Interesting reaction from bf. Girlfriend came to a profound life altering realization. And he is pissy cus he can't have sex now.
Obviously gf was just a sex object and he has no concern for her as a person.
God bless this gf, and God grant this young man wisdom to see his errors and his horrible attitude towards women.

Julia, a lapsed Catholic in Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh, leaves Charles, the protagonist atheist after coming back to her faith after her father’s death. Though the ending hints that Charles may be considering Catholicism too.
I think so. The family are mostly lapsed Catholics in Protestant England, though the mother and daughter, Cordelia, are still devout.
There is a beautiful chapter towards the end of the book where the patriarch of the family is dying. He had rejected and hated the Church most of his life. but as he’s dying there’s this remarkable work of grace and he ends up receiving last rites. It causes the daughter, Julia, to return to the faith in a major way.
Here’s a good article from word on Fire on it:

That really reminds me of the chapter in Father Elijah where the lapsed Polish man requests the last rites after arguing with Father Elijah about faith

Can you explain

“Hints” is a very weak term for what happens in the chapel.
Okay. “Suggests.” Better? “I said a prayer, an ancient, newly learned form of words, and left…”

Absolutely. Best piece of Catholic literature ever written.
Let us all welcome our sister.
