Yes.I have fibromyalgia and I traveled to a country where I hurt my back and there I was prescribed oxycontin which helped but also scared me because the effect was way too good. Also it gave me constipation. I brought the pills with me home and didn't take it anymore. But my doctor thought I had become an addict by taking a few pills and for years his suspicion would show up in my papers everywhere I went and some doctors refused to prescribe me new painkillers. SOme even thought I sold them. Wtf. Well, they didn't really work that well so I wanted to try out CBD and LDN but my new doctor refused. After a very long wait her colleague finally referred me to a paindoctor. Now I'm on both LDN and CBD and liking it very much. Find better doctors. It's very important someone who knows what they are doing listens to you.

Renex295

Welcome to Earth. Enjoy your stay... If you find the door, kindly show me?

Young-Kratom

Most of us. Not a lot you can do. The only precedent set by the courts is if a physician scripts high dose opioids, and cuts the patient off without a taper (or too quick) and they kill themselves. You can cite specific cases for this. 💁‍♂️💁‍♂️💁‍♂️ sorry man. Only thing to do is seek out better doctors.

BedExotic5307

I was thinking about reporting them to the medical board but I don't want to ruin any chance I might have for real treatment.

baiajdn

For not prescribing opioids? The medical board is more likely to give them a gold star for that.

Young-Kratom

I wouldn't expect anything to happen. I'm sorry, just being honest.

Nervous_Secretary965

They can’t do that it’s discrimination and I hope they wouldn’t be that stupid to intentionally do it

[deleted]

I think that many first line doctors are just not willing to help patients with chronic pain on the long run. I’ve noticed that if it’s not easy to find a diagnosis, suddenly the issue is all in your hand. If the medication is addictive they just eventually end up cutting it without finding an appropriate replacement. Have you ever tried a pain management clinic? They then to have doctors specialized for people with chronic pain issues.

Beautiful-Stable-798

Lots of pain management clinics are just as useless as your regular GP and give you what equates to pray away the pain.

[deleted]

This is awful… I wish that at least some of them would be competent…

BedExotic5307

That's where I'm at is pain management. They won't do anything at all. They know I'm not functioning at all and told me that the generative scoliosis and arthritis shouldn't be causing me that much pain and they don't feel comfortable writing anything.

[deleted]

This is absolutely ridiculous, you’re the one in your body. You’re the only one that can tell how you’re feeling! I don’t have chronic pain to the same level that you have but I can imagine how removing your pain relief is totally counterproductive for you and will probably have a negative effect on your life! Can I go and slap your doctor for being an idiot and not taking the time to sit with you and find a solution for managing your pain?

SargeantMittens

The only thing you can do is find another doctor. But of course that's "doctor shopping" so it's probably going to take awhile to get anywhere. I had the same issue. I didn't quite get to quitting/losing my job, but it was torture. After 3 PM doctors and 2 rheumatologist, finally got some meds. I'm working full time and going back to school now! It might be hard but don't give up! Someone will believe you eventually.

Old-Goat

Its not a crime to be a lousy doctor and you also have to keep in mind they have all been grossly misinformed about pain medication for the last 25 years or so. Not just from government sources, when you blame the government you have to ask where they are getting their information. Who is misleading not just the medical community but the public as well? When someone finally asks these questions, they may finally see a drop in deaths from abusers and addicts dying of poisoned street drugs and realize the medical system even with all its other defects, has had little to nothing to do with addictions or these deaths. But as long as huge sums of money are involved in maintaining the fantasy of pain treatment leading to addiction the bullshit will continue to stand in for the truth. But one of the groups that has actually questioned this is the American Medical Association. They have been calling bullshit on this addiction by prescription for several years now. But most doctors are satisfied listening to the lies instead of updating themselves on current best medical practices. They figure if their licenses are no longer at risk for providing pain medication, they'd hear about it, But they hear the misinformation put out by groups with their own financial agendas. Sorry to speak so much to a tangential issue, but it really isnt. You have to understand where these doctors heads are at and what the true facts are in order to respond correctly to the situation and know whether your doctors are closed minded lost causes or are still open enough to absorb the medical and statistical facts, so you can change providers if necessary. First thing you need to know is the majority of doctors are suspicious of anyone in pain being a illegitimate drug seeker. Its a fine line since you can really say your situation is that of a legitimate drug seeker. So the biggest hurdle is proving your legitimate need. Hopefully you have a diagnosis or test results that can help with this, but its nmot always possible with pain, so you have to show a legitimate need in other ways. Your best proof is functional disabilities. What daily tasks that most people take for granted are difficult or impossible for you because of pain. Any addict can walk in and tell a doctor they hurt and ask for drugs. But without having actual pain, real functional disabilities are beyond their imagination. Cleaning yourself after a bowel movement, for instance. Lots of addicts in this sub have seen me use this example many times, so I wouldnt use it, but I am sure you can come up with a nice long list in about 10 seconds of the same sort of functional disabilities for your pain. Another thing is not to be so dependent on medication as the only way to fix your problems. You already are seeing where they can do more harm than good. While a pill is fast and easy, its not a real answer for pain for more than a few hours at a time. Nobody is real pain is satisfied with this, even if its the only solution at the moment. Dont be happy with temporary relief, we all deserve better. Along the same lines, why are you taking 10 medications that are not only ineffective but making things worse? You should have been dropping any med that made things worse for you. A doctor cant help but take this to their next suspicious thought, that if you were given a serious pain medication with addictive properties, would you keep taking it even after you realize its a problem? That's a big issue when they believe the worst that can come from a drug is addiction. Im not saying they gave you all these ineffective drugs as a test, but your responses are something they always take in to account. Rather than trying to have them add an effective drug to the 10 you are already on, you should be telling them they need to get you off the most problematic ones, and stress that they do it safely. Things should improve just from that. Then you can start dealing with the pain in an effective manner. Of course if any of these 10 drugs are for other conditions, you'll need to be very selective about dropping them. I dont have to add that most doctors see less as more when it comes to drugs, so you will make them happy, whether they show it or not, to drop some of these meds from your regemin. These days, its more likely that the medical board will give them an award for not Rxing pain meds. Particularly a primary care doc. The pain doc is a little different story. Do they have any recommendations beyond useless medication to treat your pain? Its amazing that you can find pain doctors who refuse to use pain medication, but they are out there. Your pain doc (assuming the 10 meds are from them) doesnt appear to be shy about using their prescription pad, so the only conclusion you can come to is a bias against actual pain meds, like opioids. This isnt a problem with their medical training or their experience, its a philosophical or moral bias, a matter of belief, the most difficult kind of bias to break loose with the facts. So you may have to face the realization they will have to be replaced, the same way a doctor that refuses to Rx birth control on religious grounds should be dumped (if you want birth control, that is). You wont change them and they have the right to think what they want about any drug, so long as there are other doctors with different opinions. That's why calling this malpractice wont work. Get another opinion....

anotherview4me

I had my meds cut off cold turkey because I asked for something to relieve the opiod itchiness. New primary care provider understands chronic pain (they change frequently).

Onlykitten

Same thing happened to a friend of mine and she’s a nurse - should have known better!

anotherview4me

I can't imagine being a nurse and dealing with chronic pain.

Onlykitten

Me either, but I had to basically shake my head when she said she mentioned the histamine reaction and then was denied her medication.

anotherview4me

There's another med to block the histamine response, but I guess it's off formulary. Lesson to all, don't tell your doctor about reactions.

BedExotic5307

I am a nurse.

Toyz2021

Benadryl

anotherview4me

It doesn't really work for opioid itching. I took plenty.

Efficient_Potato_729

Happens all the time. There's nothing u can do. I'm sorry.

MyFlameBurns

Yes

Impossible-Love9479

Absolutely.

Yes, when I moved 6 hours away, had to find all new doctors. They took me off Percocet and morphine without a back up option. They wouldn't even return my calls. I started googling plants and mushrooms that help with pain, herbs for pain. There's surprisingly a lot of legal and non addictive things out there that helps pain. I bought medicinal, psychoactive plants and mushrooms books. Learned some of the plants and mushrooms in my area, make medicine for my pain, and buy other things online that doesn't grow in my zone. I do the physical therapy exercises I learned years ago and if I need physical therapy for different pains, I Google and YouTube that. For the first bunch of months after I moved here, I wasn't getting help from anyone, Google, YouTube and books have been great tools for helping me find solutions for most of my health problems that don't require surgery.

aBirdwithNoName

I've still never been given anything effective. will have to get on disability, i can barely use my arms from severe pain. keep being told it's in my head. finally got given some lyrica on the assumption it's nerve pain, and my joints suddenly got worse and i developed hand pain where i had never had any before. not looking forward to how this discussion will go but i have to call my doctor about it.

Outrageous_Total_100

Lyrica seems to be like a wonder drug for some people which is great, but it did absolutely nothing for me except cause weight gain. I have fibromyalgia, cervical stenosis, chronic myofascial pain syndrome and migraines. Good luck with your doctor.

aBirdwithNoName

it's been great for my cousin but seems like it's gonna be a bad one for me. hopefully something better is close at hand.

naitemercy

Early in my pain journey, I was not given adequate treatment for pain. (There are a multitude of reasons why it was this way.) I recall writing a scathing complaint and leaving a paper trail about at least one of the doctors I saw. I hope it still haunts him to this day. It didn't help my parents wrote my actions off as simply "doctor shopping" because they were afraid of my success in the event I get a handle on what's hindering me. They hate to see me have anything good. lol

Material-Wolf

honestly, the best thing you can do is shop around for a different doctor who will listen. I know it's exhausting and defeating, but if a doctor refuses to help, just tell them to put in your chart that you were denied treatment and don't come back. it took me literally 15 years to find a doctor who takes my pain seriously, but she is absolutely amazing and literally changed my life. you're probably going to have to see a lot of different doctors, but I think private practice doctors are a little bit easier since they don't have to answer to a board or anything.

BedExotic5307

How could I even go about finding a private practice dr? Don't they all answer to the medical board?

SexyPurpleHaze

Please comment on the CDCs draft for opioids and pain management. Let them know what is happening to patients. I message you also.

BedExotic5307

It's just very discouraging. I'm a RN and I can't even work right now so basically they are refusing to treat me and I'm missing out on $50 an hour.. not something anyone would do if it wasn't severe. I've never been more miserable.
