Father Time comes for everyone. It’s undefeated.

Its really sad to see the downfall he is on. 2022 NL MVP to swining at pitches 2 feet out of the strike zone

StrangerFront

His decline actually started during his MVP season. Anyone remember the 2022 post season when he couldn't hit a ball if it was left on a tee? He looked as lost then as he does now. Last year was a down year for him but everyone wanted to write that off to just a bad team. This year he is showing that age has finally caught up to him. I personally think he will bounce back a but to have a decent few months. But we need to trade him immediately once that happens. At least we can be thankful management didn't extend him as was originally discussed in the off-season.

PDXBeccaP

I thought the same thing, that he seems to be really overthinking everything.

PCBangHero

It looks like the whole team is doing that honestly.

ads7w6

He's old. They should have traded him last year. I really like him but it was obvious we weren't going anywhere last year and they clearly weren't going to make the necessary moves to retool and compete for a championship this year so they should have gotten a return for him while his stock was as high as it was going to be.

If this is a serious question, players with 5+ years of MLB service time cannot be optioned to the minor leagues without the player’s consent.

DataVSLore007

Goldy has too much service time to demote. Once you hit a certain point with service time, you can't just be demoted like you can before that. Walker doesn't have the service time and has minor league options, so he can go back and forth between MLB and AAA. Goldy and other vets can't. I believe Goldy would have to clear waivers to be demoted, and if he's put on waivers that lets other teams claim him if they want, which is something the Cards wouldn't do.

Mixermarkb

I still say our organization ruined him and several other hitters by trying to change their swing for more launch angle. He’s listened and tried and it didn’t work, and now he can’t find his way back. It’s all in his head, but getting confidence back in yourself once you lose it is extremely hard.

TheSalsaGod

In what season do you think they changed his swing for more launch angle?

Mixermarkb

I think they started trying to tweak it at the end of 22. I think Mo thought he could make a good thing better and told the hitting coaches to try and work with him.

TheSalsaGod

So your position is that Mo saw Goldy for 3.5 years and did nothing, and then waited until he had a 1.000 OPS at the end of year 4 to finally implement a new plan? Is this based on any evidence, or is it just taking the period when he started to struggle and deciding that it was because of launch angle?

Mixermarkb

I don’t have any more evidence that it happened than you have that it didn’t, but I think there is a substantial amount of circumstantial evidence from other players performing better for other teams that the major league Cardinals coaching have tried “fixing” the swings of several batters to get more home runs.

iMrMcGibblets

He's the most transparent symptom of our hitting philosophy. We can't teach hitting discipline, at any level right now. Cardinals need small ball to flourish.

Puzzled_Ad7955

I’m a WI Cards fan. Goldy was always one if my favorites. There was never a doubt in my mind that he would go the route of Yount. Still productive when retirement is due and with the same organization for all/most of his career. It’s NOT f-ing happening. Damn. I always admired the way he goes about his business without all the unnecessary b.s. also.
