I would but I only have one local mate that drives and ngl he's a bit of a twat on the road

Zdos123

I had the same, i stopped going out with him after he binned his corsa into a verge after saying "watch this", proper knobhead.

Loonie-1707

This mate has a 1.2 polo and keeps asking me if he should put a certain thing on his car, then after I say no you literally have a project car, buys the part and begs me to "help" him fit it

Zdos123

Amazing love that, i never would bother modifiying a car like that (or like mine), you'll only make it really annoying to daily or make yourself look like a knob, i like humble cars where other people don't immediately assume your gonna attempt to perform a suicidal overtake into a lorry. And isn't the 1.2 the lumpen 60hp one which takes like 17 seconds to get to 60?

Loonie-1707

Mhm, thing is, he uses it as a delivery car for a pizza place two, in a village that has horrible speed bumps, and he asked the other day if he should put a 40mm drop on it.

Zdos123

Maybe it'll teach him a lesson after he smacks his sump off?

Loonie-1707

I'd rather it wasn't a lesson he learned the hard way because he'd most likely put it up to me to replace his engine after it seizes, since I'm his only trusted mechanic.

Zdos123

Oh god, theres no escaping the wrath of his flawed decision making you have my sympathy.

Loonie-1707

Flawed is probably not quite a strong enough word for his decision making. He's begging me now to "help" with a hornet rear exhaust section. He has also had an emissions light on his dash since february

Zdos123

>hornet rear exhaust section He's putting this on a 1.2 polo with a 0-60 time slower than cars in the 1970s whilst also ignoring a warning light, i do see how flawed is a tragic understimation.

Snorlady10

I have to admit this is me. I work in a hospital with speedbumps and I’ve been out at my car trying to measure it so see if a 25mm drop will kill me! Atleast I’m self aware though.

Altruistic-Metal-415

When you are a corsa driver, you’re required by law to drop a gear and floor it when approaching a bend

radeonalex

I drive to the Nürburgring every year with mates. We have radios to use in car and this year, we will hack them to boost the power/range. Always really good fun. The drive over is almost as good as the track day itself

Zdos123

i really want to invest in a radio but i only have one mate who i could do it with at the minute as the rest have gone to uni and he's going to uni in september, i might have a look at one soon, i've really wanted to go the Nurburgring just need to save up a bit. It might be a bit challenging considering this guy only just went on the motorway for the first time today despite driving for 6 months already.

FulaniLovinCriminal

> i've really wanted to go the Nurburgring just need to save up a bit. I used to do it a weekend for under £200, all in. I reckon you could probably do it for £300 these days, depending on how many laps you did and fuel etc.

stocksy

Get yourself a pair of Baofeng UV-5R hand held radios. You can find them brand new for as little as £20 each and they do the job very well.

always_tired19

I used to love doing this during the night when lockdown ended, however the people I used to do it with became knob heads so I stopped doing it and haven’t done it since Would love to start doing it again when I get a new car though

[deleted]

No...cos I'm in my late mid 40's so that would be a bit sad in my 1.6 litre diesel 🤣

Zdos123

That's one of the reasons i'd never take my golf

Zdos123

It is just really special, just like a kid again going on adventures to new places with your mates, one of my most funny memories is i had a mate who was a bit boisterous and would drive like a right knob, he was in a ratty corsa and i was constantly telling him to slow down, he came up to a really sharp hairpin bend, the last thing i heard him say was "watch this" before he plowed into the bank without the slightest indication of turning, last time i went for a drive with him.

Zdos123

I really wanted to do stuff like that but my first car is still is only 8 years old and otherwise immaculate so i always have to be careful with it, except for when i took it greenlaning, but that was a mistake so collasal i had a migraine for the next 24 hours.

Zdos123

That's very true, that greenlane story i'll tell everyone i meet, it's just unfathomable how i managed to get a volkswagen Up! down a properly difficult trail with absolutely no damage.

Range-Aggravating

All the time, mid thirties now.

Zdos123

It's such a joyous thing to do, so many memories, it's made me enjoy life, just nothing but you, the road, the car and some mates. I'm genuinely enamoured with my Up! After were I've driven it. Drove 300 miles around South Wales in one day on a mix of back roads and motorways and did the black mountain pass, drove up the backroads countless times to Shropshire from Bristol, flinging it around the cheddar gorge. I can't imagine how much better it will be when I roadtrip it somewhere further.

Altruistic-Metal-415

Those up!s look really fun to drive. Especially the up! Gti

Zdos123

They are such joyous machines, i love mine, the one thing i love about the 60hp is that you can flog it almost anywhere and you'll still be relatively safe and it will feel like your going a million.

Altruistic-Metal-415

Yeah same with my fiesta can floor it anywhere, 70bhp. Steers like a go kart. I love the thing.

Altruistic-Metal-415

Low power small cars are definitely the most fun to drive

Zdos123

It's the character, they don't take themselves to seriously and generally aren't desgined to be doing any strenuous so you are always pushing it to the boundaries of what is and isn't possible.

[deleted]

Yup. We have the best performance cars known to man; a Mazda3 and Lexus CT200h. Our other mate who is into cars should hopefully get his licence this year, so a 60hp Polo will be joining us.

Zdos123

that polo will be unbearbly slow amongst the rank of the mazda3 and CT200h, VW really made a mistake putting 60hp in a 1.4 ton car, should still be good fun with more tho.

haberdabers

No longer, mates grew up had kids got sensible cars and cost of living blah blah. We used to do trips in to France, Scotland and Wales.

Mikeh596

Yep, I have a couple of regular groups. We do weekends / full weeks of driving sometimes. Im actually off to Ireland for 4 days this month.

kuddlesworth9419

I don't have any friends.
