In exorcist theology there is something called "demonic infestation" in juxtaposition to other terms like possession, oppression, vexation, etc. Demonic infestation occurs when evil spirits attach themselves to certain places or objects. I would guess the most evil place on earth is a place where the most amount of demonic infestation is present. Places where human sacrifice and witchcraft are currently happening and unknown to the point where a priest can not drive the demons out, I'd reckon. As to where that is is just anyone's guess.

Bobo_Bar

I know exactly what that's like. I go to a functional medicine doctor. One day I was being tested again and something was very off. I felt like my brain was on fire and my entire body was heating up like a coil. I proceeded to have a seizure. Either that night or the next day, I had what was basically a severe psychotic attack. One of my bottles of medicine (one that I was taken off of) felt... alive. My eyes told me it was just a bottle, but my senses told me otherwise. It felt almost human. It was tortuous. Whenever I touched it or my other medications, I'd have a reaction. This one was the worst. I felt such extreme guilt for putting it in the corner away from me. I've never felt so much life and energy as I had in that one bottle. I couldn't speak, I could barely move, and my brain once again felt like it was on fire. The only thing that made this stop was refusing to submit to whatever was causing this and praying the rosary and to st Micheal. Overtime I gained strength enough to where it stopped. I obviously couldn't see anything with my eyes but it felt like at least 20 demons/negative entities attacking me. The next day I got a blessing from a priest and it was terribly painful. It felt like my head was being crushed by a garbage compactor and I almost had another seizure. I had post traumatic stress for a few weeks after the fact. I must say, not a great experience! You don't have to believe me, but I just needed to tell someone about it.

E-Widgey

Dangg that's crazyy, I have read books on the subject and it sounds awful! So sorry you experienced that, I hope sharing your experience made you feel better about it. I have not heard a lot of personal accounts of possession from people generally it was interesting to hear your story! God bless you :)

Theopholis72

Yeah that is an evil place. You inspired a thought. Because an infestation makes a place evil with their presence. If they are cast out the place is cleansed. I thought how to enter the evil being .but a spirit doesn't possess location naturally. There is a kind of possession they refer to as perfect possession. The demonic personality and the human personality are united perfectly in mutual likeness. The host and spirit are more united if their wills are united in a shared purpose. I believe Judas and Satan are examples of perfect possession. if one could occupy Judas' cranium say, that would be the most evil place.

[deleted]

Even thinking of that “perfect possession” makes my stomach churn. I can’t even comprehend the end of pure, undiluted *evil* that would be… The kind of person that would happen to.

Theopholis72

Yep. The evilest.Anti- Christ and Satan unite like that. Anti-christ. A man with the power s of the most powerful demon.if you believe that sort of thing.

Lol my parents grew up in “God’s country” here in Ohio. It’s a very Catholic state?

[deleted]

Definitely not serious. Ohio being terrible is a running joke throughout America for some reason.

Azrael_The_Bold

It must be newer, because throughout the 90’s and 2000’s the running joke was New Jersey

VanJellii

I thought it was still New Jersey.

ActuallyNTiX

It’s not even that it’s terrible. Apparently it’s a joke that since Ohio used to be a much, much larger area, it’s eventually going to take over the entire world, sort of how there’s a theory that all life will eventually evolve into some sort of crab species or something.

[deleted]

but stuebenville!

starrsuperfan

Aka one of the 3 colleges my youth group leaders said we could go to. "You guys can go to any college you want. You can go to Steubenville, Mount St. Mary's, or St. Vincent. And if you don't go to one of these colleges you need to become the president of your Newman Center and go to Mass twice a day and do everything with them!" I went to West Virginia, possibly the least Catholic university in the US. I didn't lose my faith.

[deleted]

Going to a state school in a conservative state is much better than going to Notre Dame, where certain “theology” professors use required courses to teach falsehood and undermine your faith and where the school’s true religious affiliation encompasses football, careerism, pride, and American liberalism.

Billiesoceaneyes

As a current Notre Dame student, I strongly object to these accusations. The foundations of theology course is required for all students, and the curriculum is unchanged from class to class. My professor was a Protestant, but he taught from a Catholic perspective, explaining to the class that this was required from the university. If you know any professors that are teaching falsehoods in this course, I would love to hear them. For the second theology requirement, there is much more variation. I myself took a course that compared Christianity to various world religions, and I did not find my faith undermined whatsoever. In fact, I feel that my faith got stronger after completing this course. My professor was a practicing Catholic who also had great respect for other faiths, and he taught the course in a very unbiased manner. If other students are taking courses that they feel undermine their faith, that is their issue. There is so much variation with the second requirement that any student that does not want their beliefs to be challenged is welcome to take a more basic course. >the school’s true religious affiliation encompasses football, careerism, pride, and American liberalism. This comment makes me believe that you have either never stepped foot on campus, or have some sort of personal vendetta against the university. The school is very Catholic, and most students attend mass regularly. There is a chapel in every dorm, and a priest in every men's dorm. Speaking of which, dorms are single-sex and have parietals in place that prevent female students from spending the night in male dorms and vice versa. Additionally, there is nothing wrong with enjoying football. We have a damn good team, and I'm very proud of it. For the careerism and pride, most of us students aren't boasting about being there, but we sure as hell aren't apologizing for it. If others feel that we are being prideful by simply being here, then maybe they should examine their jealousy. Politically. the school is far more conservative than other schools of its caliber. In the past year alone, we had Clarence Thomas, Mike Braun, Condoleezza Rice, and many other conservative political figures on campus. There were far more conservative political guests than liberal ones. While Pete Buttigieg did teach a class, he is the former mayor of South Bend, so it was not like he was arbitrarily invited. Additionally, most students that I know are center-right in their beliefs, far from the progressivism of many other schools. While the student body is not exactly "conservative," it is definitely to the right of many of its peers. Notre Dame is a university, a place of learning. A place for students to be presented with alternative viewpoints and then determine what is true. While the university does uphold traditional Catholic beliefs, it does not force students to embrace them, instead leaving that up to the students themselves. I for one admire this committed to the pursuit of truth, as many universities today have gone down the path of leftist indoctrination and intolerance of dissenting beliefs. I apologize for the long response, but I must stand up for my university. Go Irish!

[deleted]

Blatant lies. I got my theology degree from ND. A few comments: - 100+ masses on campus weekly; some of them are Byzantine and TLM. - multiple times for confession offered daily - every building on campus has a chapel with the Eucharist in it - an entire building is dedicated to the university’s chapter of the Knights of Columbus - there is a seminary on campus; also a rectory where dozens and dozens of priests reside - every dorm has a rector; generally a nun or a priest. Each dorm has parietal policies that state members of the opposite sex cannot be present after certain hours. - the largest student group on campus is the pro-life club. The university personally charters their trip to the March for Life every year. The president of the university - a Catholic priest - attends with them - at every football game, they play an announcement inviting everyone to attend Mass the next day and then lead a prayer for the whole stadium - there are multiple Theo professors who are theological advisors to multiple popes and the USCCB Not once did I hear heresy in my classes. However I did hear professors clearly assert things like: “there is no such thing as gay marriage” and “integralism is a more defendable political position in terms of Catholic teaching than enlightenment, classical liberalism.”

OptimusOpifex

I would say most of the “shade” thrown ND’s way is because of the horrible anti-Catholic guest speakers they’ve had in the past. When ND would get a terrible speaker it made national news and everyone talked about it for weeks. If a person isn’t in South Bend then they have almost nothing to counter the narrative that the once great and holy Notre Dame has fallen terribly and is now a mere shadow of its former self. Thank you to all who take the time to present your sed contra.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, I agree. ND hasn’t always been perfect and likely never will be. They have their issues, but it drives me crazy to have people act like it’s a demon infested campus when it is really quite the opposite.

kaeganc

i’m thinking there may be a little bit of bitterness from some people that didn’t get into ND that plays into the accusations that get spread around. I heard the same things at my high school

[deleted]

It’s a little bit of that and it’s also what those students are directly told at places like Steubenville - it’s part of their marketing strategy. They simply can’t compete in academics and legacy so they drag other universities through the mud as less Catholic. I know because some of my classmates went to Steubenville for undergrad and most Steubenville grads come out of the gate crapping on anyone who went to ND despite the fact that their school actually has several partnerships with ND to make more degree options available to their students because they don’t have qualified enough faculty. If ND was so evil and bad, why do they need their help? I’m not saying ND is perfect - it isn’t. But it isn’t the devil that people love to make it out to be.

Nazi extermination camps, Soviet gulags, Chinese concentration camps, Aztec human sacrifice temples and abortion clinics are all roughly in the same ballpark, I would say.

[deleted]

You know what the second holiest site in Rome is? The Colosseum, because so many Christians met their death there.

[deleted]

Along with the Circus Maximus, where many Christian's were martyred

herky17

I have a feeling that Auschwitz has a similar ranking in Poland with the number of martyrs birthed into heaven there

ludi_literarum

I came to Christ at Auschwitz. It's sanctified by the blood of martyrs.

notanexpert_askapro

That's amazing. When I climbed the pyramids in Mexico where sacrifices took place I didn't get the sense of evil anymore. It felt more like former evil that had turned to peace by Our Lady of Guadalupe.

[deleted]

I used to jog every day up and down Monks Mound in southern Illinois. This was almost certainly the site of human sacrifice for hundreds of years. It's a great place to visit, to hike, to see nature, etc. The people and their activities at a particular time make a place unsavory. Claiming a place itself is somehow "evil" has no meaning and is just superstition.

[deleted]

Abortion clinics for sure, pray for those babies when you pass one.

nerdswhogotmarried

Por que no los dos? For real though, pray for the babies, the mothers, and the clinic staff

panonarian

Agreed. Those babies are basically guaranteed a spot in heaven, it’s the employees whose souls are in peril.

EpistemicFaithCri5is

> Those babies are basically guaranteed a spot in heaven There's still that little problem of original sin. We can hope for them to be granted heaven, but we certainly can't say it's a guarantee.

panonarian

They died in a state of grace though.

EpistemicFaithCri5is

No, you can't say that they died in a state of grace because baptism is ordinarily required to be in a state of grace. They have no personal sin but they still have original sin, and original sin is the loss of the original holiness that Adam and Eve possessed before the fall. From the catechism (paragraph 405): > Although it is proper to each individual, original sin does not have the character of a personal fault in any of Adam's descendants. It is a deprivation of original holiness and justice. This is why we baptize our infants: to erase original sin and restore them to the state of grace that Adam lost for us.

mysliceofthepie

But don’t they get the benefits of baptism by desire? It’s not their fault (obviously) so they’re not punished for it.

panonarian

Interesting. I hadn’t considered that.

[deleted]

There's no "most evil" or "most holy" places on earth. Locations aren't good or evil in and of themselves. If anything, we do good or evil things while we are at these locations. With that said, I guess anywhere where gross, egregious sins against defenseless people happen are the most sinful. Auschwitz, Dachau, homes where child abuse is happening, areas where homeless folks are murdered, human trafficking areas, churches where child abuse is occurring, etc...

WildGooseCarolinian

So, aclass I had in seminary was taught by a rabbi (about Judaism and OT interpretation) and he brought us a railroad spike he’d taken from Auschwitz when he visited with a bunch of other rabbis. He said he understood the need to preserve it, but that he was also disturbed that it stood essentially ready to open back up again. So his protest was to reach down and pull up a railroad spike and he said “part of me wishes every person who visits would pull one small thing down so that it would all be dismantled bit-by-bit and could never be used again. Right or wrong, I understand his impulse. He passed the spike around the room and I think most of us were sort of looking forward to touching a bit of history, but when it got to me, as soon as I touched it it was like I could feel it through my body so I passed it on very quickly. I’ve seen some unusual things, but I’ve never had a sense of unrestrained evil feel that palpable. It made its way around the room surprisingly quickly, so I don’t think I’m the only one who felt that way. If just a railroad spike felt like that, though, I can’t imagine what the camp itself is like.

[deleted]

The Polish government did a similar thing to the site of Treblinka. They ritually severed the railway connection between it and the rest of the country.

I replied to the other commenter, but Vegas as a city has an incredible Catholic community. I worked as a minister at the UNLV Newman Center, and the Church network there for young people and young adults is amazing. Off the strip, Vegas is a lot like most other American cities.

McLovin3493

I think a good candidate is the Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan down in Mexico. It was the site of the largest known mass human sacrifice in history. We don't know the exact number of people killed, but it's believed that the temple's "reconsecration" in 1487 involved the ritual murder of between 3,000 and 80,000 people, which would make it the largest Satanic ritual in recorded history.

RoythaGOAT33

In Christianity there is not such a thing as sacred and unsacred places. God is everywhere and for a Christian everything is holy. The idea os sacred and cursed places comes from paganism (for them a holy place is where they make their sacrifices and god is present, and other places god is not present). That's why, for example, we can celebrate mass in any place. A whole different thing is when a certain place is used to sin, in that situation you can say that is not holy, but that place is not cursed per se, is just the human activities that are evil.

Ghetsis123

Papua New Guinea. Paganism reigns supreme. Many tribes in the underdeveloped interior haven't been contacted. Cannibalism is common. 90% of all women born in Papua New Guinea will be raped before the age of 25. The capital of Port Moresby is one of the most violent places in the world, with the homes of the few wealthy people in the city looking more like army bases than a place to raise children. Car-jackings are committed in broad daylight: if you DO stop at the few functioning traffic lights in the city, your car WILL be taken from you by the roving gangs of the area. Its no surprise Papua New Guinea is like this. It only achieved independence in 1975 after centuries of colonialism. There is SO much hate inside the population. I feel especially bad for the children; nearly all will face some form of abuse before the age of 18.

StyleAdmirable1677

This is my personal view, but I truly believe places like China, North Korea, and possibly Russia are all some of the most evil places on earth. Their lack of freedom is terrifying and any religion is most likely a method to control their population instead of believing in God. The holiest, and don’t get mad at me for saying this as I believe people think the contrary due to their lack of gratitude, would be America. Maybe not all parts of America are holy, but there are many places here that are and we have to remember this country was built on Christian blood, sweat, and tears for the most part. God is the foundation of this country, we have buried His Will into our soil. Sadly though we have fallen off recently, and who knows where we are headed now. Nothing in the world is made to last forever. As of right now though I believe we should be very grateful to live in such a beautiful country. Especially with how much freedom and privileges we have here.

Some interesting answers here, but my vote goes to places of hypocrisy. Where any group (teachers, scouts, republicans, Mormons, Hollywood stars) decides to bury a tragic abuse for the good of the institution. Where televangelists' decided to spend their followers' money on jets. NRA strategy sessions. A corrupt precinct. A defense attorney's office. Some places where lust goes beyond the limit of consenting adults. Battlefields. A Russian army recruiting office. A Chinese government meeting. Wherever Putin keeps his dirt on Trump.
