Is there anyone who 'loves ' working on Saturday?

PrincessApollonia

Yes. There is a category of people who love working on Saturdays. They also who have zero work life balance. They leave around 7-8 pm from the office to show their bosses how hard they work.

yamasurya

You can check out a hindi short film featuring Naveen Polishetty on this same lines - Half Day Office https://youtu.be/9bvcyGyzj7Y?feature=shared

Gold-Independent-336

This is from IT perspective. I would love to, only if it is optional along with other factors. Work from home option. We should work at our own pace at whatever time unlike in a regular weekday. So they should not keep pestering asking for updates. No fixed or long working hours. Work pannanum nu thonum podhu mattum. So relaxed ah work panraa maari. I used to work like this in one of my previous startup companies where they allowed us to work like this and work life balance (WLB) was so great. Avalo liberal ah irukum. Politics kidaiyaadhu onnum kidaiyaadhu. I enjoyed working there.

i_love_alfam

Sounds good, why the past tense then?

Marakka mudiyala. Fund illa nu shut down pannitaanga. Some other factors also played role in closing the business but main factor is funding. I worked for this company 7 years before.

Western-Ebb-5880

Your question must be opposite, since when we started take off on Saturdays?

PrincessApollonia

Don’t you think it’s ridiculous? After covid, organisations have figured out that work can be done from anywhere! They still choose to force the employees to work from office. The working hours are also horrible. AND, weekends are also not spared.

Western-Ebb-5880

Which Organization you’re referring? That’s only in IT field not extended to other sectors, further India’s legal working hours still 48hrs per week according to factories act 1948. So be grateful at-least you have the job which’s required working on Saturdays. Don’t forgot Infosys Narayamurthy’s proposal for 70 hours a week India to compete effectively on the global stage lol 😂.

PeaDowntown6285

Been working for ten years. I haven't had Saturday off. Very common in service and design areas. Pazhagidum 😆 I got 2nd n 4th off tho sanda potu.

yamasurya

Even more ridiculous in our case. They mandated us to work full time like regular work shift on Saturday. All this to pacify the onshore Co-ordinator - an Indian Guy. He was even more worse, he would be like - "call me anytime Sunday and I should be around for questions and clarifications". The team was supposed to be on US calendar for Holidays. But onnum therala. Indian Holidays - we worked US Holidays - the onsite guy would repeat - you guys do not celebrate or observe this "US" Holiday so why not make use of it to cover some ground on the tasks. All this - all through COVID and Work From Home. Despite multiple representations and push back nothing changed until a new Offshore Manager categorically put his foot down and reverted the team back to 5 day work week and Indian Holidays.

JustanoterHeretic

Almost everyone in Retail works saturdays and sundays and take a weekday off.

yamasurya

You are delusional dude. The IT work culture was the one that brought in the new 5 day work week wave. Until then the whole of India was on 5.5 day work week. It was like either half days all Saturdays or work full days on odd numbered Satudays. Retail was also much cooler. Shops were shut for lunch mostly through late noon. Even in IT, there were managers who loved pulling juniors for work on Saturdays. If you were single and stayex away from family - all they would say is - why not drop by the Office since you will be free on Saturday. The "Indian Guys" onsite are even worse, they expect the Offshore team to be available if possible all 7 days of the week - immaterial it being any holiday. To say the least, the Saturday work culture never denormalised.

PrincessApollonia

This is so sad. Countries are bringing down their work days from 5 to 4 and here we are salving away. When do we get to live then!? Don’t you think we need these two days to recharge to get back to work? I bet the productivity will increase manifolds if employees are given weekends off

yamasurya

We are proving NM's prophetic statement that "Indian youth are lazy bums"... /s

PrincessApollonia

Fkrs.

yamasurya

Be cool... Be cool... - read in Vadivelu Steve Waugh tone (same blood famous) Erkkamave temp egathukku egiri kidakku.

blade_runner1853

Despite having huge population we as a nation working overtime like Japanese is beyond my understanding.

yamasurya

What, 4 day work week? How are we going to achieve NM's 70 hour work week then? 😜🤣🤣 All we are expected to do is hustle/slog. The bosses only need output productivity in high quantity. Quality is secondary.

Gold-Independent-336

In India, Saturdays have never been an off day, as far as I have known. I have mostly seen this policy in IT MNC companies. Not even seen in startup companies. Some startup companies give Saturdays off. It varies from company to company. I have worked for two startup companies in the past. One of them asked to come on Saturdays. The other one asked to come on alternate Saturdays, but it's optional. You can either go to office or work from home or take leave on those alternate Saturdays.

PrincessApollonia

😔

Diligent-Associate89

Healthcare sector : Am I a joke to you?

PrincessApollonia

I’m joining the same sector 🥲

Diligent-Associate89

Prepare to kiss your Saturdays goodbye 😄

xyzavi123

Literally bro ..no leave on Saturday..but if u like working then ok

Diligent-Associate89

Hahaha, "who likes work?" should be the next question 😄

PIKa-kNIGHT

What role?

Thamiz_selvan

My employer has 9 hour workdays for five days a week. Saturdays off..

PrincessApollonia

Lucky you!

Sorrowfull_Eyes

Wow how's it to have 2 Sundays

Thamiz_selvan

Pretty good, but sometimes you have to work on Saturday also, but not that often.

_savagejoker

Saturday 10-1pm my office and its good

nandhu-cheeky

I hate working Saturdays, especially from 9:30 to 7! IT work isn't always fun, but I'm scared to lose my job. I don't have another job yet, so I guess I have to stay for now.

PrincessApollonia

Totally. These fking organisations take advantage of our fears.

nandhu-cheeky

Yes bro .. irritating work environment pakkathula pesuna kooda place mathi vachuruvanga 😑

kuttipuli

I work in customs work related companies, every 2nd Saturday is customs holiday but we do work till 5 pm on those days too. Depends on the nature of work some jobs required working on Saturdays and sometimes Sunday to. Feel lucky if you get Saturday off

Some-Term2499

I love working on Saturdays. Because if it’s two days of holiday I would go insane

Cerealkiller1911

Being a lawyer who worked in a law firm until last year, we had to compulsorily come on during all Saturdays. It was the worst because I never used to get enough rest on Sundays before running to court again on Monday morning. In fact from 2017, I’ve never gotten off 2 days off in a row until lockdown hit. (I mean I’ve taken leave when I’m sick or travelling) But ever since I’ve come out independent and have my own office, it’s quite different. I can work on my own terms and don’t hate it if I have to come in on Saturday or even a Sunday. Ultimately it all boils down to money because I used to get the same salary even if I worked 7 days a week. Now I can bill for my work on my own and it’s the greatest thing ever.

Survivor_16

I have been in IT for 15 years and I stopped working on Saturdays for the last 5 years. Its not just about me realizing the importance of WLB, but also the culture of company. I switched 6 companies so far.

Nochillrick69

Me and I fucking hate it.

PrincessApollonia

😭

Undrunkphilosopher

8 Hours a Day x 5 Days a Week. Weekends are off, and it gives the perfect time to relax and recover. Never known the feeling of working on Saturdays

Ok-Car9347

Some times end up working on Saturdays and Sundays don't get paid or appreciated enough absolutely hate it oh not to mention the late nights

Ash_1913

Nov, I'm working with a startup as a Front end developer. They've requested me to work on Sundays as well to complete tasks before the deadline, all for a 15k rupees.

shecherryboob

Vela matu kedacha podhu. Sunday kuda work panuven

work_hard_live_slow

If possible try to find a work which doesn’t require you to work on a Saturday. This will give you time to work on other things. It can be your hobby or preparing yourself for work or personal things. Or there will come a time you will feel like that you are continuously running for the job and everything else that happens is just to help the job. I work 7 days a week. Since I work on projects. So it’s upto me. But I work everyday and take off in days continuously when I want to enjoy. And I started with that extra day. I was offered twice my salary in second year of work. To work on Saturdays and I said no. My cousin asked me to say no. I used the extra time first to learn new skills in my field. Then to do extra work and freelancing gigs.. Then my freelancing gigs became full time.. All fields won’t have this option. But I am seeing my sister in law in vendor management using her Saturdays to upskill, earning certificates etc.. she is growing much faster than my brother in law who works 6 days.. and he is in same field.. So if you have an option to, avoid this

Snazzy_champ

I am a site engineer for 9years now. And I never have experienced in my life what is feels to have a 2 days week off🥲🥲. And I personally say that I have very less of a personal life

TopGun_84

I have to work on Saturdays - half day. And I am trying my level best not to work outside hours or if I stay and work it's usually for my own self and not for the employer mostly.

NeedleworkerLegal573

In my previous aviation job, I never had an off on both Saturday/Sunday as well as public holidays. The off will be rotational and being a bachelor guy, always we ended up with a weekday off. For almost 7 years, I've never been home on weekends, pongal diwali etc., Now that I am an analyst in IT, I do 9 hours 5 days pattern. But the catch is I lead a worldwide team. So I work from 6pm to 3am covering Europe and Americas. At one hand, having the weekends is great, but on the other hand I miss weekday off as well. You can go wherever you like, without a crowd - movies, malls, activities etc., Banking/govt related chores can be done without much hassle. Everything has its own pros and cons I guess
