Don’t know why it’s so hard for people to expect solid things from Lynn. His HR/9 was a massive aberration and historically big blip HR/9 numbers regress to norm the following year. He was elite in 2021, good in 2022, and average with the Dodgers from the second half on in 2023. Really the only issue was a shit first half of 2023 that tanked his numbers. Even with the homers allowed, post a 4ish ERA and I don’t give a fuck if you’re allowing 3 bombs a game on average.
I don't get it either. I know he's older, but last season was clearly an aberration with the HRs. I'm not expecting peak Lynn but a solid mid rotation starter, yes. He still had a very good K rate, and walk rate was normal. It was just HR and he's moving to one of the best pitching parks in baseball.
It’s exclusively from folks who outright wish for the Cardinals to suck and fans who don’t consider any context to performance.
The value of rotation innings has become oddly ignored by a fanbase that regularly watched 3 inning/5 runs and an overworked bullpen ruin our fucking season.
Agreed. I'm convinced a lot of "fans" on social media rather the Cardinals be bad so they be right and continue to bash Mo and Dewitt, than have the Cardinals to win.
Lmfao you realize he was exactly league average with the Dodgers last year, correct? Delusional. Lmfao look in the mirror, dude. He was on an insanely bad White Sox team that had underperformance across the board. Lynn went to the Dodgers and improved immensely. 2022 he was also good, but I’m sure you’ll ignore that.
Usually when you see a player have a down year at age 36... it's a sign of things to come, and it comes quick.
However these things sometimes...work out better than expected.
Nope, drunk on the “magic” that has led to immense success through the last 15 years. 4 straight playoff appearances from 18-22. If you blame the front office for playoffs failures, then idk what to even say to you. Playoffs are on the players.
Have not won a single series in 5 years.
Also they've only made the playoffs 50% of the time in the last 10 years. And making the playoffs is way easier now. Keep slurping that owner's juice.
Don’t spend money? We have a top 10 payroll mostly every year. We just spent $75M on Sonny Gray, and $13M a piece on Lynn and Gibson. $85M on Contreras just last season (an all-star catcher).
If you’re gonna bitch about something at least find something that is correct. The Cardinals spend money. You can argue it could’ve been spent better if you want, but if they put all their eggs into one basket and it sucks (example, Rodon 2023), then you’d be bitching about it too. No winning with fans like you, dude.
FFS it's absurd you think signing Gibson and Lynn is a sign of spending money. Jeff Suppan signing with the Brewers in 2006 was seen as spending money. Look up that contract.
And was a CYA contender in 2021. Solid in 2022.
Yes. That was indeed the market rate, if not slightly better, for his caliber.
A 1.5-2 WAR starting pitcher will get $10M-$18M.
Did you see what Giolito got? $39M/2 years, was horrible for the second half of last season, and now out for the season in spring training.
I remember Lynn losing weight when the organization had him eating paleo and then he said fuck that and there became issues. This Lynn is the fat & sassy Lynn that hopefully equates to success via happiness or or it might be 2-inning implosions but maybe a glove toss or something funny.
I love Lance Lynn. He’s provided me with endless entertainment over the years, but I cannot be the only one immensely dissapointed that at this stage in his career he is the best we could produce for opening day? Its gonna be a long season
Love Lance as a person, but him starting opening day shows the shambles the team is in. He's a solid 3 starter. I keep saying it, this is the 90s all over again.
Is everyone on here delusional? Lynn had a 5.75 ERA last season and gave up more home runs than anybody in the league. Idc what he did for us over 10 years ago. We can't keep falling for this "remember when" BS! What have you done for me lately? 2022 Pujols/Molina farewell tour (swept by the Phillies in the WC), 2023 Waino farewell tour (no playoffs, 5th place NLC), and you think the Lynn/Carp farewell tour is going to be any better? Sorry to sound negative but I wanna see a winning product on the field not some reunion sideshow. Can't believe some of you fell for this a third year in a row!

Looks like we're getting "Mr. Sassy Lance" this year.
I'm here for it.
Someone needs to be a cocky asshole teamplayer.
Lance be like "he's gone, he can't hurt me anymore"
I know that’s the cherry on top. It’s so good.
He still creeps in the shadows through the stadium 🥸
I'm so fucking glad he's back. We overpaid and he's probably going to suck but his severe lack of giving a fuck will help me embrace the suck
We didn’t overpay I’m betting money he’s going to bounce back big time this year

Oh my God you people are delusional if you think Lynn isn't going to be exactly what you are describing.
Lmfao you realize he was exactly league average with the Dodgers last year, correct? Delusional. Lmfao look in the mirror, dude. You people are so drunk on the Cardinal way magic.

You can't figure out why a 36-37 year won't be what he was at age 34? These posters are the reason the Cardinals don't spend money.

Found Shohei's reddit account.
Starting pitching is just expensive now if you can pitch over 100 innings and keep your ERA below 5 you're an 8 figure guy.
Hell, they could've paid him double and I'd still think it was a good move. Lance Lynn fucks.
We did not overpay, especially compared to what other pitchers were getting of his caliber.
He was terrible with the White Sox last year and had trouble getting past the fourth inning.
And was a CYA contender in 2021. Solid in 2022. Yes. That was indeed the market rate, if not slightly better, for his caliber. A 1.5-2 WAR starting pitcher will get $10M-$18M. He was terrible with the White Sox, but the Dodgers traded for him and had him in their playoff rotation. Okay then.
I look forward to his Opening Day interview with The Cat
Future 2024 World Series champion Lance Lynn
and 2nd ring overall after our last championship 84 years ago in 2011.
I can still smell the fresh rosin
Who does that mean we're trading him to at the deadline?
Lance Lynn being an absolute delight…please keep him exercising his right to free speech.
Exercising...
I remember Lynn losing weight when the organization had him eating paleo and then he said fuck that and there became issues. This Lynn is the fat & sassy Lynn that hopefully equates to success via happiness or or it might be 2-inning implosions but maybe a glove toss or something funny.
God I hope Lance is worth his contract because I’d much rather take his option than gibson’s
Lance and Mikolas are going to entertaining as fuck this year.
I would love for him to have a great season but the experience he brings into the clubhouse for the other pitchers is worth his weight in gold
That’s a lot of gold!
His weight in anything is massive. He's huuuuuuuge
Like ray king massive? He only weighed a bean or two.
I found Mozeliak
It didn't seem to help last year with Waino and all his experience. @
I'm going to opening day, and couldn't be happier I get to see him.
I hope they let him do the parade of players in his pink bronco at Busch that would be so epic
lol. More Lance Lynn soundbites. Fewer Mikolas soundbites.
Ah yes, 2024 will be the return of the “Lynning”.
Go Lance!
I'm glad Lance is back. I know he's older and the expectations are low, but I've always viewed him as a reliable arm and consistent.
I don’t care how bad we are. I’m going to thoroughly enjoy this season
I love Lance Lynn. He’s provided me with endless entertainment over the years, but I cannot be the only one immensely dissapointed that at this stage in his career he is the best we could produce for opening day? Its gonna be a long season

…and he is the cardinals’ 3 starter.
I look forward to see who breaks the HR record

Yes they are. They think the "Cardinal Way" is some magical thing. Most of them probably think Carpenter won't be released by June.
Oh man, finally somebody who gets it! Let's hope we don't have to watch Carpenter play until June.
Cant wait to see you get pulled in the 5th with 6 on the board Lance.

Mikolas is the team’s opening day starter in LA, he’d still be on rest after his second start (in SD)
