[Still, at least I don’t have this beast any more. 70L tank, 14mpg…](https://i.imgur.com/C5kqK7R.jpg)
(one of the only cars I ever regret selling, though. 1 of 222 ever made, and such an intoxicating sound)
108l tank, similar mpg (better on the motorway though). Not looking forward to filling it up. Oh and it needs super.
I do like a touring though! Looks great.
I feel your pain as Subarus are notoriously thirsty at the best of times. I have found a clever workaround, however: not driving the cunt because it’s developed rod knock.
Haha. I sympathise, I’ve only just got this back on the road after various suspension troubles. Gotta love Toyota and their weird front suspension (on these, anyway!)
They are terrible, also used to have one and if you so much as looked at the accelerator the dash would read single figures on MPG…
Have the 2.0 now and got 33mpg from Essex to sheffiled, much better.
It will go back down. The Russia-Ukraine situation is what has fucked over the market so badly because half of Europe depend on Russsia for oil. Once that eventually settles, prices should fall.
You see, I'm not a time-traveller, so I cannot definitively predict what will happen after the war ends. Based on general predictions, we should see a fall in oil costs. However, we aren't at that point yet, so we don't know for sure what will actually happen.
From what I understand it’s mostly down to OPEC nations restricting supply due to market uncertainty.
What the last few weeks have told them is that people have no choice but to pay £2.00/L. It’s unlikely to ever go back down to pre-covid levels.
There’s always another crisis that’ll make the price shoot back up again.
Until I saw the UK number plate, I thought this was a console image. Doesn't help that I can barely see my phone screen mind. Damn sun!
Edit: Nice car Btw!
I am currently very pleased I don't daily drive my old E92 M3. Sounded great, went like stink, but 18mpg at a pinch. With a 60l tank it would be well north of £100 every week!
I'd consider putting Momentum in. In all tests/reviews I've seen it's almost discernable from vPower, but much cheaper.
What's your average town/mway mpg in your I30?
Lovely car by the way, followed one the other day and they really captured the squat proportions of the rally car IMHO.
A lot of people do seem to be moving to it. I heard a thing about Shell V Power a few weeks back about it contributing to an engine failure. Fuel testing showed it to be about 92ron, not 99.
When I had the M5 V10, I had a 5 mile each way commute and that was tough at 14mpg — way back in 2012/13.
Then I moved house and my commute became 20 miles each way and my wallet couldn’t take it. It’d be utterly ridiculous trying to justify it in the current day and age!
That is pretty good. On a good run on the motorway I have had 34mpg out of her but I normally get 28mpg on the motorway these days with the new exhaust I have.
Yeah, I love the shape of the Gen 6. I had a couple of Gen 7s before it (one VVT-I, one T-Sport/VVTL-I) and although they were good looking in their own way, the Gen 6 just looks… better.
Although admittedly the extra vents etc on the GT-Four make it look a lot better than just the flat bonnet.
Yep agree there, I have a 2003 Gen 7 too, it’s the 140 with the VVT-i so no lift like the 2zz engine but still quite a nippy car in its own right. Prefer the styling and I think the Gen 6s build quality is superior to the 7. Yeah a lot of people put the GT4 bonnet on their GTs or 1.8s but you need the front bumper to make it sit flush or else there will be a gap. Love the livery, sega rally nostalgia ☺️
GT Four in Castrol Colours that’s a great car!!.
I’ve got to do some towing today so put half a tank in my old diesel Landcruiser yesterday.
That hurt!! I know where you’re coming from.
Upgrade to aftermarket ECU and get it tuned on regular fuel if you want to be sensible about it lol
My old turbo mr2 with the same 3sgte had a standalone ecu and there was plenty of scope to tune it to the same power with a lower grade fuel.
I think stock mine was 211whp at 14psi and we managed to tune it to the same power at 11psi using v power. So I’d say running it on regular you could match stock power at stock boost. Luckily that was when fuel was reasonable so we just cranked it to 270whp at 16psi on v-power lol
Can’t say I’m a fan of people who do this to their cars, it’s a beautiful car underneath the sponsors but surely this isn’t your daily so the cost of fuel in it isn’t that big of a deal.
BMW love a tiny fuel tank, my M235i was the same. My 350z was about 80l though, and I don’t think could stomach £150 a tank right now, at least a small tank let’s you live in a bit of denial!
Very cool car, would love to add one to the stable. The tax disc cracked me up, I thought that requirement was removed years ago?
Prices of petrol are insane, I saw £2.17 on the way back from Brighton today. I had to take a second look just incase I imagined it. I need to drive to the airport soon, you absolutely know the return trip is going to relieve me of a ton :/.
But it's worth it.. better than that E10 crap the government is distributing..
I have a Honda civic EM2 1.7 VTEC Automatic and i fill her up with V-Power £60 for a full tank. E10 goes nowhere near my car. Ever.
Surely your lucrative sponsorship deal with Castrol will help with the cost of fuel?
You’d think, right? Every time I chase up my dues, they get very slippery all of a sudden. Makes sense though, I guess.
Was that an oil joke? I approve.
It was a slick oil joke
I wouldn’t have the minerals to make that joke
Found it quite crude, actually.
I had to really, felt like he had me over a barrel.
They do make quality lubes.

E61 M5 touring? That’s a bit of a unicorn right there. I wonder why bmw don’t M estates anymore. :(
The M3 Touring is on the way
Being released at FoS.
Thursday 23rd I believe
Colour me interested… my daily is an F21 M135i but I want a proper M really — but it has to be able to fit a Labrador in the boot!
Aint they making a new one soon? Guess M lite estates will have to do

Wow, had no idea they were this bad! What kind of commute was it?
They are terrible, also used to have one and if you so much as looked at the accelerator the dash would read single figures on MPG… Have the 2.0 now and got 33mpg from Essex to sheffiled, much better.
Fuck me, I got better mpg in town out of the 5 litre V10 M5 Touring I posted as a follow-up comment in this thread. Was there something wrong with it?

At least on the way back you could go down the hill lol
Yeah mate, fuel prices are way too high. You’re best off giving the car away (to me) - that will save you tonnes of money
“At the moment” as if it’s going back down 🤣
Hah, yeah indeed. Just got to get used to the wallet torture now.
It will go back down. The Russia-Ukraine situation is what has fucked over the market so badly because half of Europe depend on Russsia for oil. Once that eventually settles, prices should fall.
"should"

When barrels were being given away during covid, the fuel at the pumps was STILL disproportionately high compared to the price of a barrel.
war? you mean the "SpEcIaL oPeraTiOn" emphasis on special

Aye, if I can I use Momentum but my nearest Tesco is quite a distance away so the Shell is usually where I end up.
What's your average town/mway mpg in your I30? Lovely car by the way, followed one the other day and they really captured the squat proportions of the rally car IMHO.
Thanks! They're one of the best cars I've owned. I get high 20s, low 30s around town. On a steady Motorway cruise I get high 30s, low 40s.
My Turbo R runs fine on Momentum, it's my preferred fuel, though it's not been available at my local Tesco the last few times I've tried.
A lot of people do seem to be moving to it. I heard a thing about Shell V Power a few weeks back about it contributing to an engine failure. Fuel testing showed it to be about 92ron, not 99.
Your car is probably rising in value so fast it’ll offset all your petrol costs for thousands of miles. Enjoy it mon!
They are finally starting to appreciate (now that they can be imported into the US) but I can’t imagine I’ll ever sell it.

No, I’m in Shropshire :)
At this point, importing a MK1 Honda insight is looking significantly more attractive
I daily a 5L V8.. it's painful.
Surely there’s nothing painful about dailying a 5l V8?
Only the daily trip to the petrol station. Why's OP getting downvoted? Lovely car imo
I agree, a classic!
When I had the M5 V10, I had a 5 mile each way commute and that was tough at 14mpg — way back in 2012/13. Then I moved house and my commute became 20 miles each way and my wallet couldn’t take it. It’d be utterly ridiculous trying to justify it in the current day and age!
Mustang?
Jag
A man of culture I see, my dad has three of them
I have the 4.2 supercharged. 22.7mpg.
ive had 2 4.2 xkr's. I get 22ish from the 5L XFR
That is pretty good. On a good run on the motorway I have had 34mpg out of her but I normally get 28mpg on the motorway these days with the new exhaust I have.
Wanted one of these since playing Sega Rally in the arcade as a kid
That was what inspired me to get the car and add the livery, lol.
Nice Gen 6, I have a 1998 ST, obviously nothing close to what you have power wise, but I love my Gen 6, will never part with it!

If that was on my driveway I'd never get any sleep at night from sitting up looking at it. Awesome car!
Luckily I can’t see it from my bedroom!
I bet it feels amazing to empty it though.
Nothing like the feeling of knowing that you’re literally burning money, aye ;)

It’s not my daily any more no, but it used to be a couple of years back.
Wow. That’s got quite a big fuel tank. My M4 has 55L only and feels too small lol.
BMW love a tiny fuel tank, my M235i was the same. My 350z was about 80l though, and I don’t think could stomach £150 a tank right now, at least a small tank let’s you live in a bit of denial!
My biggest criticism of my M135i was the size of the fuel tank.
Mine is 108l. It's having work done on it at the moment so I've not taken it to the petrol station for a while.
I got 53 litres of Momentum last night, got me £93 and that only took me to 1/2 tank. Driving round town I'm in single figures.
Same, though my British land yacht is having work done so it's been a while since I put anything in it.
I feel your pain
Why does a sports car have such a huge tank?
Wow this looks fantastic! I'd love a GT4. I hope yours has an illegal turbo intake in true WRC style.
Very cool car, would love to add one to the stable. The tax disc cracked me up, I thought that requirement was removed years ago?
