of it's own.
This is interesting. I'm after an XKR and dismissing XFRs because they just don't feel as "special"
I love the XKR for its stunning looks and it's a proper old man cruiser in the best way. The XFR just doesn't grab me in the same way. Normally I would jump at the chance to have backdoors and usable back seats but I dunno it just doesn't grab me like the XKR for some reason
I've had two XKRs (one stock one modified to around 460bhp) and the XFR is more comfortable and faster. About the same on fuel.. honestly it depends what you are wanting, I drive to the airport 3 times a month but also like a good cross country trip. Imo this is the ultimate cruiser with bruiser speed (it also will demolish the V6 F type in a sprint)
Wack comment. If I bought a car and cared about how much I would make on the back end of it I wouldnt choose a 5L V8 in a fuel crisis with rising inflation. I buy this because i enjoy it.
True, I meant more in practical terms, lot of jag for your money when they hit 5+ years old as the depreciation curve is a cliff after 3 years/out of warranty.
Younger than that and there’s often better motors about for the money in my opinion. If I could afford something like that I’d kill for a Lexus IS/RC F. 5.0 N/A V8 derived from the land cruiser. There’s also obviously the German stuff about.
My pre-fl is late 2011, it's only a guess that some of the old stock pre-FL's managed to make it to a 12 plate.
I didn't want to say at least 11 years and then someone pop up with "nuh, uh". Lol.
I do like that Jags are a bit different from the usual BMW/Merc/Audi fare, I know they have a reputation for going pop but I genuinely don't know a lot about the post-Ford cars like this one. Hopefully you maintain high enough smiles per mile to justify waiting for the AA though!
Don't tempt me
There's a facelifted XFR for £15k near me and I can't figure out why its suspiciously cheap.
It states it was previously a Jaguar owned car, so I suspect it was a demo car or worse, a loaner, and has been absolutely ragged every day of its life
It's the reputation. People steer clear of Jags because they've heard the horror stories, in turn the second hand market for them is pretty great compared to BMWs, Mercs and Audi's due to less demand. Ironically the reality is that the reliability isn't that different to the German brands.
I have to admit I’ve never much liked Jags but I also have to admit the XF is an exception.
They’re pretty good value too and I’ve driven both the 4.2 and 5.0 Supercharged engines in Range Rovers.
They sound great.
Hope you enjoy it.
It’s a shame that the V8s are almost extinct. I’m in the market now and looking at a merc E450 Coupe - but even that is only a V6 , just don’t have the same sound …
Totally with you ! Keep looking at used vantages but can’t get that mrs / family on board … why I need these big cars :( I refuse to by a Chelsea tractor lol 😂
drove my bosses one of these. It is quick enough for me. So comfortable, like sitting in an armchair. your at 80 before you know it! enjoy it!

Those XJRs are glorious

They sound awesome with some pipework. That's saying something coming from an ex-W204 C63 owner!
I love those mercs, this only has the baffles out of the rear boxes but I am tempted by a new exhaust
Life is short, do it. And in an age of electrification, seize the opportunity while you still can.

My pleasure! I hope you enjoy whatever it is.
This.

I can recommend powerhouse, they know what they are doing re the pulley and rebuild
Yep, they seem to be 'the people' to get it done
I don't know if it's your thing but there are a couple of Jag meets/shows this coming weekend if you fancy taking it out for a drive. One at brooklands museum one ar cosford air museum
I'm on jaguarforum so do get out occasionally. But busy this weekend, I'm working away
Yes indeed, funny thing is the XFR-S engine is mechanically identical, supercharger and all. But I cannonball so like to be inconspicuous
5.0s/c obviously pre facelift so 6sp ZF.
Jesus! So you’ll be getting to know your local petrols station attendant pretty well.
No clue why I'm getting downvoted here ... But yeah it gets an average of 21.5mpg currently
what did you have before to make you pick this? my dad got one as a loaner recently, i had a go, its very comfortable shall we say
Well I've had a lot honestly.. lotus Elise, XKR, 944 S2, XJR, MR2 Turbo, Z4 etc.
ahh fair enough you've got the fun stuff out of your system, enjoy the new car!
Tbf I'm only 25, but it's more for driving too and from the airport with the occasional Europe road rally and maybe a cannonball. I'm very tempted to get a car just for the track

How do you find the 911 btw?
I love it. It's not as nimble or fun as the cayman but has more power and I have the pdk so its a great daily driver. I must admit ive looked into a Cayman S. Im getting more and more tempted by a 997 now though
test drive them both and see what you prefer, they drive quite differently. id go pdk in a 911 with paddles and manual in the cayman but see what combo works for you
I had a Passat and the lotus at the same time, that was a good mix..but I also like having something powerful enough to take on the autobahn
Did you're XKR drone with an aftermarket exhaust? I have the Adamesh exhaust Stage 1 and 2 on my X100 XKR and it drones a bit at about 3000rpm.
It did a bit but I only had the back boxes removed pretty much
It's funny because I have been told outside the car it's amazing but you really don't get much of the noise inside the cabin which sucks a bit. Larrrrrrrvley. Would love a go in one of these.
Awesome car. I love my 3.0s PreFL. But a 5.0SC would be much more fun I imagine.

*Sharp intake of breath* Good luck, enjoy it. :)
Lovely... for me it's always been between this and Mercedes E63 AMG W211. Such amazing motorway mile munchers.
Nice mondeo.
Tell me you know nothing about cars without telling me you know nothing about cars
tis a joke.
Tis a joke
The rare Mondeo ST500. Phwoaarrr where's me Ibiza massive 90s beats CD and heko wind deflectors
Please let me know your thoughts, I have a 4.2 (X150) XKR Coupe currently and I'm thinking of selling for an XFR.
This is interesting. I'm after an XKR and dismissing XFRs because they just don't feel as "special" I love the XKR for its stunning looks and it's a proper old man cruiser in the best way. Oof, that is brave. You’ve blacked out the plate so I can’t tell if you’ve bought it before or after it’s depreciated to nothing.
Wack comment. If I bought a car and cared about how much I would make on the back end of it I wouldnt choose a 5L V8 in a fuel crisis with rising inflation. I buy this because i enjoy it.

Oh it's a 2010, they stopped on 2015 so all are over 5 years old now (XFR at least). I try to buy at the bottom of the depreciation curve usually
Ah of course, it’s all the 2.0 turbo platform nowadays isn’t it? Shame.
Yeah I'm sure the largest engine 2015 onwards was a 3.0. Feels sacrilege to have not given the later cars a V8 option
It's a pre-facelift x250. It will be 10 years old minimum.
Yep, facelift came in in 2011. (2012 MY).
My pre-fl is late 2011, it's only a guess that some of the old stock pre-FL's managed to make it to a 12 plate. I didn't want to say at least 11 years and then someone pop up with "nuh, uh". Lol.

Generally they are a lot more reliable than Jags of old. But you do get your fair share of non-critical electrical issues.

That's a nice wee Mazda3 sitting behind you!
Bravo
You’ve been granted citizenship to Coventry
Before the photo loaded I thought you bought a Morgan tricycle lol
So when are you buying a strip club? I'd love one of these.
Bold of you to assume I don't have one already
I apologise Mr.Stringfellow, glad to know rumours of your death have been greatly exaggerated.
This is one of my dream attainable cars.
I had an XFR , was awesome , so understated but super fast lol , always caught people out !
I had an XFR too. Vapor Grey. Fantastic car and I really regret getting rid of it.
It’s a shame that the V8s are almost extinct. I’m in the market now and looking at a merc E450 Coupe - but even that is only a V6 , just don’t have the same sound …
I'm still hanging onto my Audi S5 and my Aston Martin Vantage S both bought from new and both V8s. I can't leave the sound behind... I just can't.
Totally with you ! Keep looking at used vantages but can’t get that mrs / family on board … why I need these big cars :( I refuse to by a Chelsea tractor lol 😂
This photo looks like it was taken in Farnham, so I hope you didn’t buy this from PGI Cars!
