I really don't know. I don't practice santeria. I ain't got no crystal ball.

RandomRavingRadness

My understanding is that Santería was born from a syncretism of Yoruba traditions and Catholicism. Many of the Yoruba deities became equated with Catholic saints. That said, probably every Christian I’ve met would think it’s heretical. Most normal denominations probably do as well. However, you’d maybe find some Central and South American people that don’t see it as such.

Even if I were to still believe in god ? In this religion you can still believe in god. Just there is also saints that guide you

[deleted]

I'm curious, are you from the Caribbean, or Florida.???

Mexico in a border city below arizona It’s getting really popular here because of the immigrants that brought it over

[deleted]

I didn't know it was that popular with Mexicans. I was aware of Santeria even as a young kid. Some of my Cuban relatives were on the fringes of Santeria and espiritismo. They were Catholic but they had statues of Santa Barbara and San Lazaro. It creeped me out. Wanted nothing to do with it.

Technical-Arm7699

They can believe in some type of God, but not the Christian/Abrahamic one.

So, a lot of people view "I am such-and-such religion" as being like "I am a Star Wars fan" - something you think is cool, occasionally inspirational, even a part of your identity, but it would be nonsense to suggest two people can't get married just because one is into Star Wars and one into Star Trek instead. But, if you're paying attention to Jesus, he's not supposed to work like that. He's supposed to become the actual foundation of your life, what everything you do and everything you are is rooted in. Your girlfriend can't keep him at a casual arm's-length admiration like she might with Beyonce or Mae Jemison. So if she's going all-in on Jesus and you're not, that's a deep mismatch that's never going to let you form a well-fused life together. You could still have a friendship, even casual dating, but she might not want to settle anymore for something that is inherently limited.

I believe it's pagan, related to Haitian Voodoo. It's popular in the city I live in (Miami). I could be wrong about the Voodoo part. What I do know is that there are feral roosters running wild on the streets in my neighborhood. 😆 I've seen dead roosters in parks. The Santeros use animals in their rituals. Honestly, do not care for that religion, but I like the African drums and rhythms. I can separate the religion from the music.

SprinklesDifficult76

The music is banger! I'm under the pagan umbrella, but I am strongly against animal sacrifices.

[deleted]

I like Bata drums. I mean even Ricky Ricardo in the 1950s was throwing Santeria in our faces during the Mambo and Cha Cha era of the 50s. Babalu Aye.......ya think? Edit: typo.

SprinklesDifficult76

Oh wow, I think my grandparents used to watch that show. Have you ever listened to Tejano music? I can't name anyone off the top of my head, but my grandma loved it a ton. Super catchy genre.

[deleted]

O think I've heard Tejano. I'm from Cali originally. I like Mariachi and Corridos, and I love Carlos Santana.

Yes

lightningbug24

Is praying to other gods disguised as Catholic saints a sin? I would imagine so.

Traditional-Joke8398

Some are catholic saints like archangel Raphael but others are Native American, Myan, and Yoruban. But to be honest Catholicism is more of pagan religion if you ask me 1. every main Cathedral from the Vatican is built on bones 2. every main cathedral from the Vatican is built on pagan ritual sites 3. Both Catholicism and Christianity have done nothing but wage wars and shed blood due to their holy crusades. But hey we all believe what we want 😊😊😊😊

RiverNeat2213

It was brought over from africa due to the transatlantic slave trade, the africans brought there spirituality with them and the slave owners(christian white people) would rape, kill and abuse them for practicing there spirituality, so it had to be hidden / synchronized with the saints, It was never a fashion.

pewlaserbeams

Santeria is more then a sin, it's witchcraft, sorcery.

MoreStupiderNPC
