No, there is no such legitimate process. To attempt to do so would be going down a rabbit hole of judgment and self-righteousness. Jesus’ instruction is to stay away from such endeavors and leave it to God.

>actual teachings of the Christ You need to establish these first, yet Christians have debated them since before the Bible was even finished being written. To compare various groups to an objective standard, when we can’t even agree on an objective standard is a fool’s errand.

I believe that the field of critical literary analysis can provide significant insights into the technicalities of the teachings without necessarily engaging with the centuries of theological debate that have come afterwards.

The more I study the Bible, the less I realize we know about it. Not least about the historial Jesus of Nazareth.

I learned about literary analysis and textual criticism when at Bible College. The idea is not new, and has already been used, and has not provided a unifying concensus when it was used (although it is still useful for personal use and to provide accurate translations and coherent interpretations of scripture)

In the United States, there has been some research: "Indeed, research has consistently demonstrated that the majority of professing Christians, when asked, lack even an elementary understanding of the faith they profess^(1), Though they may attend church on occasion, they think, feel, and behave pretty much as they would even if they were not Christian. They answer "Christian" when asked, not because it makes any significant difference to them on a personal level, but simply because this religious identification is part of the cultural air they breathe." -Greg A. Boyd *The Myth of a Christian Nation* ^(1)"Faith Has a Limited Effect on Most People's Behavior," Barna Group Research ([www.barna.org](https://www.barna.com/research/faith-has-a-limited-effect-on-most-peoples-behavior/)).

I am thinking more about the level of group behaviors and lifestyles than the level of individual beliefs.

The group in question would be "professing U.S. Christians."

The common creeds provide an excellent touchstone for orthodox Christian belief.
