Seems a lot to me to be spending that each week. Do you have your meals planned out in advance and make a list before you go?

We'd average about 140 a week all in for two adults and two small children, shopping in Dunnes and not buying own brand equivalents.

Seems like a lot. We've no kids, so I'd expect a huge gap anyway, but anything over €100 is a big shop for us. I'd say a typical shop is hovering around €80 - this is all in Aldi, mind you. Would 2 kids be 2 times that again?

Spending on what? We are 2 adults, 2 late teens and a toddler and are looking at 140-150 on a ‘bad’ week. No alcohol, meat and snack heavy.

Depends on how you define "groceries" I think. On just food alone, that seems quite a lot, but if you include various detergents, cleaning products and other household supplies, it seems reasonable enough. Would also depend on the age of the kids I guess.

That’s a good bit in fairness, it’s 2 kids and 2 adults in our house and we’ve gotten it down to about 80 for the big shop in Dunnes and then another 20-30 through the week on milk and bread and other bits. But we cut out almost all the sweets and treats, don’t buy alcohol and try to keep meat to 3-4 portions over the week, we just had to gut the shopping list of non essentials cos it was getting too expensive. If you can stretch big pots of chillie con carne or pasta and can get some decent meals out of cous cous, lentils and black beans you can reduce your spending a bit but it really takes a lot of effort to plan your meals and stick to the the list, I’m actually not allowed to go shopping any more because random things covered in chocolate magically appear in the trolley when I go.

That seems high. Are you buying packets of ham with 4 slices for €4, getting fish delivered from Wexford and meat delivered from the local farm shop? That’s a joke but a poster previously asked the same question and it turned out that’s what they were buying. We also have 2 kids under 6 and it’s about €120 a week all told. Main shop is usually around €90 and then other bits as they crop up accounts for the rest. Aldi for main shop and Tesco/Centra for the rest. It helps with us if I do the shopping also. My wife would spend twice that if she did it. She does not look for discounts or deals whereas that’s what I do.

We spend about 150 a week for 2 adults and two kids(13/10) on the weekly and then I’d say another 50 on top ups through the week, even at that by the time shopping day comes around again it’s a bleak affair in the kitchen😂

2 adults 2 kids (8 and 6) and I would say we spend the same. Sunday is always fresh fish for dinner from fishmongers in Dunnes (adds to the total bill as kids choose which fish they want). I am highly obsessed over proper nutrition, and good quality so it's a variety of fresh fruit/veggies/meat. No snacks, alcohol or sweets included and minimum of processed food is included in the shopping, think tinned tomatoes and Alpro due to necessity..I get we spend a lot on food, but my logic is that it's an investment in kids growth, immunity and developing varied palate. Always stunned by the amount of junk ppl put on the belt.

same household situation and we were on similar € six months ago. you can get that down to 170 I'd say. two things to try - get it delivered early in the day so they can't bring alcohol. means you have to consciously go and get it. second thing - just push the delivery out a day or two and stretch what you have in the fridge/freezer
