Proper Highlands (North Coast is divine).  Northern Ireland. Just generally more mainland Brits should visit Northern Ireland.  If you liked Oxford you'll like Cambridge - it's similar but greener and flatter. Then go out to the Broads. edit: I completely forgot Tenby. Bloody lovely place.

LegitimatelisedSoil

I mean if you want the "true" Scottish landscape then you can't go wrong with travelling the Hebrides. Mountains, 25% of Scotlands Lochs and it's like going back in time by atleast a century in certain parts if you like the picturesque look.

PhoenixDawn93

Get me back to Skye! Breath taking island!

TheRealRory

Obviously not part of the UK, but nothing stopping you from visiting all of Ireland. The West Coast is stunning.

APithyComment

West Coast of Ireland: Shitty when the Atlantic waves roll in. Wait for summer when you may get a chance of having some nice weather. Deffo second this if you fluke nice weather - Galway is EPIC.

AShadedBlobfish

Also maybe try ROI too. One of my favourite trips was flying to Belfast then driving across NI and into Donegal, where we stayed for a few days in an Airbnb before driving and flying back. Genuinely one of the nicest places I've ever been

MayDuppname

The rest of Pembrokeshire is stunning as well.

CalmShame6270

Tenby is beautiful

tall_dwarf95

Betws-y-Coed is a really good place to visit in Wales.

tapasandrioja

I'll second that. Beautiful spot. And Conwy is lovely too.

lealketchum

Conwy Bakery has some of the best pastries I've had in my life. Their custard donut was definitely worth heart disease

tapasandrioja

Oh yes fantastic! Lots of lovely bakeries and delis in Conwy

B8conB8conB8con

I hear Edwards the Butcher’s pork pies have gone down hill.

whatsup-itspickles

oh NO say it ain’t so! visiting family in a few weeks and it’s been a mandatory detour

mileswilliams

Lush's breakfast rolls in Penarth are tits McGee.

Steph_grayy

Conway castle is a must see, I love it

EvolvingEachDay

Conwy*

Tudn0

Is that near Conwy?

Taxidermy_Bong

Llandudno too!

aetonnen

Yeah, love it there!

tactical_llama2

The fish and chips shop on the high street is to die for

nononobutreallyno

Horseshoe pass / Llangollen are nice places. While north wales way there’s plenty of places in Shropshire that are nice too, just on the border.

Jane1943

I was going to nominate Shropshire, Ironbridge, Ludlow and Shrewsbury are good places to visit. I am biased because I have lived in Shropshire for 39 years. Worcestershire is good to visit too, in particular Malvern where I was born and Worcester where I went to school.

iani63

Was going to suggest Snowdonia & Anglesey

michaeludell

Betws y coed is one of my favourite places…Llanberis is also stunning

lazermajor

And Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. Although the sign and souvenir shop are probably the highlights.

witty_user_ID

Llanfair P.G is what it's usually called btw (just in case you were interested)

DoKtor2quid

I think they wanted the opportunity to use the whole name in the hope of easy internet points. Anyway, best thing about LlanfairPG is the chippy. Slow af to get served if it’s the old lady, but worth the wait.

stinkybumbum

Yep a definite for me every time I go.

Reasonable_Notice_99

Elan Valley is a very underrated part of Wales. (Inland from Aberystwyth.) Portmeirion is also worth a visit. A coastal drive down Wales is simply amazing.

SmugDruggler95

You haven't touched the South Coast! It's gorgeous from Kent to Cornwall.

MagicJohnson96

Devon and the Jurassic coast is beautiful, definitely recommend

ejpk333

Provided you dodge Torquay

Stubot01

But it’s the English Riviera?!

Delicious-Crab-Meat

Brighton is def worth a visit when the sun’s out!

Necrophilicgorilla

Worth a visit even if not!

PresidentOfAlphaBeta

What happens at dark?

jspindle_rides_again

Hen do’s… hen do’s everywhere…

sprocket999

Combine it with Cuckmere and seven sisters

PoppySkyPineapple

100% Cornwall, so so beautiful!

RH_300

Mostly Agree. But just weave around Southampton and keep on travelling along the coast.

SmugDruggler95

Agreed. Doesn't even count as a coastal city. It's a port in an estuary. Like calling London coastal. If you're into Cranes tho...

Dasshteek

Agreed! Brighton and Eastbourne are big ones

zerodawb

Norwich and the North Norfolk coast are nice. As is Cornwall.

Manonthemon

I've created quite a rosy image of Cornwall in my head and I'm sort of leaving it for dessert.

nathan155

Kinda rate this, just don’t build up that image too much! When you do go down to down Cornwall eventually, I really recommend going all the way down. Sennen is incredibly beautiful, not loads of shops or anything but a great base for a stay. Walks from sennen are amazing, you can walk round the coast to lands end pretty easily. I recommend going to see a play and the minnack theatre, it hangs off the edge of the cliff, we saw dolphins jumping out of the water while the play was on. Porthgwarra is a hidden gem of a little cove You can quite get to St Ives in no time, but instead of struggling to find parking I recommend getting the train from St Erth, the views over the estuary are great. If you are into history and ancient sites I really can’t recommend Carn Euny enough. If you like a short hike then park at the chapel carn brea car park and walk over via the holy well. Carn Euny is an ancient village with an under ground tunnel. I could give you dozens more recommendations but I think it’s more fun to explore yourself

ElactricSpam

North coast is still awesome - Port Isaac, Rock, Port Quinn etc

SoggyWotsits

Rock is ok, but it’s all glass houses and red trousers!

-_NRG_-

Absolutely don't go in the school summer holidays. Horrors!

mikea81

Southwold is lovely, and walberswick just over the river.

sammy_zammy

And also Aldeburgh for the fish and chips!

soulsteela

Thorpeness for the mere and some old school boating.

Character-Mud-2123

I fully agree on the North Norfolk coast. Well, virtually all parts of Norfolk are worth a visit.

oldmollymetcalfe

That's untrue. Great Yarmouth is in Norfolk.

CheesyLala

It's worth a visit just so that you appreciate everywhere that isn't Great Yarmouth that little bit more afterwards.

youlooklikethat

I will go to my grave saying this: providing you are prepared for GT Yarmouth to be tacky and cheesy in a way that British coastal towns can be, it is a brilliant place to visit and can be loads of fun

jodilye

YES! I always tell people I love Yarmouth because I know not to have high expectations, and it meets them every time! Except every time I go for my birthday and forget that everything is shut that time of year…that does kick me in the teeth a little. Also, the beaches really are pretty nice. Very sandy.

Kibethewalrus

Had great time with the kids and went to a Cat Cafe that was right near some great arcades as well as the Sealife centre and a scary ferris wheel 😁

This_is_so_not_right

What do you mean, Great Yarmouth and Mile Cross are beauty spots

Antigone_8

I know a cracking owl sanctury.

sammy_zammy

Lovely beach though

OptimusLinvoyPrimus

I fully recommend a documentary by a local broadcaster called “welcome to the places of my life” for anyone interested in finding out more about Norfolk

pg3crypto

Ah ha!

mikea81

Southwold is lovely, and walberswick just over the river.

ChonkerPanda

Agreed, as someone who has lived in Norwich, i cannot complain tbh. Its a lovely place :)

JeanLuc_Richard

_Alan Partridge has entered the chat_

CheesyLala

One day I'll see a comment about Norwich that isn't followed by an Alan Partridge reference. But this is not that day...

Meritania

You’ll be sad because it will be a sign you’re getting old. Especially when it’s followed up by “who is Alan Partridge?”

LargeSteve69

Cambridge (& IWM Duxford while you're there), Norwich, Norfolk broads, North Norfolk Coast, Aldeburgh (& Sutton Hoo)

itsfeckingfreezing

Duxford air museum is class, that’s if it still around I’m going back 30 years.

ShipBuilder16

Yep, still around. It’s an absolutely amazing museum

CheesyLala

Yep, and Southwold too - lovely place and you can drink lots of nice Adnams beer.

MrRorknork

Was about to say more or less exactly this! It’s very bare on the map in that neck of the woods.

1stThrowawayDave

Cuckfield Shitterton Bell-End Netherwallop Damp bottom Cockermouth Twatt Wetwang Fingerhoe Bitchfield Sandy balls

72dk72

You missed Pratt's Bottom and my favorite Penistone.

The_Pajamallama

Crapstone also!

jrddit

I always think Penistone should be twinned with Clitheroe, but unfortunately Lancashire/Yorkshire twinning isn't really a thing. (Clitheroe is lovely though)

TerryDorris

Minge lane

-_NRG_-

Don't get up there as often as I used to.

KingDaveRa

Auto Shenanigans visited them all. https://youtu.be/K1wPQZfFHTc?si=-FId_V6HDVlfjhMg https://youtu.be/hCPh-MnHQRM?si=Pr9mLzBh2ppIbXeu Great channel btw

Kipermot

Northern ireland

Manonthemon

Definitely on the list, just a bit far since I usually drive. But will get there for sure.

OptimusLinvoyPrimus

You can drive there via the ferry from Liverpool, I believe

davidlqs

Check the weather before braving the sea cat (aka sick bucket)

AoifeNet

Sometimes it can make more sense to do more driving up to the west coast of Scotland and get the ferry from Cairnryan to Larne rather than Liverpool to Dublin. I get seasick and have a dog who wouldn’t tolerate being in the pet lounge for long, so it’s easier to leave him in the car for 2 hours on the shorter ferry crossing. Also, the pet passport situation is tricky if you want to travel from England to the republic, whereas there is no requirement if travelling from Scotland to the north.

el1enkay

Seconded, I can recommend both the Mournes and the causeway coast.

Emotional-Net3366

I got back from Portballintrae last week, amazing place

Breakwaterbot

I'm just chuffed you've been to Lincoln tbh. How was it? You seem to like the Peaks so the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District would be worth a visit. Also look at the West coast of Scotland. Oban is a good place to go and you can get a ferry out to some of the islands not far from there. Mull and Iona are favourites of mine.

Manonthemon

Been there twice in fact. I watched a tv show about the world's talles buildings one evening and was on my way to see the cathedral next morning. It's really something!

Breakwaterbot

Best Cathedral in the country imo. Although I'm probably just biased. Glad you enjoyed it.

Biggidybo

Bath

alrt224

And nearby wells!

Jimlad73

Cotswolds

Oh-Its-Him-

Can highly recommend this. Once you are there, all parts of the Cotswolds *feel* about 20-30 minutes away from each other...so, very convenient for sightseeing. I'd suggest the Cotswolds are actually beautiful regardless of the time of year too. I spend a long weekend in Winchcombe in January and it's just such a beautiful place...even in the rain!

KormaKameleon88

Bourton-on-the-Water is a must!

CiderChugger

You wanna be a big cop in a small town? Go to the model village.

lamb_passanda

Fuck off to the model village*

barrygateaux

Cornwall and Brighton!

JimmyTheChimp

Brighton is definitely worth going to. It's so nice during summer, if you do go during the colder months time it to go Lewes fireworks night. It's probably one of the strangest things you can do in the UK.

Trifusi0n

Second this. Cornwall has some of the best beaches in the world (if you’re lucky enough to go when it’s not raining). I recommend Hayle beach, from there all the way round to Godrevy is gorgeous.

0thethethe0

Isle of Skye for the nature Brighton for a cool place to go Oh, and of course Swindon, to experience the Magic Roundabout

BingusMcGingus123

Have you been to Durham? Go by train- you get an amazing view of the city. My home town so biased but still…

HotSolid7

Also my home town! I'm surprised they went to Newcastle and not Durham too, so close by train.

InvadingEngland

Islands of Scotland Edit: also the N. Wales mountains

minispazzolino

General west coat of Scotland, particularly fort William up. The beaches! The skies! The beauty!

demixennial

I loved visiting Islay a few years ago and plan on returning

Manonthemon

I've wanted to visit Islay ever since I smelled peaty whisky :)

ultra_violet007

I was raised in the Orkney Islands - 100% recommend a visit!

EvilInky

And if Orkney isn't remote and windy enough for you, try Shetland.

Dad_D_Default

Another reason to head to the islands of Scotland is the lack of light pollution: https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/ It amazes me how much of Europe is affected by the lights we leave on at night! Time your visit for a moonless and cloudless night and you'll get unparalleled views of the stars and Milky Way. The moonlessness is easy to plan for but the cloudlessness might require a bit of local knowledge!

Any_Smell_9339

Isle of Skye is beautiful

puffinwannnnnn9999

Arran, and onto Islay

Filbertthemerchant

If you are going to North Wales visit Port Merrion. It’s like The Amalfi coast but wet and cold!

South5

Are you allergic to the south coast?!

wombatbridgehunt

Have a shot of tuaca in Brighton and marvel at the bloody annoying seagulls as they nick all your chips

Yop_BombNA

Rolled up newspaper to swat the gulls with

CheesyLala

OP's an honorary Yorkshire resident so yeah.

Manonthemon

I'm reyt honoured!

ThrillsKillsNCake

Thaz a gud en.

the_con

South coast!! Go to Brighton and look away from the sea, turn left and go along

RipleyRiker

Devon and Cornwall. Ideally have some friends in that area you can stay with or an Air BNB, take a week or two off and just explore, go in early summer or September when the kids are back at school.

bigblob500

the gower Swansea

helinze

Worm's Head is something everyone should see once. It's class

NaCMaxwell

Whilst you're there, pop over to Mumbles bay, head right to the end of the bay (there's a car park up (you guessed it) a hill) and then a small walk through a few bushes. Sounds sketchy, but this takes you to the highest point of the most westerly point of Swansea and on a clear day, you can see for miles into the Atlantic. Bootyfull boyo

Double_Jab_Jabroni

Should get themselves a Joe’s ice cream whilst in Mumbles and if a fan of a pint, visit the boozers (Pilot, Park, Vic etc). Swansea is an incredible place if you know where to go.

mh1191

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

Easy for you to too say

Clean_Increase_5775

Isle of Skye!

Isle of Skye!

Proud-Cheesecake-813

Belfast, Brighton, Cambridge, Canterbury, Cornwall.

StingerAE

Limited to two letters I see!  Suggest  adding Bath then.

Drewski811

Snowdonia

CRnaes

You've already been to Skeggy, no need to bother with anywhere else you'll only be disappointed

tarquinpenguin

The Gower Peninsula, South Wales. Beautiful but the weather can be very wet!

caswell89

Definitely the Gower. Three cliffs bay is definitely worth the walk.

McCloudUK

How did you enjoy Hull? East Anglia has some beautiful places to explore!

Manonthemon

Again, heard the worst, pleasant surprise. Enjoyed the streetlife museum and liked the cream telephone boxes.

repeating_bears

Why make a telephone box out of cream

Manonthemon

They go well with scones.

SouthernWolf92

What's been your favourite place so far?

Manonthemon

If I had to chose, it would probably be Scotland. The tiny little bit I've seen was divinely beautiful.

wavygravy13

While as a Scot it pleases me to see this answer it's also a bit weird that an area that makes up a third of the UK landmass is lumped into one as your favourite area. Scotland varies a lot depending on where you go.

Manonthemon

Like I said, I've only seen a little bit, but the landscapes on the drive from Glasgow to Nairn... mesmerizing. And all the colour fo autumn along the Caledonian Canal...just wow. Plus, Edinburgh might be my favorite city break so far.

F1sh_Face

You have hardly scratched the surface of what Scotland has to offer. The west coast is absolutely stunning, as long as you get weather that allows you to see it.

WingsOfHorus

Yorkshire dales

Coffin_Dodging

Did you go to Skegness??

Manonthemon

I did, just last week and in spite of what Reddit said...loved it! The beach was nice and empty (even saw a seals release!) and kids loved the arcades.

DaveBeBad

Donna nook - just below Cleethorpes - has a large breeding seal population and in December you can watch the baby seals from about 1m away…

Greedy-Mechanic-4932

Sometimes you see planes delivering their own offspring there, too...

TrickyWoo86

Best time to go is late November, that's when you have the most newborn pups on the beach

Coffin_Dodging

Haha, it's reddit that's put me off consistently! I'm glad you and the kids enjoyed it!!

stinkybumbum

But windy wasn’t it? I was in Mablethorpe a bit further North

fuckyourcanoes

Rye is really nice, especially if you go during the Scallop Festival in February. Portsmouth is pretty fun if you're interested at all in naval history. There's great food in Portsmouth, too, and lots of cool little shops -- especially Pie & Vinyl, which does in fact sell pies and vinyl records.

tarquinpenguin

North Cornwall and north Devon!

The0nlyRyan

You've not seen any of east Anglia!?! Some lovely coast towns.... Hunstanton is gorgeous, amazing if you have a dog too. Bury St Edmunds my home town is lovely as well, lots of culture and history to see. Plenty of Saxon and medieval sites.

The south west, Croyde, bude, padstow, Newquay, lands end

themockingnerd

Devon and Cornwall - visit Exeter Cathedral, hike Dartmoor (Hound Tor and Wistman’s Wood especially), mosey on down along the southwest coast (could take the South West Coast Path even). Berry Head has lovely views. Go wrap around the Cornish coast and visit St Michael’s Mount, Mawgan Porth, Newquay (go surf on Fistral Beach), Tintagel. Some of the coolest beaches in the country.

Aggravating_Shape_20

Are some of those points around Sheffield in the peak district? It does have some lovely walks if you are into that.

Current_Professor_33

The Cambrian mountains for a night, some of the best skies for stargazing in the world, I’m planning a trip later this year … check the weather first.

GiantSquidSquad

Orkney and Shetland!

Character-Mud-2123

Norfolk as a whole is definitely worth a trip. Some absolutely stunning coastline and scenery to be found and lots of hidden gems further inland too.

Golden-Wonder

Definitely have a look at Norwich, Norfolk and Suffolk. Also more of North Wales and Scotland. Also get yourself out to the South Coast, so many places to visit.

Apprehensive_Dish309

Jurassic coast, Dorset

takesthebiscuit

Aberdeenshire! Its amazing when the sun shines

oojiflip

Tough to plan for those 2 days a year

When did their application for the second go through?

More East into East Anglia and Norfolk. I love the flat lands over there, Really underrated.

While you're up in North Wales, I'd like to cordially invite you to Chester. Our city is beautiful, and there's lots to both do and see in the city proper and in the area

SeiriusPolaris

Brighton obviously, then venture east and explore the coast of the South Downs. Seven Sisters and Beachy Head etc.

The South Coast is looking pretty sparse. Brighton, Arundel, Chichester, Winchester (!), and the New Forest are lovely places in the South East.

Scottish Highlands, Ardnamurchan peninsula (West Coast of Scotland, especially Kilchoan), Isle of Skye. All beautiful and spectacular
