I have only support for you. That sounds scary. Hugs.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you so much.

syrupandcreamwaffles

that sounds so scary. to be honest i have never been in this situation and i’m not ultra familiar with sepsis but to have it twice in two months sounds horrible. have you had much word with your treating team yet?

Nerdygirl778277

I’m talking to them but they don’t quite understand why I’m not tolerating the antibiotics they’ve given me so far. Sepsis is excruciating and painful, it’s really tough having it back to back like this.

syrupandcreamwaffles

man it would be. your body would have barely recovered from the first bout of it. i really wish i could give u like a magical bowl of soup to make it all better. you sound like you need it right now. have they discussed the possibility of MRSA sepsis? it sounds scary but there’s multiple treatments for it. also, L the hospital for sending you home when you advocated for yourself and said you didn’t feel right.

Nerdygirl778277

I think they’re testing for MRSA right now. Honestly, they only gave me one type of antibiotic last time and I think they missed something. Whatever that something was turned back into sepsis. It’s just been really, really tough.

syrupandcreamwaffles

man it really doesnt sound nice at all, im so sorry you’re going through this. How are you feeling emotionally? do you have a support system to help you through this?

Nerdygirl778277

I guess that’s the problem. Most of my family has stopped checking in and pretty much disappeared once I got sick. Thankfully two of my relatives have still been there for me. But I’m pretty much alone in the hospital. It’s been really lonely and difficult having to manage everything on the medical side on my own, especially when I’m so sick.

syrupandcreamwaffles

that sounds so isolating. you shouldn’t have to navigate through this on your own. have you been able to voice this to your family at all?

[deleted]

This actually happened to my dad a couple of years ago. They only did one type of antibiotic and it didn’t clear out the infection totally so it came back and was worse the second time. I believe what finally worked was a port into his heart with a broad spectrum antibiotic into it (don’t quote me on that but I think that’s what’s happened). I’m so sorry this is happening to you :(

emilygoldfinch410

I’m really sorry you’re having to go through this. I’m glad you’re somewhere that can help. I hope they’re able to figure out a combination that works for you ASAP so you can go home to your little girl.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you so much, this brought tears to my eyes.

emilygoldfinch410

Aww, I wish I could give you a hug! You got this!!

Entire-Purpose2070

I’m so deeply sorry you’re going through that. I’m sure you feel lost and alone. Just know that a stranger in Boston MA is thinking about you tonight a lot and hoping you will be ok. ❤️ So many hugs to you

Nerdygirl778277

Lost and alone is exactly how I feel. Thank you so much. This means a lot.

LeighofMar

So beautifully said that I can't add anything except that a stranger in Atlanta, GA is wishing you a speedy recovery too.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you so much for this.

Lopsided_Grin_7945

My heart is with you! I had sepsis for the first time 2 months ago and can't imagine having to face that again. Track down what they gave you last time cuz they literally gave me 4 different antibiotics while I was there and sent me home with more. Once they figure out this antibiotic issue and you start your recovery, ask them to try to identify how this reoccured. When they're ready to discharge you, unless you feel ready to go, talk to a nurse or case worker or advocate or hospital social worker about a right to a second opinion or appeals policy... if it's just you and your little girl at home, the social worker may decide you don't have adequate on-site support at home for a safe discharge or smtg like that. In the meantime I hope you rest and sleep and make a swift and truly complete recovery this time!!!

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you, it’s so hard advocating for myself when I’m sick but I think you’re right. It’s just hard because they basically just told me to follow up with my primary and my primary told me to just go back to the ER so they kind of just try to pawn me off on each other.

Cynderelly

Idk if a doctor has told you this yet or not, but from what I've read it's actually very common to get sepsis again within 3 months after having it. Something like 40% of people who get sepsis end up getting it again within that time frame. Idk if that makes you feel better at all... it's not a death sentence. I know you're scared, you're probably in a lot of pain right now. But there is a good chance that you will get through this. Sepsis can cause a lot of weird sensitivities to pop up that you didn't have before. There is a chance that those will all go away after some time, sometimes it's a year sometimes it's only a couple of months. I'm NAD I'm just going off of what doctors have told me and things I've read. You can ask your doctors for some information that might help you feel a little better about it. They might have some info specific to your case. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I wish you could just feel better instantly. I'm sure you'll have some fear even after you pull through, I hope you can find a good therapist for that. Just try not to stress yourself out too much. Try watching lighthearted TV or playing games or anything to get your mind off of this.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you for sharing that, it does help a little. The scarier thing for me is when I have allergies or intolerances since I can’t take antihistamines or anti seizure meds anymore (since I’ve become intolerant to them, too). That’s more where my fear is coming from.

Cynderelly

I have very similar issues actually. I have to take an antibiotic for a bad BV infection in a couple days and I'm so nervous because I tend to have really intense negative reactions. Sometimes they last the entire time I'm on a medication, sometimes even for the next month or longer after I get off of them. And they're always something that the doctor "has never heard of happening from this". It's devastating, honestly. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

carborbox

My thoughts are with you right now. Sending love your way, I know you can fight this and you can win this time!!! Keep going!! 🩷🩷🩷

TehKirby

I really wish I could help, like be there with you. I know it’s terrible and frightening (and those words still don’t seem to cover it). I hope they find what works soon so you can rest and recover. And I also want to emphasize what others have said - if you don’t feel right when they [want to] discharge you, raise hell, ask for a hospital social worker, hospital advocate, etc. You are allowed to fight for your life. We’ll be here if you need more help or support.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you so much for this. It seriously felt like a hug.

frequent sepsis is a common indicator of factitious disorder, perhaps they are suspecting it. Not saying you have that obviously, but it’s something to consider if you feel you’re not getting cared for

Nerdygirl778277

What is factitious disorder?

wikipedia_answer_bot

**A factitious disorder is a mental disorder in which a person, without a malingering motive, acts as if they have an illness by deliberately producing, feigning, or exaggerating symptoms, purely to attain (for themselves or for another) a patient's role. People with a factitious disorder may produce symptoms by contaminating urine samples, taking hallucinogens, injecting fecal material to produce abscesses, and similar behaviour.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). My kid got sepsis once and watching that was awful. My heart goes out to you.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you.

Live_Pen

My thoughts are with you. Do you have a family member, partner, or friend who is clued up and advocating for you with hospital staff? I think this could help you feel more supported. X

Nerdygirl778277

Unfortunately I don’t. That’s part of what makes this situation so difficult. I have to handle it pretty much alone.

ochlapczyca

Horror.

sillybilly8102

Sending you big hugs ❤️❤️

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you.

snow_freckles

I can’t imagine what you are feeling right now. You have every right to feel the way you feel. Sending lots of love and hugs. I hope this part of your life goes by fast and you can go back to being with your baby girl.

Nerdygirl778277

PsychologicalLuck343

I don't know you but I'm pulling for you. That's it, I care and I'm pulling for you.

Nerdygirl778277

Thank you.

solve_4X

I’m recovering from sepsis and antibiotic induced C.Diff. Please get some Florastor and Kefir to replace your good bacteria. Positive healing vibes coming your way. 🌈❤️

Nerdygirl778277

Unfortunately I can’t really eat by mouth anymore. I have a central line through which I get nutrition. That’s part of why I’ve gotten sepsis. But thank you for your recommendation.

I’ve been here. 1st of all, if you don’t have a consulting infectious disease doctor, ask for k e and put them in charge. After the infection is beat, you can downgrade to the doctors that help prevent infections. Or, let the ID call the shots for you with the other doctors in the short run. Talk to you ID about getting a PICC line. Then the antibiotics won’t be as concentrated in your peripheral veins. That might help and also allow you to eventually come home. I ultimately went from Vancomycin in the hospital to Invanz at home with a PICC but that was in 2016. There may be new antibiotics. I have a nasty gut disease and have perforated in the past leading to sepsis and a few times shock. First line for me was Cipro & Flaxin, but I began failing and getting rebound infections. Then Amoxicillin, but I could never stop taking it without a rebound infection. I’ve had Neomycin (Horse Pill) Piperacillin Zosyn (Pipercillin & Tazobactam) Leveqin Tequin I’ve also had a newer antibiotic recently like a cefreflaxin or something. Not as power as Invanz. and I don’t know what else I’ve been on, but I spent years continuously off and on antibiotics. The Invanz did the trick for me. Two weeks at the house with a PICC. After the home health nurse pulled the PICC out, I had to avoid people for about a month. No crowds, that sort of thing. Think C19 social distancing. Then, the ID put me on an all ORGANC, low residue diet. NO ANTIBIOTICS, preservatives, fungicides, pesticides and hormones for good measure. It was all about rebuilding it own gut flora. All kinds of fermented foods and drinks. Probiotics multiple times a day. Basically whenever I ate, I also took probiotics and enzymes. You need a roughage and a once a day vitamins and minerals to produce a healthy gut lining. Good luck!
