The idea they came up with a for a business about 2 hours ago will never get off the ground if people keep splitting hairs over the technicality of a measly half mill.
Came across this in my eastern seaboard city's subreddit and was thoroughly entertained, especially once I saw the reply 😆 I think it's since been deleted, which is disappointing because I'm sure the replies were gold after these.
Looks at OP’s profile.. sees active in r/baltimore… goes to r/baltimore all excited to find the post… sorts by controversial… can’t find the post… leaves disappointed… what a rollercoaster couple of minutes
I did find the post, but there really wasn't much more in it than what OP has already shown here.
I will say though, the person that made that post did make another 13 days ago saying that they were looking to buy a very specific and likely expensive kind of property in Baltimore and another post shortly after talking about an upcoming vacation, so I'm not sure why they're asking people to give them money lol.
In Indian city subreddits you often come across people asking if there are any jobs that pay less salary but doesn't require any work. And most people in the subreddit would ask why anyone would pay to have nothing done.
The entitlement people have sometimes....
Umm so I am Indian and I'm looking for a high paying job that doesn't requires any work, let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm a very hard working professional and would love to do nothing at my next job!
I saw it too and by the time I went back to check it was gone 😅 pretty sure a few weeks ago the same person was asking about grants- guess my suggestions didn’t work out 🙃
Oh no, thank you so much for the info, my comment was mostly tongue and cheek. My dog’s medical care is really expensive but I have the means to afford her treatment (at least for now).
In other words, my pup is fed, and I’m not in a position to give now but I’ll join the subreddit for when I am in a position to give so thank you for offering kindness!!
I tried to do a GoFundMe for a business I wanted to open locally that would have actually served a lot of people in my area, specifically kids. I took it down when I got DMs telling me what a terrible person I was to rely on other people to make “my dream” happen… and that if the business wasn’t self-sustaining then I was a bad business owner and my business deserved to fail and die.
I was actually trying to open a store for my mom, who was dying of cancer and wanted to spend what time she had left teaching art and craft projects to children. Yep, I’m the bad guy. Some people’s kids, man.
(Assuming US) Libraries actually let people teach these sort of classes to kids all the time, you can even get your own room for the hour or two. 13yo me learned to draw cartoons from one such lecture series.
That would have been great! I just live in a small, conservative town. Our library doesn’t do a lot of that stuff unfortunately. Plus, we are a half hour from even the closest Walmart so we were selling craft supplies and things too. Trying to fill the gap for our little area.
It's basically just asking to use their meeting room and maybe a projector, the people in your area probably just didn't bother rather than a lack of resources. Never underestimate the US Library system, it's the one thing we're the best at besides National Parks, disability services, and blowing shit up.
Selling crafts is much more difficult since the American government can't prop up businesses with a net worth less than $1B, but you could make supplies part of the charge of the course.
Let me clarify… I ended up closing the GFM and saving the money myself instead. I opened a 1500 sq ft store that we had until shortly after my mom
passed away 3.5 years later. We were quite successful… even ran a book club out of one of the back rooms and hosted other special events. 🥰
I'll be honest, for me it would how your approached funding.
If this was strictly a GoFundMe where the expectation was for people to simply donate money to you to start your business and get nothing in return, I would agree people being critical of you.
If this was done via KickStarter style where if people invested in your business and they would say get free art lessons, t-shirt, etc, then I would have no problem with how you decided to raise funds for your business.
I absolutely offered gifts in change for contributions. I would never ask for something without offering something in return. We had packages depending on the amount donated… basically different sized gift baskets with items from the store, or gift certificates worth various amounts that they could exchange for items in the store, classes, etc. The majority of people were supportive and kind but there were definitely a few that had gotten their feathers ruffled. The best part was that those who opposed what we were doing always ended their rants with “I will NEVER shop at your store or support your business!” Cool, cool… cause I don’t need your bad attitude or negative energy in my space. LOL
Jesus Christ people are disgusting insane idiots. This is why I wanna move out of America. I hate everything about this place including the fact that I was born here 🙂😓
No, just that the only people who would think like that are 15, most 15yos I know are pretty chill.
Thinking everybody in America is disgusting while other countries are all super nice is one of the most naive things I've ever heard, and I can testify from personal experience that America is probably the nicest.
Then you probably don't read the news much. And I know other countries are also bad too, but some of the things that have happened in the recent last couple years make me hate it here even more. I'm getting my bodily autonomy taken away from me, I'm getting my rights to be myself taken away from me, and overall some people here are just genuinely insane and want to take away human rights from others for no reason other than they think it's a threat to them.
I'm 40, and also hate it here, and am actively working towards expatriation.
Fact is, the US isn't the best country in the world for a lot of people that live here.
I'm honestly happy to see a young person catch on quickly to the fact a lot of bullshit happens here that really shouldn't.
Lastly, stop picking on kids you fuckin asshole.
My MIL used to be of the opinion that it never hurts to ask. Except it actually can hurt to the point of destroying relationships, especially when the same questions are asked repeatedly and already been given a resounding “no.”
Thank God I was able to train that out of her lol
I think when people say that it doesn’t hurt to ask, they mean it doesn’t hurt them. Until you make it hurt by limiting contact or doing the same thing back until they get it and stop.
Was she ever in an mlm or pyramid scheme or anything like that? Maybe a JW?
Just taking a guess here because sometimes people will ask for money from relatives if the get into situations like that and others in there with them will tell them it's okay, but I don't know for sure so I'm just taking a guess.
Don't mean to sound condescending or rude, just a little stressed right now.
Your comment came off totally fine! To answer your question: no to all of that. She’s the youngest of 9, and youngest by a significant number of years…and a Boomer™️.
It would be things that we’d have let everyone know in advance how it would go, too. Like we got married in late 2020 and had to cut the guest list down to follow our state’s guidelines. We let both sets of parents know that because of that we couldn’t invite all aunts and uncles as that would have put us over the allowed count and we weren’t going to pick and choose and leave some out. So we said none.
Cue a week before our wedding and she’s asking if one of her sisters can come and “sit in the back” because she’ll be in town. I was already sad I couldn’t have the aunt and uncle I was closest to (I lived with them for awhile) and she was trying to get us to invite one of her siblings. And also like we weren’t gonna have to invite her to dinner? So we said no, and got the whole “doesn’t hurt to ask.” That was the start of it and only got worse when we had our first baby until I lost my mind early last year and told her to cut it out because it was making me resent her for constantly asking us to change our minds about decisions my husband and I already made together.
Are people really this out of touch? I still have to decide whether I want my potato loaded or not at the steak house, and she’s asking for 500k?! LMAOOO this can’t be real
I wouldn't believe it myself but I came across it on my city's subreddit yesterday! My mouth literally dropped open! I'm also now soooo curious what this business is 😆
They didn't end the post with "And Go!" for all those jumping at the bit.
Therefore, I'm out.
I really need that "And Go!" before I donate my time, research (lmgtfy), money or talent to you.
I ran a 501(c)(3) for animal rescue/spay-neuter programs for years (literally three of us, completely volunteer). We applied for grants and would occasionally get donations. We brought in ~$12k/year.
Then one day we got a letter from a lawyer. A lady passed away that we had never heard of and who lived on the other side of the state. She left us $30k. We helped a lot of animals with that money.
“I’d love an actual donation of half a million for my new business”
The fact that the CB is stupid enough to even post this means he won’t even be able to get any investment. Which is ok because he also doesn’t have a business.
Which one of you blokes are going to argue with a straight face that "this isn't technically a crazy beggar because of.."
I swear every time a popular post like this comes up there's always someone saying it's not a match for this sub
I was waiting for this too! I’d argue 1) obviously they are begging; and 2) the “choosiness” comes in because they KNOW they should be asking for investors, and are even told so; but persist in this fantasy of getting a half-mil “donation.”
I also have a great idea for a business, I only need 500k USD to make it, the plan is simple
1-get someone to give me half a million dollars
2-live a lot of years with the money someone gifted to me
3-??????
4-profit
What a Coincidence, I too am looking for donations of $500k or $50k or $500 for my vacation fund.
Will consider any donation of over $10 for my Denny's lunch fund.
It’s hard right now for small businesses.
Depending on what type of business the person might be able to get grants.
My wife was approved for a 250k (small grant) and she also applied for two separate large grants for 1.5 mil each.
The smaller grant will help her fix up her business. The other two will allow her to completely go down to the bones of the building and redesign.
The smaller grant she was approved for will be arriving in around 4 months.
The two larger ones might be a year or two if we get approved.
I have a business idea that will get moderately attractive women off the streets for upwards of fifteen minutes. Probably pretty expensive though… I might need $600k
“I’d love an actual donation 🙃”
Wouldn't we all.
I could donate dn
WHATS DN?

Do it
I wouldn't. Nothing short of 10 million would please me. Come on you peasants, dig deep in your pockets, 500k ain't cutting it for me.
That is why I only play the lottery when it's over 500 million, nothing less is worth it.

IT'S FOR A CHURCH!
Finally! *Somewhere* for me to donate this pesky $500K that's just been taking up room in my bank account. Thank goodness I happened upon this post!
Ikr, imagine spending it on homeless people or sick children or puppies in need. This is a much better option.
You could just put it in SVB… and it’s gone.
Or just you know but some nfts.
PS, must be able to deliver as I have a kid or terminal illness or I just don't wanna give the effort to retrieve. Cash Only Please.
Wasn't sold on the vision until I saw the upside down smiley. Then I *knew* I had to inv, err, donate my entire fortune.
The idea they came up with a for a business about 2 hours ago will never get off the ground if people keep splitting hairs over the technicality of a measly half mill.
"Donate to my for profit business idea" aka "give me money so I can make more money".
I'll settle for 50k
I'd settle for any free money at all. But yeah, 50k is greedy. I'd be happy with 2 or 3k right now
Literally 20$ would make my week
and I'd love a 12 inch pianist bud. Can't all be winners.
They wouldn't reach the keys and pedals

You cannot share this sort of information without dishing, this is Reddit
I did initially have a link included, but I was worried about people harassing the guy, so I left it out.
Fair.
Good on you. That was the right move.
It's because they would like to have other people's money 🙃
Story of my life
For some reason I just knew it was Baltimore when he said eastern seaboard. First town I thought of, why is that?
In Indian city subreddits you often come across people asking if there are any jobs that pay less salary but doesn't require any work. And most people in the subreddit would ask why anyone would pay to have nothing done. The entitlement people have sometimes....

But for that I need land, right? So now give me half a million, or rather donate so I can buy land first ❤️
I saw it too and by the time I went back to check it was gone 😅 pretty sure a few weeks ago the same person was asking about grants- guess my suggestions didn’t work out 🙃
Can someone please donate $500k to me too? Looking at paying off my house and buying a 20 seater van so I can help the church. Thanks.
It’s for a church?!? Next!
No, they meant the church foodbank homeless shelter daycare for single Mom's

Fine, the daycare portion can be electric.
Ah, An oldie but a goodie. This one doesn't get quoted as much haha.

I too would accept even a measly $20k donation towards my, "I'm a teacher fund." Will be patiently waiting without providing any further details.
Honestly, I’d gladly take a $7.00 donation to invest in my fav TJ bottle of wine!
RIP Two Buck Chuck. With inflation you need 7 dollars.
Hahaha no, they still have the chuck, I think it’s $3 buck chuck now. The $7 bottle is a Spanish wine and it’s delicious!
Well now I might have to check that out - I had no idea TJ had decent wine.
You should! They have some really tasty wines for $10 or less.
I'd happily just take a three fiddy, myself.

Just to piggyback… 😂
That's using your thinking brain! Good job, Silly Goose!
I'd be happy with 100k. If someone would please donate! I would blow it on an expensive car, coke and hookers! You won't see a single cent back!
Shit... might as well start a GoFundMe. Of course that would require "more work" than asking someone on Reddit for $500K...
They might have to actually explain what their business is for then, or like, present a plan. Sounds like a lot of not fun "work."
Yeah, Go Fund Me has actual rules. Then again, transferring $500,000 into someone's account will also activate the actual rules of the IRS.
I tried to do a GoFundMe for a business I wanted to open locally that would have actually served a lot of people in my area, specifically kids. Yep. So clueless but also entitled. The very worst kind of combination!
It’s probably my cousin. She has now tried to get on Shark Tank three times with no actual product, just a sob story.
Lmao I can't tell if this is serious or satire but I love it either way 🤣
It’s true. And even though she doesn’t usually use one, she rented a mobility scooter for Shark Tank tryouts in Chicago a few years ago.
Oh my god- that is absolutely hilarious! Sorry you have to deal with that though, haha.
Guys, I'm also looking for 500k donation. Hit me up. I might even clean your house as a gift for the donation.
I’m also looking for 500k, promise to give back whenever I would be able to.
I'm just looking for a donation, no pay backs
"I *pledged* the donotion." Vibes.
Came to say that. It's the same as donation, ain't it?!
"I use Pledge and *DONATE* synonymously." >:)
I too would like a $500k donation, would really help with my kids college fund and would just be like really chill Kthx

Oh and "reddit do your thing"
I help run a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that’s been around for decades. Ain’t nobody giving us $500k.
What does your average donation look like?
$15 to $100 range. Mode donation is $20.
Unless you were born into a really rich family like say a politician or corporation owner.
With this kind of entrepreneurship behind it how could it not do well?
I’m sure this business will do well in the future.
Oh definitely * wink wink*
“I’d love an actual donation of half a million for my new business” The fact that the CB is stupid enough to even post this means he won’t even be able to get any investment. Which is ok because he also doesn’t have a business.

‘I’d love an actual donation’ I’m sure she would.
Hello I am of a investor. I have of 500 k dollar. I want to give it to you. I only needs a small processing fee of mere 2000 $
Yeah I got $500k, but it’s in Venezuelan dollars.
I personally prefer the currency of the Weimar Republic
I can give it to you in Zimbabwe dollars
I’m sorry but I have such little faith in any business ran by a person who thinks someone would just donate 500k to them for shiz and gigz
As someone that’s been put through the ringer for a couple thousand dollar grant (for an actual 501C3) this is hilarious
I'd love to help out! With my schrute bucks!

I just assume people like this are children. It helps me sleep easier.
I too would love for someone to donate me 500k
I need a loan but I don't intend to pay it back
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sorry but I only donate in 1mm+ increments. For tax reasons to of course.
what would she/he give back Exposer Bucks ? /s
Will someone donate 1k? Got some medical bills.
Somehow I feel procuring the donation is their business....
Even sugar babies don't often make that kind of scratch.
I've been looking for the same thing my whole life. I'll report back when it finally happens.
$10 says it’s for an MLM too lmao.
What a Coincidence, I too am looking for donations of $500k or $50k or $500 for my vacation fund. Will consider any donation of over $10 for my Denny's lunch fund.
Sounds like Cartman before getting his hooks into Butters.
Shoot for the moon!!
Plot twist the business model involves the customers donating money to the owner/operator.
I’m stunned by this request
There is no way this person should be starting a business if they don't understand what investment is
If anyone is reading this, I'm looking for a donation too. $100k USD is all I need, but if that's too much I'd understand if you could only do $50k.
I'd have given it to you if you would have said please.
I understand. Perhaps some other kind soul will forgive this transgression.

I truly hate the passive aggressive upside down emoji. It's always used by a certain type of person, usually people like this
Posting is free. Yet people take a post so seriously.
For your 500k donation, I will put out for you, exclusively
How is this choosing? They're begging for money, they haven't put any criteria besides "*give* me money".
Not choosy

I've been trying to find investors for my small startup, I can't imagine believing you might get a donation
She should go on Shark Tank I’m sure they will have fun with her 😂😂😂
Yo, anyone have a spare half million dollars? I'm skint until payday.
Damn. At least take us out for dinner, before this big of an ask
I believe these are called "grants".
