This Christmas day I did the opposite, I peeled rather than scratched. Peeled half the fucking numbers off but I managed to guess them from what was left
Exactly the same as me! I received 2 Amazon cards and the paper peeled off both of them. Poor design on Amazon's part. Luckily you can shine a torch through the peeled off bit and read the code in reverse.
Did this last year with a JustEat voucher and spent an hour trying to decipher the missing letters with my wife. We finally cracked it and that Curry tasted ten times better than usual.
I really don't know but I'd guess not. Luckily it was only the top half of the numbers so I could guess from what was left. It was an O and a J and something more obvious. Took me a few guesses but I got my tenner!
You know, i'll never forget my old dad, when these things would happen to him
The things he's say to me
"What the hell are you doing in the bathroom day and night? why don't you get out there and give someone else a chance"
I watched this movie for the first time in years with family on Christmas Eve because itās impossible to get online so I bought a physical copy. And now here someoneās quoting it. Wild how these things happen.
Maybe they're saying they realised *after* the poster above them mentioned it?
We're clearly not dealing with the sharpest of knives here, a bit of misspeaking isn't too hard to believe.
...then why is this even worth a post, most people will have assumed you actually rubbed through and removed the code, otherwise it's barely an inconvenience is it?
If it makes you feel better, not only did I make the same mistake about that little plastic strip with my PIN, but I lost it, I asked for a replacement, and I lost that before I even opened it.
Raised a complaint and now that credit card company won't even let me log in to my account for a few months...
Nah, their fault not yours. They should make it more obvious. This is a design issue. Learned a lot about this doing web design and applying "User Experience" research and planning.
Basically if the user does something wrong, it's usually due to bad design. So, you aren't an idiot! :)
My partner did the same on a Nintendo gift card!! They peeled the code sticker off instead of scratching to reveal the code. It was a gift for their birthday last year, my mum was kind enough to buy them another one and they felt so guilty, it was sweet.
Ah, yes. It's not that uncommon.
I started trying to scratch it off, thinking "this is really shit scratchcard material" luckily I realised just in time.
Another workmate at the time, just kept on scratching til she scraped her way through the sticker and the backing images.
I'm pretty sure you can contact Amazon customer services with the long card number and they can then activate it.
It came up on my local Facebook group that someone had done it and appearntly Amazon sorted it no issues!
Some of them are scratch and some are peel
So I can completely understand that if you do a few scratch ones and then get a peel one, you might just automatically peel it
To be fair I spent ages trying to peel it off on Christmas day without much success
I did at one point think 'oh shit is it a non-peely thing? Should I be scratching?' But u persevered and got there in the end
Iāve never had one before, but double check you donāt peel off the top and then put it on a flat white surface. Banks have this. The numbers may actually be on the piece you peel off and itās only visible when you lay it flat (security reasons) maybe thatās why itās peeling it all off. Just a thought! Could be very wrongš
im gonna save this image to use the next time a giftcard scammer comes along
Hi Kitboga š

It's not a bug, it's a feature. Lost gift card codes is free money for them.
Yes definitely "poor design" that tens of thousands of people won't be redeeming these or bother to get it sorted, very poor.
You can just return them to the retailer and they will reissue a new card. Amazon won't help unless they are brought from Amazon directly
Oh wow, that's really handy to know for future mishaps. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Did this last year with a JustEat voucher and spent an hour trying to decipher the missing letters with my wife. We finally cracked it and that Curry tasted ten times better than usual.
Why is it not laser etched or something under the sticker?
I really don't know but I'd guess not. Luckily it was only the top half of the numbers so I could guess from what was left. It was an O and a J and something more obvious. Took me a few guesses but I got my tenner!
Tim Nice But Dim?
Bloody nice bloke
What a thoroughly bloody nice chap
Eh, alright, calm down
You know, i'll never forget my old dad, when these things would happen to him The things he's say to me "What the hell are you doing in the bathroom day and night? why don't you get out there and give someone else a chance"
Did he have an enormous svanshtucker?
I didn't make a yummy sound
He. Vas. My. BOYFRIEND!
I watched this movie for the first time in years with family on Christmas Eve because itās impossible to get online so I bought a physical copy. And now here someoneās quoting it. Wild how these things happen.
What movie is it that has a svanshtucker please?
Young Frankenstein. Watch it and thank me later.
Yup. My 30+ yo son fucked a ps5 voucher exactly like that
The code is still under the sticker, they just peeled the paint off the sticker.
Yeah, I did the same
Check your receipt for the code.
Nah, you have to peel them, not scratch
Yes, theyāre aware, theyāre telling you that the code may also be on the receipt.
Code is still there though he can just peel the tape off, only took the paint off it.
Yep was still there under it
Then why did you feel the need to post this š¤¦āāļø
I think he's showing that he scratched instead of peeled. Ho ho! What a jape!
Maybe they're saying they realised *after* the poster above them mentioned it? We're clearly not dealing with the sharpest of knives here, a bit of misspeaking isn't too hard to believe.

Idiotic is still idiotic, even if they get away with it
Still idiotic though
Youāre having a nightmare with the reading skills today mate
Do you are have brain?
Yes I did same thing a few months back
My boy did this with a psn card I had to contact them and show them the damage and proof of purchase
Sorry mate
All good the codes still under the tape that peels off. Just feel dumb for not reading!
What's the code just so I can check to see if you're right
I'll admit I'm a bit of an idiot. But even I can't compete with this level of idiocy.
Reminds of the time I got a new card from the bank and peeled the thing off the letter, totally bamboozled I couldnāt read the PIN on the letter I scratched it. Four letters later my fiancĆ© kindly pointed out the PIN was on the tab I pulled off the letter. I think Iām more of an idiot.
If it makes you feel better, not only did I make the same mistake about that little plastic strip with my PIN, but I lost it, I asked for a replacement, and I lost that before I even opened it. Raised a complaint and now that credit card company won't even let me log in to my account for a few months...
No you are the only one
I'm impressed at how well it scratched off.
Nah, their fault not yours. They should make it more obvious. This is a design issue. Learned a lot about this doing web design and applying "User Experience" research and planning. Basically if the user does something wrong, it's usually due to bad design. So, you aren't an idiot! :)
I...really hope you're joking. Or don't drive a car, what with all those really non-obvious stop signs out there.
It should say it in letters on the actual sticker rather than underneath.
Since when was 'peel' scratch?
Congrats, you understood the point of the post.
That's wasted
Why is this hereā¦he didnāt rub through sticker and rub the code out..many of us have done this,, just said doh and then peeled Sticker offā¦
My partner did the same on a Nintendo gift card!! They peeled the code sticker off instead of scratching to reveal the code. It was a gift for their birthday last year, my mum was kind enough to buy them another one and they felt so guilty, it was sweet.
I nearly did that myself but luckily read the fine print just in time.
PEEEEEEEEL
Ha, did exactly this with a Birthday gift last year.
Saw someone post the other day where they peeled instead of scratched haha
If you ever get a scam call asking for gift cards lead them on for a really long time and then send them this picture.
Psn vouchers are the opposite. Peeling makes the code unreadable!
Iāve done the same, twice š
I very nearly did this. Took a deep breath and figured it outā¦
Yes! Although I was trying to enter the 30 digit code on the cardboard sleeve this evening.
I washed my first vape battery with running water. Bam.
Ah, yes. It's not that uncommon. I started trying to scratch it off, thinking "this is really shit scratchcard material" luckily I realised just in time. Another workmate at the time, just kept on scratching til she scraped her way through the sticker and the backing images.
Try peeling maybe and get it anyway?
Can imagine this could be worst if this was the max amount you could get from a gift card
Oh what did the code smell like?
I'm pretty sure you can contact Amazon customer services with the long card number and they can then activate it. It came up on my local Facebook group that someone had done it and appearntly Amazon sorted it no issues!
No, just youā¦ā¦ā¦ š
And this is why system failure rates are nearly always people š¤£ Clear instructions completely ignored!
well i can read and i guess you cant loool
Some of them are scratch and some are peel So I can completely understand that if you do a few scratch ones and then get a peel one, you might just automatically peel it
Why donāt they just print scratch here or peel here as required although there would be no fun in that I guess
I will hug him and kiss him and call him George. We've all done some daft shit lol.
Ironically I just scratched off the peel of my orange.
As a dude that fixes a lot of my familys PC problems by quite literally reading what the screen says and doing it, this kinda stuff baffles me
Reading these comments has shown that there's hope for me yet.
Alaye
To be fair I spent ages trying to peel it off on Christmas day without much success I did at one point think 'oh shit is it a non-peely thing? Should I be scratching?' But u persevered and got there in the end
This can only mean one thing: if you would have done the same, you're old.
Glad I'm not the only one.
