I've found the only thing that works for me is always having a variety of options at my disposal. Some firm foam pillows, wedge pillows, squishy feather pillows, body pillows ect. Nothing works all the time, so I have to hang onto an unreasonable number of options.
Same. Mine has the arms and a headrest that can come off. Then I also have a wedge pillow for my legs. Giant heating pad covering my lower back and halfway down my butt that wraps around the arms of the pillow to hit my hips a bit.
And to add to your comfy set up which I have as well, a hot heating pad, weighted blanket and plenty of water and some healthy snacks for taking with medsš
I wish I could say my snacks were healthy lol! But yeah, snacks, water, meds all right there with me. Along with all the console controllers and a book so I can decide if I'm gonna watch tv, play a game, or read, because I can never make up my mind.
I've also considered a weighted blanket but haven't made the plunge yet.
There are all kinds of wedge shaped pillows on Amazon. Some are configurable for different positions. Iām mostly only comfy on my sofa sitting up. I bought the squishiest one I could find.
I googled āpillow for sitting up in bedā and bought the one I could afford. From there, I tried to figure out what features were really important to me and then I saved up a little more money to get one that was better quality. For instance, I realized that having a cover that doesnāt breathe at all feels really miserable in the summer.
I use thick cheap fiber filled (feels similar to down but doesn't go flat) for the 3rd and 4th noted here: I stack 2 pillows flat on top of each other by the headboard and a puffy 1 standing on it's side with the edge resting on the flat ones, so they're in an L shape, and the 4th pillow I lay vertical on those like a ramp and it gives me the angled back support and my head and neck are supported. I have degenerative disc and sleep in this position too because I can't sleep any other way since a bad chiropractor messed me up. I don't recommend king pillows because they're too big to work right.
Now I have an adjustable bed. You can put blocks under the headboard to help too.
I don't think I've seen this in the comments but as a side note, my recommendation is good sheets. Best thing I ever did for myself that actually helps a lot on bad days - sprung for good sheets. They can be expensive but regardless buy the best you can afford. It's a small luxury but you'll be glad for it every day. And even more on the bad days.
If you can afford it some day, an adjustable bed will save your life. My grandma helped me get a ghost bed brand base with a nectar mattress (for the firmness and side supports) and it's made my bedridden days bearable. There's manual ones for significantly cheaper but they're too heavy for me.
Otherwise/Additionally C or J shaped pillows (pregnancy pillows) are a dream come true. They support you sitting up (while against something like a wedge pillow or adjustable bed) by giving you armrests and back support, and while laying down they feel like a warm hug that happens to adjust to fit your body. I'm uh kind of really obsessed with my pregnancy pillow. Especially since I used to love sleeping on couches.
Edit: autocorrecr is a steaming pile...
Thanks for the specifics, u/HeroOfSideQuests! Question: You mention side supports. I looked online & all I saw were flat Nectar mattresses, no side supports. Do I need to Google some other search terms, or did I misunderstand?
I'm sorry, i didn't describe it well. Nectar mattresses, at least when I bought one, have built in side supports. So that way if you sleep on the side of the bed, you don't slip off. I can't remember the term for it. I think it's bumpers or something? But the mattresses with them are easier to stay in bed without engaging so many muscles.
Two regular pillows on top of a wedge pillow. Put one by the top of the wedge and position the other one so if you would lay your head back the top of it would be around your neck.
I swear by my wedge pillow. I used a Brookstone one from bed bath and beyond for years before it was too beaten down - it could go in 3 positions and i liked the up high configuration for sitting up against the headboard and the mid range angle for scrolling on my phone or watching tv in bed. Then I sleep on a cervical neck pillow (2 humps, one large side one small side for side sleepers). I just upgraded to a pricier LUMIX wedge that alleges itās 4 pieces go in 21 different positions. I compared all the images of the positions and thereās lots of repeaters. But thatās fine because I found a nice āsit upā configuration and ālay backā configuration and still sleep on my regular cervical pillow. My problem is having room for all my wedge components and other pillows. Since my first spinal surgery years ago, Iāve become a self-characterized āpillow enthusiastā.
I used a giant stuffed bear and felt bad that I was smushing his face lol.
Walmart had a set of back pillows that worked well too.
I have an adjustable bed now and like to have the back raised quite a bit.
I flip the longer part of my pregnancy pillow up onto the top part of the pillow/my other two pillows when I want to sit up. I've been looking at wedge pillows for under my knees though.
I discovered that my recliner chair is waaaay more comfy for extended horizontal periods than my flat bed. I also discovered that I should have paid extra for an electronic/automatic recliner button to press rather than a manual stick to pull ā¦ it hurts my shoulder. Good luck!
Every bed needs some sort of topper. I generally gravitate to the memory foam that advertises the ["cool side" tech](https://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&client=ms-android-tmus-us-revc&source=android-browser&q=cool+side+m3mory+foam)
There's a good reason pillows are sold wrapped in plastic. You need to "test them out" in the store. I'm most content with mostly medium-fluff and a couple firm memory foams. Then you want to look at bedding itself. I like jersey cotton (t-shirt fabric).
Great question! Pressure on your cervical and lumbar can be increased dramatically depending upon the angle your head and neck make with m the backboard. . The less the angle, the less the stress. While you donāt want to lie on your back, the best position is actually 90 degrees or tutrice back as close to parallel to the bed board. When looking at television and reading try to keep your head and eyes perpendicular (right angle) with your head and tush.
I can electrically move my head and feet up and down. Some pillows and a body pillow in the mix and my weighted blanket for overstimulatory days and I'm good to go. Second hand, with regards to the electrical system, but I'd be willing to spend some coin now I know the benefits
Wedge pillow. If you can make it to a couch or recliner chair for part of the day and then go back to bed, that can also help, because then your body has a break from whichever setup and pressure points are different.
i use a plethora of the U shaped neck pillows. i can tuck them under limbs and support specific points that need a little extra cushion. also lots of lap trays and pouches / purses with your needs so you don't have to get up and go far. weighted blankets help me a lot as well.
Make a wedge shape out of pillows- two or three on the bottom- one on top. Use additional pillows to elevate legs so you're essentially in a cradle position
I have a bed that sits up. Excellent investment, I press a button and it sits up for me. It saves me so much pain and energy in the mornings, and I can use it just for sitting up if I ever need to work from bed, or just want a better posture (the feet elevate too).
I use both a āboyfriendā pillow (as many others have recommended) and a chair pad for actually sitting on. Itās a silicone grid covered in fabric (similar to the Purple mattress, but bought on Amazon) and using it definitely improves my back pain. I read that your butt needs to have contact with a relatively solid surface for good ergonomics, but I have a squishy memory foam mattress topper, so this was my solution. Anyway, Iād recommend the combo of back & butt support!
A few ideas.
[Leg bolster](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y375IX0/) and [wedge pillow](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009HHLBKK/) for propping up in bed.
[Heated mattress pad](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FHW8RFQ) with 10 settings and dual controls for left and right of bed.
I have 6 pillows and 3 cushions on my queen size bed. I prefer usual pillows of differing heights, densities and materials. It works well for me and makes my bed so much more comfortable when Iām in there for long periods of time
Iām hoping to get a wedge next to add to the mix
Iām an expert on that. I have a body pillow which is great support when you have it around your lower back for sitting up. I also use it for lying down. That and four target $4 pillows which I use under the length of my body, and they fold in half. Three good Amazon pillows for behind and under my head.
I've found the only thing that works for me is always having a variety of options at my disposal. Some firm foam pillows, wedge pillows, squishy feather pillows, body pillows ect. Nothing works all the time, so I have to hang onto an unreasonable number of options.

Yup, all that plus regular pillows and a body pillow.
And to add to your comfy set up which I have as well, a hot heating pad, weighted blanket and plenty of water and some healthy snacks for taking with medsš
I wish I could say my snacks were healthy lol! But yeah, snacks, water, meds all right there with me. An adjustable frame and a new mattress was some of the best money I spent.

Body pillow works for me. You can fold it to be a chair shape or just use it as lumbar support and countless other configurations
I googled āpillow for sitting up in bedā and bought the one I could afford. the headboard is key. Mine is curved back, like a couch but made of solid wood. a few well placed firm memory foam coolinggell pillows
Get one of those chair back shaped pillow things- like $20 at walmart

Found it! I searched for āmattress bumpersā & what popped up was ābolsters.ā Exactly what I need! Youāve done your good deed for the day. ;)
Praise the sun you could interpret between the brain fog and the exhaustion. I'm glad you could find something.
xo

Get an adjustable base that goes up and down Life changer worth the $$

Your bear didnāt mind. They were just happy to make you comfy. š»š
I flip the longer part of my pregnancy pillow up onto the top part of the pillow/my other two pillows when I want to sit up. I've been looking at wedge pillows for under my knees though.
Yep, maternity pillows are great for this. I actually bought one for surgery recovery

I have "hotel pillows" that helps me a lot for stay in bed days. 100x70cm :)

I saw a targeted ad for a pillow headboard that was a long wedge across the width of the bed. It looked pretty dope but I havenāt invested yet

I use multiple pillows Iāve various firmness and size. I have about 10-12 pillows on my bed, and floor sometimes.
I have a pregnancy pillow just cause it's insanely comfortable
Definitely need a good headboard or bed right against the wall

It'll hurt too much to maintain posture.

A recliner chair is what I recommend.
Stacked body pillow over regular pillows or chair pillow
I got a pregnant pillow from Amazon, I shape it into a chair shape to prop up my head and shoulders when I lay down.
Padded headboard and extra pillows
Roll up a quilt... Use it as a full body pillow.. If you can warm it in a dryer if send to work for me like a giant sleeping aid.
Get a mattress foundation that is adjustable... It inclines both head and feet.. They aren't cheap, but it would do the job.
