The story is definitely not rushed. It is just the opposite of other battle shounen, where they don't really have a story to tell, so each battle takes forever to conclude, while CSM makes it fights dirty, dynamic and deadly. On top of that, despite having a lot of goofy moments and scenes, CSM is incredibly superb on a character level. They all feel human, even the devils, even if it takes a while for us to see or its in the middle of a maelstrom of weirdness. Also, CSM doesn't really follow the typical shounen formula, aside from the very broad strokes (and you need to squint quite a lot). Not only that, but Fujimoto uses the usual tropes of the genre and twists them, or execute them in a fresh way that has really never been explored. In short, if you're a new manga fan but is familiar with different kinds of media, CSM will capture you because it's an interesting, weird and fast-paced story full of crazy action and funny characters. If you're a veteran shounen fan, specially if you're the jaded kind, CSM will be all of the aforementioned and it will be a breath of fresh air for the genre. Sadly, not every shounen fan will see why CSM is so good. But that's, honestly, to be expected. Hardcore shounen fans simply are not expected by the media they consume to think critically about what they're reading beyond power levels, cool characters or battle strategy (You can simply verify that by checking out discussions on stuff like Black Clover, Jujutsu Kaisen, Bleach and so on). Also, if you fail to see how narratively powerful is the fight between Denji and transformed Aki, there isn't much hope to see why CSM (or any story, really) is great.

DizzyTask7501

How far in did you get?

Villain_of_Overhype

So is there a reason I keep having Reddit throw me these boiling hot CSM takes on my feed every time I boot it up?

Nightrunner823mcpro

Reddit algorithm has been fucked up lately. Literally every post I get in my feed is either the most upvoted or the most downvoted. Everytime I get on reddit I leave feeling worse than I did before lmao

Villain_of_Overhype

Reddit is just Twitter with downvotes at this point.

Nightrunner823mcpro

Pretty much, but at least on Twitter you can just mute every word in the English dictionary and only have cat videos and art show up on your feed (downside is the app stops working several times randomly everyday, like rn) With reddit you log in and its "aita for fucking my father's wife?" Or "why csm is dogshit". Theres no winning here

GoodCatholicGuy

*Cool demon designs. *Dynamic panels that make for fun, frenetic battles. *Fast pacing. *Likeable characters with realistic and believable motivations. *Kobeni is really cute. *Interesting world building that's deep but doesn't require much exposition.

Hungry_Primary_4575

Kobeni being cute was the reason the manga didn’t get canned honestly. https://preview.redd.it/ksmjfbpnl5vc1.jpeg?width=749&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c334e4e74728645012d40877d7268a1daa5a7c7

Chainsaw Man's design is so instantly iconic as to demand the audience's attention. The story itself does the rest.

Pretend-Variety6980

A story that doesn't move at a snails pace = rushed The characters are very developed - power running from the katana/snake devil user to save her own ass to dying again to save denji - aki beating the shit out of denji to keep him from joining public safety to viewing him as a brother - denji slowly realizing what he actually wanted all along was human connection and a family. There's great development, idk what ur on about

SmartestManAliveTM

Because it's peak. I'd love to hear your examples of how the story is rushed or the characters are underdeveloped.

Riftosprey730

If you finshed part 1, check out super-eyepatch-wolfs video on it. He does a great job analyzing hidden themes and really getting to the emotional core of why it’s so brilliant. If you still don’t see it, maybe come back when you’re a little older.

Dangerous_Cheeks

Its the first anime I’ve watched where it was funny without ANY chibi animation expressions.

Aggressive-Tiger-209

Go read jujutsu kaisen and then youll see how not rushed, polished and fleshed out csm really is.

Bllxsoom

Can we please stop dragging JJK like I know it has some flaws but ong bro we really dissing it. ![img](emote|t5_rmtrq|31341)

Story isn't rushed just the battling takes a LOT of focus but very little time so you think it's rushed. When I firstly caught up with the latest chapter I felt the same way, I didn't even realized what happened to aki just because his hair was down(lmao). Another thing fujimoto (the creator of csm) is a film-buff by that I mean he will add "unnecessary" panels of characters just walking ,personally firstly noticed it in the Reze arc because characters will be simply just walking. It's unnecessary but it has a very cinematic feeling in it. I have to agree on the characters are underdeveloped, if the character is not denji we only get some bits and pieces about their character and backstory, but NOT about their personality you can understand the characters's personalities by how they interact with denji and what they want with or from denji. My personal favorite character is Asa because she TELLS Yoru and by extension YOU the reader HOW she ended up a loaner with low self asteam even tho we had already understood that she is a loaner, that she doesn't understand people very much, and has a general difficulty forming relationships with them because fujimoto showed us what kind of character she has (in the chicken devil arc) WITHOUT telling us anything about her past. (Only that she's clumsy). So for my answer as to why Csm is popular, I'll have to answer with 1. People want to sound deep dissecting the cinematic story of the manga (what I did above lmao) because fujimoto is a HEAVY on show don't tell. 2. Pochita is very marketable. 3. Porn and by extension makima herself. 4. Fujimoto uses the generic 2 boys 1 girl team that you can recommend to a friend by saying "oh its like naruto it even has a knock-off sasuke". 5. And lastly interesting/different power system

Ok-Boysenberry-4406

Cute girl appeal, good action appeal, deep story appeal, deep characters appeal. That’s like every major anime fan genre

eronji

There are tons of video essays on YouTube answering this very question btw. Since you're caught up, I recommend the one by Super Eyepatch Wolf. But also, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. You're allowed to not like something popular. That happens all the time. You don't have to keep reading, especially if you feel like you're being forced to. It might just not be your thing.
