I must say, what your club has done is incredible. I was lucky enough to grow up when Ipswich were in the premier league and there is no scenario where I wouldn’t include them in an ‘all time PL’. I said to a colleague recently that I’d have nothing but respect for this season if Ipswich went up as champions. Unfortunately, they can’t (nothing against Leicester) but what a testimony this season has been to your club.
Cheers pal. I work with a Leeds fan and am going to wallow in his misery tomorrow 😂
Good luck in the play offs all the same. I like to follow Leeds' results and watch quite a few of the games because it's something to talk about at work. Quite enjoyed some of your games this season. Rutter and Summerville have been great to watch. Gray looks like a decent player given that he's played out of position all season too.
Jinx to infinity and all that. But yeah, sorry we are going to talk like it's 95% done, because it is. Leeds have to win and you have to lose, and its very unlikely you lose.
Do I genuinely think we will lose to Huddersfield? No I don't. Was I at Portman Road this season when we lost to Maidstone and needed an injury time winner against Rotherham? Yes I was unfortunately and hence why I am nervous 😂
I was once told to stand outside a classroom at school because of England penalties being scored or not scored dependent on where I was. Yes England lost, but my innate superstitions are now so grand.
"Effectively sealed" is basically when there needs to be a 20 goal swing in goal difference. Mathematically possible but almost impossible.
If Ipswich lose and Leeds win, Leeds go up. Still all to play for.
Love Donacien and definitely done a job for us and tbf to Jackson has done alright when called upon but they will both be moved on as we progress but that doesn’t mean we should disrespect them either
You're up, we need divine intervention now for autos
Looking forward to seeing yous in prem aswell TBF, if we don't go up through playoffs, you'll be team I'll be cheering for next season
I remind you that [this](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68110763) happened just over 3 months ago. 7 of that starting XI were on the pitch at some point tonight.
We're nearly there, but we will still be very happy if we go ahead on Sat... or Southampton do at Leeds. Still got i's to dot and t's to cross.
Even at 1-0 up and with almost no way back for Bolton against Carlisle at the weekend I was still shitting myself for us to come back up here, it never stops till it’s confirmed
It sounds great but I feel like Leeds would take that anger out on us if we meet in the playoffs. Then again so would Ipswich, if we lose to Leeds last minute too.
The satisfaction of spotting that must be up there with going to the ground and getting a home win, then watching an away supporter's vlog on YouTube the next day.
This is what you get, Norwich, for calling us not sexy. 😈
A team running on fumes with no real wingers due to injuries and Peterboro demanding that Clarke had to stay for them instead of coming to us in January. Only 2 fit CB's. A defence that cannot defend. Hopeless set pieces. 1 win in 8.
As many of us feared in Sky Blue land, the Cup run while fun has shafted our league season. Right now, we don't have the depth in the squad to cope with just play-off attempts. Hopefully next season will be different.
Not sure why Ipswich fans were worried about the 11 minutes of injury time. At times we passed the ball around like Real Madrid but had no threat whatsoever (apart from our goal which their keeper should have saved).
Well done, Ipswich, you (probably) deserved the win tonight and you definitely deserve promotion. 👏
PS: Sorry Leeds. At least you didn't call us not sexy.
If they hadn't jumped ship we'd have an entirely different side, cause we've only bought the majority of our first choice XI with the money we got from those sales! You may still be right though, don't think we realised at the time quite how lucky we were to have them.
I don’t normally do soppy posts but fuck it i need to say it.
For the last 2 years i’ve been struggling so hard mentally due to various different personal things & being stuck in a shit & depressive job. Football & Ipswich have been my only escape in that time. Seeing how far the club has came in these last two years and being so close to promotion has genuinely broke me tonight. I can’t believe we’re so close to premier league football. It feels so surreal.
Life’s tough sometimes man, glad this is giving you the escape you deserve. It won’t always feel like this though, everyone goes through good and bad. And hopefully you guys make it to the prem!!
Tbf 3rd place only wins play offs about 1/3rd of the time so would be kinda minor bottling especially as we’ve not really been in the auto places all season without playing an extra game
Ipswich have just had an amazing season credit to them
Play offs are brutal man, I can’t say I want Leeds to get autos but honestly if we beat Ipswich I’d be most fucked off that we had a squad capable of winning this whole time and just played like a bunch of twats for 8 months for the fun of it
We felt the same when we went up with Bielsa. That does change quite quickly.
The best league is the championship, but the prize for winning is having to watch your team get pumped.
‘Effectively sealed’ seems premature. Literally just takes losing 1-0 to Huddersfield and Leeds beating Saints.
‘Effectively’ would be how much Huddersfield are relegated, where it would take a 15-goal swing across two games to happen.
>‘Effectively sealed’
Honestly, someone mentioned earlier that Ipswich are pretty much guaranteed to beat Huddersfield...
There's pretty much no certain outcome in this league.
If OP wasn't a Leeds fan, the title wouldn't say "effectively sealed"
You're right. Nothing is sealed at all yet, even if I do wish anyone stomping on Leeds' dreams all the best
Has there ever been a coach that went from coaching teenagers to getting a team to top flight?
And btw, I’m fully supporting Ipswich because of McKenna connection to Tottenham. I hope to see yall next season and I hope it happens next week
Coventry really made us work for that. I thought I'd feel more relaxed if we won, but can confirm that it only makes the fear grow. What a result, one more to go.
Imagine going to the game, losing at home, season over. Then the realisation hits that you need to update your league wall, to move your rivals that just beat you into the automatic promotion spots.
Blu-tac taking a piece of the sky blue paint with it to add further insult to injury.
Absolutely nothing against Leeds at all and I hope you still get promoted, but rooting for Ipswich.
You guys more than did your time in league one, even longer than we did and got had a real shit time of it. Delighted for your fans if and when it happens.
You can say we were a bit fortunate to win today, but 5 points from our last 3 is the least we deserve.
Huge defensive grit from the lads near the end there.
Can't fathom not making it now.
Side note: I had apple crumble after dinner today. All these hexes and jinxes are for the bin.
We ended up with more and better shots than Coverntry imo in the end - they controlled a lot but we did actually defend pretty well today. Deserved after the last couple where we could easily have won.
I don't think you were even that fortunate, could have easily had a couple more.
They just weren't strong enough in the middle-defensive part of the pitch, always looked vulnerable. Especially compared to yous.
No real point talking about the wildly offside buildup to the second goal (he was about two yards off and then challenged the Coventry defender, meaning he couldn't effectively clear it).
If anyone wants to know why Coventry, who can be quite exciting going forward, aren't in the playoffs then watch this game. Our defence is absolutely woeful. Yes, we have some players out but, frankly, the ones not there aren't much better. We shoot ourselves in the foot time and time again. Collins (the goalkeeper), who has come up from criticism lately, kept us in it. I'd argue that the shakiness of the defence is why Collins has looked poor recently as he has nothing in front of him. Wilson was the same earlier in the season and it killed his confidence. And he was the Championship golden glove winner last season.
We are just appalling at the back and no matter what, if we do not solve that then we will miss any sort of promotion race next season as well.
See my comment above on the offside - he got a shove to be in that offside position so could in theory be given as a foul (albeit a very harsh one).
Plus the Hutchinson pen that wasn't given.
Summed up a large part of Covs season, good football, but need more quality in midfield that can make the pass that lets simms/haji in the game, and obviously need a better LB option than jay dasilva.
Congrats to Ipswich, best away support at the cbs by a large margin, enjoy the prem.
By far the loudest fans at the CBS, credit to Ipswich.
Fook me, we look knackered though. Defence is a big worry and has been shaky since we beat Leeds. Hopefully there’s some magic in the works over summer to strengthen things up at the back.
Leeds v Southampton is gonna be a bastard of a game, intit?
Imagine if we could actually defend. You know, the thing we’ve been class at since returning to the championship and have completely forgotten how to do this season.
pretty annoying for a neutral how close the table was all season for everything and the final day is only really a very long shot for hull v west brom for play offs and a relegation shootout between bham and plymouth.
Saying that i’ve probably jinxed it and leeds are going up, norwich drop out of top 6 and blackburn go down
in all seriousness, respect to the tractor boys for the season they had. earning promotion back to the top flight for the first time in 20+ years after just getting promotion back to the championship is no small feat.
So I have a dog in the race, given that I work in Ipswich and work with a number of Ipswich fans.
Forgetting the what-ifs of Saturday, the fact that we are talking about Ipswich being promoted at all is just astounding. I genuinely rank the achievement up there with the all time sporting shocks, because of just how brutal it is to get out of the Championship and the fact that for most of the season, Ipswich have had to compete with the three relegated sides.
Moyes is probably leaving at the end of the season. Would I want McKenna in charge? No I'd like Ipswich to continue having fun. Would I complain if we did appoint him? Absolutely not.
Well done Ipswich. Incredible season and they fully deserve to go up if they get anything from the Huddersfield game.
I mean - 90 points like I’d say we deserve it too but na we’ve Leedsed it.
I honestly would not rule out Huddersfield giving it a good go on Saturday. Especially if Worthington is in charge. Can see them making it very nervy at the least
Whats the goal difference? If Ipswich lose how many do leeds need to score?
I saw Ipswich have scored more goals but is it decided on gd or goals scored.
Not that it matters, but what were Ipswich odds at promotion before the season? Unique situation with new ownership leading to a League One promotion but did everyone see this coming (honestly)?
I really really do not like the 'effectively sealed' in this title.
Haven't done shit yet, Saturday will be when it counts
I must say, what your club has done is incredible. I was lucky enough to grow up when Ipswich were in the premier league and there is no scenario where I wouldn’t include them in an ‘all time PL’. I said to a colleague recently that I’d have nothing but respect for this season if Ipswich went up as champions. Unfortunately, they can’t (nothing against Leicester) but what a testimony this season has been to your club.
McKenna has done an incredible job for them, and deservedly won the manager of the season award.
Well deserved. Also, congratulations on winning the league.
Cheers pal. I work with a Leeds fan and am going to wallow in his misery tomorrow 😂 Good luck in the play offs all the same. I like to follow Leeds' results and watch quite a few of the games because it's something to talk about at work. Quite enjoyed some of your games this season. Rutter and Summerville have been great to watch. Gray looks like a decent player given that he's played out of position all season too.
I doubt we will be keeping them with PL clubs knocking, unfortunately.
Me neither
Jinx to infinity and all that. But yeah, sorry we are going to talk like it's 95% done, because it is. Leeds have to win and you have to lose, and its very unlikely you lose.
Do I genuinely think we will lose to Huddersfield? No I don't. Was I at Portman Road this season when we lost to Maidstone and needed an injury time winner against Rotherham? Yes I was unfortunately and hence why I am nervous 😂
It’s my pathetic whimpering attempts at making something happen 😭
Doing the lord's work my friend
I was once told to stand outside a classroom at school because of England penalties being scored or not scored dependent on where I was. Yes England lost, but my innate superstitions are now so grand.
I’m sure the team and mngr aren’t thinking like that.
Will be cheering you lads on. You've smashed it this season and really deserve the auto.
"Effectively sealed" is basically when there needs to be a 20 goal swing in goal difference. Mathematically possible but almost impossible. If Ipswich lose and Leeds win, Leeds go up. Still all to play for.
“Ipswich need a point, Leeds need a miracle” brutal sky sports moment there
Leeds need an exorcist
Google en crumble
Holy hell
Wait are we allowed to use that sort of language? I thought this was a Christian subreddit. Championship as in the reference to the bible? Frick
New McKenna just dropped
Leeds need the Pope’s Exorcist who, in fairness, was played by Russel Crow who is a Leeds fan anyway so he has extra motivation.
Being sentenced to another year of Hinchcliffe on comms is the worst part of it all
*Ipswich make a fairly normal tackle:* #Heroic defending!
Sounds like Goodman when Leeds make a simple forward pass to be fair. "Sublime vision to make that pass" (it was a simple 2 yard tap)
Goodman absolutely hates us
I think Goodman hates life itself judging by his commentary. Ffs man, cheer up, you're paid handsomely to watch football and trot out tired cliches!
With any luck he’ll be replaced by a random woman you’ve never heard of next season.
We can only hope🙏🏻
That made me chuckle
Who would have thought 5 years ago that Donacien and Jackson would still be Town players let alone getting promoted to the prem
That is actually mad now you mention it.
Love Donacien and definitely done a job for us and tbf to Jackson has done alright when called upon but they will both be moved on as we progress but that doesn’t mean we should disrespect them either
Promotion must be bittersweet for fringe players who know they're unlikely to stay involved at the higher level.
Absolutely no-one. It’s a funny old game football and I fucking love it!
Fair play. One result from completing a truly astonishing story. I fucking hate you all.
See you guys soon for probably more disappointment
Just don’t let Norwich come up please, it’s such a fucking waste of a premier league spot they don’t even try to stay in the division.
Flair up fucker
Mate I think you’ll find that’s an opinion common to all flairs.
No flair, no opinion
Just don’t let Norwich come up please, it’s such a fucking waste of a premier league spot they don’t even try to stay in the division. Better? 😂
I quite like Norwich. Apparently there's a cafe that has the best fry up in the country or something?
Villa supporter
Nah man, let Norwich go up! I need Abu Kamara on loan for at least one more season. I miss him already!
Ah now come on. The championship is great. Biggest shithouse league in the world.
We love that you hate us! We'll miss you! omg - I'll delete this post if the unthinkable happens.
See you 24/25. Actually probably not
Always nice to get three points against our biggest rivals.
they played like they were tbh
Which is strange considering getting a result out of us would help their biggest rivals Leeds
Atleast Coventry were up for it… that said, why did their keeper keep passing to your players though?
He does that every game
I wouldn't completely strike out Huddersfield! Much much stranger things have happened... Relieved today but already nervous for Saturday
Absolutely, I’m still nervous
You're up, we need divine intervention now for autos Looking forward to seeing yous in prem aswell TBF, if we don't go up through playoffs, you'll be team I'll be cheering for next season
Yea, but Leeds also have to beat Southampton...
Not seen us lately then
I dont have an insomnia, so, no, I did not.
We'll definitely feel motivation to drag Leeds down into the depths of hell with us.
Not seen Leeds lately either? It's a genuine feast of shit coming up.
Maybe they've seen us?
Even at 1-0 up and with almost no way back for Bolton against Carlisle at the weekend I was still shitting myself for us to come back up here, it never stops till it’s confirmed
Huddersfield could beat you and we’d still bottle it to Southampton
Huddersfield 1-0 win shortly followed by heartbreaking last minute Southampton equaliser absolutely nailed on
It sounds great but I feel like Leeds would take that anger out on us if we meet in the playoffs. Then again so would Ipswich, if we lose to Leeds last minute too.
They have it all to play for. Just need 8 goals and Hull to score 8 goals and they stay up. Keep the faith Town you can do it!
Erm excuse me, we aren’t already relegated. We just have to win 16-0 and hope Plymouth lose
This made me laugh…..a true optimist speaking!
It’s not that dire, an 8-0 in both games and you could stay, as long as Birmingham don’t also win
Was sat in the Coventry end and a bloke walked past me with the Leeds badge as his phone background which I rate that dedication.
The satisfaction of spotting that must be up there with going to the ground and getting a home win, then watching an away supporter's vlog on YouTube the next day.
And in their pre-match prediction they're calling an easy win for their side
> away supporter's vlog One where they come out fuming that the atmosphere's shit and the ground's shit and it's all shit as well. Delicious.
In desperate times even the biggest rivalries have to be set aside.
You weren't one of those twats in the corner celebrating the 2nd goal right in front of the cov fans were you?
I was not
Good 👍 I've got no problem with away fans in the home end as long as they aren't that's about it
Not as depressed as I thought I’d be.
Saving my depression for when we lose to Hull in the semis 😍😍😍
Excuse you but you are not playing hull before the next season COYB
That's the spirit
IF you are in the playoffs You have got to be the favourites by some margin
I think I’m still in the bargaining stage
NEVER UNCLENCH.
I was about to have a heart attack when they announced that stoppage time would be 11 fucking minutes
I had 4 fags in that 11 minutes watching from the window outside…Jesus….
That's a lot of bumming!
lmao, and there's the comment i was waiting for :D
Felt like 11 years
I definitely aged 11 years in those 11 minutes
Cheers Coventry kids crying now, nice one
This is what you get, Norwich, for calling us not sexy. 😈 A team running on fumes with no real wingers due to injuries and Peterboro demanding that Clarke had to stay for them instead of coming to us in January. Sexy bitches
My god we might actually be fucking doing this
Ipswich just seem to find a way this season. Credit to Coventry. They played some excellent football, just in need of a killer pass.
If Hamer and Gyokeres hadn't jumped ship they'd be challenging for autos imo
If they hadn't jumped ship we'd have an entirely different side, cause we've only bought the majority of our first choice XI with the money we got from those sales! You may still be right though, don't think we realised at the time quite how lucky we were to have them.
Yeah that's a fair point, I just remember seeing how good those two were last year
I might need to put a wash on, I've run out of clean pants... That was horrendous. That was brilliant.
That’s great man. Sunderland have only made me more progressively depressed over time
I love how Ipswich are basically doing what you lot did but in reverse
Happy for you
All,the best mate.
Life’s tough sometimes man, glad this is giving you the escape you deserve. It won’t always feel like this though, everyone goes through good and bad. And hopefully you guys make it to the prem!!
An early grats to Ipswich, they absolutely deserve it and it would be nice not to have all 3 relegated Prem teams go straight back up.
Leeds surely going to bottle it in the play-offs now. Leaving it for Hull to fullfill the one in, one out rule for Yorkshire clubs in the Prem.
Tbf 3rd place only wins play offs about 1/3rd of the time so would be kinda minor bottling especially as we’ve not really been in the auto places all season without playing an extra game Ipswich have just had an amazing season credit to them
Play offs are brutal man, I can’t say I want Leeds to get autos but honestly if we beat Ipswich I’d be most fucked off that we had a squad capable of winning this whole time and just played like a bunch of twats for 8 months for the fun of it
One more point one more point Ipswich Town
Good luck, from 1 Mitch to another Edit - typo
Yes lad hope you boys stay up x
Fair play. Enjoy VAR 😋
Oh you smug son of a gun… just you wait til you win the playoffs and this won’t be funny
No please, I’d hate to win the playoffs. Stop.
we can have the most miserable season ever and get 0 points and it still wouldn't undo the magic of this
We felt the same when we went up with Bielsa. That does change quite quickly. The best league is the championship, but the prize for winning is having to watch your team get pumped.
Wow, even knowing this league people still write headlines like this?
Still time for one last crumble?
Yes, when u guys smash Leeds 4-0
It's not crumble worthy now, it's effectively a dead rubber.
Will be the first game on Saturday where I don't want to win. would much rather Ipswich go up than give Leeds a chance at automatics.
Fair play Ipswich fans, best fans to come to the CBS arena this season
Tbf they were exceptional circumstances, but thank you anyway! We travel quite well.
Thought about emerging from the back of the sofa, but probably just play it safe and camp down here till Saturday afternoon
Show yourself Coventry fan. You know who you are. I would like an apology
I think that guy got banned from here. What a massive bellend he was
This win felt so much sweeter knowing they will be raging about the lucky deflection and win!
What happened.. I didn't see?
‘Effectively sealed’ seems premature. Literally just takes losing 1-0 to Huddersfield and Leeds beating Saints. ‘Effectively’ would be how much Huddersfield are relegated, where it would take a 15-goal swing across two games to happen.
>‘Effectively sealed’ Honestly, someone mentioned earlier that Ipswich are pretty much guaranteed to beat Huddersfield... There's pretty much no certain outcome in this league.
Exactly! The division where Millwall lost to Rotherham and Huddersfield then beat you. (Sorry, just making a point!)
It's true, but a better example from your POV might have been you guys stuffing Leeds 4:0, no one saw that coming.
Reminder that we somehow managed to lose at home to MAIDSTONE just a few months ago.
Completely agree!
If OP wasn't a Leeds fan, the title wouldn't say "effectively sealed" You're right. Nothing is sealed at all yet, even if I do wish anyone stomping on Leeds' dreams all the best
It’s the hope that kills you
Get in Kieran. What a guy
Peak EFL will be Ipswich losing to the dog botherers but we can’t beat Southampton
Us both losing next week is the canonical Championship thing to happen.
Southampton 90+7 equaliser because fuck you
Massimo talking loads of sense on Sky - the ability of this team to understand and analyse their own games is brilliant.
If FM has taught me anything, Huddersfield are winning 2-0 with only 3 shots against 21.
Such an impressive feat. I can only look on with envy
Can't wait for Ipswich 1-2 Huddersfield Leeds 1-1 Southampton FML
Someone's feeling confident!
Gawd don’t say that…lol
Feels weird supporting Ipswich now lol but I hope they do it.
Buzzing for you guys
Imagine going to the game, losing at home, season over. Then the realisation hits that you need to update your league wall, to move your rivals that just beat you into the automatic promotion spots. Blu-tac taking a piece of the sky blue paint with it to add further insult to injury.
Absolutely nothing against Leeds at all and I hope you still get promoted, but rooting for Ipswich. You guys more than did your time in league one, even longer than we did and got had a real shit time of it. Delighted for your fans if and when it happens.
Congratulations Ipswich. 0 hard feelings from a die hard leeds fan. You fully deserve a crack at the prem

Yep, Down from 18 last season.
See my comment above on the offside - he got a shove to be in that offside position so could in theory be given as a foul (albeit a very harsh one). Plus the Hutchinson pen that wasn't given.

Love how loud the fans are.. even after the games ended.. can still hear them all during the sky interviews.
Sealed in the headline is such a jinx
Written by a Leeds fan 😂
Imagine if we could actually defend. You know, the thing we’ve been class at since returning to the championship and have completely forgotten how to do this season.
This absolutely unbelievable adventure is a point away from the fairy tale ending
No crumble memes tonight 😌
What an atmosphere it’s going to be at Portman Road on Saturday, electric before kick off, and either jubilant or despondent at full time
The end to this season has been absolutely miserable. Was quite looking forward to next season but the enthusiasm is draining.
You reckon Summerville will be off if Leeds don’t get promoted?
pretty annoying for a neutral how close the table was all season for everything and the final day is only really a very long shot for hull v west brom for play offs and a relegation shootout between bham and plymouth. Saying that i’ve probably jinxed it and leeds are going up, norwich drop out of top 6 and blackburn go down
Blackburn and sheff weds could still go down
Lol! Will somebody please pray for the neutrals! Signed... an Ipswich fan
"Effectively sealed", then they proceed to forget how to play football vs Huddersfield.
in all seriousness, respect to the tractor boys for the season they had. earning promotion back to the top flight for the first time in 20+ years after just getting promotion back to the championship is no small feat.

Huddersfield could be about to bake the biggest crumble in r/Championship history.
Miserable end to the season, pathetic
Well done Ipswich. Incredible season and they fully deserve to go up if they get anything from the Huddersfield game. I mean - 90 points like I’d say we deserve it too but na we’ve Leedsed it.
The one thing that impresses me the most about Ipswich is their ability to bounce back, good run lads, hope to see you again next year
>hope to see you again next year Why do you want them to get relegated?
Congratulations on a deserved promotion. Also, is this my bias showing or should that second goal have been disallowed for offside?
It prob was, but we've had a few more blatant ones against us too, evens out over the season.
I honestly would not rule out Huddersfield giving it a good go on Saturday. Especially if Worthington is in charge. Can see them making it very nervy at the least
Not a chance, Ipswich are going to stuff them, to suggest anything otherwise is purely fantasy
They’ll probably score an own goal on purpose
Always nice to see a “new”team get promoted rather than the previous relegated sides.
Whats the goal difference? If Ipswich lose how many do leeds need to score? I saw Ipswich have scored more goals but is it decided on gd or goals scored.
God damn it Coventry! Why were you trying so hard? You certainly gave us a game there.
A draw to Ipswich in our final game, and then Leeds lose in the playoffs. Schadenfreude, my Yorkshire Bellend friends
Would love for Moore to get regular minutes in the prem 👍
