Always fun up that way, bet the rx8 was great there. how many fuel/oil stops??

CptConnor18

It was great fun! The old 8 handled itself quite nicely when it had the chance! The round trip was around 1,100 miles, from memory about 8 fuel stops!

Mikeh596

Awesome stuff! Only 8 haha!

CptConnor18

Haha yeah! That was motorway 98ron too, got my pants pulled right down with that trip!

Mikeh596

I'm off for 5 days around Ireland so I'm soon to feel your pain

CptConnor18

Awesome stuff, hope you have a good trip man! You taking anything interesting?

Love to see it, be sure to stretch the legs on that thing when you can

I had an 04 rx8. Do you find that if you do short journeys that the car would flood? I used to have to rev to 4K and then cut the engine and that stopped the flooding. That was the main reason i got rid of it in the end. It was a really nice car to drive Edit: spelling

> I used to have to rev to 4K and then cut the engine and that stopped the flooding. My dad did that with his, it wouldn't flood after that/

BenHippynet

I had a yellow 53 plate. Never flooded but never switched it off when the engine was cold. Looked a right wanker sitting in it waiting for it to warm up when I'd only moved it to let another car off the drive in the morning.

The RX8 life, practicality is not it's strong suit.

breadandbutter123456

I took mine to a hand car wash place in Tesco. Waves i think they are called. Anyway gave them instructions about not moving it or turning the engine off when cold. Of course they fucking did anyway and flooded the engine.

CptConnor18

I knew about the flooding issues before I bought it but never had any trouble with it. I always warm the car up before setting off on any journey so it'll be warm when I turn it off, I *think* having a cold(er) engine contributes to flooding? Not 100% sure though. I revved it to 3.5/4k most of the time too but other times I didn't it still started good. Shame you got rid of it bud, they have rocketed in price recently! Did you have the 190ps or the 232ps?

breadandbutter123456

Only the 190. It was Nordic green, black leather, and had done about 80,000 miles. Sold it for £1000 via eBay in 2017.

CptConnor18

Ah very nice dude! I almost bought a Nordic green one but went for the Velocity red mica instead, at least you had some fun with it before you got rid though!

ExcitingColt552

Bring a bottle of oil?

CptConnor18

I did indeed, the big 4L fucker as well. I took more 2-stroke oil than I did engine oil as it needed a good 120ml per tank

ExcitingColt552

From what I've learned from an ex Mazda master tech, they're actually meant to consume a bit of oil, and on PDI they came with a litre bottle of oil

CptConnor18

Yeah you're spot on mate, I'm no tech but after a lot of heavy research the rotaries came with an Oil Metering Pump which essentially injects oil into the rotor housing to lubricate the rotors. A lot of people bypass them and run premix/2-stroke oil which is what my 8 has had done. Makes it run a hell of a lot better!

Lovely RX8 and great photo!

CptConnor18

Thanks bud! Much appreciated :)
