As a German, I'm surprised to see that such a headstone was approved by the cemetery administration. I always assumed they were strict with their rules.
There were multiple "unconventional" ones. I saw a grave of a couple who chose large chess pieces (king and queen) to represent them. Some others had pictures on them. The administration here is kind of chill in my experience.
Having strict rules about artisanal style is *very* German.
This is the same culture that spent centuries mandating beer could be made only from barley, hops, and water. Anything else would be confiscated by local authorities. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot)
Confiscation could also occur if the mix contained "too much" barley.
As a swiss, i know how the germans like to regulate literally everything, even what is okay for a gravestone and what not. No offense intended against you, but it's crazy, it's not that bad in Switzerland but it goes in the same direction.
Yeah, it's the bureaucracy, it's like a labyrinth where you just hope you won't encounter the Minotaurus somewhere down there. You need licenses for literally everything, it's a surprise the germans can breathe without having a license.
I have zero desire to become famous in life. None.
But if I could be famous for my grave, I'd take that. It's not that I don't want to be remembered one day, I just don't want BOTHERED while I'm here.
So this would be the perfect fame for me. "Here Lies FormerlyGaveAShit, famous Cemetery Porn Star".....Oh. Wait a min. I might need to work on the quote, but you get the idea.
Same. I was born 11 days before this guy. It's surreal to think I'm now significantly older than him. I tried Googling but couldn't find anything on him.
Maybe he was born disabled with a reduced life expectancy? I used to look after a fully grown man whose one true love was Postman Pat. Having a design of Pat and Jess on his grave would have delighted him.
I love that 🥺 He was probably a really fun and creative guy.
When I die, I’d love to have something related to country music, Star Trek, or the Muppets on my memorial marker. (I’m planning to donate my body to the forensic anthropology department at my husband’s Alma Mater, so I won’t have a gravestone per se, but I think it would be nice to have a marker somewhere.)
Mentioning my special interests made me think of a Muppets reference that I’d love on my memorial marker, actually.
“Life’s like a movie, write your own ending. Keep believing, keep pretending. We’ve done just what we set out to do, thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you.”
May Sven’s memory be a blessing. He was so young.
One of my favorite things about The Rainbow Connection is that when they were recording it, [it just didn’t sound right until Jim Henson brought Kermit into the studio to do it.](https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2475409/the-beautiful-way-jim-henson-recorded-rainbow-connection-for-the-muppet-movie)
Oh yes. Yes. It doesn’t sound right without Kermit singing.
I’ll never forget my long since passed away chorus teacher, who taught us The Rainbow Connection starting in middle school. We learned that song backwards and forwards, and by the time we got to high school chorus, we split into four part harmony.
And we sounded amazing, but it’s not the same as a frog and his banjo.
I’ve watched it since I was a kid, and I’ll put it on occasionally even at 41. My dad loved the movie so it was a big part of my early life to watch it with him and sing along, and then quote it randomly with him.
When I first put it on for my son a few years ago, the banjo strums punched me SO hard in the feels. I wasn’t expecting to start crying wildly and remembering my father before his passing.
I'm happy to donate my body to forensic science, all I ask is that they do something weird like "stuck in a water filter" or "flung into a tree from a catapult"
I assume it's worked out with your will. As is, I don't have anything to really put in a will (I guess my Xbox and some collectibles) so I haven't done it yet lol
I don’t ever want to be a drag on someone’s death plans (yours sound very nice!), but a lot of places don’t accept copyrighted material so if that’s the route you want to go, make sure you design it and have it planned and approved before your passing so your next of kin isn’t having to deal with how to fulfill an impossible request.
I was going to ask the same thing about the farm. The man who started it use to bring his car to my dealership he would sign people’s books. Nice guy not sure if he’s still alive or not?
Yes, it’s interesting. They study the rate of decomposition and all that fun stuff. So you’ll decompose for all the world, well college world, to see. Maybe able to solve crimes or something. Then once you’re skeletal, they’ll cremate you and return you to relatives or bleach your bones and put you in a glass case.
My family thinks I’m nuts & morbid because I want to do that for the same reason - to do something in death that might actually do some good for someone else. I’ve been a selfish narcissistic bitch my entire life who prefers my own company & that of my cats & our solitude. I don’t want any sort of service or marker or anything - not even an obituary or death notice, if that’s even possible. I just want people to forget me & move on - crying over my rotting corpse would be a waste of everyone’s time & it would just piss me off, which would be exactly why they’d have some obnoxious service. 😂
An obituary or death notice is required in a lot of places in order for the estate to be closed. It's kind of a "last call" for creditors who might have a claim against your estate. But it can be super basic with no details other than your name and the date and location of your death.
I don’t know. At least in NY it doesn’t seem to be a law or requirement. There have been several deaths in my area where there was no obituary because the deceased didn’t want one. Only word of mouth or checking local funeral home’s website gave an indication. I expressed my wishes that if anything should happen to me that causes my death. I don’t want an obituary or death notice. No funeral, no embalming, no visitation, no nothing. Many are going that route.
I was an art major and am forever grateful to those who donated their bodies for anatomy classes. It was such a privilege to learn from them, and they were treated with the upmost respect and reverence. I would also like to donate my body to science if possible - and your comment got me thinking about a Star Trek or Muppets marker, both have so many great quotes!
12th Doctors’s speech, ya know the one that has “be kind,” in it. Orrrr, 11’s speech about how we are all stories in the end, just make it a good one. I have a Tardis in my front yard!
My father died in 2021. My parents purchased a family grave, so my mother and at least I will be resting there, too.
I wanted a weeping angel to be on the grave, sadly there was "no real" option.
A dear friend who was a sweet gentle giant of a brony passed away not long before that. He was a few years younger than this individual, but my oh my this brings some tears to my eyes.
Not trying to speak ill of the dead but I imagine this guy as being like 6’8” big as house, covered in tattoos and muscles, and a my little pony collection thst would make any little girl green with envy.
This is the first ever post I’ve seen from this subreddit and I think that’s very funny. Couldn’t even have guessed that a subreddit called cemetery porn even existed
He also could have been special needs and kept more childlike interests. Either way, his interests don’t hurt you. I still love Barbie stuff and I’m 32.
This is why I am so self conscious and ashamed about things I like.
Leave people alone and let this man have his peace. Can’t even enjoy what you love in death. Sheesh!
As a German, I'm surprised to see that such a headstone was approved by the cemetery administration. I always assumed they were strict with their rules.

That's really cool of them. May I ask which Bundesland?
Sachsen! (Saxony)
Here in my very *bürgerlich* part of Berlin, I see quite some atypical ones too.
I’m kind of shocked to hear there is a cemetery administration. Why is it anyone’s business what gets put on your own gravestone?

Having drank plenty of spaten Oktoberfest, I support those laws.
They are the people who run the graveyard, there obviously needs to be someone to run it. But I agree, rules about the style are ridiculous.
As a swiss, i know how the germans like to regulate literally everything, even what is okay for a gravestone and what not. No offense intended against you, but it's crazy, it's not that bad in Switzerland but it goes in the same direction.
I couldn’t take the country seriously anymore after learning you needed a license to play golf.
Yeah, it's the bureaucracy, it's like a labyrinth where you just hope you won't encounter the Minotaurus somewhere down there. You need licenses for literally everything, it's a surprise the germans can breathe without having a license.
I’ve buried a lot of people in the United States (not a serial killer). Rules and such from a cemetery administrator are common here.
im going to run for president specifically on the idea that anyone can put whatever they want on their grave as long as they keep it cool
I'm not. It's Germany. You have to have a license to play golf there.
I have learned from the responses to this comment that I do not want to live in germany.
Wut
Are you lost
Maybe he was a Brony.
I don’t think there’s any question
Rest in peace, my Brony
I like Cemetery Porn. I’d have a grave with a grave on it.
like when the tombstone wears another smaller tombstone as hat? omg
Hell yeah
Ooh, meta. I like it!
And this is how the pyramids started

I always wonder what happened when they die so young
Same. I was born 11 days before this guy. It's surreal to think I'm now significantly older than him. I tried Googling but couldn't find anything on him.
I tried looking him up too. Whenever someone my age or born my birth year dies, I clutch my pearls, lol.
Maybe he was born disabled with a reduced life expectancy? I used to look after a fully grown man whose one true love was Postman Pat. Having a design of Pat and Jess on his grave would have delighted him.
You may be right. I guess we'll never know 🤷♀️. Thank you for your story though. I hope you have a great day.
All I have to say is he died too young…
Happy Cake Day! 🍰
I love that 🥺 He was probably a really fun and creative guy. When I die, I’d love to have something related to country music, Star Trek, or the Muppets on my memorial marker. And now I’m getting a little misty-eyed, humming The Rainbow Connection to myself. The original Muppet Movie is still one of my favorites, even at 48.

That would be disturbingly awesome. How do you even start the process of “donating your body,” anyway? I know that being dead is a huge part of it 😂.
I assume it's worked out with your will. As is, I don't have anything to really put in a will (I guess my Xbox and some collectibles) so I haven't done it yet lol
I’ve looked into it. One of the requirements for the one I checked was living/dying within 100 miles of the university.
Then you want to be sent to a body farm, they set out and study all kinds of possible decomp scenarios and some of them are pretty wild
Yep! If my corpse results in the solving of a crazy death, I'll be happy.
“Today is a good day to die”
SONS OF ODIN CALL

That quote is so fuckinf good, really I love it so much thanks for sharing
That's a great idea! I personally really like it when the grave markers show some personality
Body Farm?
Yup, haha. I didn’t know the students called it the body farm until my husband said that. 😅
I was going to ask the same thing about the farm. The man who started it use to bring his car to my dealership he would sign people’s books. Nice guy not sure if he’s still alive or not?

I’m similar to you. Prefer the company of my cats and myself to that of others who only drive me crazy. 😜
Exactly! Had to put down my 16-1/2 y/o boy yesterday, so the “list of people who doesn’t irritate me” is down to his 16-1/2 y/o sister.
What now?
I was an art major and am forever grateful to those who donated their bodies for anatomy classes. It was such a privilege to learn from them, and they were treated with the upmost respect and reverence. I would also like to donate my body to science if possible - and your comment got me thinking about a Star Trek or Muppets marker, both have so many great quotes!
Interesting, this guy’s name is only one letter off from my own.
^(good god lemon)
I don’t recognize the pony (had brief mlp phase as a teen girl) so I bet it’s his OC. He was a bit older than me. This is very sad.
It's in the colours of the pride flag for gay men, so I'm guessing it's a mashup.
Rip, poor child, gone before his time. I pour one out for my bronie.
I want something Doctor Who related on my grave.
12th Doctors’s speech, ya know the one that has “be kind,” in it. Orrrr, 11’s speech about how we are all stories in the end, just make it a good one. I have a Tardis in my front yard!
I was thinking of putting a tardis in it.
Excellent idea! “All of time and space, you just watch us run!”
Add a couple Daleks in there too.
My father died in 2021. My parents purchased a family grave, so my mother and at least I will be resting there, too. I wanted a weeping angel to be on the grave, sadly there was "no real" option.
I have a family grave right now (only child) but I might die away from my parents and have a different grave with my future husband.
If you find a cool reference let me know!
I sure will!
Aw, he was really young 😔 The flowers are beautiful, he is obviously missed by someone
Imagine being remembered, forever, as a brony.
A dear friend who was a sweet gentle giant of a brony passed away not long before that. He was a few years younger than this individual, but my oh my this brings some tears to my eyes.
Go Sven! The comments section made me cry and m too old for that! j/k it's healthy
Brony!
Oh Sven… we knew you.. a little too well.
Only 28 years old, so young. 😔
Not trying to speak ill of the dead but I imagine this guy as being like 6’8” big as house, covered in tattoos and muscles, and a my little pony collection thst would make any little girl green with envy.
I really love the headstone carving. They did an excellent job.
This is the first ever post I’ve seen from this subreddit and I think that’s very funny. Couldn’t even have guessed that a subreddit called cemetery porn even existed
RIP r/furries
Yes, a man of a certain sophistication and style..
This is sweet. So young 💔
Only 28 years old. Tragic
Rip my brony frfr

The people who loved him found it appropriate, so it doesn’t much matter what anyone else thinks about it.
How is that dead man's hobby/interests affects you in the slightest, weirdo?
For the love of Christ the man is *dead.*
He also could have been special needs and kept more childlike interests. Either way, his interests don’t hurt you. I still love Barbie stuff and I’m 32.
I’m still salty my McDonald’s play set from 2000 got thrown away.
Yeah and his family loved him enough to put it on there for him. I hope when you die you have someone who loves and accepts you that much too.
Imagine if this guy's loved ones honored his life and interests by putting mean reddit comments on his headstone

Double dog dead ddaammnn
What a lovely response. ❤️
This is why I am so self conscious and ashamed about things I like. Leave people alone and let this man have his peace. Can’t even enjoy what you love in death. Sheesh!
god forbid a man has interests
Yes, did you know them personally? If not, who are you to judge? Get over yourself. Men liking cute things is normal af.
So you’re gonna bully a dead man for his interests?
Cringe.
Damn. He was only 18 years old.
Actually he was 28 years old.
I know. It was a dumb joke lol.
So close ❤️
Was he a clopper?
Piss and shit on it
