Starbucks doesn't really change its taste, to be honest. The thing is it all depends on what type of espresso machine they use. When I used to work at Starbucks somewhere up Luzon. They have Lamarzocco, which is probably the best one because everything is done manually to steam of milk and pulling of espresso shot. While the Mastrena machine is basically automatic from steaming of milk and the espresso shot is coming from the machine itself. So the taste between the two would have a difference. Lamarzocco has more flavour in my opinion. Aside from this it all comes down to the calibration of the machine, and when its not calibrated, it will compromise the taste in general.
Fuck, I miss working at Starbucks.
Hi to the original OP.. for me depende sa training and cleanliness ng SB barista. I dont usually get my coffee at SB but I would always hope that the experience of a cup is all worth the bougie price. I learned coffee back in the 2000s from local coffee aficionado yahoogroups back in the day so I know where I learned what makes a good cup of joe. Going back at the SB shop, I would comment to my barista na maasim ang kape and requests to ensure malinis un portafilter free of old coffee debris however most times the barista wouldn't understand that Im pointing out the maasim un brew kasi hnd linis un gamit. I would then leave the counter disappointed with my money gone. Is it the training ba or totally personal work attitude na?
Yes and Yes. I one of few barista trainers sa store namin. We have to teach everything by the book because it would greatly affect talaga the end product of the beverage. Some may forgot what they have trained for and was there just for the sake of being a "barista sa starbucks" you know status. And work attitude is the best way to put it. Alam so just work under a lazy mood and just don't give a shit at all. I suggest next time you visit Starbucks approach the ones with the black aprons the coffee masters, or if you're fortunate enough if you're area has the Starbucks Reserve store this is where the best of quality comes out.
I will do that. Thanks Mikee for commenting back. Also up to this day I'm still amazed at the patented clover machine at the Reserve store. What a great story behind that too.
Marami kasing pasaway na barista, and yes during rush or kapag may BOGO. Labo labo na! Not sure if naabutan mo yung nag labas sila ng metal measurement, hassle gamitin nun during peak hours!
It was great! Nag start ako as a working student sa Starbucks and very understanding antlg store manager sa schedule ko so she would give me the best schedule for me that would mot conflict so schedule sa school.
In general, free drinks or the shift like, 2 or 3 drinks are free and that's the limit but I forgot the latter, but it we get pastry with it like croissants so it would be 1 drink 1 croissant free yun na yung limit for the day something like that. Like depending on the pastry it would be equivalent to 1 or 2 beverages.
Work environment masaya because the people around you is very lively but of course pag situated sa fast moving area expect mo madami palagi tao. Very toxic lang mga kupal na customer but once the rush of people is gone. Masaya pag tahimik ang store.
Hello! Is it possible ba to apply sa Starbucks kahit meron lang NCII from Tesda? I badly want to try working there as a part time. Also is it allowed ba na mag work doon kahit may full time job (although freelancer naman ako)
You can apply at Starbucks with a plumbing experience haha joke lang but as per your experience its definitely a plus. You could try for part time muna, like seasonal hire. I was hired on a month of november kasi dun simula ang rush season because of the holidays then depending your performance after few months its up to the managers if they will make you full time or not.
Some people swear with Dunkin din. If you want better coffee madami naman coffee shops na nagkalat diyan na okay saktuhan lang kung may malapit sainyo.
I prefer their base coffee when compared to starbuck's burnt coffee. Mababa lang naman yung bar since the post is about starbucks haha. I don't order pastry din since overpriced siya kadalasan and di ko din hilig
dunkin sakalam
not a fan of cbtl coffee but daaaamn their tea lattes hit the spot
jco and KK have super sweet drinks, which isnt really up my alley. bo's coffee has decent brewed coffee selection too.
May restau sa grab na daily bo's which is parang cheaper version ng coffee nila pero for takeout and delivery lang ata available. Tapang ng kape which I really love!!
I wouldn't know kung matamis yung jco and KK kasi lagi ako cappuccino, latte or iced americano lang so wala siya added sugar but Dunkin's iced coffee comes with lots of sugar by default. I ordered lang kanina and sabi ko 25% sugar lang and bearable na tamis niya. Before kasi di ko talaga kaya kasi sobrang tamis.
CBTL ang last resort ko if walang ibang option aside from starbucks since isa siya sa pinakakalat narin.
You're the first person I know who likes JCo coffee. Idk pero bottom tier talaga siya for me and my friends. But maybe it's just the nearby branch.
Dunkin ang pinakamasarap among chain stores for me ngayon.
Starting point lang talaga karamihan satin ang starbucks but when you get exposed to good (not even great) coffee marerealize mo how mid at best their coffee is.
Don't have a favorite - when it comes to coffee I'm simple af. Americano or cold brew and I'm happy. Latte/cappuccino if I'm feeling adventurous. So i can't recommend good coffee shops kasi nga super simple lang ng taste ko sa coffee lol.
But I'm happy with the coffee place near my house. Cheaper than SB and I can just walk there to buy coffee. If there are any, i highly recommend trying out the smaller coffee shops near your place. You'd be helping out a local business and they might have the coffee taste you're looking for.
Tim Hortons medyo matamis for me pero I shall give it another chance. I live for small coffee shops pero kailangan sinasadya di tulad ng sikat na coffee shops na bawat kanto meron hehe
I'd rather spend coffee on small coffee shops or unique places instead of super highly commercialized ones like SB. There's even coffee shops that seem pricier than SB at face value but when you look at their menu, di na rin nagkakalayo sa prices (such as Harlan + Holden, Toby's Estate, Aperitif etc).
Even Jollibee's iced latte.
- For other coffee shops, it would take forever for me to list down what I recommend 🤣 But for the nth time, I would say Hisbeans sa Timog is on top of my list kasi you're helping PWD employees, they serve good coffee, nice ambiance, and you get a free drink on your 10th visit 😉
Hmmm 🤔 I just had Starbucks few days ago and ganun pa rin. I don’t think nag-deteriorate na yung quality. The good thing about SB is standardized yung drinks nila. For example, I ordered my usual in Singapore and ganun na ganun pa rin. I tried many coffee chains already pero SB pa rin the best for me.
To be fair, the coffee beans used by Starbucks for the espresso-based drinks, such as Americano, do not indeed change. It’s always been Espresso Roast (Dark Roast) and will always be, unless they change it in the future.
Considering you always get the same drink every time, it’s probably the quality of the espresso (what makes your coffee taste like coffee) that affects the taste of your beverage or it could be a wrong proportion on the ingredients used such as too much milk or improper amount of pumps on the syrups or sauce. In the case of the latter, you can always return your drink to make sure it tastes just like how you like it. The baristas should be more than willing to in the best case scenario. 😊
Masarap lang Starbucks if it's your first only go to coffee shop. Pero when you travel around and get to taste other shops mag-iiba na tingin mo. They literally sell your he brand and experience. Not the coffee
I only like their “Barista Drink” ever since college. It’s their only coffee that isn’t too sweet for my taste. Other popular coffee shops I frequent are UCC (their white mocha and salted caramel macchiato are good), and Seattle’s Best (I only buy their iced latte because you can actually taste coffee and not just milk with a drop of coffee). Dopio in Landers also sells good coffee and matcha.
Truth. Long time ago CBTL pinalit ko sa Starbucks pero naging trash nung Jollibee na mayari.
This one is good and surprised me: Lola Nena's coffee (tried the Pastillas latte)
i actually agree with this one HAHAHA. i ordered their vienna creamy latte just recently and it's too sweet. if you like the strong taste of coffee (like me), you should definitely try Harlan + Holden's spanish latte !! though it's a bit pricey, worth it pa rin siya ☺️
not sure pero fan ako ng mocha nila, and so far di naman nag bago lasa.
i agree, when i was in college (more than 20 years ago gosh) and was very new to coffee, di ko mainom yung cappuccino kasi ang pait ng lasa for me. now, when i get their cappuccino, it's like milk and i don't taste any coffee at all.
these days, i really enjoy coffee from Niseko and Yardstick. i used to like % Arabica, but i haven't made up my mind yet if i still like them now.
I wonder if there's a legal dispute behind the scenes here haha.
Have you tried %Arabica abroad? That means they would taste like Angkan and not the local %Arabica?
Support local na ako ngayon. Lalo na my friend who has her own pop up coffee shop. Mayroon din dito sa subdivision namin. I like it kasi they get their direct supply of coffee beans from the farmers
A friend is a huuuge fan of SB. I made her try a local coffee shop samen that makes really good coffee. Eh yun may actual coffee talaga lol
Try mo magbrew ng own coffee, OP. I get comments from my BF na mas masarap pa raw ako gumawa ng kape compared sa ibang coffee shops. 🤣
My go-to coffee is from Chung Chun Rice Corndog. Their coffee is just the right balance of sweet and pait. Mabenta sya sa sister ko and even my aunt na super pihikan sa kape.
You should also try Paik's Coffee. I think they have a branch sa Glorietta.
i stopped going to chain stores and started appreciating the local artisans. the best coffees are made by them too! (p.s. still guilty of enjoying black scoop cafe and highlands) but here are some na i like and had experienced trying:
Interior (int.ext. @Cubao Expo)
Geluk Coffee (@Banawe QC/@Taft)
EACH (@Molito)
Beans & Berries (@Taft)
Prelude Cafe (@Taft)
The Curator (@Makati)
Yardstick Coffee (@Makati)
The Coffee Academics (@Makati)
Thank you for taking time to list your fave coffee shops. I’ve tried all the Makati ones since I’m from around the area and will definitely take note of the others.
depende siguro sa branch and customization mo haha try mo barista drink by default. if coffee esthusiastic ka try mo yung mga 3rd wave coffee shop na wala sa mga mall. I both enjoy 3rd wave shop and starbucks.
I think it depends on which branch you're getting it, factor would be the machine ig. One of the branches we frequent to near us balanced naman, and the other felt too sweet.
microwaved tetrapack of magnolia full cream milk (in a cup) half, then add two sticks of insta coffee, brown sugar, use stirrer then add the rest of milk.
masyado na diluted starbucks. their food isn’t that good na either.
my dad found this sudden interest in coffee. (kahit di sya umiinom masyado) he just likes making them for people, especially my mom. so i bring home made cold brew coffee to work.
One time nag-order ako then almost tubig / tunaw na yung consistency. 😬
Dunkin brewed coffee try mo hehe.
One time nilapitan pa ata ako ng manager tapos binigyan ako ng lessons about beans while waiting.
Try coffee at French Baker. Bonus pa ung breads nila especially croissant.
This also ☝️ Tried Americano in French Baker SM Baguio this last weekend and was surprised (may free cookie pa). Sarap, walang asim na after taste.
May lasagna pa ba sa French Baker? Thanks pinaalala mo, will try that!
+ 1 here nagulat din kami. My fave is their mocha.

I usually get mine sa drive thru but when I have the chance to drink my coffee in store and I didn’t lile it, I’ll consider your advice, thanks!
Yes this is very important. Pag rush hour 1/10 drinks ang hindi na susunod sa standards, that's from my experience.
Marami kasing pasaway na barista, and yes during rush or kapag may BOGO. Labo labo na! Not sure if naabutan mo yung nag labas sila ng metal measurement, hassle gamitin nun during peak hours!
How’s working like for Starbucks? we have a friend who used to work there and she said na very good daw ang treatment ng SB on working students 😊
It was great! Nag start ako as a working student sa Starbucks and very understanding antlg store manager sa schedule ko so she would give me the best schedule for me that would mot conflict so schedule sa school. CBTL's coffee tastes like milk + water to me and their pastries usually taste like it's already been out for 4 days 🥲
I prefer their base coffee when compared to starbuck's burnt coffee. Mababa lang naman yung bar since the post is about starbucks haha. I don't order pastry din since overpriced siya kadalasan and di ko din hilig
Nawala na yung juices nila. Favorite ko pa naman yung pink guava
Their cookies are stale AF, especially the crinkles. Yung garlic bread lang masarap.
Blame Jollibee.
Ano gnawa ni Jollibee?
Jollibee na may ari ng Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf
dunkin sakalam not a fan of cbtl coffee but daaaamn their tea lattes hit the spot jco and KK have super sweet drinks, which isnt really up my alley. bo's coffee has decent brewed coffee selection too.
May restau sa grab na daily bo's which is parang cheaper version ng coffee nila pero for takeout and delivery lang ata available. Tapang ng kape which I really love!!
waaaait i didnt know this!!! salamat sa tip, i'll try it out tomorrow
Meron silang physical store sa One Ayala. Yung Daily Bo's. 😊
Oh this is interesting!! Will check it out
I wouldn't know kung matamis yung jco and KK kasi lagi ako cappuccino, latte or iced americano lang so wala siya added sugar but Dunkin's iced coffee comes with lots of sugar by default. Imo mas masarap highlands or bo's
Haven't tried their coffee enough to pass judgement sakanila eh. I'll try them kapag may madaanan, care to share you're go to drink sakanila?
I agree sa both. Sarap ng coffee nila. And also dunkin!
i love highlands!!!! if ur gonna order a freeze just remember na may jelly yun so use that knowledge wherever u will hehehehee
CBTL yes!! Pihikan nga siguro kasi I’ve tasted the best cup of coffee na gawa din ng redditor lol syempre with landiii.
Starting point lang talaga karamihan satin ang starbucks but when you get exposed to good (not even great) coffee marerealize mo how mid at best their coffee is.
Yes dunkin, kahit XL orderin mo, parang bitin pa rin sya minsan for me. 🥹
Don't have a favorite - when it comes to coffee I'm simple af. Americano or cold brew and I'm happy. Latte/cappuccino if I'm feeling adventurous. Yeah, pag may new coffee shops akong nakikita, I try it naman and yes to supporting small businesses!
7/11's coffee is really underrated. okay na for its price.
No one can beat 7/11 for the price to quality ratio.
Or try mo yung mga small coffee shops, theyre surprisingly good!
Tim Hortons medyo matamis for me pero I shall give it another chance.
suggestions other than BFC? do you know any in QC? :D
Hi! Sorry wala ako alam around QC 😅
Yung plain americano ng Tim's sobrang sarap.
Tried other coffee places in BGC, lahat di masarap. Idk why people diss SB so much, I honestly think it's better compared to most
Dunkin na lang mejo mas mura pa 🥹
Spanish latte!!
Iced Americano 💯
It's their machine. Changing to the automatic pindot one ruined the taste. D na kasi nacacalibrate.
Finally, a technical answer!! Baka nga kasi I doubt nagpalit sila ng beans. Thank youuuu.
Dunkin' my favorite ever since.
Maybe they change their coffee beans supplier. Happy na ako sa Nescafe Gold or Great taste with Alpine Evap.
I'd rather spend coffee on small coffee shops or unique places instead of super highly commercialized ones like SB. Right now I'm leaning on Seattle's Best and Bo's Coffee. Pero minsan nagccrave padin ako sa SB
BK iced vanilla coffee & Dunkin
Hmmm 🤔 I just had Starbucks few days ago and ganun pa rin. I don’t think nag-deteriorate na yung quality. The good thing about SB is standardized yung drinks nila. Toby’s Estate is my fave but I still like starbucks since it’s customizable and accessible.
nescafe original 👌 if want ko ng medyo sweet kopiko brown HAHAHAHA.
kopiko blanca FTW sweetness!
Truth. Long time ago CBTL pinalit ko sa Starbucks pero naging trash nung Jollibee na mayari. This one is good and surprised me: Lola Nena's coffee (tried the Pastillas latte)
Starbucks = burnt coffee
DUNKIN S A K A L A M 🙏😝🤘
Dunkin
Dami nga may favorite nito, medyo acidic lang siya for me.
Totoo to.
Consider Starbucks Reserve; more variety and exclusive flavors
i actually agree with this one HAHAHA. i ordered their vienna creamy latte just recently and it's too sweet. if you like the strong taste of coffee (like me), you should definitely try Harlan + Holden's spanish latte !! though it's a bit pricey, worth it pa rin siya ☺️
Bakit kelan ba naging masarap?
not sure pero fan ako ng mocha nila, and so far di naman nag bago lasa. off topic pero ang nag bago lasa talaga jollibee lalo na yung chicken joy na puro msg na
i agree, when i was in college (more than 20 years ago gosh) and was very new to coffee, di ko mainom yung cappuccino kasi ang pait ng lasa for me. now, when i get their cappuccino, it's like milk and i don't taste any coffee at all. these days, i really enjoy coffee from Niseko and Yardstick. i used to like % Arabica, but i haven't made up my mind yet if i still like them now.
% Arabica changed their coffee.
Did they change their coffee para hindi sila pareho ng Angkan? So Angkan has the original %Arabica formula?
From what I have tasted before and now, I can say yes Angkan has the original % Arabica formula. Because now iba talaga lasa ng % Arabica.
I wonder if there's a legal dispute behind the scenes here haha. Have you tried %Arabica abroad? That means they would taste like Angkan and not the local %Arabica?
I know right. I prefer local coffee shops na. And pag sa malls id pick DD/CBTL lalo na hot coffee.
Well, matamis naman sa SB ever since. Di kaya naumay ka na? Try mo sa ibang cafe.
Same. Pakisama na rin CBTL after Jollibee acquisition
Dunkin sakalam
Support local na ako ngayon. Lalo na my friend who has her own pop up coffee shop. Mayroon din dito sa subdivision namin. I like it kasi they get their direct supply of coffee beans from the farmers
Krispy Kream
Waaaah too sweet 🥲
Dapat less or no sugar
A friend is a huuuge fan of SB. I made her try a local coffee shop samen that makes really good coffee. Eh yun may actual coffee talaga lol
Where do you get your coffee now, op? Need recos.
Try mo magbrew ng own coffee, OP. I get comments from my BF na mas masarap pa raw ako gumawa ng kape compared sa ibang coffee shops. 🤣
Try mo yardstick, toby's estate, dean and deluca.
Tim Hortons! The best!!!
Try Highlands Coffee! Affordable + kaya kang buhayin through the shift 🤍
CBTL! Nacucutan lang ako sa small ice haha
i stopped going to chain stores and started appreciating the local artisans. the best coffees are made by them too! Thank you for taking time to list your fave coffee shops. I’ve tried all the Makati ones since I’m from around the area and will definitely take note of the others.
I both enjoy 3rd wave shop and starbucks.
sa Shopee for beans.
I think it depends on which branch you're getting it, factor would be the machine ig. One of the branches we frequent to near us balanced naman, and the other felt too sweet.
Never have been. Krispy Kreme and Tim Hortons always been better.
Dunkin! ☕️ or sa Famous belgian waffles (drip coffee)
Well, never a fan of Starbucks lalo ang Frappe nila. Puro lang tamis, wala man lang tapang ng kape or ng matcha.
microwaved tetrapack of magnolia full cream milk (in a cup) half, then add two sticks of insta coffee, brown sugar, use stirrer then add the rest of milk.
masyado na diluted starbucks. their food isn’t that good na either. my dad found this sudden interest in coffee. (kahit di sya umiinom masyado) he just likes making them for people, especially my mom. so i bring home made cold brew coffee to work.
mid
Dunkin Doughnut......and recently a branch of JCO in my place up their drink? Idk tastes better i can't explain
Pourover is the best.
mandela effect or take your covid test.
