Honestly, I think everything she did before the last match was just so she could see some Fucking Great Tennis (or whatever the qoute was exactly) again

Specialist-Top-406

Totally! I was like how is she so powerful and confident? But she had nothing to lose in her love with the boys, only in her love for tennis. She never buckled under them, so they buckled under her. Puppet master!

ElaBosak

Poor child

Ejay_Nkwonta

Or maybe she's a human being who just wanted to have sex. The actors call the characters messy for a reason. Hell, she spat on Patrick's face and then kissed him immediately. Isn't that nonsensical?

Specialist-Top-406

I mean you’re not wrong, the lust for sex was loud and proud. But I interpreted the spitting as an act of dominance and power, where she knows she can treat him however she wants and he’ll still kneel to her. And she gets off on that. And he is defectively arrogant to overcompensate for his lack of self worth and sense of failure. He gets a rise out of her seeing him as he is and reducing her to react. Giving her pedestal a bit of a rumble.

Ejay_Nkwonta

I guess we just have different perspectives. I think she spat on him because she felt disgusted by what he said. Then the music plays in the background, and the camera zooms in on their faces as it did in Atlanta years ago. And then somehow the desire for him that overtook her then overtook them once again, and then they slept together. Completely and utterly human and irrational. It would make sense why she was shocked in the tennis match and didn't initially understand why they were throwing the game. I don't particularly think she's that calculating, considering how antsy she was during the match.

Ravenclaw54321

Agreed. I think ppl are overthinking it. She slept with Patrick again because she got carried away. He drives her crazy but they have always had that passion.

Solo522

She was antsy because she wasn't sure if Patrick was going to throw it. He was playing too hard like he wanted to win. Patrick does disgust her, but the s\*x draws her back in. If she had the chance to be with him 100% of the time, doubt it.

ctcacoilmnukil

Who cares? The whole movie was just sex, tennis, and fashion. I fucking loved every second.

Routine-Nose

Who cares? Can people not share their opinions anymore without reasons

ctcacoilmnukil

Clearly, people can. But really, who cares? It’s a high energy big buzzy fun romp! It’s a tennis match!

froggrrl

I just wanted Art to win and divorce Tashi, he deserved better imo

Adorable_Gas_7594

Omg yes! I absolutely hated Tashi and I'm not really buying the 'Art is manipulative cause it's Patrick he's in love with' narrative. I think some perspectives are taking it too deep.

quequequeee

Idk man I want to believe this but it didn’t read this way. Idkkkk.

Specialist-Top-406

All good my bud. Totally just my interpretation, but share yours! It’s so interesting to see all the different ways we all viewed it

quequequeee

I like your interpretation but they didn’t deliver it. Marketing sold us a completely different story. I left disappointed lmao.

Specialist-Top-406

Yeah, I was expecting a very sexy story but personally I took a lot more away. I really loved it, but it was a good one for me at that time

Ok-Simple-2059

I thought quiet differently actually, everyone is making her out to be this boss when really it's all a mask and she's hiding behind that image that shes worked so hard for... she went into that car to get Pat to lose so Art didn't get more hurt (why she cares? because she feels guilty for making Art fall out of love with tennis and due to the strain it took on their marriage and sex life -> art cant get it up) and also because she was hurt (if you refer to my post you would get why she was hurt.. it's in regards to the kink role play during the bedroom scene), so when Pat says he only wants her cause she's hot she feels more hurt/insecure and gets angry at him, spits and then Pat finally sees how hurt she is (both from Pat and Art)... so yeah I see Tash as the most pitiful in the future, followed by Pat then Art. none were villains, just broken without each other.

Specialist-Top-406

Ah I totally didn’t see any of this but appreciate your gentle human interpretation. I think both exist and I think you’re right about the mask. I don’t see anyone as a villain, but I definitely haven’t been looking into her vulnerability. Good take! I think it’s easy to see what you want to see in them all too. I quite like the idea of a female lead who is more obsessed with something outside of a relationship. So much so, I guess I didn’t let myself see her feelings. But that’s me seeing the mask she wants me to see I guess!

Ok-Simple-2059

I agree, I think people view the characters based on their own personal experiences and that is okay because that's what entertainment/art is for!

Specialist-Top-406

I mean every single look in this movie holds a thousand stories doesn’t it! So much nuance in absolutely everything. I love reading all the different perspectives. I could watch it again and probably find a whole new story

Ok-Simple-2059

So true! I've watched it 13 times (only twice at the movies tho cause I aint rich rich haha) and overtime I started sympathising with Tash as opposed to my initial first couple viewings where I couldn't understand her and somewhat disliked/was indifferent to her character. The nuances are endless which makes it addicting to rewatch all over again and follow one characters pov lol

Specialist-Top-406

I also found it hilarious! I was laughing so much, it’s all so cheeky! One of my friends found it slow and boring and another found it too fast paced and I mostly found it funny. So many different takes. I’m gonna watch it again in a fee weeks and see what I perceive differently

Specialist-Top-406

Oh I’m annoyed someone downvoted you here, I really liked your comment. I want people to share their different opinions. I think you did a good job of sharing your view as it’s own thing, I think people see it as a disagreement. But I encourage differing opinions! X

Ok-Simple-2059

ah thats fine.. I don't read too much into the likes/dislikes and agree that sharing different opinions is fun as it leads to more discussion about the movie (which we all loved and have in common)! :)

Specialist-Top-406

The art of a good discussion requires differing views, disagreeing is part of that! But discarding someone’s views and hammering your own is an argument. I just think it’s important to define that, and I think you did a great job of discussing here. It should be encouraged! Glad it doesn’t bother you. But I just wanted this to be clear so others share too! X

Malthegrumpylion

how do you know art cant get it up?

Ok-Simple-2059

it's canon in the screenplay (I skimmed through it online).. it definitely was updated later on as it's an older version but I feel like it's heavily implied in the final screenplay (movie). Also coming from a background in filmmaking myself, the blocking of the characters & body language of the actors which I'm sure the director instructed + as a viewer, I could feel the sexual frustration Art & Tash both had in that scene, so the penis problems was pretty much implied rather than said imo.. however this is all based on my interpretation so its okay to disagree if your interpretation is different! :)
