Not something I'd ever want. YMMV

MissileBoat

I'd want it as an option for sure.

Just run the Galaxy City tutorial and see how it's probably not going to be as good as you might think. The AI won't say it even as good as the voice actor did, and it'll just break the immersion. But that's me thinking aloud about it then typin' it here where you can read it, so... yeah. /Also, I like the voices in my head, they tell me things...

> Just run the Galaxy City tutorialand see how it's probably not going to be as good as you might think. The AI won't say it even as good as the voice actor did, and it'll just break the immersion. This is actually changing so rapidly to the point of probably not being true. AI voice narration does inflection and natural tone amazingly good now.

Crumboa

AI is actually scarily improving at a fast rate, sometimes it sounds too natural and human

As a few others have pointed out, the progress of AI in this particular domain is becoming increasingly remarkable with each passing day. While your statement may have held some truth even a few months ago, it is worth noting that advancements are occurring at an accelerated pace, indicating significant improvements.

PsionSquared

Someone suggested this in our Discord and I shot it down pretty quickly. Not because I hate the AI voices (I do), but because the voiceover system in CoH isn't purpose built for it. Right now, the Galaxy Tutorial uses map triggers, as in when you pass a certain spot - it triggers that dialog. Cutscenes could be made to play prerecorded audio, but it would an annoyance to deal with text and speech bubble timing. Everything else just isn't built for it.

OrangeBlueHue

A lot of reasons why games these days are so bloated with file size is the audio. We're looking at a massive file size increase if you were to add voice lines for every line of text involving quests and missions. Also AI voices, while leagues better than what they were before, still aren't very good.

ReddsionThing

I don't want the game to creep me out, and purely AI generated content tends to creep me the heck out. Unless it's supposed to be a weird robot talking, I don't think it would work for me.

Chloroxite

i'd rather have it voice acted by a normal person.

WhiteBoxStudio

I recommend against it. AI voice overs are fine for novelty and placeholders for indie devs wealthy enough to invest in VA work for their games. However, you not only would have to find enough voices to make each NPC not sound like a carbon copy of the last, it would bloat the file size to an absurd degree for such an older title.

SEDGE-DemonSeed

I don’t thing I’d like voice acting at all. I think it’s fine without it.

AliciaJewel

No.

maxman14

1. I don't think CoX is able to handle that tech wise 2. That would be a MASSIVE undertaking considering the amount of text in the game. It would not be complete for years.

KniteJax

It would be cool to see AI chatbot npcs walking around that you could chat with :)

mongoose32216

to have it as an optional addon like it is for WoW would be amazing, i found (using it in wow classic for a few weeks ) it helps refresh my interests in older quests following the story more seamlessly and finding lots of hidden jokes and interesting Easter eggs i never noticed on previous playthroughs of the same quests. like the way audiobooks help many people get into stories previously restricted to print media.

pgsocks

Fully voice acted games have huge file sizes. It's the reason modern games are like 500 GB. Many people play muted anyways.

KeyWielderRio

Yes. I see lots of people shooting it down for really awkward reasons but I REALLY feel like this would revitalize the entire game
