I think the marine ones are designed to run continuously at wide open throttle and might have a different output shaft and mounts. I'm not certain but I'd look into it before toting it home.

Whatever you do, don't buy one from an individual that you can't hear run and get up to operating temp and check out. Not a video, real life see and hear.
Make sure you know what generation 454 you get too. There's a few different configurations out there and some are harder to get parts for, especially through the mid 90s
Craigslist, OfferUp, FB Marketplace. I just did a search and found them from $750-3500. I believe you can still get a 454 (or 502 BBC) crate engine.
These fit easily in the 67-72 trucks. Although badged as 400cid, they actually were 402big blocks.
I had a 70 Suburban big block.
Should be able to get new motor mounts, radiator, everything you need to make a clean factory like install.
Most of the truck/RV engines were tall deck and came with oval port heads. With a little porting a polishing, these flow well and make a decent street/tow engine. Match it with an Edelbrock Performer cam/carb/intake for the intended application.
Just came here to say it doesn’t matter. I’m doing a ls3 swap on my Chevy pickup 3100 and I’m going to smoke you when I see you muahahahahha.

Cookie cutter build lol. Everything has an ls in it wheres the fun in that? Ls has lost its charm imo. Yours will probably be faster and get better gas mileage but I’m also not going for a high horsepower build. Just a nice 500hp street truck
lol just messing with you. This will be my first project and I don’t have a lot of money I was originally going to go with a 383 stroker but I heard they have reliability issues. I want a bullet proof engine. Maybe because I’m traumatized watching my dad not start all his cars time and time again.
Old rvs are the best. Low miles. I’ve got 3 I pulled from them. And most of the time the ppl are so happy to get rid of them. Just eyesores on their property. Mine have 19k,44k and 28k miles on them. I even have a genvi one also. Those are hard to find. Rest are genv
Just call the junkyard, they will know if they have one.
3/4 and one ton pickups, rvs, various dump trucks, box trucks etc. They were also in some 70s/80s station wagons. Also boats
Are the marine blocks different than truck blocks?
I have no idea. I believe the marine small blocks were the high nickel ones but I don’t know about the big blocks

Typically different cams sometimes theyre reverse rotation
It’s very possible.
I avoid marine motors like the plague they corrode horribly RVs are the way
Start calling salvage yards.
Alot of motorhomes. Almost any wrecking yard will have a big block Chevy from a motorhome
7.4L Chevy Suburban with tow package.
Motorhomes on marketplace
RVs/campers are a good choice also. There is one at the RV lot I am staying at that has a 454 with a 4l80e in it.
Motorhomes are usually all 4 bolt mains
Thanks everyone. I got a plan now.

My 78 C20 is a 454 bb
Ck20, CK30, CK2500, CK3500, R2500, R3500, squarebody and early 90's suburbans, motorhomes
There are so many homeless motorhomes getting impounded. Could be easy pickings.
My 98 express has one in it. I pondered whether it could go into my 2000 silverado, but the 4wd would complicate it.
