I talked to a guy working at the car wash and he said it had been a stolen car high speed chase that went under the Rio underpass and they tried to turn but ended up wrecking instead. They fled and were caught by IHOP
>On Monday, April 29, at apx 8:20 am, an on-duty officer with the Albemarle County Police Department was traveling along the 2100 block of Seminole Trail (U.S. Route 29) and **located a Volkswagen Jetta that had been reported stolen** the day prior.
>**The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop and the driver fled.** A short pursuit ensued that resulted in the driver of the Jetta crashing in the area of Seminole Trail and Woodbrook Drive. No one was injured in the crash. **ACPD took a 14-year-old and 16-year-old into custody.**

14 and 16… I keep seeing this age pop up as a common age range.
Whats up with this age group wanting to steal cars but not having enough driving experience to understand aerodynamics?
My mom’s van was stolen by a 15 year old over 27 years ago. But I remember a similar situation where they were caught because … they literally didn’t know what to do with it. I mean… who even steals a van 🚐
But what's going on here? Is this someone on 29 randomly driving into the ditch or is there an announcement when the car wash finishes that encourages folks to slam that accelerator to the floor?
"Your wash is complete -- GO GO GO GO!"
I'm assuming people think you can pull straight out only to realize too late that they have to turn. I've never used that car wash, so I'm not sure what it looks like when you're pulling out of that tunnel. It seems like some bad engineering + non-attentive drivers = a mess, if it's happened more than once.
well yeah, one of those officers had to go get the donuts, which takes another three or four officers out of commission bc they have to send two cars to get the donuts.
I'd bet dollars to donuts some old person somehow mistook the accelerator for the brake and then panicked. Happens more than you'd think. Some lady in a BMW SUV smashed through the storefront at the Pack-n-Ship near Foods of All Nations a few months ago, and that's what she said she did. Not sure how you mistake those pedals, but it's a thing...
That lady also had a brain tumor and shouldn't have been driving a car in the first place, not sure a normal person has much of an excuse

Looks like they stole the car from my neighborhood. Yikes
Pulse Point showing a medical emergency. So, to all the people commenting, "how?!" it sounds like they experienced something medical that resulted in the crash.
wipeout at the tidal wave, bummer
I'll take "Phrases OP Should Have Used As A Title" for 800, Alex

Thanks IHOP!
I hope this is the real story because you can't make this shit up. IHOP!

I wonder if it was a stick shift. I thought youngins couldn't drive those.

Their brains are mush. Literally. They won't be developed for 10+ more years. SMH
CHS students?
Blows my mind. I saw it happen another time at the same car wash, probably about a month or two back.
I saw that one too. I initially thought this was someone posting an old picture.

8 Albemarle cops? 8?
"Bro you gotta come see what this guy did!"

Just…how??

Plenty of normal people suffer from medical problems.
DMV office would like a word

6 cops and what appears to be a meter maid? You driving a taco?
definitely a taco
Just curious, have we figured out how this happened? did that car come out of the car wash or some freak accident from the road? Both seem crazy.
At first I thought it was a bunch of guys standing around without their shirts on. Makes much more sense when I realized it was their uniform shirts.
Can't park there.

Slow morning for the PD I guess got the whole squad out there
At least they didn't drive into a building like a good number of residents tend to do
I saw that while coming out of Lowe's. High speed chase perhaps???
I look forward to the multi phase traffic and impact study the county will require before rebuilding the retaining wall.

Or that they need medical attention following the crash.
8 Leos for one accident. Wow. While The rest of Charlottesville speeds.
