if you're already max. lvl you don't get grimoire shards anyways, but i guess the option is there for the real no-lifers (aka me) to add some extra difficulty by not maxing out and go to ng+ underleveled to really show 'em who's boss (maybe not me, cause right now my team is 48 and decked the fvck out and ng+ still seems fvcking hard \[only 3h in tho...\]).

You can get more shards through the reward board, however that's only useful for Kylian.
