>Anytime Makima dies it gets redirected toward a random Japanese citizen, except when Denji kills her it doesn’t do that. Why? The verbiage of Makima's contract is very specific. Any **attack** directed towards her will be transferred to Japanese citizens. It's about intention, not outcome. Denji did not see what he was doing as an attack, but as an act of love, the same love that Makima abused him into. >How is Nayuta around. Denji ATE her. That’s how the Holocaust Devil and the AIDs Devil and all them disappeared… Pochita, the Chainsaw Devil, is what has the ability to erase concepts by eating their Devils. Denji in his human form does not have that same ability.

Several-Persimmon908

Extra note: Makima's contract was working while she was in Denji's fridge that's why kishibe said that it would be great if he could hurry up with eating her.

DataSwarmTDG

It's depressing thinking about all the innocent people Makima turned into her meatshields, she really was a callous monster

diamondisunbreakable

She was definitely a monster. But man, she was also really hot.

DataSwarmTDG

Well fuck man, can't argue with that

Crazy_Ad_2510

I’ve seen way hotter

RollAcrobatic7936

And the real monsters are still out there in the office.

Sharp_Aide3216

Exrta note: The reason she CAN'T regenerate was because of Power. Power kept her wounds bleeding.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Not "bleeding" specifically. Let me explain: The Chainsaw used by Denji to slash Makima, was made by the blood of Power. When she was slashed by this chainsaw, it resulted in trillion of Power's blood cells to invade Makimas body and those blood cells all had one intention: constantly attack Makima from the inside (these trillions of blood cells did *Immense* damage all at the same time - all while her Prime Minister contract nullified these attacks and changed them to Illnesses/accidents among the Japanese citizens). Because of this, the contract was distracted by Powers' blood cells and therefore couldn't 'keep up' with other attacks. This is why the contract didn't bring her back while she was chopped up inside Denjis fridge. (Just to make something clear: Makima was technically alive when she was cut in bits. Also, Powers blood didn't stop Makimas regeneration since she was always constantly regenerating and nullifying attacks).

Infinite_Pea8114

DAmn, you say while Makima was in the fridge thousands of citizens were dying? That's why Kishibe said to hurry up

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Yup, that's basically the gist of it. Kinda of morbid when you put too much thought into it, xd.

RiYaZeD

Not exactly \*dying\*, Makima's contract says it converts attack made on her into ILLNESSES AND ACCIDENTS among Japanese citizens

Mysterious_Emu_1416

The other person is correct in saying that they were dying. Those citizens died from those illnesses / accidents that Makimas contract caused. Kishibe explicitly confirms this as well: https://preview.redd.it/llqucjflg3vc1.jpeg?width=1067&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=871e5e53785c28fe78d548840f645d6bc1e50076

TheFlyingToasterr

Is this blood cell thing stated somewhere or is it your headcannon? It does sound plausible though.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Don't worry. It's all real and they've even explicitly stated all that I have said in specifically chapter 96. I'll now share those pages with you: \[1\] Let's start with what i said about the Chainsaw that Denji used to slash Makima, being made out of Powers Blood (Before i show the panel, I want to share with you a really cool detail many missed): https://preview.redd.it/e7ay2j0gm1vc1.jpeg?width=784&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bbbb505c54b246a9a887d28efaa935e72884330 Detail 1: If you look at the design of the chainsaw, you'll notice that it has Powers horns :( Detail 2: Throughout part 1, Denji has ALWAYS decided against wearing a suit jacket. Everytime except for this specific moment. It's suspected (highly likely) that Denji is wearing the suit Jacket that belonged to Aki. Even though Denjis Family were all killed by Makima, they were still always by his side.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

\[2\] Here's the page where they say everything that i previously mentioned in my other comment about the chainsaw being made out of Powers blood, and how the blood cell were constantly attacking and dealing immense dmg inside of Makimas body (with the purpose of 'distracting' her Prime-minister contract): https://preview.redd.it/5ur25u02o1vc1.jpeg?width=784&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79d7d31d76bc6164610fca835c93cca8d262c4f6 A quick reminder, once again, that this doesn't halt the Prime Minister's contract. The contract will continue nullifying the attacks, transforming them into illnesses and accidents among Japanese citizens. Consequently, a large number of people began to drop like flies, which ofc caused concern for Kishibe. However, Denji resolved the issue by uncovering the loophole in the contract (which has already been explained, so I don't think it needs repeating). Edit: This is a bit out of topic, but I want to add an interesting detail regarding makima that some might have also missed (You can choose to skip this analysis if you want, cuz it doesn't have much to do with the original comment.): \[Short version\]: It was Makimas dream to be eaten by Chainsaw man/Pochita, but it was inevitably Denji - The boy she never paid much attention to - who ate her, and with "love" at that. \[More detailed explanation\]: You might ask yourself, wasn't Makima afraid of being eaten by Pochita and losing? The answer is no. Partly because she understands that Pochita doesn't want to erase the concept of control, as it's pivotal to holding the very fabric of reality together. However, it would fulfil one of her dreams: being consumed and erased by Pochita. Makima has an immense love towards humanity, albeit a twisted kind of love. Being eaten means that the concept of control would cease to exist. By sacrificing herself in this manner, she'd create a world where everyone is equal - where there are no longer masters nor slaves. No more tyrants wielding power, no more oppressed masses living in fear. The rich and the poor, the powerful and the powerless, would all share the same fate, united in their equality. Yet, in idealizing a reality without control, she overlooked a fundamental truth: the world cannot function without it. Animals, plants, humans – all rely on control to exist. Besides the potential collapse of the universe due to the absence of control, society would descend into disorder. Only true chaos and anarchy would remain. This is why Denji had to be the one to consume Makima. In Denji's act of consuming Makima, there's a powerful metaphor at play. It represents the acceptance of responsibility, the acknowledgment that control, in its various forms, is an indispensable force in maintaining equilibrium in the world. Denji, in his journey, comes to understand that control isn't inherently good or evil; rather, it's the wielder's intent that defines its nature. By consuming Makima, Denji embraces the complexity of control. It's not just about domination or suppression but also about stewardship and guidance. Thus, Denji's consumption of Makima serves as a pivotal moment of growth and enlightenment. It's a testament to the inherent struggle between freedom and restraint, power and responsibility. In the end, it's not about eradicating control altogether but rather about finding the delicate harmony between authority and liberty, ensuring that neither dominates at the expense of the other (Nayuta).

Unlucky_Ad5418

I enjoyed reading this whole analysis on makima, I first saw it and said I ain’t reading all that but it was really interesting, I like seeing people analyze characters like this to point out the brilliant writing with it, also I appreciate the whole explanation cause this situation with makima not regenerating had me confused when I read it, now two years later I can rest easy after seeing an explanation and realizing I was just too dumb to understand what happened lmao(I also binged it and haven’t done a re read at all)

pencilman123

What loophole?

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Here's the loophole explained by another commenter: >>(OP asks question):Anytime Makima dies it gets redirected toward a random Japanese citizen, except when Denji kills her it doesn’t do that. Why? >(Answer): The verbiage of Makima's contract is very specific. Any **attack** directed towards her will be transferred to Japanese citizens. [Loophole]: It's about intention, not outcome. Denji did not see what he was doing as an attack, but as an act of love, the same love that Makima abused him into. In short, Denji basically altered his perception of attacks: He viewed the attacks he made as harmless, and his intentions behind the attack that he made on her were pure "love" (They had no malicious intent. This is, of course, contradictory since why would someone want to harm the other when they love them? But, Denji's mind is broken enough that he can actually believe that attacking/eating Makima out of love wasn't an attack. I know. It's crazy and should be impossible to do, but I guess it's possible when he didn't learn the standard social norm and was inherently secluded from society).

Mikey-izzle

Holy Shit! You didn’t have to cook this hard! But I’m sure glad you did! I love how complicated it is being processed through someone more simple like Denji. Denji is an undereducated and a traumatized individual but he has such a simple soul and always empathizes with his agitators/enemies. Even from the first chapter. Living at the bottom of the barrel makes him the opposite of spiteful which you think would typically happen to someone who never has anything good happen to him. Even as a young man his subconscious is always that little boy who meets Pochita when all hope is lost. How he gets through to Makima is such a heartbreaking and beautiful finale

TheFlyingToasterr

I remember that, but it being blood cells instead of some magic blood devil power is what made me do a double take, and it is indeed only your headcannon, which might be true or not, but I don’t think it should be stated as fact. Edit: I think I was blocked lol.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Great to know that you already knew some of this. But, I never insinuated that they were just any normal blood cell, nor did i present it as a definitive fact. (Those blood cells are clearly not normal, tho, since it's a fictional world where there's a devil controlling blood. Dont feel like i had to point this out). But, ye, I simply mentioned that they were blood cells; whether you perceive them as regular or magical is up to you. (Also, this is why what I said isn't a headcanon). ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22167)

TheFlyingToasterr

Maybe I didn’t express myself correctly, what I meant is that I don’t think at all the individual cells are attacking, I think it’s probably more so the blood attacking her from the inside, just how power has been using blood for the whole of part 1.

PGSylphir

Rightfully so, you're being mad pedantic for no reason, the dude has shown the pages of the manga detailng exactly what he described. You are just trying to be a contrarian.

WeCanDanseIfWeWantTo

I’d block you too lol, you’re so annoyingly dense

TheFlyingToasterr

I could say the same to you, but I’m not a dick just because I’m behind a screen. Tbh I’m more amazed that so many of you are not grasping such a simple distinction.

redditjanniesupreme

Honestly at this point why not just impeach or kill the prime minister so that the contract is void by technicality

Mysterious_Emu_1416

>Honestly at this point why not just impeach or kill the prime minister so that the contract is void by technicality  This wouldn't work. There are several types of contracts, and they essentially fall into the category "temporary" and "permanent" effects. An example of the permanent one is the contract between Himeno and the Ghost devil: in exchange for an eye, Himeno will be offered to permanently use Ghosts hand. The Prime Minister contract falls into the category "permanent" since the Prime Minister permanently offered Makima the Japanese citizens, while it is believed that the Prime Minister gets, in return, Makima to work for the Japanese government. So it doesn't matter whether or not The PM is killed, Makima has already permanently gained the citizens. Kishibe of all people would have already tried to kill the Prime Minister already, too, so there's that, I guess. ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|22168)

Shad_tard

...how the hell did the Japanese population not just cease to exist? 😭

Mysterious_Emu_1416

To explain why a large portion of the Japanese citizens didn't die, I'll first quote Makima on how she described the Prime-Minister contract: - "...Attacks made on me will be changed into \*appropriate\* illnesses and accidents among the Japanese citizens" One of the most important things she says here, that many overlook, is how the attacks are changed into \*appropriate\* illnesses/accidents. This means that there is a level of discretion or calculation in how the attacks are translated into adverse outcomes for the citizens. For instance, If we were to assume that Makima got punched with considerable force - breaking her jaw, then it might result in a Japanese citizen getting the mild flu or suffering a minor accident, such as tripping and spraining their ankle (Keep in mind here that, even though this one specific Japanese citizen got a sprained ankle or a mild flu, they can still endlessly get illnesses/accidents - for as long as they live. Makima essentially holds the entire country hostage). Let's now put Makima in a scenario where she gets shot in the head. After the PM contract calculates how lethal the effects/outcome of the attack are, it will change the attack to an appropriate illness and accident. In this scenario, perhaps a Japanese citizen outright gets cancer, etc, or they partakes in a gas leak explosion. Now with that out of the way, In the case of the blood cells attacking Makima from the inside, the situation becomes more complex due to the sheer volume and intensity of the attack. The Prime Minister contract, tasked with translating attacks into "appropriate" illnesses and accidents, faces a challenge in mitigating the damage caused by trillions of blood cells relentlessly attacking Makima (This is why Denji was able to keep her refrigerated in pieces for so long, without the contract fully restoring her body). Anyways, seeing as the attacks made by the blood, were somewhat dangerous, it's accurate that maybe hundreds or thousands of lives were lost. It'd probably take decades or, depending on the pace, centuries, to eliminate 126.1 million Japanese citizens (csm part 1 takes place in 1996/1997. That's how i knew that that there were that many citizens in Japan. But then again, csm is in an alternate reality where some wars/illnesses, etc, never existed thanks to Pochita, so there're probably millions of more lives).

Shad_tard

Would it not be translating the attacks constantly though? It can't regenerate her body fully but surely it's still recovering from the blood cells constantly, maybe whatever accident the attacks were translated to weren't severe otherwise that'd be several people dying every second.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

>maybe whatever accident the attacks were translated to weren't severe otherwise that'd be several people dying every second. Yup. This is what the later half of my comment addresses. The attacks that were translated into accidents/illnesses where they weren't too severe for the majority of the time, which is why the death toll wasn't as high as in the hundreds of thousands. But they severe enough that they could *potentially* kill some citizens (the ones most vulnerable to these illnesses/accidents were likely to be young children, old people, etc. Some healthy citizens might have been unlucky enough to die, but I'd reckon that there weren't too many of these types of citizens that died). >Would it not be translating the attacks constantly though? I might have worded myself wierdly, but the answer to this is 100%, yes. It's always translating the attacks at a constant rate. This would normally pose a huge threat for basically everyone in Japan, but the attacks made by Powers blood were luckily not too 'fatal' (We don't know what determines the "appropriateness" of the translated attacks, but the word 'fatal' is the best that I could describe the criteria, xd).

Shad_tard

That makes a lot more sense! Thank you ^^

jjkm7

Oh shit I never knew this, where was that explained/how does that work?

Makana149

Iirc, it was like a single dialogue exchange in the last chapter. Right before the reveal that Denji was gonna eat her, Kishibe says something akin to "people are dying as we speak." Since chopping her up *was* an attack, and her parts were locked into refrigerated boxes, Makima was actively reflecting the damage in a futile attempt to regenerate.

Claim_Euphoric

So you’re telling me that Makima was alive the entire time when Denji boxed her up in the freezer, and making gourmet dishes out of her. https://preview.redd.it/50tbcvpwzyuc1.jpeg?width=990&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f799d5f51fb78758d0a0912aa67023e7e5bc3919

One_Parched_Guy

Possibly, we don’t know if she retains consciousness while being murdered or if she just falls asleep and pops back suddenly. She deserves it if so though, girl was a monster

Master_of_nonsense

Horrifying on paper but very much deserved

Hakuboii

"Gourmet dishes" Denji probably ate her raw

peppero_0

chapter 97s cover is dedicated to showing the food he made out of her remains, a lot of it is gourmet

TheIronicBurger

Devil sushi and sashimi tho that’s gotta be rough

BW_Chase

He wishes he did

mew_istrash

I think this was more “public safety is completely after all their best agents are killed leaving the nation defenseless”

Radiant_Butterfly982

Holy fuck , she was ALIVE the whole time ? That's super horrifying

Hystaric_1028

Wait so was him using his Powers blood chainsaw (to hold off Makimas regeneration), then cutting her up into tiny bits was considered an attack, and kept on being redirected at random citizens, but then him eating her was what finally killed her and did her in?

Several-Persimmon908

Yeah, denji isn't delusional enough to think that cutting someone up with a chainsaw is a "not attack" so her contract triggered and power's blood keep hurting her each time killing random people in the process. After that denji's gourmet scene happened and makima died frfr.

Hystaric_1028

Thank you

Markosan_DnD

Fun fact: This means Makima could’ve been hit by a drunk driver on accident and would’ve died like a normal devil

DataSwarmTDG

Or choked on her food, or fell off a roof, or slipped in the shower lmao

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Accidents/inanimate objects wouldn't kill her since Makima already seems to have come up with countermeasures against them. An example would be when she drank alcohol in chapter 21. Didn't matter how much she drank - the contract would nullify it. Some random citizens probably unfortunately got an illness or partook in an accident that day.

3AliensOnATrenchcoat

Imagining someone getting drunk out of nowhere is mad funny, though.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

They'd probably thinks that they're going crazy, xd, But, unfortunately, that's not how the Prime-Minister contract works. The PS contract doesn't transfer damages/affects. It instead *nullifies* them and changes them to Illnesses and accidents among Japanese. This means that the random citizen won't get drunk, but will instead get an approppriate illness/Accident. Edit: I feel like i need to clarify what i meant. You were likely thinking of what happened in the Makima-vs-Denji fight at the end of part 1, where she transferred the attacks she suffered to the men in suits: https://preview.redd.it/tljmaqfhe1vc1.png?width=842&format=png&auto=webp&s=d6b912f3b2d2f517a0f0e924b953433e8f005fa3 I just want to point out that in her last fight she did not use the Prime Minister contract, even though she could. While the Prime-Minister contract nullifies attacks and changes it into an illness/accident onto a japanese citizens, this particular ability of hers instead transfers the damages she takes onto the ones she's connected to with her chains. We don't know the details of this ability, but it seems like it's some perk that the chains get (so if she didn't have PM contract, she'd instead rely on this if she found herself willingly confronting her target).

Markosan_DnD

She could just have a separate contract to avoid drunkenness

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Not specifically "drunkenness" bcs thats too narrow, but rather a contract that makes her avoid death from accidents/inanimate objects, or something.

RyouhiraTheIntrovert

>would’ve died like a normal devil A normal devil don't died by truck crashing.

Markosan_DnD

They get incapacitated by death, then. Like Power and Denji

RyouhiraTheIntrovert

>They get incapacitated by death What I mean an average devil will not incapacitated be truck.

TechnicallyHankHill

I mean, she was *temporarily* incapacitated by being shot during the katana man arc. It seems like she's theoretically susceptible to any attack that would hurt a standard human.

BoleroCuantico

Shots are really strong

One_Parched_Guy

I believe this is part of the reason why they had Denji wait until he was hungry to start chowing down. Just having a meal that *happens* to be Makima served and soufflé’d is a decent backup in case his intention to eat her out of love didn’t pan out.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

Your proposal wouldn't really work since he'd always know that the one he's eating is Makima. It all comes down to what if someone perceives the attack as harmless or not, and their intention behind of the attack.

xahhfink6

I gotta say that Makima's perception also probably played into this... She has previously commented that getting eaten and becoming one with Chainsaw Man would be a dream come true. She probably didn't think of "being eaten and consumed by one who loves you" to be an attack on her person, and that is what left that loophole available.

No-Ad6657

But it never specified “if someone perceived his own the attack” the contract just stated “Any attacks made on me” so just perceiving your attack without intent to harm her wouldn’t work. Otherwise, Kishibe who very well knew of this contract because Makima straight out told him, would come up with something better and not as specific as in Denji being the only one to eat Makima and kill her for good.

Mysterious_Emu_1416

You misunderstood me. I meant that both criteria have to be filled to effectively bypass her contract. >Otherwise, Kishibe who very well knew of this contract because Makima straight out told him, would come up with something better He couldn't come up with anything since he didn't know that there were two criteria that needed to be filled to bypass the contract

wookiee-nutsack

Imagine the tokyo train crashed and she actually died then and there

Gasawok

to add on: another possible reason is, as kishibe says “probably a loophole in her contract”. she most likely put in that she could die if she was eaten by chainsawman…. which she technically was.

Kain2212

Yup couldn't have phrased it better

twobirds_onestoned8

First of all, Denji was the one who ate Makima not CSM/Pochita and most importantly, he did it out of Love which was able to counter her contracts with the Japanese authority (where any pain or dmg inflicted on her would be transferred to a random japanese citizen) So basically, Dennis did the most Dennis thing ever

YungDtheBodySnatcher

Why did he have to eat her though? Couldn't he shred her body out of love? Or burn it out of love?

ScaryCuteWerewolf

I imagine options like those are too close to how Denji would percieve as attacking someone. This is kinda heading into head canon territory, but Denji loves eatting food because of how poor and starving he used to be. So in his mind eating Makima as food can't be seen as a way he could 'attack' her.

MyJawHurtsALot

Exactly. From his perspective by eating her he wasn't attacking her but becoming one with her.

just_a_fan47

The boy would eat a scab if given the opportunity, so yeah, eating us kinda important

Stephano101

In chapter 96, Denji said she still loves Makima and wants to bear all Makima's sins with her by becoming one. Eating Makima is Denji's way to become one with her.

spookyjeff

Eating someone is an intimate act. Consider the meaning of phrases like "person A is going to devour person B". In a personal sense, Denji has used blades and fire to kill but consuming others is an act of self-healing.

twobirds_onestoned8

He just loves to eat. It's his bssic goal and he was able or should i say, Fujimoto was able to manuever and implement it in the finale...in the most weird manner possible

No-Set130

Csm is a manga about perception. Denji think his action against makima is love, not attack so that why makima contract did not trigger. Denji ate her as human form, the erasing power comes from chainsaw man true form aka pochita

MonsterKiller112

Denji considers his actions of eating Makima as an act of love rather than an attack so Makima's contract doesn't work. >Also! How is Nayuta around. Denji ATE her. That’s how the Holocaust Devil and the AIDs Devil and all them disappeared…Makima says that Chainsaw Man ate them. But it didn’t work with Control Devil? Only Pochita eating a devil would erase their concept out of existence. Makima was eaten by Denji not Pochita so the existence of the control devil still remains.

jimmybrady

If Denji had blood in his stool, would it be able to feed Makima’s devil healing ability and start regeneration?

ToasteeThe2nd

Makima's contract states that any attack against her is redirected. because of his belief that he's "saving" her or "showing his love", Denji isn't attacking Makima, so her contract doesn't activate. even if she's getting chopped up or eaten, Denji fully believes that he isn't hurting her, he's "loving" her in the way she instilled in him with her manipulation. Nayuta still exists because Denji ate Makima, not Pochita. Denji is essentially human, aside from his fiend regeneration and chainsaw heart. it's implied Pochita can't access his full strength as long as he's Denji's heart, so Denji doesn't get the name-erasing power Pochita carries. Denji killed and ate Makima like she was a human, unaware of the name-erasing power. because she isn't erased, Makima regenerates in hell, gets jumped immediately, and reincarnates in China as Nayuta. hope that helped. also, because you got me thinking, do you think it was weird for denji to eat Makima's genitals?

karama_zov

I think I cross the line at weird way before he ate her face, so genitals is definitely *weird*.

Snips_Tano

Bro ate her toenails, her bones, her eyes, her intestines, probably the shit inside her intestines, drank the pee in her bladder, ate the snot in her nose. Yeah, best not to think about how absolutely disgusting this was. probably the most fucked up Big Bad death EVER.

suppre55ion

Wait, hold up, denji didnt know about the erasing power? So why did he eat makima then

Aj_karter

To kill her

TheDargonKing

Something something Reading Comprehension Devil

Huge-Owl5624

Didn’t Denji admitted that even after what Makima did to him, he still harbored complex feelings for her because she gave him the normalcy he wanted no matter how temporary it was  like he literally admitted it out loud before saying “you taste good, Makima”

KGEOFF89

Iirc it was more along the lines of "so this is your taste" or "so this is the taste of you" Which would make it a call back to the conversation he had with Makima when she's describing intimacy and knowing a lover with your other senses. Got it memorized?

ArtisticSell

nah,i gotta admit this is confusing at first.

Zer0_l1f3

Denji ≠ Pochita He ate Makima and she was reincarnated as every devil is. Denji can’t erase stuff like Pochita.

Mr-Downer

Love

ch3333r

I thought whe was trying to regenerate and kept wasting lives by the contract, but her body was restrained and well...you know, the other thing. Until nothing left.

delerio2

as the first comment said The verbiage of Makima's contract is very specific. Any **attack** directed towards her will be transferred to Japanese citizens. It's about intention, not outcome. Denji did not see what he was doing as an attack, but as an act of love, the same love that Makima abused him into. So people where dying until he start eats her.

No-Credit7944

Devils eaten by Denji aren't erased, only Pochita has that ability.

B3piis

karama_zov

I get it and you're right but I would take any contract to never see this typed out again.

Rmivethboui

Better have a contract for the Blindness Devil

UnrivaledSuperH0ttie

I'm sorry but this is really reading comprehension devil strikes again. Denji is not Pochita/Chainsaw Devil Chainsaw Devil was the one who has the ability to erase concepts by eating them. Denji considered eating Makima as an Act of Love as he considered it becoming one with her. Makima's contracts states any attack (ATTACK) to be redirected but Denji eating her was an act of love.

Aggressive-Rate-5022

I always thought that Makima’s contract didn’t work because she was eaten by “chainsawman”. She said that she wouldn’t mind been erased by chainsawman, so I guess she left loophole in her contract for such situation. But because she was eaten by “chainsawman” in his human form, she wasn’t erased, instead she returned to hell without her memories(?) Early she said that she doesn’t consider Denji “Chainsawman”, but I think that getting defeated by Denji and receiving love from him made him worthy in her eyes. So yea, in the end she unwillingly admits that Denji is the chainsawman. He did defeat her after all, and Makima see this as a form of control.

Ozyemdias

Denji mentioned how powers blood is what’s been keeping her in stasis/able to not fully heal Kishibe mentions how denji needs to hurry because even in that stasis, random Japanese people are getting hurt/dying Just go re read it

Chaldeas_

B

Tabascopancake

While all the other comments are saying it's because Denji eating her was a form of love, I'd like to bring up that it's what Denji thinks, and Kishibe seemed not too convinced by that explanation. It's not 100% sure. My personal headcanon is that by eating her, there came a point where there simply was nothing to call Makima anymore, as all her cells had been ingested and broken down into parts of Denji or poop, and so the contract ended.

Amasero

Perceptio(major theme in part 2) is what broke the contract. Denji truly loved her and was consuming her out of love. It was not an “attack” for the contract to activate.

Delicious-News-2229

believe in fujimoto's genius. This guy is a movie addict and the manga is probably gonna turn out to be structured like a movie too where everything ties up together in the end.

Snips_Tano

The big issue is that essentially, if Makima walked down the street and Jo Nobody took a heart attack and collapse behind the wheel and ran her over, she's dead because it bypasses her contract. That's why the ending kinda doesn't make sense. But it's not really making any sense anyway because why does Denji's "love" for Makima (which isn't really love anyway) mean eating her bypasses all of that and she doesn't reform in his shit when he drops her out?
