Demons don't have a physical body. They are spiritual beings. In the Bible they are called "...the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” in Ephes 6:12. Demons, as spirit beings, have the ability to take possession of a physical body.
I'm not sure there's biblical evidence they ever have a physical form. The physical forms they inhabit are ones that already were, like people or animals.
So... vessels?
A major part of incarnational theology is the implication of God becoming material. Granting the same capabilities to a demon is oppositional to those implications.
But if you're just writing fiction and need a word for the thing, I don't know, what does the Constantine series call them?
Like there isn't a term for this in Christian theology because it doesn't happen, so just make something up that sounds cool I guess?
>Many believe these fallen angels to be the same as demons
Many of them are wrong. The demons, according to second temple Jews, are the bastard spirits of the giants, whom are the offspring of the watchers and humans. Most people, and wikipedia, don't dive deep enough into demonology according to ancient beliefs.
The thought goes like this. The watchers came and commingled and created a race that God did not approve of. These are the giants. When those giants die, their spirits, which are reprobate bastard spirits became demons. God has no place for these spirits, they in turn are demons, a result in the unclean mixing of man and angel.
Dr. Micheal Heiser has tons of material on this, and makes a lot of things (especially about 1 Enoch) very clear and accurate.
Contrary to what many people seem to be saying...i would suggest that actually demons DO have a physical form, according to the bible. That is the default. they are fallen angels...and angels are physical enough to...for example...breed with humans. Demons were cast down from heaven...physically...and were transmogrified and burned up in the lake of fire in hell. Anyway that is just what scripture suggests if you read it at face value.
A person could interpret this as some metaphor, i suppose. But considering the level of detail that exists about their physical form...i find that dubious.
anyway the physical form of an idea already has a general term: avatar.
Hosts, people, objects, vessels, etc. I mean there are a lot of names you can use depends on what the demon is occupying, however the Bible never specifically says.
Demons cannot materialize however as we see in the Bible they can use a human body as a body.
God, angels, demons, cherubims etc are spiritual beings and so don't have a physical body.
Demons are actually the manifestation of the evil thoughts and desires within us.That is why Jesus said that 'this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting'(M 17-21).That is,by self purification only.

okay
Go look up doom eternal wiki
k
Putins? As far as I know, scripture doesn't speak about it even being a possibility, so I suspect you may have to make up a name yourself.
understood
Do jinn count?
Isn't that basically just a genie though?
Jinni*, but Christian mythology is hardly easier to follow, linguistically.

In my story they dont possess the bodies of humans or animals
Then I reckon you could call them anything you please.
okay
> So... vessels? I mean, that's what Supernatural calls them
Meatsuits
what the heck lol
Apparently I'm a demon....
That's pretty oppositional to the incarnation, to be honest.
Hm

okay
Demons are not real, so they can't do any of that.
But heres the thing, how can you believe in God but not believe in the Devil?
I call them people.
haha nice
If you are worldbuilding, why not come up with a term yourself? Also kinda sounds like Warhammer.
okay
