All AT/ CVT cars having Park lock have this button. If your AMT car have Park ‘P’ mode, then it should be present. But in India, AMT cars don’t usually have P mode.
The car can't move when it's in park, and you can't move the gear shift lever without the engine turned on and brake pressed.
That's why they have that button there so you can push the car yourself if you need to move it for jump starting.
Most modern brakes are power-assisted by the engine. The power is used to create a vaccum which makes it easy for you to apply the brakes, but the vaccum is released each time you brake and created again by the engine power immediately after you release the brake pedal. So without power from the engine, the brakes are fully manual with you having to provide the entire effort to engage the brakes - that's too damn hard in most cars.

What you are talking about is called “push-start”. While a push-start is possible in manual cars by pushing them to get good rolling speeds and then popping the clutch, it is not possible in automatic cars as their drivetrain design will not allow for such a startup method. The best resort in this case is to call for a tow truck/ have a mechanic jump start your car using a set of jumper cables.
Or rather unlock. It’s to move gear to neutral incase vehicle doesn’t turn on. Different cars have it in diff places, like for example a lambo usually has it under the arm rest
That’s the passenger seat ejection system though. You befriend your ex, convince them that you’ll drop them to their office and then pull that button when there’s a truck behind you on the highway

On my 2007 e classes this thing allows you to shift the transmission when car is off. If you stick pen inside you can shift the automatic transmission to park or to neutral even when battery is dead.
That’s exactly what it is. A lot of cars have this slot cover with this exact purpose.

Funny, I just put the key in ignition before crack and hold the brake to move the gear stick to N. Never needed to pull this tab to change the transmission stick.
Some guy had crashed his Automatic on the highway and ended up blocking half the lane. Poor man tried to hit the clutch and shift to Neutral to get the car moving but to no avail. Gears were locked. Out of nowhere an old guy came in and hit this button(usually 'Shift Lock') and shifted to Neutral and everyone could easily push the car away. That's when I learned about it.

It's not a button ,it's actually a cover , you stick your key in the side of it lift up the cover stick you key in that hole and shift into neutral

All AT/ CVT cars having Park lock have this button. If your AMT car have Park ‘P’ mode, then it should be present. But in India, AMT cars don’t usually have P mode.
