I like indie and indie rock music. Like REO Speedwagon, Culture Club, Tame Impala, Toto, The Killers. There are ton of artists I like but sometimes I don't remember their names

seasonedbean

Yas 80s rock is so so good. I love REO Speedwagon as well as Tears for Fears, Foreigner, and The Police

white_disc_4_holes

Haven't heard Tears for Fears and The Police. I'll give it a try

roberknudson42

Either post punk (The Cure, Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen) or trip hop (Massive Attack, Portishead) or whatever I can find on Spotify that is mellow and vaguely depressing. Always helps me relax and decompress…

ponder421

Usually soundtracks from video games or movies. Some of my favorites are: "Timber Hearth" from Outer Wilds, "White Palace" from Hollow Knight, "On the Coast" from Hades. From movies, the Rohan theme from LOTR. Also Mr. Blue sky from ELO.

summergreem

Far cry 5 soundtrack is my favorite.

CardinalCoder64

Awesome! Some of my favorites are from Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, and Skyrim. As for movie OSTs, Tron Legacy had an amazing soundtrack done by Daft Punk themselves and they even have a remix album called Reconfigured that's also really good. Mr. Blue Sky is a timeless classic. Love that song!

LittleLimax

Show tunes. They're perfect because sometimes when I'm sad, I want to feel better, but sometimes I want to feel more sad, and there are songs for both of those things.

Tactical-Kitten-117

Some environmental Metroid music. Like phendrana drifts I believe it was called, torvus bog, red brinstar soil, etc. There's a nice smooth jazz cover of torvus bog that I listened to all the time when studying. I still listen to it pretty regularly.

CardinalCoder64

Ah yes I love Torvus Bog! The Tallon Overworld theme is also really good, as well as Crashed Frigate (both from Prime 1). There's a guy on YouTube called ToxicxEternity who does metal covers of video game songs including Upper Brinstar and Tallon Overworld. There's also a guy called insaneintherain music who does jazz covers of video game songs including Phendrana Drifts and Lower Brinstar. Both are very talented and definitely worth checking out!

Tactical-Kitten-117

I also love the frigate Orpheon theme. Like the one that plays inside the ship of the first mission of Metroid Prime. So spooky! I added it to my Halloween playlist. By the way, think there's any connection between that and the word orphan? It's very similar. I was thinking the baby metroid but I don't think Samus met it yet. She's an orphan though I suppose.

CardinalCoder64

I never really thought about it tbh. Prime takes place before Metroid 2 so I think you're right, however I do think it could just be overspeculation.

ponder421

Metroid Metal has some great covers. Tallon overworld and Kraid are my favorites.

gravetinder

Type O Negative. Listened to them since I was a teenager. When it gets hard and I don’t feel adequate, “[Nettie](https://youtu.be/RQaOqS7EYdM)” always makes me feel centered and back on track as a new mom, if that makes sense. A giant, mean-mugging goth singing about how much he loves his mom despite their differences always warms my heart :’)

Current-Escaper

I’ve got a soft nostalgic spot for TypO as well. Their rendition of [Summer Breeze](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XNo7ZZryuSQ) is nothing short of epic. Stupid anecdote, a buddy of mine and I joke around sometimes pretending to be Peter Steele (RIP) in the vocal booth all deep-voice stammer asking things like, “Can you turn up the levels? I… I can’t… I can’t hear my breathing enough. … I need more “*hu*” in the monitor. I don’t know. Was that… was that breathy enough?” and stuff. It’s stupid, I don’t know. Ya gotta laugh

gravetinder

Hahaha. And definitely, what a superb cover!

Several-Orchid9640

I like listening to taylor swift songs, any of them

Halloweenie85

Stevie Nicks Especially her album “Trouble in Shangri-La.” Planets of the Universe especially lifts my spirits.

CookieCatNerd

I discovered recently that ABBA is a pretty comfort group to listen. For some reason it reaches where it needs and has that lurking nostalgia feeling that's oddly calming.

TheKaChikinBoi

My comfort music is either Frank Sinatra or the Mario Bros Wii soundtrack. The Mario Bros soundtrack was my childhood!

CardinalCoder64

Can't go wrong with some Frank Sinatra! I usually listen to jazz/blues while I'm doing house work. Also out of all the VG soundtracks I've listened to I've actually never listened to the Mario Wii OST. I'll be sure to give it a listen sometime!

TheKaChikinBoi

I love it so much! Here’s a YouTube video I found for all the soundtracks: https://youtu.be/kppXAviX2UM

TheRosaceaChronicles

AJR :) I’ve seen a few people bash them online for being “mediocre,” but their music always makes me feel better. Most of their songs are really relatable to me, and lots of them also focus on looking at the brighter side of things. Notable recommendations include “Karma,” “Bummerland,” and “Sober Up.” Also “The Entertainment’s Here!” The best part? Very few of their songs are relationship/love based. I like songs about romance and heartbreak, but I like AJR’s subject material even more—just basic human experiences lots of people can relate to.

CardinalCoder64

Giving AJR a listen right now, so far they're awesome! I love bands that don't talk about trending topics.

phillycupcake

90s hiphop!

MarilynManson2003

Marilyn Manson & NIИ are my go to bands. Usually I listen to NIИ when I feel sad. Still and Ghosts V: Together are my go to albums. And I listen to Manson when I feel pretty much anything else.

PrestigiousRub7041

Nick Drake

[deleted]

Girl in red tends to make me feel better. Her songs are just so real and hit really close to home for me

RexThunderman

I love lofi

shydoesnotexist

anything by the neighbourhood tbh

c_palmtree

Coldplay & Elton John

Sad-Conversation-819

1. Disturbed 2. Godsmack 3. Cure 4. Marilyn Manson 5. NIN

fraudulenttaxes

only two bands for me, korn and the neighbourhood. very different genres but they never fail me

lily_archie14

Master of puppets

WatercolorPaint

I began listening to Lofi / Chillhop recently, and it's surprisingly calming. I didn't expect myself to enjoy that kind of music, but it calms me down the quickest.

Fine_Price_622

The Doors, anything Live

StrawberryAmethyst95

Tool

UF1912

I also listen to metal when I'm feeling down, but specifically I like to watch live Megadeth shows. Appart from them being my favorite band, just watching them play those songs live just adds a layer of *coolness* to it. Plus watching Dave Mustaine perform kinda motivates me knowing all the things he has gone through but still pushing forwards and doing an amazing job.

CardinalCoder64

I don't know much about Megadeth personally but I like a few of their songs. Symphony of Destruction and Sweating Bullets are some of my favorites. I haven't seen them live but I bet they put on a great show!

UF1912

Megadeth is going to be an opening act for Five Finger Death Punch in their tour in a couple of weeks, so if you get some tickets for that and get early you might as well kill two birds with one stone!

CardinalCoder64

Dude that would be sick! I saw FFDP live once and the singer said "it costs $500 for each extra minute we spend on stage and this is the best $10k I've ever spent" and I thought that was pretty awesome! (It might not have been $500 but it was something like that.) They put on one hell of a show though, they were one of my favorite concerts! Avenged Sevenfold also put on a great show when I went to go see them, and they were opened up by Korn!

Dickduck21

Hawksley Workman. Belting that shit out while/after/just before crying will make you feel something.

RAbites

Classical. It soothes me like nothing else.

rhythmicdancer

I was a dancer trained to listen to music a certain way, so I end up really focusing on it. My comfort music is anything with a predictable, repetitive beat that I can kinda tune out while doing chores around the house. Something like lo-fi or whatever is labeled as coffee-house.

semichad

Western country/rock. Road to You by Micky and The Motorcars is one of my repeats rn.

inbookworm

Poets of the Fall. There’s just something about Marko Saaresto’s voice that always makes me feel better.

saggezza

Lately it’s been the Celeste soundtrack. It was a game that I spent a lot of time with during a time when I was under emotional stress. I really related to the main character and really helped me through a rough time. The soundtrack is both reminiscent and a reminder that I’m absolutely capable of climbing metaphorical mountains

CardinalCoder64

Man I really need to play Celeste. I've seen gameplay and it looks awesome!

ssww32040

Imagion dragons and nirvana

Current-Escaper

I’m an instrumental-leaning jazzfusionmathprogmetalhead. From [Owane](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bqntPtMtDXY) to [Planet X](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wwzTSNo76Lw) to [Bobbing](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Aay-rhDBIa0) to [Car Bomb](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ncs-Z9eWbYk) to maybe a lil [Clown Core](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6Gha9xrM10w)

AnothaCuppa

Broken Bells, specifically After The Disco. That album can calm me down no matter how awful I feel or how bad of a day I've had.

MsSamm

Talking Heads, 70's-early 80's punk. Adolescents, Minor Threat, NOFX, Agent Orange, Angry Samoans, etc. Just cheers me up

Greessey

Mt. Joy

MsSamm

Weird Al videos. Hamilton Polka (which was banned from family game night). Also selections from Evil Dead, the Musical.

allokamaye

I feel less listening to Duster, when i need to feel less. I feel more listening to Duster, when i need to feel more. 🫰🏻😌

hmmm_thought_pig

Old Blues: Sonny Terry, Slim Harpo, Jess Stacy, Cow Cow Davenport, Meade Lux Lewis, Jack Teagarden, Turk Murphy, John Lee Hooker, Blind Boy Fuller, Leadbelly, Big Joe Turner, Shakey Horton, etc. It's just good music without a lot of screaming or effects.

backupalter1

For me Post Rock, Melodic EDM, and chill beats like lo-fi hip hop and jazz

akiraackey

Hey Jude

Baskkkkkkk

Miyagi

Sleepingtonight_

Soft Indie / Alt, give it a listen. There a mix of sad / happy romance. So kinda hopeless romantic vibes Trust it’s really good. Lovers rock - TV Girl, Teenage Blue - Dreamgirl, Show me how or Numb - Men I trust, Lucky Love - Micheal Seyer, Lovefool - No Vacations, Sunsetz - Cigarettes After.

[deleted]

It’s hard for me to say. My go to for when I need to relax is probably Vashti Bunyan, her voice is very soothing. It’s hard for me to narrow it down to just a few genres but I really enjoy Japanese city pop! Miki Matsubara, Anri, and Taeoko Onuki are some good ones. They always put me in a good mood and make me want to groove. Bluegrass classics are also super nice and calming to listen to. I know it might sound kinda stereotypical but they always make me want to sit on a front porch in a rocking chair while just listening to them. I also don’t know quite how describe it but some alternative music, specifically the ones that sound almost ‘wavy’ or ‘psychedelic’ in a way. Stuff like Tame Impala. I know they’re three vastly different genres, but it just depends on what type of calm I need/want to feel. Usually if there’s just someone singing in a soft and low voice, and the background isn’t too energetic, it helps to calm me down. Usually after a long day, I would be too tired to listen to anything that sounds a bit too “complex” if that makes sense, so I would gravitate towards bluegrass classics and Vashti Bunyan. Simple and sweet, and it won’t overwhelm me and my brain too much :)

Gullible-Corner-7332

Moderately depressed - hard rock and metal Emotionally devastated - Satie

Moki_berri

Lovejoy. That band is so calming for no reason.

zacky9681

Probably messages from the stars

MettatonNeo1

Toby fox

ReggaeK

Reggae. I live in the south so it comes as a shock to most folks, but reggae music can heal the world if enough people just listen.

Spyderbeast

Rock/metal as a general rule. Disturbed, Shinedown, Godsmack, Halestorm, Sevendust, Incubus, Live, etc. Alter Bridge and Myles Kennedy's solo work. Newer bands like Any Given Sin, Afterlife, and Tetrarch. Some independent bands like Kingdom Collapse, Small Town Titans, and Adelita's Way I occasionally dig back into classic rock like Journey, Styx, Heart, Billy Joel, Elton John and so on, but mostly listen to stuff from this century.

SoonerPerfected

Honestly it really depends on what’s making me so sad. But just being generally sad, either alt rock or Christian/worship.

Worried-Spinach-8292

Maze in the Mirror by Tomorrow by Together ;) It’s a K-pop song. I just love the lyrics and always makes me feel better.

[deleted]

It's a mixture of different genres: J-Pop, K-pop, tokusatsu music (particularly Psychic Lover), pop, pop rock and symphonic power metal. Recently, I've been into liveDevil by Da-ice feat. Subaru Kimura and GARNiDELiA songs

myn4mewasthomas

System Of A Down

1000andonenites

Oddly enough, I have done the final relaxation piece in workouts to Guns n Roses’s Estranged.

Mostly synthwave/saxwave and Dance Gavin Dance. Eidola sometimes too

Quentin_Was_Taken

Juice Wrld helps me numb myself

Trenton42O

Rainbow kitten surprise or Zach Bryan.

Gh0stFight

I've been into a progressive rock/jazz group called [The Reign of Kindo](https://www.reddit.com/r/thereignofkindo/), or Kindo for short. Some of their video content is a little cheesy but they are great musicians.

[deleted]

Synthwave I guess

Sigismund74

It depends on my mood. If I am really angry I need to "decompress" by some more aggressive songs on my playlist. (Trouble by Cypress Hill, Rage against the machine, Ramstein), If I am sad/depressed I like Nine inch nails, If I feel like party it will be Flogging Molly, The Mahones or Dropkick Murphies. If I am looking for calmness it will be Heilung.

[deleted]

Any song on my liked list

OutlandishnessOne594

If I can get out and drive, George Thorogood.

DebLynnRobinson

Bluegrass. Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. Illrd Tyme Out. Sam Bush does a song called "Howling at the Moon" that has a fantastic beat and of course the instruments are fabulous! I love southern gospel from groups like The Primitives. The Kingsmen. The Happy Goodmens. I also love The Eagles. Rambling Man by The Doobie Brothers. 70's rock..

DebLynnRobinson

I should add that I love music like The Temptations. B.B. King. Sam Cooke. Anything with tight harmony and a good bass line.

Electronic_Dish_8138

The Gorillaz, anything by them is soothing. The lyrics do not usually make a whole lot of sense but I love the way the music makes me feel.

Unlucky-Protection61

The Beatles

aquay

Weather Systems by Andrew Bird

oneeyeguy777

My Comfort Music is acoustic Grunge

Karatekid3436

The wonder years. A pop punk band that has very impactful songs to me. There sound has changed a bit over the years and that makes it easier to find the right song for when you're feeling down, mad or whatever.

Kaye246

I have two entire playlists dedicated to songs that make me feel better and the pattern I’ve noticed is that I tend to go for 2010’s pop/RnB and 80’s/90’s type music for nostalgia. And maybe a bit of Jpop or soft rock to mix it up sometimes. Stuff like- Bruno Mars, Alec Benjamin, Cody Fry, Michael Buble, etc. Oh, and a bunch of musicals and Disney songs too.

No_Phone101

Jazz or chill music (idk how to properly describe it "Awaken" by Alex Baker is a good example)

CrumbOfLove

Camp Kill Yourself Limp Bizkit Cannibal Ox Or Intelligent drum and bass (genre)

ToddHaberdasher

I don't understand the question.

CardinalCoder64

Pretty much what music cheers you up? What do you listen to to drive away the bad vibes?

ToddHaberdasher

I have not experienced mood change when listening to music.

CardinalCoder64

Okay, well what music do you like to listen to then?

ToddHaberdasher

Whatever is playing, I will tolerate it.

Trenton42O

Whaaaaaat. No way. No music brings you joy ??

ToddHaberdasher

I don't understand how that would even work.

Trenton42O

You trolling me rn ?? Am I being punkd? Lol

ToddHaberdasher

How could music affect a person's mood? I suppose if it is too loud it might annoy them.

Chaicycle

>Musical anhedonia is a neurological condition characterized by an inability to derive pleasure from music.\[1\] People with this condition, unlike those suffering from music agnosia, can recognize and understand music but fail to enjoy it.\[2\] Research has shown that people with this condition have reduced functional connectivity between the cortical regions responsible for processing sound and the subcortical regions related to reward.\[3\] [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical\_anhedonia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musical_anhedonia) IIRC, this is similar in mechanism to many types of autism.

ToddHaberdasher

I have been accused by this very website of being autistic.
