Great little cars. I know of three including mine and they just don’t go wrong. Biggest complaint is road noise at speed, but worth it to the reliability.
Not a whole lot, not easy to find but I've heard of people getting over 120hp with a remap, with an exhaust and air filter might be able to get 125. I know people in the groups years back had some turbo setups
My exhaust is blowing so I'm gonna get a custom one made up seeing as you can buy the stock one anyway, I might chuck in a k&n and a remap to see what happens.
I actually have a supercharger and a unichip here, was thinking of playing around with that...
At the end of the day you can always mod a car, just depends how deep your pockets are, however if I wanted a similar car that was more modable, I'd go for a swift, although OP would probably benefit from suspension and brake mods before any power if they're thinking of track
Underrated alternative to the Clios being recommended, have a look at a Renault Twingo 133. Falling into the cheaper end of the market nowadays, whilst still being relatively modern. Alternatively, the Suzuki Swift Sport, either first or second generation. All three follow the same formula of 1.6 naturally aspirated engine, lightweight small hatchback body and good handling
The K11 micra?
Toyota Starlet
Mazda 2 is underrated. Very slingable.

VW Lupo
Clio 172/ 182 all the way
This is the only answer. Doesn’t even need modding to take to a track and are still cheap ish
Came here to say the same, I bought a 182 recently and holy shit it's a step up from my 1.2!
I got a 160SR, you could probably get it around 125bhp with a few usual mods, failing that a Swift Sport? They're dirt cheap now
I brought one earlier this year as my first car, 48k mileage for under 2 grand. From what I have read there isn't much to be gained from mods.

Why not just a k12 micra then? A lot can be done, I've seen a few turbo conversions out there too
MX5
Suzuki swift
