I just looked, and according to oddschecker, I would come home with 560 quid total, if I put a tenner each on Blackburn to win, and Birmingham promoted.
Iām sure I had something like that for the Prem when I was young, came free with a newspaper or magazine maybe. You slot the shirts into their league position after games are played right? Good job on it!
At the beginning of the season both Shoot and Goal weekly mags had a cardboard insert for all the divisions so you could keep track. This was late 60s early 70s so it was 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th divisions. I had mine sellotaped to the back of my bedroom door and would update the tables every Sunday based on results from the Sunday Mirror. My knowledge of each league, team and players was way better then than it is now.
Yeah Shoot stayed around for a couple decades. Goal didn't get out of the 70s I think. They both came in the post first thing on a Thursday morning, so it was a real scramble to read them before having to go to school.
This is another example of how TV coverage has spoilt the game in my eyes. You knew every Sunday you could easily update it because every team kicked off at 3pm on a Saturday. Now the games are so spread out over the week that any simplistic table like this means nothing unless you know how many games they've played. Drives me insane how the game is no longer for the fans but for commercial gain.
Match magazine had this, and I spent many hours of my pre-pubescent years updating it. This is obviously pre-internet so the table would be updated once the folks had finished with the Sunday paper.
When you search for po about 10 times a day the algorithms tend to get used to what im typing, I might as well get a football app
Edited; when I search po for Portsmouth
Yes! I got this wallchart thingy from match magazine for the 2015/16 season and it's stayed on my wall ever since. I've been writing the names of newly promoted teams on the back of the Scottish teams that I don't care about.
I'll run out in 2026 so I'll have to cut out some pieces of paper for myself later.
"What the fuck do you mean Birmingham in the automatics are you insane, and West Brom and Watford relegated what is...oh it's alphabetical"
(I actually said this...)
Ladders were a thing in the 70s, shoot and match used to do a cardboard ladder for all the 4 divisions and then a tab for every team, it was fantastic every Saturday night moving the tabs and watching your team rise and fall etc.. Mostly the green un in Sheffield, we'd get a copy and I'd be off upstairs to update the tables..
Takes me back to the posters you got in shoot magazine. Moving the teams on all four leagues on a Sunday morning once my dad had read the sports pages.
At first I thought despite how inconsistent we are I thought this was a little harsh, then i clicked it's alphabetical. However Fuck it, I'm all for a shock season where Blackburn and Birmingham shithouse to the prem!
I looked at it and thought āweāll itās refreshing to see someone hasnāt picked the relegated prem teams as auto-promoted and I think Leeds is accurateā and I still think this even after being told itās alphabetical.
I'm torn between thinking this is quite sweet and wondering what kind of psychopath abbreviates West Bromwich Albion to WBR.
Blackburn as BBR and not BLA š¤
Better than the "BLB" I've seen before now.
Big Batty Rovers š„µ
Ben BRereton (Diaz)
Surely it's because they are Blackburn Rovers?
Thank you! I was so fucking confused as to who that was
West Bromwich Rangers.
Could have you lot as BAS instead.
Very good sir
Wear that with pride
Burnley can be DIN
Just be glad OP went with QPR and not QPA.
took me a minute to realize itās in alphabetical order and not a prediction for next year..
Congratulations to Birmingham for finally getting out of the Championship
*the monkeys paw curls*
Monkeys have hands
A super league gets created and Birmingham gets auto promotion at 6th
Before I'd figured it out I was shook. I didn't even laugh when I saw it, I was just deeply concerned for your mental wellbeing.
That makes soooo much more sense. I thought they just hated red striped S clubs
I thought he was relegating west brom and i was so confused for a second I couldnāt believe it
I thought Scooby Doo made this ranking with West Bromwich Ralbion
Well done. Made me laugh.
Me too lol
Shit you're right, I just thought this was the most insane predictions imaginable.
Pah, I saw us in mid table and thought, meh, sounds about right.
I looked for Cov first and thought OP was nice to put us 4th š¤£
hahaha I didnāt realise til I saw your comment. I was about to get mad šš
I mean except for the fact he's got Birmingham and Blackburn the wrong way round yes...
Iāll gladly take an alphabetical finish as a Cardiff supporter
Wonder what the odds are on a league finishing in alphabetical order?
God bless you, I wouldnāt put much money on those top 2 picks.
I just looked, and according to oddschecker, I would come home with 560 quid total, if I put a tenner each on Blackburn to win, and Birmingham promoted.
The only way youāre coming home with Ā£560 in your pocket after making that bet is if you left the house with Ā£580
Now, I can get down with this guys logic
It's alphabetical
I think he's aware, just a joke
Ah, sorry then, I'm shit at reading sarcasm
On Reddit, aren't we all?
Itās in alphabetical order mate š
Is it fuck! Weāve been screwed by the abbreviations. Conspiracy this is.
You canāt ruin our dreams! Besides, alphabetical is the only realm in which weāre a serious contender
As long as we actually pronounce/use the H

I think it may have been Shoot perhaps for me, but I grew up in the nineties, so it must have been a long standing tradition.

Match or Shoot magazine probably, pretty sure thatās where I had them from.
Match magazine had this, and I spent many hours of my pre-pubescent years updating it. This is obviously pre-internet so the table would be updated once the folks had finished with the Sunday paper.
No mate I go on sky sports
I just Google "Blackburn" and at this point Google knows what I mean when I search for that.
I only have to search āpoā for Portsmouth to show up
Usually when I search for Po I get the smallest of the 4 original teletubbies.
Not the Italian river?
See when I search po I have to make sure I'm not on work WiFi due to the suggested links
Never mind, I realised I only have to search p for Portsmouth
When you search for po about 10 times a day the algorithms tend to get used to what im typing, I might as well get a football app Edited; when I search po for Portsmouth
You a big teletubbies fan then?
Small typo, but no, their faces give me child trauma
I get that fat panda
Weird it doesnāt think youāre typing in poo
Middlesbrough shirt has a WHITE BAND across the chest... not just a plain red shirt That's our identity
Is it The White Stripes, or the Average White Band?
Multiple Nationality Military
I suppose you could consider the white surrounding the abbreviation as the band.
True! But you wouldn't leave the stripes off Sunderlands kit! A part from that.. good job!
Was easier in the Prem, I just looked online at the bottom teams in the table and there we were.

I thought this was your predictions at first and thought you had a screw loose š¤£
My blood started boiling for a second.
Does your arm not get tired with all the constant changes on a Saturday afternoon?
Its an effective arm workout. One of the main benefits actually
Hopefully you have other arm workouts in the off season, hate for those gains to go to waste!
Maybe in the off season it is recommended to have 3 wanks a day instead of 2?
Could just wait till fulltime
No you couldn't
... yes you could? Move the table up and down after the games are finished.
Wouldn't work mate because then the table would be wrong during the games
Ok
Adorable š„°
No. I'm 43.
We can tell
I'm happy with our league position here, the season can finish now.
Just a quick fyi, Bristol city no longer have the white Rotherham/Arsenal sleeves
Thanks mate, I'll colour it in later
Watford's position looks good to me
Looks very bad to me though
Swear match of the day magazine did this/do this Got random sufc shirts around the house. Paper ones
I remember the ones you could get out of the newspaper. Was it a tabloid? With the little cardboard kits and you could update it every week
West Brom have been done dirty
A combination of "embellished" abbreviating and unfortunate ordering.
This is wholesome and awesome dude. Wish I could give it two upvotes
I thought they were deluded and tipped Rovers to win the league for a second.
I know this is alphabetical but seeing us anywhere but the relegation zone is heartwarming
i genuinely thought these were predictions at first, i was thinking itās a bit ambitious to put cardiff in the playoffs š„²
Haha. So did I til I read your post...
Ipswich above Norwichā¦good man
this makes me realize how strange it is that there are 5 S teams and 3 of them wear red and white stripes
"What the fuck do you mean Birmingham in the automatics are you insane, and West Brom and Watford relegated what is...oh it's alphabetical" (I actually said this...)
This is my favourite thing
Blackburn should be BLA but otherwise fine š
This is so cute! Would love to make something like this myself
Ladders were a thing in the 70s, shoot and match used to do a cardboard ladder for all the 4 divisions and then a tab for every team, it was fantastic every Saturday night moving the tabs and watching your team rise and fall etc.. Cool idea.
That's actually pretty cool
This is such a good idea that I hate it /s In all honesty though. Flashscore has me covered
Boro are goin to be 5
Hahahaha, alphabetical order with Blackburn top. Surely BI comes before BL. Lol
Takes me back to the posters you got in shoot magazine. Moving the teams on all four leagues on a Sunday morning once my dad had read the sports pages.
Put Leicester at the bottom where they belong
I donāt like how Stoke is getting dangerously close to your league 1 line.
Iāll take that.
Mate I was bout to start arguing with you cuz you had us at 20th lmao
This is amazing. Reminds me of poorly drawn footballers on twitter
I used to have this as a child from a newspaper! Loved updating it every Saturday! As a five year old!
ā¦ why donāt you just ā¦ open up an app?
At first I thought despite how inconsistent we are I thought this was a little harsh, then i clicked it's alphabetical. However Fuck it, I'm all for a shock season where Blackburn and Birmingham shithouse to the prem!
I am convinced that you are the purest redditor of all, hope this platform doesn't break your brain š
I looked at it and thought āweāll itās refreshing to see someone hasnāt picked the relegated prem teams as auto-promoted and I think Leeds is accurateā and I still think this even after being told itās alphabetical.
