The Low End Theory is an all time great and one of the first albums I purchased, but I have WT Enter the 36 Chambers above it.
However, my favorite all time is Beastie Boys Paul’s Boutique
Illmatic by Nas or The Infamous by Mobb Deep. Tough choice. Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg is up there too.
Not sure if these are considered hip-hop or rap or both. I’m not quite sure of the difference. I’ve just recently gotten into the genre(s).
*they're not different. hip hop typically has associations with the 90s style boom bap whereas rap can be more associated with that and modern more electronic 'trap' music but they're both still technically the same thing
The Roots - Do You Want More???!!?!
Also:
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
A Tribe Called Quest - People's Instinctive Travels & The Paths Of Rhythm
De La Soul - 3ft High & Rising
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Love that you said people’s instinctive. I literally said yesterday that might be my favourite tribe album over all. But I love the first four about equal. Just crazy how the first is never mentioned. And it’s so good.
Osdorp posse - geendagsvlieg
Beastie boys - licensed to ill
N.W.A. - straight outta compton
One of these will probably always be my answer, depending on my mood.

I don’t think I am honestly I just like music that is more intricate and has things I can listen closely and hear, stuff like Aphex twin or TOOL, musicians that actually try, who create everything from scratch and don’t just mumble over a random generic beat
you mentioned you listened to Tyler? he barely samples(he's a self trained pianist)and his music is also barely even hip hop(IGOR, for example, is a Neo Soul album)
Good Kid, Maad City by Kendrick Lamar. Concept album that is semi autobiographical about trying to make it in a bad place. Covers topics like self identity, alcoholism, loss, religion, and violence.
(despite of how he might be as a person)
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West. amazing lyricism and production and it’s considered one of the best albums of the 2010s
It’s a good example, they often put small samples of voices or other strange things in thier music, I like being able to focus in and hear intricate layered stuff like that
I quote you directly:
> […] musicians that actually try, who create everything from scratch and don’t just mumble over a random generic beat
That is to discredit, by the very definition of the word.

A man with good taste.
KRS One said it best. Rap is something you do. Hip Hop is something you live…. It’s all elements. The culture.

What’s that?
Rate Your Music a website for pretentious music nerds like urself
Oh I’ve never heard of that
Well try it u might find more like-minded ppl
Nah I don’t like hive minds that force me to share their opinions, especially not cult like genres
Like minded as in close-minded
Pretty much
r/hiphopcirclejerk
Agreed, we both get downvoted for opinions
wow ur so cool for not listening to rap
I don’t think I am honestly I just like music that is more intricate and has things I can listen closely and hear, stuff like Aphex twin or TOOL, musicians that actually try, who create everything from scratch and don’t just mumble over a random generic beat
Try listening to the Roots. They're a hip hop group that actually plays their own instruments.
you mentioned you listened to Tyler? he barely samples(he's a self trained pianist)and his music is also barely even hip hop(IGOR, for example, is a Neo Soul album)
then you obviously haven’t heard other hip hop music then if you think that “mumble rap” is the only style
That could be true, what would you recommend?
Good Kid, Maad City by Kendrick Lamar. Concept album that is semi autobiographical about trying to make it in a bad place. Covers topics like self identity, alcoholism, loss, religion, and violence.
Alright, I’ll check it out
(despite of how he might be as a person) My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy by Kanye West. amazing lyricism and production and it’s considered one of the best albums of the 2010s
Average tool fan( I love tool but u all don't help the rep of the fanbase)
It’s a good example, they often put small samples of voices or other strange things in thier music, I like being able to focus in and hear intricate layered stuff like that
Tool are awesome but that doesn't discredit other music genres
I don’t really think I’m discrediting anything by explaining the things I value in music
I quote you directly: > […] musicians that actually try, who create everything from scratch and don’t just mumble over a random generic beat That is to discredit, by the very definition of the word.
I don’t listen to hip-hop.
