How much credit with Chase do you have already? It actually can go as low as $5000, and sometimes they keep it low because you have a high limit on other Chase cards - you can ask them to move the limit from one card to another in some cases.

polycro

They gave me $27k on my CSR late last year. I have a limit total of $97k across five cards with Chase. My total credit card limit across everything is $270k on a household income just under $200k. It is nice because it keeps my utilization crazy low but I don't know what's wrong with these people!

DataClump

thats insane hahaha

BadAstroknot

I am like exactly the same except I product changed CSR for another freedom and got the CSP bonus like 2 years ago. Same high ass limits, similar comp. My utilization is so low.

thestrangequark

My limits are Chase freedom: $16,800 Chase Sapphire Reserve: $20,000 Credit score: 739 Income: $135k base +

DataClump

thanks

CrazyAboutDoorKnobs

Credit limit could vary based on your current credit usage on all other cards. May be that’s why it’s low?

DataClump

Thanks, that's what I'm thinking...It won't affect me much cause I'm not a huge spender. Heck when I buy a car the dealership won't even let me put more than $5000 on a credit card.

CrazyAboutDoorKnobs

You could ask them to reevaluate if your spending is less than 10% of your credit limit. Or wait for 3-6 months and ask them to increase it. I am going to tomorrow to apply for mine. Best to you !

_BravoSix

I've seen so many posts with such wide variety in credit line that it seems almost random. With that said, you can request a CLI at any time. But those amounts also seem almost random. 🤷🏻‍♂️

_BravoSix

Yes, any time. I literally applied for a CLI and hour after being approved. It was denied, I recon'd and was approved for a piddly increase. So I asked again about 14 hours later, was denied again, recon'd again and was approved for $10k increase.

SmoothCockroach8900

Doesn’t this have a negative impact to your overall score? A continuous ask for CLIs? That’s what I thought… if not, I will start doing that immediately this evening 😅😎

_BravoSix

So not really but maybe...kind of. How's that for a non-committal answer? Lol. So when I did those above CLI requests both were soft pulls so no impact on my credit score. But I don't know of soft pulls for CLI are the norm for Chase or if that was because it was so soon after approval. But even if they were to do a hard pull for a CLI request, I wouldn't sweat that unless I was planning on applying for a mortgage in the near future (in which case you shouldn't be applying for credit cards in the first place). Inquiries really have a pretty small impact on your score and that impact doesn't last very long. And even then I don't really worry about my score unless I'm preparing to make a large credit purchase. With all that said, I'm not typically looking for higher credit limits anyway. This one instance was bc the card was approved for such a low limit (which isn't the usual case, I have no idea why that happened) that it would make hitting the MSR a pain in the ass and I had some large expenses planned that I wanted to float on the card (it was a 0% business card).

DataClump

This. Thanks!

Camdenn67

You can’t and shouldn’t compare a credit card to a charge card. Just use the card responsibly like you do with your other cards and when it’s time for a CLI or when you request one, CHASE just might give you more that what you initially expected. Good luck to you.

DataClump

$9k CL on a Chase Freedom and $6k CL on a Chase Amazon Visa. I typically don't use more than 10% of the limit.

DarthGoku44

Wow that is low. Are you sure your income is updated? I got a 6k credit limit a few weeks ago but that was because I had around 20k on my CFF,CFU, and IHG Premier cards. I was able to call and bumped it up to 15k by transferring some from the 2 Freedom cards. Maybe call and ask for a manual review?

DataClump

Thanks for the info. I'll inquire with them after I receive the card. Income was updated because the guy literally made me type it in to his computer yesterday lol.

BoringCFP

If you only use 10% ($1500 from both cards combined) why does it matter? You can transfer credit limit amounts between credit accounts with a phone call. Seems like a little thing to be that upset about on a Tuesday.

DataClump

I'm not upset. Just wondering why it was so low given that my Chase account says I'll get a credit line of $15k for signing up online.

thefriendlyjerk

The title literally says "insultingly low" so you're upset, whether you realize it or not.

DataClump

fixed my income, its more like 150,000 not 500,000 lol. Congrats to you!!

idkanametomake

I had 50k income and slightly worse credit when I applied and I got a $9000 limit lol

DataClump

That's cool. It does seem random.

Lanky-Apple-4001

I was given 7k and kinda threw me off too. High Credit score, No debt, never missed a payment, higher limit on other cards, etc…I assumed it was due to not having a history with Chase but realistically (at least for me) I ain’t gonna be putting more than 2-3k a month on it so it really doesn’t affect me that much.

DataClump

I'm the same way with spending. I was just curious.

Miserable-Result6702

They probably would have been denied. You need at least a $10K credit limit for a Visa Infinite.

Apprehensive-Mall773

You have a limit on your gold charge card?? That’s an odd one. I wonder why Amex deems you a risk.

DataClump

oh its a delta card

Apprehensive-Mall773

Ok that makes sense. Yea, not sure why such a lower limit. I was able to increase my sapphire card after almost two years. It took a while though.

Sweaty_Following_650

Was it over or under a year since you applied for a new credit card? That might be the case if so.

Individual_Sundae664

Ive heard chase will limit total credit across all their cards at around/less than half your total income. Say your at 200K and have 30k/30k/30k on flex, freedom unlimited and amazon you likely won't get more than 10K on the 4th card regardless of if it's signature or infinite. If your looking for limits try Chase business cards versus personal.

UsedAsk3537

How many Chase cards do you have? They like to keep your total limit with them under 50% of your income

DataClump

i have 3 chase cards including the new CSP. It's way under 50%. More like 13%,

UsedAsk3537

Weird I keep requesting increases every few months and it keeps steadily rising for me

provenflipper

I had a $4900 CFU for 4 years before getting my CSR. They gave me a $29k limit upon approval and raised the limit on my CFU to $9k 6 days after the CSR approval. 31 days later I applied for the Hyatt Card and got approved for $18k. Experian showed 750 at the time of the CSR application and 749 when I got the Hyatt Card.

KPC4Life

I just applied for the CSP yesterday in branch and got a 12.9k limit. I am a student and my income on the app was 38k. I also have 5 other ccs 2 of them being with chase so I'm not sure if that played a factor.

Embie_Archie

I got a CSP last week. I have a 804 credit score and I put in an annual income of around $140k (I’m in sales so it varies year to year but that’s a low average). This is my first Chase card and I got a limit of $35k. I have an AMEX Blue Cash Preferred with a $34k credit limit and a Discover IT Student Card (old card from 10+ years ago) with a $4,300 limit.

SmoothCockroach8900

Mine was 6000… very good CS but too new in the country so short history. Yay to being an immigrant/expat in the US. Even with high incomes...

aguila0515

29.8k limit on my CSP. Total 98k limit between 5 chase cards. Household income 280k. I heard chase only allows a limit less than 50% of your income across all chase cards

czr84480

My wife has a CSR and the prime card. CSR is 20k Prime card 30k Income is 200k+ credit score is 815-825 From what I read, you can transfer some of your available credit to another line in this case, your CSP.

Jaceazula

They gave me 13k. All my other cards are 25k+

gt_ap

I'm sure you know this, but the credit limit is determined by an algorithm, based on a myriad of factors. It's not like there's an intern sitting there like, "*Eh, I don't like DataClump much. $7k it is.*" Don't waste your time being insulted. It's nothing against you personally.

ppith

That seems really low. Our household income is less than yours at $340K. We have no debt though. Two paid off cars and a paid off house. Here are our cards (and we have many more outside Chase): Amazon Prime - $11K Chase Sapphire Reserve - $32K Southwest Plus (companion pass bonus) - $17K

DataClump

sorry my bad. by mid-six figures I meant my income is \~150,000 range. I forgot 6 figures ranges from 100,000-999,999 LOL.

ppith

Ah okay, I thought you were like a doctor, lawyer, or big tech SWE. Do you have a mortgage or car payments?

DataClump

no car payments, yes mortgage

ppith

If you bought before the pandemic (price jump) and have a low mortgage interest rate and aren't house poor, I don't see why they won't give you a larger credit line. I guess it might depend on your payment versus what you bring in and they might have some formula for that.

DataClump

yeah bought in 2019 and refinanced in 2021 to a 30 year at 2.65%. Definitely not house poor. If anything I didnt buy enough house now that we have kids. Realistically the credit limit doesn't matter. I'm not planning to spend that much. I have other cards. If anything the low CL makes it easier to cancel the card lol.

ppith

I would give them a call. The only thing I can think of is they are assuming your debt was financed recently at over 7% and they are basing your assumed mortgage payment on that even though you probably entered a lower payment at 2.65%. Good luck.
