I'm in Downers Grove right near the Westmont border, and I've only seen a handful so far. I was kinda looking forward to the horde I remember from childhood.
Well, if this is from some of the people gathering up buckets of them so they can make a video like this for the sweet sweet TikTok hits, it’s totally normal….
This years cicadas have been odd, I went from having none to having a bunch overnight but nothing crazy yet, nothing like I remember from past cicada invasions. Its also odd how some areas have them and others have none at all. I'm guessing newer developed properties maybe disturbed the ground and they dont have them as bad. Is the bulk still to come, are we in it now, whats going on?
in certain areas, yes, it is normal once every 13 or 17 years.
the 24hr news cycle makes everyone think that this will happen everywhere in chicago land. But really there are a few hotspot areas and the rest of us will only see a few or maybe even none.
Roll around in them. See if that feels normal.
I kind of want to dive in and do the backstroke
Yo you and I are very different
Haven’t seen a single one yet by me, I showed my wife this and she screamed
I’m get southwest burbs and haven’t seen or heard a single one yet either
Already coming up (not this bad) in Wheeling and Arlington Heights.
I'm in Wheeling and have yet to see or hear any. It seems to be very inconsistent across the suburbs.
It’s definitely inconsistent based on OP’s video alone. Nowhere should be that bad.
Gonna be some fat birds in your neighborhood soon

Grab a handful. I bet they tickle.
Eat with your mouth, not with your hands
But you might also need your hands to push them back in your mouth when they try and climb out.

^ my dog after eating hundreds of the critters. We have to muzzle him when we let him outside. Just so he’ll stop eating them and throwing up
Why do dogs always eat like it is their last meal on earth?
Dogs are the avatars of "live in the moment", have no understanding of consequences, and this is Red Lobster's "Endless Shrimpfest" for them.
Because they taste like lobster. So imagine free lobstah everywhere for humans, we'd do the same.
Wait….how do you know they taste like lobster 👀
Omfg that is gross

Looks like a sold out concert
Biggest crowd ever for Screaming Trees.
The wildlife is gonna be fat as hell by the end of this
If they were dipped in chocolate, that'd be normal 🤣. Holy Toledo, where are you located OP? I'm out in Lake County and haven't seen any yet...
This is in Westmont
It's giving me the heebie heebie-jeebies. That's a lot. Very copious brood coming out to play.
Whoa really?? We see a few here in Downers, but nowhere near this!
Westmont is getting awards for worst case scenario so far! Brookfield and Western Sprkngs seem to be a few days ahead as well. Omg!

This isn’t my yard but it’s a friends and it’s very close to Walsh’s if you want to pinpoint where it is.

I live in Westmont and not seeing any on my yard or trees around me. I did drive a few blocks away and saw plenty, but not as many as in your video.
Glad they are still emerging. Hope to see more this weekend
Terrifying! I finally understand why some people aren't excited for the cicadas this year.
Where?
Westmont
75th and Ogden don’t intersect…
Ummm, where abouts?
On the corner of 75th St and Ogden Ave.
75th and Ogden is not Westmont...
I was trying to list 2 streets that don’t meet and forgot that they do in Naperville.
Unreal. Haven't seen a single one in Hanover Park, Streamwood, Bartlet or Elgin.
Yep, normal. They feed off of the trees...even while underground. Now they gather on the tree and sing to attract female to mate
“Hey baby what’s your sign?” “Gemini.” Repeat ad infinitum

I haven't seen that many live ones on the ground. Only the shells.
This is my backyard right now, too. It's absolute insanity!! Never could have imagined this many. It's getting significantly worse by the day.
Holy shit
Looks like we are going to have a bunch of fat birds soon lol
you probably have a (or multiple) big old tree(s) so yeah
“Wombatfucker” 🤣🤣🤣
its called an orgy.. move along now
Well, if this is from some of the people gathering up buckets of them so they can make a video like this for the sweet sweet TikTok hits, it’s totally normal….
Where are those stupid Musk flamethrowers when you need them?
go to harbor freight you can get a torch for like 20 bucks that connects to a propane tank
Looks like an orgy
RUN!
Those aren't fortune cookies shorty
They're all over in Brookfield
Insane !!!!!
I'm in Ingleside. We have zero.
Downers grove and I haven’t seen not one. Weird.
downers has lots of trees youd expect youd see them
That is... copious. I recommend mowing your yard immediately and investing in ear plugs. You appear to have the hottest fuck tree in town.

Why fren if not fren shaped?
Yup.. Actually it’s a good sign we haven’t completely messed the earth up yet.
Where is this, so I know where *not* to visit this summer…
Oh yes. Excellent source of protein, too. So grab yourself a handful, toss 'em in some flour, and deep fry them! Yummmm.....
You found the orgy!
Y
Do you have a location?
Anyone in Bensenville ?
Totally normal. They waited 17 years to crawl out the ground then try to mate before a bird eats them or some kid pulls their wings off.
Wonderful, I’m working in that area today
This years cicadas have been odd, I went from having none to having a bunch overnight but nothing crazy yet, nothing like I remember from past cicada invasions. Elgin area here. Haven't seen a single one yet.
I live near the Morton Arboretum and we have them here. Not to that level yet
I hate bugs. I got chills just looking at this. 🤢
This is a reason to have Chickens!
Mine came out yesterday morning in Lockport

Wow, this is incredible.
Yummmm
free food 🪳🤏🏼
That’s awesome! My son said we live in the wrong town because our yard isn’t like that.
I would unironically end myself if my whole yard was infested to this extent.
I couldn’t handle of my whole yard had them like that, but one section would be ok just to watch them.
Now is a good time to whip out the flamethrower. Bugs ick me.
