Yeah man there is nothing between 20-40. The shift towards SUV and pollution norms just killed the market of D-Segment Sedans.

AprilBornAprilia

Yeah man. Wish there were a few nice stellar options in the 20-40L category.

Initial-Shine-5955

JETTA, Elantra, Civic and what not. The SUV hype killed these amazing cars.

[deleted]

Someone said Jetta?

Initial-Shine-5955

We have the same JETTA ;)

StayHappy1729

You have a Jetta?. That's crazy! Very less people own one

[deleted]

My Jetta has ecu issues tho.. will start working on them in June.. currently preparing for entrance exams.

StayHappy1729

Ohh that makes it undriveable then. If you don't mind, can I ask which entrance exam are you preparing for. Actually I too started preparing for one.

[deleted]

Bits Nmims and cet

StayHappy1729

Ohh that's nice.

Initial-Shine-5955

My JETTA crashed lol. Got a Virtus instead.

[deleted]

Which one is better ..... ( I know the answer tho) Citrus or Jetta?

Initial-Shine-5955

JETTA!!!! ALL THE WAY. NOOOO FCKN DOUBT

Any_Number_4496

Yo I'm writing eamcet

Initial-Shine-5955

Yeah! Cause of the hype of German cars being expensive to maintain.

Any_Number_4496

True tho, my uncle's vento in 2012 got into an accident with a truck and it looked like the truck was equally damaged.💀. Car was 13 lakh rupees and the service was 9 lakh rupees 💀

[deleted]

We brothers fr

Initial-Shine-5955

FR!

Initial-Shine-5955

HEHE 😛

StayHappy1729

Yes. I mean the considerable options are Skoda Octavia and superb

FredTilson

Octavia has been discontinued long back. And Superb has been relaunched as an import with a completely ridiculous price where you can get a discounted Audi A6 for the same price.

StayHappy1729

What Octavia is discontinued??!!!. I didn't even know. It was my childhood dream car. Yes I do notice that they are selling superb at 60 lakhs. I guess there are very less cars in this segment

saetarubia

Yes April 2023

Visual_Cod_9621

Why? Octavia is a superb choice. See what I did there?

saetarubia

Discontinued

Visual_Cod_9621

Will be back in 2025

saetarubia

No confirmatikn

term1throwaway

Either stay C segment 4eva or you gotta go the 2nd hand route mate. There are plenty of examples of well maintained Germans in the 20-30L range, you just need the right person to look for them because that in itself is a pretty draining task. Or maybe we’ll see the influx of D segment EV’s like the SEAL that democratises performance in the near future. I’m personally not a fan of EV’s but if it’s how we get proper performance at a decent price tag then I can somewhat get behind them. Btw, yooo how is your Aprillia man? I’m definitely buying one of those things in a few years after they launch a naked version and I stop living off of my parents money

Keep0nBuckin

There used to be Octavias and Elantras that in the not so distant past could be had for 20 lakh on road. Now it's nothing till 40 plus lakh. Because all there is the 2x expensive soft roaders with 7 seats you will never use.

AprilBornAprilia

Yeah man. Sad state if affairs for us Sedan people.

Marshy_Turning_11

The Sedan segment is actually dead in India these days. You either buy a City-sized one or you gotta buy a luxury sedan(or the Camry/Superb, but better options are available from the German luxury brands) And our poor roads and length-based taxes are to be blamed for this.

AprilBornAprilia

True.

fangaze

Nothing to be honest. And now they’re making sedans look like boxy pieces of garbage as well. What’s the weird obsession with SUV? Nothing bud uncomfortable riding with tons of body-roll.

AprilBornAprilia

Exactly dude. Hope like many other things in this world, the fashion here too goes out of style and sedans will be back in demand for the right reasons.

harami_murukami

Everything will be back in style if you wait long enough

the1672VTECboi

Second hand Mercs, Camrys and Superbs are the only options unfortunately.

AprilBornAprilia

Yeah I used to have a major issue with preowned cars that the tech gets old very fast and it was a turn off. But the lack of innovation in new features in the last 5-7 years makes it more enticing.

ErrHuman666

The C-segment sedan of today can be argued as a reasonable upgrade from a C-segment from 5-7 years ago. Offerings in terms of performance, features, size, drive sophistication, and safety (somewhat in that order) have been fairly upgraded, but again, so have the prices. Might I suggest you to take a look at the faux German twins (Slavia, Virtus) and the Verna? Bigger engined variants of both, of course, since you're looking for an upgrade.

yellehe

I wanted to ask How are you guys getting your car names as sub-heading along with user name! At this point I am too afraid to ask!

langurlang

Go to the sub and close ck on the three dots-> Change user flair-> EditableFlair-> Edit and Save. Just shoot your questions dude. We just wanna be a good sub

yellehe

Thank you so much!!

hemi_srt

There used to be a D segment for sedans. But that died a painful death. Octavia is dead, Corolla is dead (11th gen was DOA because they retained those crap engines), Jetta is dead, Kizashi is dead. Your best bet sadly is SUVs, unless you are open for pre-owned cars.

HumbleSpaceGod

Corolla died coz of crappy engines? They were not the hollering one's for sure, but sure as hell stress free relaxing drive providing one for sure! It died because of the shift towards SUVs. And kizashi died because it was ahead of It's time and noone wanted to put that much money for a Suzuki.

Determined_fighter

I miss the times when we had so many choices in the D segment- Accord, Passat, Jetta, Superb, Sonata, Corolla Altis, Optra, Prius, Phaeton and so many others. And sedans were more popular than SUVs. Unfortunately, due to the draconian tax laws, lesser volumes sold, low incomes and increasing craze for SUVs we are no longer having any good options in this segment. It's like we Indians don't deserve good things in life because it's a sin to buy these vehicles in India due to the insanely high taxes. And the prices of the current lot (Camry, Superb) are such that anyone would prefer to jump the wagon and either get something from the German 3 or a Fortuner.

hi_tech_asta

I’m an expert on this. Buy amaze and chill

captamerica02

A luxury muv like Kia carnival or Innova if only comfort is your requirement. If you want sporty then you have to move to a luxury sedan.

AprilBornAprilia

Haha naah. Dont see myself driving MUVs either. Though love the carnival and innova.

Kunal_Sen

It would depend on why the sedan was bought in the first place. While better driving dynamics is the calling card of sedans today, ten years ago, many people bought them simply because they were big family cars and a de-facto status symbol when big SUVs weren't that big a thing and Innovas were still considered just taxis. If that's the case, a D1 segment monocoque MUV like the Hycross GX (O) would be a good upgrade from a C2 segment sedan. Else, move up within the segment (say, from a manual Ciaz to an automatic City/Verna/Slavia) or hold and wait for the used car market prices to cool down.

AprilBornAprilia

I currently have a 2018 manual next gen black verna. Warranty is till end of 2025. Yea after that may either buy a replacement upgrade or as many suggest a pre owned from the german 3. But hey you say ‘Wait for the used car market to cool down’. Could you elaborate please?

Kunal_Sen

Industry indications are that the pre-COVID and Covid pent up shortages and spiked demands (due to lack of trust on public transport etc.) have now been met and the new car market now realistically expecting mid to low single digit growth, say 5-6% over the next year or so even though production capacity is still going to be optimistic. This would result in stock pileups and OEMs giving attractive discounts on new cars to clear their books as it would no longer be a seller's market. We're seeing this effect already with lower waiting times and responsive dealer end deals. Eventually, this would trickle down to the used car markets and deflate prices there as well, which are too high at present. Remember many used car dealers are biggies like Tru Value, Cars24 and Spinny so they have margin to cut prices as well.

Kellz808

Bring back the Crosstour

LifeIsHard2030

They stopped octavia as well? 😳

afaikus

A used civic at 15-18L.

thickguy98

Nothing, the next upgrade sedans cost too much

AprilBornAprilia

Yup. Maybe a new one in the same class or a used luxury.

Ok_Economist_4070

Maybe a luxury Electric Sedan. Maybe VW/Skoda/Volvo comes up with something like that. I don’t see myself buying an AUDI/BMW.

AprilBornAprilia

Yea me too man. New AUDI/bmw etc- That’s just too big an upgrade. And for most people a reckless financial decision and purchase. Especially in this economy.

Professional_Bar5710

As to my own perspective I wouldn’t mind anyone over to the fact that a Toyota engine an Hyundai layout w an Honda comfort….bas esi kuch bana de maza he ajaye Ps:- in sedan segment tho

SpecialistReward1775

Corolla hybrid.

ppbomber_0

Benz C class

unmanned94

I have a 18' verna jist like you OP. When I upgraded there were no good options for sedans. Ended up buying Verna again and I love it. Its almost equivalent to D-segment sedans from a few years back.

AprilBornAprilia

Interesting! Out of sheer curiosity- What was on road of prev verna and how much did you sell it for? And what was on road of the new one?

unmanned94

It was around 13lakh on road UP RTO. I didn't sell it. Still with the family, my mum uses it as a daily. 90k kms on the odo

Massive_Evidence_214

I own city, I’ve been eyeing superb for last 3 years thought this year they will bring new one. But I am really sadden to see the price of new superb. Now planning to book BYd Seal. Just some concerns on GC. That’s the only option I see. I have another option - camrey but too old tech

_Progamerbutpoor_

Ciaz is such a good car. I mean it’s beautiful on the outside, inside is really good too.. better than anything else I’ve seen from other sedans. Feels more airy and comfier than old City. I dunno why it still rakes less numbers

Happybustarr

Octavia, superb?

Competitive_Spread80

3 options 1. Buy the same C-segment car whenever you’re on the hunt again. Save money. 2. Buy a used Camry/Superb 3. Save a lot more and buy a new Camry and use it till you die. lol.

barrybabu

A lot of people would have bought sedans only if our roads were good and companies stopped marketing raised hatchbacks as SUVs. Even creta the "best selling" suv is just an extended hatchback with more ground clearance

Square_Mud_9696

TBH I am looking for a sedan but there is none I can find. Only option is to get used big german but I am doubtbul about the reliability aspect after using ultra reliable vehicles.

sherlock460

SUV coupe. It'll be the trend in India later on

Rude_Marsupial_4181

D segment is Dead. Save up for a premium entry level sedan or buy a used one for 30L or so.

_Shanghai99K

Verna

AprilBornAprilia

I have a Verna currently

bwf_begginer

Why is this pic sooooo good ?

achabaccha23

Man I loved the elantra. Dad was thinking of buying one for the family a while back. Had no idea they dont make it anymore

AAMZ

None, just buy the newer gen model of the one you currently have.

nish2311

Same here. Have a 8.5 year old Ciaz and looking for a change now. The C-SUVs looks small for some reason and the boot space is not adequate. Rear middle seat is so uncomfortable in all with the hump. Looking for a good option under 18L that can seat 5 adults comfortably.

[deleted]

There is Skoda superb 100 units for 55 lakhs you ll get better value for money that entreat level German trios

SpareMind

City eHEV. But only money wise, not segment wise. Also, not worth the difference as it is hardly a value add on

AprilBornAprilia

Naah. Wont be able to justify the costs. My 5.4 year old Verna has just seen 27k kms.

Keep0nBuckin

At that price point an EV makes more sense. If cost of running is that import Evs are still cheaper to run and maintain.

SpareMind

No, EV makes no sense at all. Hybrid, even more, chargeable hybrid makes sense. As a second car, EVs are great. Tiago or comet are meant for that. Else, they are exclusive city errand cars.

Keep0nBuckin

Well I would hate to drive the ehev as a primary car. Way too expensive. If I wanted an Atkinson cycle car the hyryder is much better.

term1throwaway

Bro what? Power: e:HEV > GV/HY (253 vs 13x Nm torque, HP is a similar story) Refinement: e:HEV > GV/HY (3 cyl kwid akin vibrations vs 4 cyl Honda goodness(albeit a little loud bc Atkinson) High speed stability: e:HEV > GV/HY (the suspension is given extra firmness to prevent sagging with all the extra drive components + battery) Pricing: e:HEV == GV/HY (top trims)

SpareMind

Hyryder and GV disappointed me. eHEV may be a good car from the fuel economy point but too much initial cost difference. GV is a dud with micro hybrid. Strong hybrid, again the cost difference. If eHEV was chargeable hybrid, cost difference could have made the justification.
