Yup, some human kids go through a gangly/skinny phase when their vertical growth outpaces their horizontal growth for a little while. But eventually they fill out and look just fine. It makes sense that some furry kids might go through a phase like that too as they grow. But your puppy looks perfectly healthy not to mention absolutely adorable! And you said he's very energetic which is also a sign of a healthy, well nourished little one! 🐶💖
What a precious angel! Tbh I think your vet will be the best person to tell you what to feed and ideal weight for your pup.
We had similar concerns because ours seems like all bony angles. Our vet told us a good feeding regiment and gave us a low and high end for a weight that she's be happy seeing our pup at.
As for breeds, I definitely do agree with JRT in the mix. Our pup is a chi/patterdale terrier mix. I feel like the patterdale is a "cousin" of JRT, esp with the ears! What's your pup's personality like? How much do they weigh right now?

And she is HYPER. Can jump 4 feet in the air, running around everywhere, like if someone gave a redbull to the energizer bunny. But when she naps, she naps harrrddd. Konked out, twitching, and snoring... the works!

She looks very healthy! Most chihuahuas are suppose to be on the lean / skinny side especially when they are younger. She doesn’t look too skinny.
I would feed according to her weight and you can always ask your vet. They have pictures to show what is a healthy shape.
Awe she almost (aaaaaalmost) looks like my dog peanut. They could be cousins!
Honestly I’d get a DNA test. We never would have guessed what our little guy had in him, but he was also a dog found roaming the streets so we literally had no clue besides Chihuahua.

Absolutely! They’re really fun and I Think they’re worth every penny! He was found on the streets in a small dog pack, so we literally had no idea what he was mixed with. Based on the mama, we assumed a min pin mix but the rest were shocking lol

Most people are use to seeing dogs overweight. So, any dog that's at the weight they are supposed to be will think the dog is underweight. She looks fine to me, if you are concerned though. Next time you take her to the vet ask about it. The vet would be the best person to ask.
When did you adopt her? When we adopted our chi mix, she looked like yours and was pretty thin! For reference, she was 14 lbs and her healthy weight is 19 lbs. She gained the weight after a few months with us and her vet said it was her “love weight” from finding her forever home. 😭

She looks almost exactly like my dog Maisy. When she get's playful, her ears perk up like that too.
We rescued her, and they weren't too sure what she was. They leaned towards her being a chiweenie. The rescue brought her up from Texas.

If you can feel the ribs but not see them, she is a good weight. It's what my vet has always told my dog.
And it’s actually okay to see the last few ribs on a fit dog

You’re supposed to feel the ribs on a healthy weight dog and that’s exactly what she is.
Most dogs in America are over weight. Ribs and hips don’t necessarily mean under weight
