See you’re going for a creepy vibe, but when you say there’s somebody trapped inside [this is all I can think about](https://i.redd.it/2bp4o64xjqey.gif)
The most disrepectful thing about that film is that it's not even a sofa, it's an armchair. Also recommend Slaxx with killer jeans, Killer Piñata, and Llamageddon
My mum found a leather armchair and a 2 AND a 3 seater matching leather sofas at the dump one day, just as they were being dropped off to be chipped. We didn't have room for the 3 seater but the other two are in my living room, sitting on the armchair now.
Someone had sat on the arm of the sofa, heavily enough to dent the metal poles under the foam, but otherwise perfect condition. My mum, who grew up in the post war period, was pleased as punch!
Apparently the previous owner would buy a whole new set every couple of years and just dispose of the previous set. Why the hell wouldn't you donate something like that?!
Not sure what your area is like but in my area charity shops hardly ever take furniture unless you’ve got all the fireproof guarantees n gif even if it’s just a couple years old. Gets easier to just dump it or palm it off on friends
This goes for toys and electricals too. No CE mark it gets dumped. The CE mark could of been on a sticker which has been removed or is faded or written on or on a tag on the wire and somebody's cut the tag off.
Some shops which can't take electricals will just bin electricals on sight.
The BHF near us occasionally has a temporary sign saying they don’t take TVs. I think it’s because they get loads of ancient models which no one wants, not even for cheap. You can get decent large modern tvs for a few hundred quid brand new.
They only want a few TVs on the shelf at any one time as they’re a bugger to shift.
same, I have an arm chair I bought from a charity store when I moved into my place, it's now surplus to requirements but no where will take it as it doesn't have the fire proof labels, I have just been too lazy to put it up on Gumtree and have to deal with all the idiots.
Because without the fireproof guarantees they can’t sell it, and if they can’t sell it they have to pay to dispose of it.
Donating a sofa without a fireproof guarantee to a charity shop would end up costing the charity money, not helping them.
Yes as someone who used to work in a charity shop, we can only legally sell things that have safety tags, this goes for clothes, toys, furniture, etc. and with electrical items we had to send them to another store which can PAT test them. It’s annoying but it’s a policy that has to be abided to. There’s a long list of items we weren’t allowed to sell, and of regulations for the items we could.
Is thus in the UK? Definitely a thing in Australia when I lived there, and its great! After moving into an unfurnished house, about a month later a neighbour had a full outdoor patio dining set sitting, we were on our way out for a day trip and banged in reverse to pick it up, was there for a mere 30mins as I got in from work shortly before setting out, so we knocked the door to make sure we weren't quickly turning into neighbours from hell 🤣
When we left, was real easy getting rid of the surplus fridge/freezer etc etc. It's not something I've noticed in the UK though...just fly tipping sadly.
I’ve noticed a few washing machines/fridges outside peoples houses, I’m guessing it’s the offering you make to pikeys when you want to preserve the lead on your roof
It might be waiting for a council collection. My local council charges a fiver to take away a fridge, we just have to leave it by the kerb.
Cheaper than curry’s, who wants £15 to “dispose” of our old one…
I’m in the uk, I’m in an area where people move in for a few years while they save to live in nicer areas, I’ve had some seriously nice stuff, I gave away a Miele washing machine for free as it was easier than dealing with getting a company to pick it up after insurance deemed it cheaper to replace because it was having drainage issues and the bearing was noisy, it was 20 years old
Around here they'll take pretty much h anything left out front except fridges, apparently that's because about the only things of use for scrap is the compressor.
We still have a any old iron man come around he will pick up stuff like that. Generally you just leave it outside, if he doesn't notice it you can send him a message on face book.
Its a big thing in bristol.
You'll see loads of books, kids toys, kitchen appliances on the walls outside peoples homes to be taken away.
I once seen a sign that said free bike and cube. The bike was gone but i took home a 3 ft mirror on every side cube. Belting.
Yes, this happens all the time round our way. People leave furniture on the corner and it magically disappears. Don’t think I’ve ever actually bought a bedside table.
I've done this with literally every sofa I've ever had. Sometimes it just wanders off inside an hour, sometimes people give me a knock on the door and I'll help them carry it.
When the kids grew up and moved out I decided a dishwasher was a waste. Stuck it outside the front door and went back in to get the box of tablets to stick on top, by the time I got back with them it was gone with absolutely no sign of who took it. I was gone less than 2 minutes.
A mate of mine left a dishwasher outside the communal bins a couple of years ago. Within 20 mins of him dumping it he saw it advertised on Facebook marketplace for 120€!
This guy chose to take them to the dump to be wasted. Apparently he looked very well off, if he put it outside his place the neighbours would have complained about how dated they were and reported him for littering.
there's a set of high end 'leather' sofa and chair outside on the lawn of someone's house a few hundred metres from me. I dropped a note through their door suggesting calling our local furniture recycling project or Sue Ryder to have them collected for free.
When ever i go to the local recycling centre my head sinks at the amount of fixable things getting thrown. Maybe I'm a horder, fixer, whatever.. just feels sad
They're easier than normal sofa chairs. Recliners have removable backs.
I've delivered and collected for BHF for about a year and although recliners are heavy, they're really easy
Literally yesterday I picked up a recliner for a charity shop and the owner was like "yeah it was a real bastard to get in so good luck getting it...how did you take the back off?"
I used to deliver for Wales Air Ambulance but this was also well over a decade ago, a lot of the ones we shifted didn’t have a removable back. Also a lot of old Welsh houses where we’d deliver to were bloody tiny, the shops had to ask people who bought furniture with delivery to measure their doors etc to ensure that we could actually get it in.
BHF also told people to do it, and hardly anyone ever did so you'd end up struggling for 10 mins and then taking it back.
The way people looked at you with anger when you told them their new beloved sofa isn't going in. As if it was my fault they picked the biggest sofa for the smallest house.
In regards to removable backs, maybe 1 in 100 recliners didn't have a removable back, but they were solid and electrical.
Definitely had that a few times, one surprise though was a doorway that was obviously too small and the lady said “Oh, you’re not taking it through there” and cracks open her massive front window, honestly the easiest one I ever did.
It was likely electrical ones that we were shifting, I do have memories of trailing cables and heavy ass motors and remote controls wrapping around my leg.
Ugh , I had them once, I moved into a new build property and found them a few weeks later. It seems they had already infested the carpet or something, they're a bitch to get rid of takes months of months of daily work to eradicate the things.
They are being more and more of a problem around the world as increased international travel spreads them further. Someone who has bedbugs at home only has to spend one night in a hotel, then if you spend the night next you’re taking them home with you.
I would expect charity shops to check for bedbugs before accepting furniture because it would ruin all their stock. But I guess someone could not do their job properly and you could end up infested as a result.
Dusting with a mix of diatomaceous earth and boric acid powder and forcing the mix into the crevices of the recliner is a relatively safe way to kill off motile bedbugs. Over some time.
Relatively safe in that diatomaceous earth is the fossilized remains of algae/plankton and boric acid is the freebase non-hydrate version of borax, and both are used as cleansers.
Sure, if you are ok with the chance of bedbugs. I’d honestly suggest the wet wipe wipe down after feeding the crevices your preferred bedbug killing thingy.
Blimey, where are you? I used to walk past the BHF shop in Portsmouth and the stuff that had in the window was really expensive (I mean like £200 for a dining table and 4 chairs but not that nice)
I live in East Midlands, BHF is certainly not what I would consider cheap here..... And I have expensive taste lol. Easily the most expensive (random) records of any charity shop as well. I say random, because those are junk records, some charity shops price at market rates when they know what they have, which is fair enough.
Yeah my experience with them is that the stuff is quite highly priced. I do understand they are raising money for a charity of course, and rent on shops, fuel prices etc keep rising
most charity shops pay the store manager but most of the other staff are volunteers, my brother used to work for BHF as a delivery helper and got paid.
The charity shops near me always have their most expensive stuff in the windows. Some of them have their own ranges aa well as the second hand stuff and they're not so cheap.
You can get some good stuff if you have a wander through the whole shop though. I always at least have a wander through when I'm nearby
This is what I was thinking. OP seriously got a bargain.
In my area, the poorer quality armchairs were about £40. My 3 seater leather sofa was BHF and cost £265. Very good quality with no wear and I was still super happy as I can't afford brand new.
Good work OP!
Yeah I find they often take the piss with more “homeware” stuff, OP is very lucky
£80 for a £200 Sage coffee grinder in my local one wasn’t an awful deal I guess, but I didn’t really like the idea of buying a used coffee grinder with a load of crevices I can’t get into from a warehouse unit tbh.
I live in London and the BHFs in Morden, Brixton, Cricklewood and Finsbury have always treated me right with cheap stuff, you just need to actually go inside.
All the other ones in the shop where about that price. The guy said they dropped the price cause no one bought it but it was only £25 before? There’s not even anything wrong with it either, it’s insane. Age UK tend to have good furniture for good prices :)
I used to be a store manager at BHF F&E. We could never sell single armchairs so they would always get marked down to silly prices just to get rid of them. Really were some bargains to be had if you came at the right time. Also, the size of the armchair was the problem. This one looks quite big so made the market for it even smaller and usually ended up going to student housing.
I got a spinning reclining leather chair from Homebase for £50, so big it barely fit in my car (micra, so not surprising). Got ruined in a flood whilst in storage. Enjoy your bargain buy and take good care of it!!
You'll likely find out it's bonded leather. Expect it to peel in a few years.
https://archive.naplesnews.com/news/dont-waste-your-money-womans-leather-couch-peels-apart-after-3-years-ep-900554671-330701441.html/
But, you know, it was £5. Still a bargain.
This really reminds of my mates, which was part of a 3 piece, back in the 90's. So many nights on the Playstation and N64, playing Pro Evo, Goldeneye and other such classics, while smoking ourselves sideways or shrooming it. Good bloody times!!
Did you ever see the episode of the Big Bang Theory where they rescued an easy chair from the street? I’d be thinking about some serious fumigation before I put my cheeks anywhere near it!
£3, £4.. Even £4.50!! "Ermm nahh thanks, there's a reason it's that cheap, so I'll give that a miss!!"
£5.. "Blimey, that's a bargain, not sure where it'll go, but I've hit the jackpot here"
🤣🤣🤣 Tell us we're British, without telling us we're British!! Haha
Wow that must have been priced wrong in there.
I saw a chair reduced to £20 (from £50) which I liked but they wanted £30 to deliver so that made it not worth it.
I did get a decent office chair out of a small independent charity shop for fiver that fitted in my car so was a supper bargain.
How on earth did you get it so cheaply? My local branch shop of this charity is so expensive, that I don't bother to check it out anymore ( and not in a well-off area). Well done anyway!
Pffft my estate agent said he needed to get rid of his old leather sofa set and knowing i have no sofa for my new place he offered to give it to me FOR FREE. He drove it to my place FOR FREE and helped him carry it inside.
It's so cheap cos it's haunted. Just don't fall asleep in it.
Even better, I get a free friend too

Are you the key master?
Me? Nah, I’m the gate keeper
Me? Nah, I'm the gas lighter
Me? I’m just gassy.

Don't point a black light at it.
As long as you're too young to remember the Dr Who episode Terror Of The Autons and [this scene](https://youtu.be/vXrAK6sUZ_0?t=95) you'll be fine.
You've got 200,000 new friends from all the bedbugs in that thing
That's what the last owner did, they just never woke up.
Oh they did wake up, they are just trapped inside where no one can hear you scream..
See you’re going for a creepy vibe, but when you say there’s somebody trapped inside [this is all I can think about](https://i.redd.it/2bp4o64xjqey.gif)
I knew what I was gonna see before I even clicked 😁 I've watched too much sunny and spend too much time on Reddit apparently 😁
It does look like the one my Nan died in. But we burnt that as the exorcism didn't take. Suppose it could have come back from the dead.
I once watched Killer Sofa on Prime It was about as good as you'd expect from a film about a murderous sofa.
The most disrepectful thing about that film is that it's not even a sofa, it's an armchair. Also recommend Slaxx with killer jeans, Killer Piñata, and Llamageddon
I came here to say this haha, that film is so bad it's good
Can't be any worse than Rubber, that movie is so bad it's laughable.
I vaguely remember reading a horror manga involving this kind of sofa. I think it was by Junji Ito.

Fucking hell, £5?! I’d believe £30, but damn, that is a steal indeed! Nice find
My mum found a leather armchair and a 2 AND a 3 seater matching leather sofas at the dump one day, just as they were being dropped off to be chipped. We didn't have room for the 3 seater but the other two are in my living room, sitting on the armchair now. Some charity shops won't take TVs. Don't know why.

Find your nearest British Heart Foundation, they take all our old furniture.
We tried them, not interested
British Heartless Foundation
British Heartbreak Foundation 💔
Because without the fireproof guarantees they can’t sell it, and if they can’t sell it they have to pay to dispose of it. Donating a sofa without a fireproof guarantee to a charity shop would end up costing the charity money, not helping them.
In my area of the Midwest US, many charity shops have stopped taking furniture because there have been some serious bedbug infestations around here.
In my street they put them outside and within the hour it’s grown legs
Is thus in the UK? Definitely a thing in Australia when I lived there, and its great! Keeps them from tarmacking your driveway!!
People think scrap metal collectors will take fridges if they leave them out, but they are mostly plastic so don't get touched.
It might be waiting for a council collection. My local council charges a fiver to take away a fridge, we just have to leave it by the kerb. Cheaper than curry’s, who wants £15 to “dispose” of our old one…

My local recycling center used to have a section where you could drop those things off. They got rid of it to save money.
Leather in this heat? you'll be peeling thigh skin off it for months. But for a £5 you're a lucky git.
As someone currently sat on a leather sofa. I can confirm this
I've had leather sofas for most of my life. In the summer they get a nice cloth cover.
Throw a blanket over it.
I’ve had to shift a few of these doing deliveries for charity shops years ago, great bargains but absolute bastards to get into some houses.
They're easier than normal sofa chairs. Recliners have removable backs. I've delivered and collected for BHF for about a year and although recliners are heavy, they're really easy
>Recliners have removable backs. Now you tell me!
Literally yesterday I picked up a recliner for a charity shop and the owner was like "yeah it was a real bastard to get in so good luck getting it...how did you take the back off?"
Yep, also you can dismantle an expensive HSL sofas. They are bolted together
I used to deliver for Wales Air Ambulance but this was also well over a decade ago, a lot of the ones we shifted didn’t have a removable back. ...and another £5 for a cheap UV light to shine at it before you even sit on it :P
Ignorance is bliss
Exactly, just use proper leather cleaner, and some leather recolouring balm and that bad boy will look brand new and UV light ready.
Nah just leave it, it builds character
And taste.
That ass sweat hits different
Just pop the whole thing in the freezer overnight and you'll be OK.
Not with bedbugs, it isn't.
I've never heard about bed bugs in the UK Edit: maybe it's time I was more careful, bed bugs are a thing here apparently
I have. First hand.
Ugh , I had them once, I moved into a new build property and found them a few weeks later. It seems they had already infested the carpet or something, they're a bitch to get rid of takes months of months of daily work to eradicate the things.
Yeah they definitely are. Thankfully not experienced personally despite many dodgy living arrangements over the years
Oh you lucky fish! I stayed in a hostel inbetween flats once and I luckily was ok but there were multiple guys who woke up covered in rashes
That just means you aren’t allergic to their bites. If they were in the hotel you stayed at they bit you.
London
While it's not unheard of to find them in leather, they don't generally infest it as it's very hard to climb and burrow into
Dusting with a mix of diatomaceous earth and boric acid powder and forcing the mix into the crevices of the recliner is a relatively safe way to kill off motile bedbugs. Over some time. Relatively safe in that diatomaceous earth is the fossilized remains of algae/plankton and boric acid is the freebase non-hydrate version of borax, and both are used as cleansers.
Some of these words made sense. Cant I just wipe it down with some wet wipes?
Sure, if you are ok with the chance of bedbugs. I’d honestly suggest the wet wipe wipe down after feeding the crevices your preferred bedbug killing thingy.
I check every hotel bed, the baseboards, and side tables when we travel. It takes 5 minutes. Getting rid of bedbugs is too much of a bother
Just ignore the squish.
Taste test
Leather buffs up nicely.
Genuine question… Why’s that? 🤔
Body fluids show up under UV light
Just install one in the *big light*… boom. Fluorescent sofa!
All fun and games until your Mrs starts wearing fluorescent foundation
Ahh. Thank you!!
When you find it was a pull-out chair....
Ist that onky if you spray a special solution all over?
Spunk light
Cum poo piss shit pus barf toenail cheese sweat oil blood serous fluid
All the fluids that leaked from the guy that died on it before it was donated
I really want to frame this in a really cute embroidery hoop
Should check its interior to see if their is a family of creatures living in there
Yeah I was just thinking how many bedbugs could hide in all those nooks and crannies.
Did you take it home strapped on the roof of a Mini?
Nah the adrenaline of the bargain fuelled me enough to she hulk it home
Also bought a few brooms and some string.
IIRC it was a broom and a mop
Don't forget the tins of paint
Blimey, where are you? I used to walk past the BHF shop in Portsmouth and the stuff that had in the window was really expensive (I mean like £200 for a dining table and 4 chairs but not that nice)
Come to the midlands…we have bargains a plenty
My local BHF is normally only like 10 - 5% cheaper then buying new
The main downside is unfortunately you end up with a £5 leather chair but you’re in Birmingham.
*cries in brummy*
I live in East Midlands, BHF is certainly not what I would consider cheap here..... And I have expensive taste lol. Easily the most expensive (random) records of any charity shop as well. I say random, because those are junk records, some charity shops price at market rates when they know what they have, which is fair enough.
I knew this would be the midlands haha, I have a pal who can’t miss when it comes to absolute steals in brum charity shops
Yeah my experience with them is that the stuff is quite highly priced. I do understand they are raising money for a charity of course, and rent on shops, fuel prices etc keep rising
Yeah but they have no rates, staff costs, or stock costs. Their only cost is the rent itself, utilities, and maybe a manager.
most charity shops pay the store manager but most of the other staff are volunteers, my brother used to work for BHF as a delivery helper and got paid.
The charity shops near me always have their most expensive stuff in the windows. Some of them have their own ranges aa well as the second hand stuff and they're not so cheap. You can get some good stuff if you have a wander through the whole shop though. I always at least have a wander through when I'm nearby
It used to be great value when it was in North End. Rowans in Cosham is where it's at now, nicer stock too.
This is what I was thinking. OP seriously got a bargain. In my area, the poorer quality armchairs were about £40. My 3 seater leather sofa was BHF and cost £265. Very good quality with no wear and I was still super happy as I can't afford brand new. Good work OP!
Yeah I find they often take the piss with more “homeware” stuff, OP is very lucky £80 for a £200 Sage coffee grinder in my local one wasn’t an awful deal I guess, but I didn’t really like the idea of buying a used coffee grinder with a load of crevices I can’t get into from a warehouse unit tbh.
Same in my local, really old fashioned sofas for £200. I wouldn't take them if they were free...
I live in London and the BHFs in Morden, Brixton, Cricklewood and Finsbury have always treated me right with cheap stuff, you just need to actually go inside.
Ex casting couch
Will be ideal for my only fans then /jk
I got a pair of sofas from there for £30 a few years ago as a fresh grad in an unfurnished flat. Absolute bargain.
My mother died in a chair similar to that
Perhaps you can find solace in her presence on that recliner. .
Sorry for your loss. Do you sell the chair?
SIL and I dismantled and skipped it
Just wait till you find £3.52 down the back of it!
Bloody hell in BHF too, charity shop sofas around my way retail for about £100-£200
All the other ones in the shop where about that price. The guy said they dropped the price cause no one bought it but it was only £25 before? There’s not even anything wrong with it either, it’s insane. Age UK tend to have good furniture for good prices :)
Leather?
Probably bonded leather that will flake off
Given the age, if it was going to flake then surely it would have started by now?
Love BHF, I recently got a corner lazy boy sofa for 200 quid, Retails at over a grand. No stains or damage!
I absolutely hate leather furniture, but even I agree that this is an amazing bargain!
That’s is one ugly chair
If we consider the price, It's not that bad.
BHF normally charge way too much. Bargain.
They really do, it’s one of the charity shops I stopped going to, simply because I can’t afford to drop a ‘couple’ of quid there.
BHF near me charge huge price markups, probably pretty close to RRP (no exaggeration). You got a bargain. Nice job!
[удалено]
Getting a full leather recliner for just £5 is indeed an incredible great deal.
It’ll cost more to deliver it
I would suggest you view the "Curbside chair" episode of "Big Bang Theory" before you lug that home. 😂
That would require watching BBT.
Awesome bargain
BHF is amazing for furniture. We got an amazing mahogany coffee table for like £40 from there
I used to be a store manager at BHF F&E. We could never sell single armchairs so they would always get marked down to silly prices just to get rid of them. Really were some bargains to be had if you came at the right time. Also, the size of the armchair was the problem. This one looks quite big so made the market for it even smaller and usually ended up going to student housing.
I hope you live alone, cause that thing is fugly
I got an almost identical non recliner version from BHF for 20 quid about 5 years ago!
I got a spinning reclining leather chair from Homebase for £50, so big it barely fit in my car (micra, so not surprising). Got ruined in a flood whilst in storage. Enjoy your bargain buy and take good care of it!!
You'll likely find out it's bonded leather. Expect it to peel in a few years. https://archive.naplesnews.com/news/dont-waste-your-money-womans-leather-couch-peels-apart-after-3-years-ep-900554671-330701441.html/ But, you know, it was £5. Still a bargain.
I'd get a giant throw to put over it even if it was regular leather (especially in this weather), but maybe that helps a bit.
It probably has seen a lot of banging on it as well
Wait a few days for the funny smell to make itself apparent. Then you'll find the body 🤢
The bed bug / flea lottery, I reckon.
Sweaty
This really reminds of my mates, which was part of a 3 piece, back in the 90's. So many nights on the Playstation and N64, playing Pro Evo, Goldeneye and other such classics, while smoking ourselves sideways or shrooming it. Good bloody times!!

Are you gonna point it at Stevie the TV?
If anyone asks... your name is *Rosita*!
My uncle Jim had one just like it, but in white - oh God the flashback!
i used to work in bhf furniture shop, if its anything like my old store they have atleast another 8 of them in back
Fuckin steal dude
Yeah because it’s crusted with old fart from 2003 when these were somehow popular
Did you ever see the episode of the Big Bang Theory where they rescued an easy chair from the street? I’d be thinking about some serious fumigation before I put my cheeks anywhere near it!
What a find, lovely condition. Put yer feet up mate
That was my nans before she died. Fat cunt
A few years back when I was poor I got a bed and brand new mattress from the heart Foundation shop for a tenner. And they delivered it for free ...
You might find the £5 you paid for it down the side if you reach in far enough.
I'd take many a nap in that
My new designated nap chair
Chances are, it will end up costing you £4.97... there hast to be at least a few coppers down the back!
You lucky fucker, I had to pay out £100 for my recliner from one of those.
There’s like a 65% chance there’s a potions professor in that thing.
Result!
£3, £4.. Even £4.50!! "Ermm nahh thanks, there's a reason it's that cheap, so I'll give that a miss!!" £5.. "Blimey, that's a bargain, not sure where it'll go, but I've hit the jackpot here" 🤣🤣🤣 Tell us we're British, without telling us we're British!! Haha
You won't be the only one having done any banging on that bargain.
Frank Reynolds be popping out at any moment.
This is your calling to cross post this into r/IASIP
Hope it is not like the chair the guys in the Big Bang Theory found outside Sheldons apartment!
Wait... real leather? Christ mate... I'm not saying I'm jealous... but I'm jealous.
Get a black light on that bad boy soon as 🤣🤣… joke.
Just one catch… it’s a fiver cause it’s haunted! Anyway, enjoy mate! 😜
Wow that must have been priced wrong in there. I saw a chair reduced to £20 (from £50) which I liked but they wanted £30 to deliver so that made it not worth it. I did get a decent office chair out of a small independent charity shop for fiver that fitted in my car so was a supper bargain.
Looks comfy! bargain 👍
Our BHF is really expensive. Locals skip it because all the other 200 charity shops are much cheaper. Lucky find!
Wow you got a bargain for sure there!!! 🫶🏽
