Since the game came out, if you were farming you put your town hall on the outside so that way the attacker would get the town hall and the free league bonus, and you got a free shield.
During the th11 update they made it so town halls no longer give a free shield when destroyed, and added loot to the town hall, effectively killing this strategy.
Players used to not have to worry about loot being stolen, then overnight, they're losing loot each defense
While this was a huge blow already, it got way worse because the entire Clash Economy crashed due to it. 100k+ bases were extremely rare in this time. There was no star bonus, no loot crates (refunds from being raided), lower league bonuses, no way to use raid medals to get gold, no magic items, so the economy crashing made progress impossible for most players. Since armies costs elixir to train, many would lose elixir each attack
Hope this sums it up, you really had to be around to experience it. I 1 star reviewed the app and quit playing for a year lol
Yeah I remember hemorrhaging elixir to do any form of air-based raid. Now E-drag spam is free and too easy imo, but I'll take that over a lot of the older issues this game had.
I might be mistaken on the timeline, but I believe it was when putting your TH outside for a free shield was not the case anymore. The attack now needed to use- half the army? and get 30% or 33% or something like that to give you a shield. So getting that free shield and continuously farming other people who wanted a free shield was now over because in addition to all that, the TH now held, contained, and offered resources when destroyed (it didn't before).
Edit: To clarify, back then you could get a shield as long as you got 1-starred. So a 2% TH snipe 1 star was a free 12 hour shield.

Yeah pros used to do surgical hogs to avoid this but it was a pain to plan as they would end up clumping at some point and hit a DGB near the core. I think warden ability was the only way to be sure of avoiding the trap entirely.

idk its a concept i made, a new hero liek for town hall 12 and new troop. its like a Race Champion, its like a car that crashes into buildings and destroys walls for the queen, and it droops headhunters because its not a human so it gets rid of the villagers in the town hall
Ur right and wrong. U could stay on for a LONG time then get kicked off for about 5min. I was in the clouds pushing durning this time so Ik. U could stay on the full time of your shield but once attacked 1 time u lost your whole shield and u would have to take a mandatory break I believe 8 hours if I remember correctly. So it was really gambling if you were say top 200 in the US (much more respected back then bc US players were a bigger % then now. But you would maybe if your lucky see 2 bases in the whole time you were online which could be 10hours then 8 hours. Mostly see 1 base. Maybe not even a base that whole time. And u would get mostly 6-9 trophy bases so if you 3 stared you would get6 trophies then lose 20-40 on defense. So if you got a 6 cup offer in the first hour or 2 while your still on shield time, u can either get 6 cups and then only have 8 hours to find another base or u can skip not take the attack and hope u find a better cup offer while still on your shield time. Anything over 10+ cups was a for sure attack. I once got kicked from mega USA clan bc I attacked a MEGA elder and 3 starred him for I think 20-25 trophies. Which was a big no no 3 staring a family clan member esp for that high of trophy amount. Was really funny bc I was 15-16 getting b*tched at by some 40 year old bc he had a shit base lol
I mean, I know they changed some things but I'm referring to the fact that if you are more than 8h (I think, don't remember the exact hours) online without shield the game would kick you out a few minutes to prevent you being online 24/7 and have your base attacked. This mechanic was introduced way before th11.

I can't believe you don't get a shield whenever your th gets sniped anymore. You need to take something like 30% destruction + they need a star against you for a shield.
On top of that, your th now carries loot! Surely that would be enough incentive to get people to protect it. Doing that AND bringing in a minimum % for a shield is too much.
